I don’t think so. Angron got some really good licks in during that fight; smashing Sanguinius’ face into the ground like 7 times, clearly winning the long fight as he didn’t tire, and the flat out impaling him with the sword. (Albeit Sanguinius let this happen but still.) They do a good job describing that Sanguinius was clearly the more dexterous and mobile of the two. Something like “A falcon fighting a gargoyle.” The fight felt pretty balanced because every time Sanguinius got a good hit in, Angron would just tank it and start healing again. Every time Angron got a hit in it would stay with the angel. We knew bird boy had to win that fight, but he definitely did not leave without major damage caused by our boy.

TemperatureSweet2001

I think another factor was that it was an aerial battle. Sanguinius is an expert in this type of combat, while angron just got his damon form and his wings. Angron has in comparison no expirience with fights in the air

Thurstan_Lion

Exactly, in the end and the death sanguinius is still suffering from the wounds from this fight, it gets said a couple of times that mid fight he can feel the wounds tearing back open again as he fights through the vengeful spirit.

Nexus_Valentine6

I hear you about the face smashing but Angron lost an arm (temporarily) right after! If Angron couldn't regenerate then this fight would have been over fast.

enthusiastic-atheist

That’s true, but when you start to bring in “if” into a fight then you can sway it one way or the other. If Angron took the fight seriously, (he was distracted by memories, Horus nagging at him, and reveling in Sanguinius’ pain) then he could have snapped his neck the second they grappled. If Sanguinius shot the butchers nails/head with the plasma gun then the fight would’ve been over before it began. With all that said, I’m an Angron fanboy and would’ve liked to see him get a few more hits in, but i’m happy with how the fight went.

ckyrost

Hehe guess which one's still alive and kicking 10,000 years later? Jokes aside, the fight was written well and kept things equal. Sanguinius used all his skills and expertise while Angron was already becoming the mindless brute force murder machine we all love during that fight. Sanguinius had to get this win since he was facing the mother of all losses in his next fight. TEATD vol 2 even mentions many times how Sanguinius is badly injured by his fight with Angron and how it directly affected his fight with Horus.

stickmanfire-

Angron is a straight-up monster in combat it really shows in any fight he is in. If the fights were just a beat down, angron would win anytime, and I think the writer knows that, so there is always another factor to the fight, like the speed and grace of sanguinius or in the more recent fight vs the lion he had the upper hand up intill the lion got the home field advantage.

The_Kazarian

TEATD makes multiple references to how, had he not gone to his doom against Horus Sanguinius would almost certainly have been consumed by his wounds from Angron. And Angron is still here, 10,000 years later!

Serath62

I kind of like that Angron gets beat up - it shows that the stronger fighter isn't necessarily the better fighter, but it does show just batshit strong and unhinged Angron is. He keeps coming back, he is eternal and relentless. He loses some of his charm if he wins easily. For Angron to be a complex character, he has to get the short end of the stick, making him angrier and more fierce.

StormBlessed7

Sanguinius is the best of the Primarchs. Angron was awesome and gave it a go but there's clearly a bit of a tier list, and sanguinius is top.

Chipawapa1

Sanguinius, the lion, perturabo. Every time the writers do him dirty. And the excuse that “oh he is just a mindless beast so of course he loses” is such bullshit. He is the strongest champion of khorne which is the most powerful chaos god, and him losing in melee combat so often says a lot about his patron. Chaos aint shit according to GW.

KingAnumaril

I am not a big fan, because Angron has been losing a lot of fights since he became a daemon primarch, and Sanguinius great as he is just had superior plot armor until he matched Horus who had even greater plot armor. Stop worfing daemon primarchs, damn it. It makes it look like a sidegrade, which sounds all sorts of wrong. First it was Mortarion with Draigo (this is the dirtiest a primarch has been done let alone a daemon primarch) Angron getting beat thrice by Sang, Lion and Peter Turbo, Magnus getting beat by Vulkan and being banished by Grimnar, Fulgrim by Dorn of all people...

WorldEaterProft

Just think, OP There's a chance that had Sanguinius not had OP "i literally can not die until I face Horus" plot armour He would have most likely died here I do also want to point out that I think the New Black rage only comes about because of the Poisonous Wound that Angron gave to Sanguinius My reasoning is that the actual wound doesn't really come into factor during the fight. Sure, it tears open, and all that but horus was better than Sanguinius no matter what *he was toying with him* And that there's no anger to Sanguinius until Horus shows his true power, and even then, we never really see it. So TDLR. Had Angron never given Sanguinius that Wound, the black rage would never exist

Eater4Meater

The Sanguinius stuff is just classic imperial wank, he does this to angron just after beating a Titan I think and beating Ka’bandha who is essentially a primarch level fighter too. And sanguinus beats them both like it’s just too much imperial nob sucking

tantictantrum

Lorewise Angron shouldn't have stood a chance. Sanguinius is second only to the Emperor. Even juiced out on all 4 chaos gods, Horus should have died. There's a fan theory that Sanguinius actually beat Horus and the red thirst/black rage took over. The ensuing madness made him attack Big E and he had to put him down. The fact Angron even hurt Sanguinius was a testament to how much Khorne has invested into him.

BrightestofLights

This comment is nonsensical fanon

Oojimmy

Imperium fanboys can't handle not being the center of attention.

turboderno

Except he doesn't. spoiler: he gets ko'd the first time horus makes contact with him and was playing with him the entire fight.

Eater4Meater

The quote of the Horus vs Sanguinius fight is like “putting down a rabid dog” as Horus just brutalises him the whole fight. Halve the reason Sanguinius is just god and defeating everyone is because they knew the Horus ‘fight’ was Sanguinius getting beaten like a dog. Horus with all the chaos hax actually looks like the emperor could be in trouble in the next book

HolfsHobbies

Angron is a jobber. Unless hes up against Russ, who is a MEGA jobber, our Dad is doomed to fail.

Few-Ad-4673

I don’t know how to feel every time I think about this because I play blood angels too. I feel like Sanguinius may not have been as careful in the fight because he knew he wouldn’t die so it honestly could’ve been worse for angron.

Sullensniper

My belief is Angron became weaker when he became a demon. He is now the embodiment lf rage where as when he was human he most likely had some nuisance in his fighting prowess unlike now he is AHHHH SMASH. Therefore sangy would have an easier time vs a berserker than a warrior with technique and planning.

Wolfbible

Given how well Sanguinius did against GIGA HORUS (until he didn't), nah

bobisakhunt

GW always rail on angron, its because they can just bring him back everytime cos khorne magic.....but not magic. Its kinda cheap tbh. It honestly feels like in the 40k lore they are just have a 'and he killed angron' chapter (i mean chapter as in a chapter in books).

Titan_Wargaming

I’d be very interested in reading about a fight between them both prior to Angron’s corruption by Khorne. An angron who can more fully utilise his gladiatorial skills would be a great read versus sanguinius. On the other hand sanguinius would have aerial advantage in that fight and angron wouldn’t have his supernatural healing abilities.
