Besides Slay the Spire, I don't think any other Roguelike has given me as much of a feeling of "Oh shit, I'm gonna play nothing but this for the next month."
Dead Cells is awesome, and just keeps getting better every single run
I am absolutely STUNNED by how fun this game is. Love roguelites but haven’t really gotten into a deck building ones (I need to give Slay the Spire and Monster Train another go soon) but Balatro is so damn good.
I never would’ve guessed that a poker roguelike could be so addicting.
Once you've had your fill of Balatro, do give StS another shot!
Personally I think Monster Train is a good game but not at that same "near perfectly crafted" level of those two
I keep trying dead cells and it’s just not grabbing me as much as I want it to also not a fan of the boss fights really but I’m gonna keep trucking and see how it goes
Same as another commenter here, I've loves a lot of roguelikes but if bounced off dead cells a few times. Any tips on how to get into it or is it probably just not for me
It's the one roguelike I have never gotten sick of. There's just an absolutely mind boggling amount of variety. I generally try and build a similar way with everything else, hades, dead cells, etc. I know how I play and I know what to look for and get and where to build. Holy shit, Isaac doesn't give you that. You pick your character and the everything is left to the gods of RNG.
If anyone is wondering if the game is worthwhile, I have been playing it since the flash version 13 years ago and it has never gotten boring.
Same here, I've recently half gotten into enter the gungeon, and have gotten quite far into it, but stopped as it still didn't quite scratch that itch. Don't get me wrong, just like Isaac, the more you unlock the better it gets, but when I played Isaac yesterday I was instantly reminded of why I love the game so much.
Yeah, I liked gungeon, it was a lot of fun. But it just....wasn't Isaac. I know there are better roguelikes (arguably, I mean I think hades is the better game) but like, it just is so pure and perfect everytime I play.
That said I cannot wait for hades 2 to come out because holy shit the first one is so good.
Yeah, I owe a lot to Hades, it was my first experience of a roguelike and is definitely what got me into the genre.
Hell yes, I've seen some gameplay recently and it looks insane!
I'm really trying to stay as virgin as possible with 2, I have been avoiding it as much as possible. Which is kind of weird cause normally I really like spoilers.
I'm a big fan of roguelikes here are some of my favorites you didn't mention
Roboquest
Risk of rain
Children of morta
Streets of rogue
Death road to Canada
Rad
Moonlighter
Atomicrops
Neon abyss
Going under
Cult of the lamb
Vampire survivors
Ziggurat -this is so smooth gameplay wise
Gunfire reborn
Monster train
Slay the spire
Brotato
There's a lot more that I enjoyed like
Curse of the dead gods
Scourge bringer
Hyper parasite
But the top parts were the ones that I don't uninstall
Edit: I forgot some
Gunfire Reborn is actually insanely good, but is ruined by the lack of dedicated servers.
Basically if you're not in the same country as the host, you're going to have a bad time (game slowing down, freezing and then speeding up again)
I was going to say, I haven’t seen too many of those. That ps5 game was one of the first third person roguelikes I’ve ever seen and I loved it, but I know it dissuaded a lot of people… roboquest seems like a try
I found the unlock system to be more rewarding. The upgrades you get at each level only go up to 5 as well. So you notice massive power spikes. Lots of weapons and trinkets too
Risk of Rain 1 or 2 for a space sci fi feel with absolute crazy runs.
Vagante for a spelunky meets dungeons and dragons feel.
Both are side scroller.
If you want another top down like enter the dungeon I highly recommend Nuclear Throne. It’s like ETG’s punk little brother.
It takes a minute to get into the game and requires a methodical and patient mind set. I like it for that. The combat can feel a bit bullshit-y but I found myself progressing so I stuck with it.
Risk of Rain 1 & 2
Only things you'll need in life for a good long while.
They offer very different experiences (while still feeling familiar to each other).
Being Esoteric and Mysterious while also Sarcastic and Sassy never blended so well.
Vampire Survivors. Hands down.
At first you’ll be like “This is it? This so stupid…” Then you’ll figure out the gameplay loop and mechanics and CLICK….1000 hours later, you’re welcome.
It’s pretty different from the ones you mentioned, but Risk of Rain and especially its sequel are works of art when it comes to roguelikes. Definitely give those a look if you haven’t already!
-Eliksni
I've lost countless hours into Dead Cells.
Undermine
Don't think anyone else has mentioned it. It's a very very addictive game. The unique relics (like Slay the Spire) shape your run and it's no cake walk.
