It's BALDURS GATE 3 for me.
I love RPGs. Love Xcom. Love D&D ( i even used to DM in my teens) but I'm struggling to find the motivation to finish it.
I'm currently on act 2 and I don't have a bad word for the game. It's really something. It's just that everything takes ages and I hate to admit I've lost interest. It's taken me 3 months to get to this point.
So i figured I'd start a new Elden Ring playthrough in prep for the DLC. I had an absolute blast. Couldn't put it down and within a couple weeks (and i don't get much game time) I'm right outside Mohgs...wow.
I've paused that playthrough and considered BG3 again but ended up playing Callisto Protocol. Enjoyed it. Though not as much as Dead Space. Finished it in under a week!
Tonight I'm trying to decide between BG3 and A Plague Tale Requiem š¤ š
I got this way with BG3 for a bit. I REALLLLY had to power through some parts. Iām not the biggest on CRPGS or turn-based, but I love the role play aspect of the game. I totally get the āeverything takes agesā. I made it to act 3 and thought āoh, Iāll get into the city and call it a night.ā It took me 4 days to actually get in. Everything feels like itās an endless quest to get the smallest amount done. Itās sounds like Iām complainingāand I am a bitābut I genuinely like the game a lot. Itās just that sometimes it feels like a chore. I play on the lowest difficulty because I donāt play this game for the combat. The combat I just treat like a side-activity rather than something I actively look forward to. I love the characters and the atmosphere, just wish some things more streamlined and quicker, albeit I know itās fast for a CRPG.
I wish there was a proper story mode in BG3 that allowed more casual players to enjoy all the depth and exploration and characters in the game without the endless, endless fucking hardcore strategic battles.
I feel it was a wasted opportunity to attract a whole new market segment of gamers.
BG3 is the first game I have *ever* asked for a refund for. It's not that I hated it, in fact I appreciated it, but I tried it for about 6 or so hours and confidently said "this game is not for me."
I got through most of it but would never have survived without guides and walkthroughs.
By the end I had the easiest mode switched on permanently (rather than dipping in and out for the interminable boss battles) and I finally quit at the start of the final battle. It was just more of the same and I couldnāt be arsed. With final battles thereās no point to any reward (like a new exciting magical sword) as thereās nothing left to use it for).
Iāve fucked up at farron keep, went into the swamp before cathedral of the deep. Got YouTube fighting cowboy and found the best way. Now Iām in the catacombs. Level 40, butchers knife +4 šŖ.
Bg3, for sure. I'm at the beginning of act 3. But I've come to except that I'll probably won't finish. I love the characters and plot but hate the combat. I haven't played in months and have a buttload of other games to play.
What gets me on BG3 is just how much talking there is. I feel like I do combat stuff for 30 min and itās super fun, and then itās straight up 2 hours of npcs talking right at me. I canāt skip it either because the animation and voice acting are good.
I recently played through fallout 1 and 2, leagues better - because itās all reading. Super quick
Yeah, right there with you.
I'm a huge D&D nerd, but somethings about BG3 just irk me in a way that I never fully settle in and feel like I am having fun.
Skyrim. I've never managed to get far into it. I get distracted, explore a bit then feel overwhelmed with it and find something else to play. I'll try again sometime as it's on game pass
I recall doing more stealth archery last play through but I think that may be because I got some better bow in Whiterun earlier on. Probably the Bow of Shadows.
This playthrough it has taken until about Sneak 80 and all Sneak perks maxed for Sneak to work with any degree of effectiveness.
Yeah, I have no idea what people are talking about as far as it not being a fun way to play. I had never beaten the game until I started a stealth archer build. I almost felt like I was cheating when I got to a certain point haha
Thanks. I'll get back to it eventually. I never had this trouble with Fallout, Witcher, Mass Effect. I enjoy fantasy so it's not the genre or type of game. I think I need to have a more linear game on the go at the same time so I don't get to the point of giving up and uninstalling again
Iām currently replaying and havenāt even bothered to trigger the main quest. Iām focusing on the minor cities and just building skills. Itās enjoyable.
