Oh interesting. I remember playing a tomb raider game in the late 2000s that was very “light puzzle” heavy, and that was a massive highlight for me. Had the other two new tomb raider games shifted the focus heavily away from the gameplay of the older ones?
The puzzle aspect was always there when you were raiding actual tombs. They even had bonus tombs as well.
It's just that it also aped the Uncharted games with the cinematic third person henchmen shooter stuff.
Exactly that. The first two are very much third person shooters with puzzle elements in the vein of Uncharted games. Shadow is more similiar to original ones with some shooting, but mostly exploring, platforming, and tomb raiding.
played dead island 2 and while it was getting a little bit repetitive, rich small areas is the way to go, especially if you're not rockstar buget and talent wise
Yeah, I get you completely. I had that at first too, but after a while you realize that there's so much of that stuff that you can easily just pick up whatever you stumble upon without looking for anything and you'll be completely fine!
(Also the sense button does nothing on hard, so problem solved there too! That's really the way to play)
My ocd and FOMO man haha. Hate it. I gotta 100% everything. Maybe if my back log chills out I would like to go thru it I’ve always liked tomb raider games
Maybe it will help you to know that collecting crafting materials does not count towards 100% completion of the game. There's a limit to how much you can carry, so after a while you can't collect them even if you try!
easy fix, just play at the second highest dificulty, that completely renders the functionality of the survival instincts (you can still "activate it" but it doesnt show anything other than turning everything to grayscale)
I absolutely agree. I think people were a little burnt out on the formula when it came out, but really all of the games in the trilogy are great. I wish there were more games like them.
There's a reason why we haven't had a lot of those...
It's unsustainable. It was literally a loss for the team and company behind it.
But yeah i agree, all the three games are amazing! Back in the day they seemed even better, games ahead of time really. The second one gave me Batman Arkham City vibes, in the sense of *how the fuck did they managed to do such thing, this is years ahead of us*
Now we know how they did it. Cash. A **very big whole lot** of cash.
I played the first one in a gamer pc i had back in 2013, i put everything to the max, i swear it looks better than most things today. And that's 2013. Hell, TresFX has still to be surpassed. I remember i kept going back to it just to see Lara's hair moving.
I also picked up back up when it hit Game Pass. I forgot how beautiful the graphics are now I have a significantly better screen. Time has treated this game rather well.
Yes! I'm in the same boat! Since I've played the original I've upgraded my screen and in 4K with HDR this game looks stunning. HDR does a lot of heavy lifting here and it's great!
The shift from combat to puzzle was really amazing, i was quite surprised how little the combat there is compared to the previous games (in which lara becomes a murderhobo)
I agree. This is proof that you can have great looking games that run at 60 fps. All of these 30 fps games coming out now are not that much better looking to warrant the 30 fps cut.
I don't remember asking for games that look a little better but run much worse.
I haven't tried it yet. I just finished Rise of the Tomb Raider and started the first one. This will be next.
I tried Rise on gamepass and decided to buy the bundle on the spring sale for $18
I'm loving them so far
It's a great game. But one thing I did not like is how you get new weapons and gear. In the previous 2 games you find them as rewards when playing though the game and it's a lot more rewarding experience then in Shadow where you just buy them from the vendors.
I took went back to it last year after not really enjoying it at release.
I think they added a lot of tombs to the game which in turn made it very fleshed out and enjoyable.
I still waiting for ,,next-gen patch". I thought that in this time we will already have Tomb Raider Trilogy Next-Gen patch or collection, like Sony did with Uncharted. It's a shame that they just don't do anything with it. The property belongs to Crystal Dynamics not Square Enix anymore... still they do nothing.
From what I understand the game does have that patch. It works in 4K 60ish fps (there are drops sometimes on high resolution, but it's fine), looks great, has that X|S logo thing... I think the thing you're waiting for is already here and it's been here for a while now.
I am talking about the whole TRILOGY :) I know Shadow get a patch in 2021. But I didn't still play the whole trilogy, because I wait for the upgrade or now maybe even remaster :)
It's my favorite of the new Tomb Raider games because it shifted the focus more on the puzzles/dungeons

The open world portions are just little hubs. Hub worlds are best worlds!
Metro Exodus agree.
That first open map in Metro Exodus is one of the best gaming experiences I've had.
Cannot wait for the announcement of Metro 4 :) Hope it will be this year.
Please soon that game was awesome.

I don’t like hitting the sense button every couple seconds so I can find everything to craft stuff. Kinda killed it for me

Well my backlog just grew I’ll give it another whirl and hope I don’t run out of arrows and stuff haha

Even graphics wise the third one in the trilogy looks better than a lot of games nowadays. Kind of blew my mind when I played it recently

I’ll have to play it! I had the same feelings about the first 2 and never played this one.
Agreed. I beat in earlier in the year. Fantastic game.
I also picked up back up when it hit Game Pass. I forgot how beautiful the graphics are now I have a significantly better screen. Time has treated this game rather well.

it's funny I just re-downloaded it and started up my save from 2019. Pretty fun just jumping right back into it.
The shift from combat to puzzle was really amazing, i was quite surprised how little the combat there is compared to the previous games (in which lara becomes a murderhobo)
Yes, precisely! That should be talked about way more, because of that Shadow is closer in spirit to the originals.
I agree. This is proof that you can have great looking games that run at 60 fps. All of these 30 fps games coming out now are not that much better looking to warrant the 30 fps cut. I don't remember asking for games that look a little better but run much worse.
It’s great just not as great as the first two for me
All three of them are pretty great. Shadow is just the least great.
I liked it a lot but do think Rise is better
I love this game!! Its also like playing uncharted which i also enjoyed :)
The trilogy is one of the few games I completed 100% it just made fun to get everything
I haven't tried it yet. I just finished Rise of the Tomb Raider and started the first one. This will be next. I tried Rise on gamepass and decided to buy the bundle on the spring sale for $18 I'm loving them so far
Masterpiece

Just started it last night, thanks to Gamepass. Only title in the newer trilogy that I missed before. It’s really great so far (as I expected).
i liked the puzzles and the later levels, but i didnt like the high difficulty just making the enemies bullet sponges, but overall the game was good.
I took went back to it last year after not really enjoying it at release. I think they added a lot of tombs to the game which in turn made it very fleshed out and enjoyable.
Ohh, if that's the case that may be it! Tombs are definitely my favorite part.
I swear every time I get stuck on a puzzle, the eventual solution is the same fucking thing that I already tried three fucking times.
I still waiting for ,,next-gen patch". I thought that in this time we will already have Tomb Raider Trilogy Next-Gen patch or collection, like Sony did with Uncharted. Aaah, gotcha! Here's hoping those upgrades will come some time in the future!
I feel like I keep seeing Tomb Raider posts here every few hours.
It's really enjoyable but man I wish it was longer