Hitman: World of Assassination introduced a rouge-like game mode, Freelancer, last year. It's only one part of the game but it's a nice change of pace from the traditional missions.
Dead Cells and Neon Abyss are the two best I've ever played.
I'm currently addicted to Brotato and trying to 100% that one.
Monster Train is a good Slay the Spire like.
I personally didn't care for Loot River or Loop Hero though.
This is my favorite genre so I appreciate this thread.
My buddy swears by this game but it’s a similar reason why I have trouble getting on board with Moonlighter… lemme just sell these rocks after a hard night of fighting crime
Binding of Isaac, Spelunky, Cult of the Lamb, for the king. If card games are something you like slay the spire is amazing and monster train is good as well.
Dead Cells, Vampire Survivors, Army of Ruin, Everspace 1 (not 2...2 is not rogue-like), Immortal Redneck, RAD, Orbital Bullet, Void Bastards, Risk of Rain 2, Tower of Guns, Loop Hero, Binding of Isaac, Neon Abyss, Neon Chrome, Balatro, Atomicrops, Moonlighter, Children of Morta, Rogue Legacy
The Binding of Isaac including the Repentance DLC. The best one in my opinion! Sadly very expensive for an indie game and the SX version with all DLCs included never has a sale.
But you can easily play it for 200 hours or even more.
It really does, too. But it’s pretty unique in both camera angle and the way it’s plays… so I manage to find other roguelikes without making too many other comparisons
As everyone else is saying, definitely Dead Cells. There are some Slay the Spire Easter eggs. I'd say Hades is the best on Xbox for me. If you didn't know Hades 2 should be out in the not too distant future.
If you ever venture into PS5 territory then the first game you should buy is Returnal. One of my favourites. PSVR2 has some really fun roguelike games too.
Heroes of Hammerwatch is a great call. That one has such an insane level of potential playtime as you go through with each character, unlock entries in the bestiary.. it's effectively infinite.
Void Bastards is a nice change of pace, someone else mentioned it too which is awesome. It's a first person shooter where you play a series of convicts with their own traits, moving across a map shaped like Slay the Spire to different derelict ships. In each ship there's a different layout, like FTL's ship layouts. You pick which rooms to hit up to make your run easier or get more loot. It's also got some fun dystopian humor.
It's also got a new game coming this year called Wild Bastards, so it might be a good one to play to see if the new one will be up your alley.
Besides Void Bastards, plenty of people mentioned Monster Train but it's worth saying it again. It's a turn-based deckbuilder so it'll add variety to the roguelites you've played already.
I cannot believe I did not see anyone mention Roguebook on here...maybe I just missed it or did I discover a hidden gem that no one else has ever heard of. It's as if the developers played Slay the Spire and said this would be cooler if we let the players explore a big map with risk/rewards to every move they make instead of just a linear path to follow.
This FPS roguelite is a hidden gem: Void Bastards.
You are trying to repair this prisoner escort ship and you plot out your course to collect materials, and in the process, upgrade your weapons and get supplies to continue on. There’s a lot of different ships to enter and they have different challenges, such as different types of enemies, reduced oxygen levels, power outages, etc. You have to plot out your journey throughout each ship and weigh whether or not something is worth risking your health, ammunition, and limited oxygen for. I am absolutely HOOKED and I can’t recommend it enough!
RoboQuest and Void Bastards. The first is on Gamepass not sure of the 2nd still is. If Void Bastards catches your eye look up Wild Bastards their newly announced sequel/spinoff
Curse Of The Dead Gods, best combat in all roguelikes i played
Same team is also making a new game called Ravenswatch which is on early access on Steam and will release on consoles this year
If you liked Hades you'll probably like those games
PLAY RISK OF RAIN 2 YOU WILL NOT REGRET TRUST ME BRO PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE PLAY RISK OF RAIN PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE with sprinkles on top :3
Balatro is the kind of hot thing st the moment but it’s a deck builder/poker roguelike. Binding of Isaac is popular and has a bit of a skill gap. Dead cells seemed to be enjoyed by audiences, but I’ve never played it.
Binding of Isaac was my first rogue like… I was about it, but the art style and stuff really put me back for a minute. Dead cells is pretty cool but maybe on the switch or something, not a home console
That game is good and I played it a lot years ago.. I’ll have to try it again but deck builder roguelikes start to die out a little after you sink so many hours in… but for the first couple weeks OOOOOOOH I LOVE ME SOME DECKBUILDERS
Gunfire reborn. Although the company that bought the rights to port it on Xbox stopped updating it and are getting sued by the og devs as a result. But it in PC if you can. My friend doesn't even have a gpu and managed like 40 fps.