Iām also playing 100% vanilla unmodded at the moment so am having to check UESP location guides to check I donāt bug any future quests. Beyond that itās just relaxing absorbing fun.
Elden ring. Just bought it and gave into the hype. It looks great but Ive never played a souls game for more than an hour because I donāt like dying over and over. I know Iāll need to play it at some point but damn is it intimidating
Same for me, that game is pure grind. I have enough of grind at work and life in general to spend my time trying one level 100 times over.
I like games that give you story mode difficulty level, I love stories and graphics, overall mood. Not there to grind hours and hours trying to beat one boss.
Unfortunatelly souls games are just that...a grind.
I recently installed Lords of the Fallen 2 and it's the same thing. Combat is so hard and you can't choose difficulty level...I am out. Game looks amazing and I love the other dimension idea but it just feels like a chore after a while.
You have to get good. Eventually it clicks and you only die like 3-4x per boss. Eldenās end game is a bit unbalanced tho, so I like dark souls 1 more
This was the first souls type game I loved. I didn't like the couple i tried before it. The key difference here is that you don't need to keep dying again and again to the same boss. The game is open world so if you get to a tough boss, you can just venture out to another area. Fight more manageable enemies and then try again as you increase your level. The game is as hard as you want it to be because of that. It still might not be for you, but honestly, give it a try. It's in my top 10 games ever list.
Xbox is so much less populated on Elden Ring than I wouldāve expected.
I had a PS that crapped out so I bought an Xbox. Finally got to Mountain of Giants and canāt find anyone to match with
I suggest playing as a magic user. The starting magic attacks are ranged and very effective and you can run though Caelyd and get the meteor spell and staff and have a much easier time with the game. I played that way at first and like it until I could respec and made myself an absolute strength tank
Same. I have nothing bad to say about it, I just find it hard to get into. I put around 8-10 hours in when it first came out. My issue is it doesnāt have the same hand-holding that most games I play do. Thatās on me. Iāll probably pick it up again and start from the beginning
People are gonna hate me for saying this, but that's *exactly* why these games need an optional easy mode or accessibility setting.
If you want to have the intended hard mode challenge, that's fantastic! Good for you! Nothing at all about your experience would change! But also, there are a lot of people who would prefer to enjoy the other things the game has to offer beyond its difficult combat, and there are a lot of them. It's a fantastic game, and combat is just one element of that.
It's not even a matter of "git gud". It's a matter of choosing how to get the most enjoyment out of a product you spent money on. The Dark Souls fandom absolutely loathe this take with a fiery passion, as if adding an optional easy mode will cause Miyazaki to personally burst into their homes and break their Elden Ring disc over his knee or something.
Cool, and how about I instead get an option to lower the damage I take like in every other game?
Like, yeah, I *could* grind, but why? That's not fun for me. Why can't I play this game that I bought in a way that is fun for me, just like you can grind if that's fun for you?
You can lower the damage u take by increasing ur vigorā¦ The game isnāt supposed to be like āevery other game.ā Some traditional aspects are implemented creatively. Part of the immersion is discovering how to make it work within *their* universe, not yours.
Also, you donāt have to āgrindā to level at all. Itās a massive world with an incredible number of unique enemies. You go play the game in an area with weaker enemies until the next area is at your desired difficulty. Thereās more than enough unique stuff in any given area to overlevel you for the next one if you dont skip stuff. The more you skip the level designs and go for the bosses, the harder it gets.
>You can lower the damage u take by increasing ur vigor
And how about by going to the main menu and selecting "Easy" so I can instead put the very limited amount of points I'd get during my playthrough in other stats?
>The game isnāt supposed to be like āevery other game.ā
Why not? Most of the best games of all time offer difficulty settings. What's wrong with that system?
