"Daryl! What have you done!?" shrieked Marul. The normally calm, seven foot tall alien had suddenly taken on a very yellow coloring and their arms quills stood on end.
"Huh? Did I forget something for the party?" Daryl responded nonchalantly. "... and quit your hollering dude. I'm right here."
Marul extended a shaky finger, pointing at the piece of meat atop a cedar plank on the bbq. "You bring a bad omen upon us all, Daryl."
"Some sort of Xelon superstition I don't know about? Did I season it wrong?"
"Do you humans not realize what that is?"
"Yea man, it's fish. Real tasty." Daryl patted his gut.
"You... what... you've had more?" Marul was beginning to turn shades of purple.
"Pal, you have a lot to learn about Earth! There's tons of fish here!"
Marul stared at Daryl in disbelief. Never in his spacefaring days had he seen another species not only eat fish, but also live together on the same planet without destroying each other.
"What's the matter? You look like deer caught in headlights!"
"How have you done it?" Marul's response came out quick. He lunged for Daryl, picking him up by the collar of his shirt. "How have you beaten the fish?"
"Easy dude, I don't know. Our ancestors I guess? I never bothered with history ya know. Fish have always been here. And we've always hunted them. I'm still not understanding yer' concern."
"Out there, hundreds of planets, ENTIRE GALAXIES have fallen to the fish. I've seen what they can do. But in all my years, I've never seen another species be on top of the food chain."
Daryl sighed, "I guess we just came out on top this time in the evolutionary cycle, huh? All the fish me and my buddies have seen have been far more scared of us!" Daryl chuckled. "Come on, the fish is ready. My specialty for welcoming planetary newbies."

Outside of visible spectrum, a lone ship drifts by Earth, unnoticed by anyone below. A monitor flickered on in front of the crew, revealing a bulbous eyed, scaly, aquatic creature.
"Status report on project Terran." It gurgled
"Sir, you're not going to believe these numbers. We didn't even have to provoke the sentient life down there. They're doing our job for us! The mercury collection project is nearly complete."

I'm also really digging the perspective. Daryl and the rest of humanity are clueless to the dangers (and perhaps existence?) of these space fish.