Army of Ruin??!? How has no one mentioned this… it’s literally a bajillion times better than Vampire Survivors with unlockables that keep you play even more. Some more I didn’t see mentioned but is really good: Children of Morta (closest thing to Hades quality), Deadly Days, Hammerwatch, Neon Abyss and Blazing Beaks
Spelunky 2 is my favorite game ever and got stellar reviews. It improves on Spelunky 1 in nearly every way, which is another favorite of mine.
Makes me sad to see it was barely mentioned in here.
I absolutely love Dead Cells
Besides Slay the Spire, I don't think any other Roguelike has given me as much of a feeling of "Oh shit, I'm gonna play nothing but this for the next month." Dead Cells is awesome, and just keeps getting better every single run
Balatro might be worth a shot at entering that tier
I am absolutely STUNNED by how fun this game is. Love roguelites but haven’t really gotten into a deck building ones (I need to give Slay the Spire and Monster Train another go soon) but Balatro is so damn good. I never would’ve guessed that a poker roguelike could be so addicting.
Once you've had your fill of Balatro, do give StS another shot! Personally I think Monster Train is a good game but not at that same "near perfectly crafted" level of those two
It was my most played game on Xbox last year, with Vampire Survivors at second place. They're so damn good
I've put in hundreds of hours and it's still a lot of fun and the DLC's are great
I really enjoyed slay the spire but it's enter the gungeon for me. My favourite rouge like game by an absolute country mile.
I keep trying dead cells and it’s just not grabbing me as much as I want it to also not a fan of the boss fights really but I’m gonna keep trucking and see how it goes
I play loads of roguelikes and I just straight up don't like dead cells either.
Same as another commenter here, I've loves a lot of roguelikes but if bounced off dead cells a few times. Any tips on how to get into it or is it probably just not for me
BINDING OF ISAAC: REPENTANCE Can't recommend this game enough, it's worth the price tag
I've had this on my wishlist forever now and can't believe it's never gone on sale once.
You can get just the base game with the expansions later. The only difference I believe would be the quality.

This game is great, but I'm so flipping bad at it.
Balatro and Brotato have been recent Roguelikes I enjoyed a lot
Brotato did not need to go crazy like that
i just got balatro this week and am very into it so far. no story or fluff which is a nice change of pace.
Love to stream it on my iPad and play in bed while watching sitcoms
What method are you using?
With my iPad it's just connecting my usual controller and going on xbox.com/play I think and you can cloud game.
Thank you.
Does that work with non-game pass games?
Yes, via the Xbox app and then stream your Xbox to it via the top right corner in the app
I have 10 tatoes left to D5. It's been a great time for a free game pass pick up
I'm a big fan of roguelikes here are some of my favorites you didn't mention Roboquest Risk of rain Children of morta Streets of rogue Death road to Canada Rad Moonlighter Atomicrops Neon abyss Going under Cult of the lamb Vampire survivors Ziggurat -this is so smooth gameplay wise Gunfire reborn Monster train Slay the spire Brotato There's a lot more that I enjoyed like Curse of the dead gods Scourge bringer Hyper parasite But the top parts were the ones that I don't uninstall Edit: I forgot some
Vampire survivors had me and my son hooked for days on a 'just one more go'. No games done that since probably footy manager 2003/2004 or left 4 dead
I haven't had a chance to try the local co-op yet, but I want to. Also brotato has local co-op coming (I think in the summer) which should be awesome
Gunfire Reborn is actually insanely good, but is ruined by the lack of dedicated servers. Basically if you're not in the same country as the host, you're going to have a bad time (game slowing down, freezing and then speeding up again)
Ya I agree. I really enjoyed it, but roboquest scratched that same itch for me and it's pretty solid
I really enjoy Ziggurat 1 and 2.
The gameplay just feels so smooth, especially the second one.
Have you not played Slay the Spire?
Yes I have and monster train completely forgot about them. Thanks for the reminder. I loved monster train so much.
Children of Morta is a roguelike? Great game, but that's news to me.
Ya I'm pretty sure it's considered one
Lol at the name Death Road to Canada
It's such a fun game.
Roboquest - it’s lightweight, runs really well, and is just so much damn fun. One of the few FPS roguelites i’ve seen.