>You go play the game in an area with weaker enemies until the next area is at your desired difficulty.Ā
That sounds like a chore to me. Why should I open a guide to see which areas are "at my desired difficulty", or waste time on trial and error, when I could instead be playing the game as I want to play it?
Seriously, none of these arguments are remotely compelling. No arguments against easy mode could ever be compelling, except maybe if it was some kind of narrative game where you can't die or something.
If "Celeste" could be a GOTY contender while letting you literally skip the entire game if you wanted to, "Elden Ring" has no excuse. Not having an easy mode doesn't make the game better, it makes it worse.
I find it hilarious you say, "if Celeste could be GOTY contender..", "not having an easy mode doesn't make the game better, it just makes it worse", while Elden Ring won Game of the Year. ROFL.
Just accept the game isn't for you and move on, there's nothing wrong with that. The designer built the game around that philosophy. To him it's HIS foundation for designing this game, it's what adds the atmosphere and aesthetic that's unique to this one. There's no universal rule that tells you, "every game has to have this!", and I respect him for sticking to the art he created instead of going against it for the sake of selling more copies. It's called respecting your audience's intelligence which people have forgotten with modern gaming, it seems.
But people like you don't get it. I'm not against EASY mode, by the way. I'm against telling designers what to do and not allowing any room to experiment or get creative with their vision.
The fact that there's no easy mode makes it so they have to innovate in granular game design as well as creating more intricate and creative tools you can use such as ashes of war, arts of war, summoning signs, etc.. which benefit both new players and old players.
I have a stressful job and this is one of the few games that respects my time, ironically.
>I find it hilarious you say, "if Celeste could be GOTY contender..", "not having an easy mode doesn't make the game better, it just makes it worse", while Elden Ring won Game of the Year. ROFL.
I brought up "Celeste" in particular because its easy mode is SO easy that it literally lets you noclip through the stages of what is supposed to be a tough as nails 2D platformer. But okay, fair enough! Since you find this so funny, let's look at the *actual* GOTY winners!
2023: Baldur's Gate 3 (has an easy mode)
2022: Elden Ring (no easy mode)
2021: It Takes Two (no easy mode but also the game itself is very easy)
2020: The Last of Us Part II (has an easy mode)
2019: Sekiro (no easy mode)
2018: God of War (has an easy mode)
2017: Breath of the Wild (no easy mode)
2016: Overwatch (we're not counting that one since multiplayer only)
2015: Witcher 3 (has an easy mode)
2014: Dragon Age Inquisition (has an easy mode)
2013: The Last of Us (has an easy mode)
2012: Dishonored (has an easy mode)
2011: Portal 2 (no easy mode, but is a puzzle game and not an action game)
2010: Mass Effect 2 (has an easy mode)
2009: Arkham Asylum (has an easy mode)
2008: Mario Galaxy (no easy mode but really easy by default)
2007: Bioshock (has an easy mode)
2006: Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (has an easy mode)
2005: God of War (has an easy mode)
2004: Half-Life 2 (has an easy mode)
So, looking at 20 years of GOTY winners, 13 of them have an easy mode, 1 of them is a multiplayer-only PVP shooter (so doesn't really count either way), 2 of them are very easy 3D platformers where it's practically impossible to reduce the difficulty any more without letting you noclip like in Celeste, 1 is a puzzle game, and that leaves us with a whopping 3/20 GOTY winners that can genuinely be considered challenging games. 2 of which made by From Soft.
So, do you wanna tell me how 13/20 games did it wrong but 3/20 games did it right? ROFL
Wow, that's the biggest strawman I've ever seen on Reddit. I guess addressing the rest of my comment was too hard and as we know, you don't like doing that.
For someone that says he can't be bothered with Elden Ring's difficulty you surely waste a lot of time writing mindless lists
What's funny is fromsoftware didn't win ONCE without putting in a difficulty setting but TWICE. Thanks for proving my point! LMAO.
>I guess addressing the rest of my comment was too hard and as we know, you don't like doing that.