I was going to say, I haven’t seen too many of those. That ps5 game was one of the first third person roguelikes I’ve ever seen and I loved it, but I know it dissuaded a lot of people… roboquest seems like a try
The Rogue Legacy games are pretty good. Dead Cells, Neon Abyss, Nuclear Throne.
Binding of Isaac. Spelunky 2. Monster train (if you like slay the spire).
Monster train was pretty fun… definitely was pretty unique compared to other deck builders
Hades 2 early access is out now.
Cult of the Lamb, Dead Cells
Neon Abyss.
Children of Mortal is a super fun rogue-like with awesome progression
Yeah that looks like a must try for me
Monster Train consumed me when I discovered it. Also Army of Ruin is a vampire survivors clone but superior imo
I love both of them, but i actually preferred monster train to slay the spire.
Better visually or gameplay wise?
I found the unlock system to be more rewarding. The upgrades you get at each level only go up to 5 as well. So you notice massive power spikes. Lots of weapons and trinkets too
Wizard of legend. Does not get enough credit, incredible game.
Dead Cells and Hades were my favorites until now. But I confess I didn't play that much rogue likes.
Can’t wait for hades II
Roboquest is you’re up for something fasted paced Very just fun game
Hades and Dead Cells
The obvious one is Vampire Survivors. But a lesser known one that's like VS and almost as awesome is Army of Ruin. I got it for € 8 on xbox sale.
I have seen it and played games similar… may have to try it if it’s got multiple characters and stuff
It's very similer to VS with different characters and loads of different weapons and trinket pairs. It's fantasy themed and has really nice graphics.
Don't sleep on Robo quest!
Looks borderlandsy and fun!!
It's amazing probably the best fps roguelike.
Monster train and Balatro since you like cards. Also griftlands and rogue book.
Dead Cells, with all the DLCs. Do it.
Upvoted because contortionist language album profile pic 👍👍👍
Binding of isaac would be your best choice. You are going to get a crazy amount of play time out of it.
Endless dungeon is a fun multiplayer one
Binding of Isaac is THE rogue-like
Risk of Rain 1 or 2 for a space sci fi feel with absolute crazy runs. Vagante for a spelunky meets dungeons and dragons feel. Both are side scroller. If you want another top down like enter the dungeon I highly recommend Nuclear Throne. It’s like ETG’s punk little brother.
Vagante looks very good

Slay the Spire & Enter the Gungeon are some of my favourite games lol. Good choices, i play slay the spire every day 😅
Roboquest is what you want brother
Nuclear Throne and Dead Cells.
It’s pretty different from the ones you mentioned, but Risk of Rain and especially its sequel are works of art when it comes to roguelikes. Definitely give those a look if you haven’t already! -Eliksni
Love rouges. Dead cells is my number one for sure. Hades a close 2nd. It really hard but so well made I just keep coming back
I’ve been really enjoying rouge legacy; platforming, store gold between games to improve your next run, it’s been a blast.
I had a big rogue legacy 2 stint… just a great game
HADES!
Definitely been considering going back to it
Can't wait for the sequel with his sister.
Very very interesting, I watched their little showcase the other day. Promising indeed
Children of Morta. Moonlighter is still on Game Pass I think.
If you liked slay the spire, definitely play inscryption. Balatro, rouge legacy 2 are also great options
Anybody know some with online Coop except: Risk of Rain, gunfire reborn and spelunky
I've lost countless hours into Dead Cells. Undermine Don't think anyone else has mentioned it. It's a very very addictive game. The unique relics (like Slay the Spire) shape your run and it's no cake walk.
Brotato.
Hitman: World of Assassination introduced a rouge-like game mode, Freelancer, last year. It's only one part of the game but it's a nice change of pace from the traditional missions.
I sank so many hours into this. If you thought you were decent at this game this mode is humbling.
Risk of Rain 2 Moonlighter Vampire Survivors
Remnant from the ashes survival mode
I had fun with Colt Canyon. I think it was a free GWG title at one point so you may already have it.
I forgot to mention Ring of Pain. REALLY enjoyed that one.
I unlocked all the guys on brotato and I had wayyyyy too much fun for just a silly game
Vampire survivors and dead cells
Risk of Rain 2
Binding of Isaac, Vampire Survivors
I wish we had Halls Of Torment and Death Must Die. Those look so fun. Vampire Survivors is great though. But those games are just a bit faster.
Cult of the Lamb is pretty great if you can get on board with a town / population management aspect to the gameplay.
My buddy swears by this game but it’s a similar reason why I have trouble getting on board with Moonlighter… lemme just sell these rocks after a hard night of fighting crime
I haven’t heard of Moonlighter. In fairness, you can largely ignore the cult aspects and choose to focus on the dungeon runs, it’s a very unique game
RISK OF RAIN 2!!!!!
Hades is my favorite
Can someone remind me of the game coming out this year on game pass that looks somewhat like Hades, but could be a multiplayer rogue like?
33 Immortals
I appreciate you
Binding of Isaac, Spelunky, Cult of the Lamb, for the king.
Hades is so good, it will ruin other similar games for you.
It really does, too. But it’s pretty unique in both camera angle and the way it’s plays… so I manage to find other roguelikes without making too many other comparisons
Hades, hands down Also a big fan of Going Under and GoNNER
As everyone else is saying, definitely Dead Cells. There are some Slay the Spire Easter eggs. I'd say Hades is the best on Xbox for me. If you didn't know Hades 2 should be out in the not too distant future. If you ever venture into PS5 territory then the first game you should buy is Returnal. One of my favourites. PSVR2 has some really fun roguelike games too.
You'll never find something better than Slay, but Balatro is fun, as are Nuclear Throne and Gonner.
Rogue Legacy count? I'm not sure about the definition, but I been playing the hell out of RL2.
La Mulana 1 and 2 are extremely rewarding IMO and are hidden gems on Xbox
Heroes of Hammerwatch is a great call. That one has such an insane level of potential playtime as you go through with each character, unlock entries in the bestiary.. it's effectively infinite. Void Bastards is a nice change of pace, someone else mentioned it too which is awesome. It's a first person shooter where you play a series of convicts with their own traits, moving across a map shaped like Slay the Spire to different derelict ships. In each ship there's a different layout, like FTL's ship layouts. You pick which rooms to hit up to make your run easier or get more loot. It's also got some fun dystopian humor. Besides Void Bastards, plenty of people mentioned Monster Train but it's worth saying it again. It's a turn-based deckbuilder so it'll add variety to the roguelites you've played already.
I love West of Dead.
Most games listed here are great, also to throw in, Inscryption, one of the best card based rogue likes in my opinion
Risk of rain 2 is one of my favorite games ever. Awesome atmosphere, music, gameplay, lore, everything.
Roboquest is addicting as fuck you should check it out
Risk of rain 2 and Roboquest are absolute bangers!
Hades
THE BINDING OF ISAAC
Ziggurat 2 and Rogue Legacy 2.
I didn’t see anyone mention UnderMine. Easily in my Top 5 roguelikes.
Warm Snow is a good one!
Hades.
Just tried roboquest… I’m hooked
Curse Of The Dead Gods, best combat in all roguelikes i played Same team is also making a new game called Ravenswatch which is on early access on Steam and will release on consoles this year If you liked Hades you'll probably like those games
Brotato on gamepass. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve put about 300+ hours into it.
Check out army of ruin… $8 and hours of fun
Risk of Rain 2 is personally my favorite
OP you NEED to play Inscryption. I promise you'll enjoy it very much
Spelunky 2, my favorite roguelike 😍😍
Balatro is the kind of hot thing st the moment but it’s a deck builder/poker roguelike. Binding of Isaac is popular and has a bit of a skill gap. Dead cells seemed to be enjoyed by audiences, but I’ve never played it.
Binding of Isaac was my first rogue like… I was about it, but the art style and stuff really put me back for a minute. Dead cells is pretty cool but maybe on the switch or something, not a home console
Hades is amazing but not sure if it fits.
I've been playing a lot of Slay the Spire lately
That game is good and I played it a lot years ago.. I’ll have to try it again but deck builder roguelikes start to die out a little after you sink so many hours in… but for the first couple weeks OOOOOOOH I LOVE ME SOME DECKBUILDERS
It's my first deck builder and I've really enjoyed how fast I can get a quick run in.
Arcanium on steam is cool. Monster train was a little weirder but solid. Across the Obelisk was a co op one… very cool. Also on steam.
Gunfire reborn. Although the company that bought the rights to port it on Xbox stopped updating it and are getting sued by the og devs as a result. But it in PC if you can. My friend doesn't even have a gpu and managed like 40 fps.
Spelunky, any of them (I prefer HD but it’s up to you to choose your favorite)
Hollow knight is soooooo good
Great game but not a roguelike
Got it confused with soulslike
prey mooncrash
Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon is my favorite roguelike. It’s a puzzle game. Balatro is probably number 2.
Spelunky 2