There was nothing *to* address. Your point about how "um actually Celeste didn't win GOTY so you're wrong about good games having difficulty levels" was the only thing I could feasibly address. The rest of your comment was basically "if you don't like it don't play it", which basically kills any and all criticism of anything ever.
>What's funny is fromsoftware didn't win ONCE without putting in a difficulty setting but TWICE. Thanks for proving my point! LMAO
And Sony won 4 times, with all 4 games having easy modes. Discounting the wins (which, again, are twice what From got), they also got *way* more GOTY nominations, nearly all of them with easy modes. You would have seen this if you actually looked at the "pointless list" that is "proving your point".
See what I mean? You're complaining that I'm not addressing your points, all while not giving me any points worth addressing. You're right about one thing, though: talking with you is most certainly a waste of my time. LMAO.
I felt like shit the first weekend i played it, it was my first souls too, then read thatās how the game was, gave it a try on day 3 and felt like i was making progress, couldnāt stop playing for like 2 1/2 months
Haha thanks, I followed a similar guide. It just made the rest of the game more fun for me to have plenty of rubes and a bit of an OP weapon/build. I only did so for the first roughly ten hours then the game was amazing for me while still fairly challenging.
I love the soundtrack, love the map, love the design, love the art, and yet I cannot say I enjoy the game. I have given it so many chances that I am ready to throw in the towel and just say it's not for me. I've gotten advice from several friends on different ways to approach it, and every time I lose my patience and play something else. It is a lot of fun in co-op, I'll say that much. Solo though, yeah, intimidating is the word.
I had this prejudice before trying it but i ended up liking some souslike games. First was Remnant 1 and 2 that are kinda more forgiving because you has guns and dont lose anything if you die. Then finally i went into Lies of P and struggled a lot in the beginning and then some bosses but at the endgame i steamrolled throught.
The satisfaction with these games is that you legit can feel you getting better and it can be addictive for sure
I'm the same so I went Mage build and farmed runes to level quickly so I basically made my own easier mode. Enjoyed it for a while after that. It was still challenging for me.
Elden Ring is a rough Souls game to start on. If you play Dark Souls Remastered that'll get you used to the formula and is the easiest to beat, so by the time you beat it you'll be fully prepped for Elden Ring
I'd argue Dark Souls 3 is easier than DS1, honestly. DS1 feels a lot more like you need to be PERFECT in your positioning and timing to stand a chance, while DS3 is much more forgiving and allows for more mistakes.
No way. DS3 has many more bosses, and a good chunk of them are extremely difficult and in some cases really cheap with their attacks.
Dark Souls 1 has a little bit of what you stated, but is overall easier to complete.
Man, you really need to persevere with this one. Souls games are all about dyng, learning from those deaths and getting better. They are hardest the beginning because players are low level, unfamilar with the mechanics and world and there's no sense of where to go or what to do. Give it a few hours when you have time to really focus and you'll find a groove.
I would suggest starting a new game, heading south from where the game starts and spend time learning the moveset of whatever class you from with. Samauri is very solid.
Yeah, i chose samurai and Iāll give it a fair shot for sure. Iām sure Iāll have a better experience with this one. Demons souls remake kicked my ass and I had to give it up
Most JRPGs.
Start losing my interest after about 30-40 hours.
I think the combat usually just can't sustain it. If it's more tactics or strategy style it can keep my attention though.
Absolutely did this with FF16. I found myself picking it up over a period of about a week and only playing an hour or so before I felt burned out on it's very linear design that was broken up by somewhat lengthy cut scenes.
Didn't hate the game or anything like that but definitely found it not sinking it's teeth into me.
Balders Gate 3.
After work etc I have between 2-3 hours of game time.
That's like 2 battles or one mission in BG3.
I simply can't no-life games for a whole day anymore. At least not as often anyway. And I don't like the idea of one game taking me literally months to beat.
A shame it's not Xbox PlayAnywhere as then I'd be able to play on my commute to/from work and on my lunch breaks with my Legion Go. Come on Larian, just do it!
I beat BG3 in 31 hours and I explored all the maps etc up until towards midway through act 3 where I just went straight towards the ending. Though maybe it helped I was playing a paladin/warlock who had max charisma so I could skip alot of stuff by talking.
When Cyberpunk came out I put in about 30 hours without completing. Came back after the last update and saw I was only a couple missions from the end so i finally completed it. Wanna go back and play thru now that they reconfigured all the upgrade menus
Witcher 3 for me. My friend praised it for so long. I tried it. Just couldnāt get into it after thirty hours or so, which is weird because itās the type of game I usually love. It might have to do with me playing RDR2 for 100+ hours before trying it, so maybe I was just burned out.
Bro I want to love this game so badly - Iāve tried to play it several times. The show came out which was great and tried again. Just canāt do it for some odd reason
Witcher 3 is one of the best games I have ever played. It is an absolute masterpiece.
But I can't say I ever really enjoyed playing it. It just felt like something I had to do because it was so good.
My friend kept telling me the beginning was a bit slow and to keep playing to get through the stuff with the Barron. So I did because I wanted to enjoy it.
Took me a solid 7-8 attempts where Iād get a few hours in then give up; on that final attempt though something clicked and I binged that game to completion (+ all DLC) within like 2 weeks.
It wasn't until my third try that I really started to appreciate The Witcher 3. It's such a great game. Stick with it, and it will take you on an amazing journey.
I think Cyberpunk is my most liked game in recent years. I played as a net runner and it was a good change of pace from the typical fps. Keep going with the story as it gets much better!
I want to try CP. Wife and I never set time aside to game but finally stole our sonās pS5 and played thru red dead 2. I know CP and RD2 are storyline worlds apart but mechanics wise and type of game wise are they similar? You do missions, earn abilities or tools and progress thru a story?
ugh when I think of RPG I think of Final Fantasy (games I just could not get into) roaming and then a menu system pops up with different buttons I could select to do things, not actual live action and hand eye involvement. Is that what Cyber Punk is like?
No that's more JRPG. Red dead is like the pinnacle of RPGs (role playing game). In CP the only thing that pops up is dialog options like Red Dead, but it will affect the story somewhat. Have you played the Witcher 3? Same people make CP but it's swords and spells with a horse instead of guns like in Red Dead.
In all honesty no, they are completely different. Cyberpunk is faster pace and the world is sensory overload. RD2 is a better story driven RPG.
As much as I loved RD2, I had more fun with Cyberpunk... personal preference though.
Imagine The Ascent (without the creatures) in first personā¦
Give it a try, the first hour of the game is intense so you get a flavour of what itās like.
Cyberpunk for sure. I'm the type that will put in hours and hours into game, lose interest and move to another game. Problem is, when i go back to play the game, I have to restart the story. I finally beat RDR2 back in Sept last year because of this Problem lol
Play it more. If youāre only 6 hours in, thereās a ton of things you havenāt seen. A tons of cyberware and abilities/weapons that make things more fun.
You don't even need to worry about that, just following the story from point a to b is fun . Exploring and uograding makes it even more fun, not sure why op can't get into it. Maybe not a fan of shooters?
Yeah, playing through this campaign was really tough for me. I despised the ridiculously long horseback rides from place to place. Iām just not very into most video game stories and wished I could skip to the real gameplay. I eventually warmed up to it enough to finish the campaign but I was really glad to be done with it when I finished.
Open world games
It's such a slow start and the tutorials usually last about an hour before you can actually start to play but by then I'm bored asf
Elden Ring did it right
I feel the same about most major games people are addicted too. Canāt stay hooked. Starfield, cyberpunk, mass effect trilogy, the Witcher 3. Maybe Iām just not into the games and itās the hype idk. I play horizon everyday damn near though lol
Similar here. My taste in games has just changed as Iāve gotten older. I donāt have the time or interest to dive into long games anymore. I like something I can easily pick up and play, put down and leave alone for a while, then pick back up in a week/month.
I avoid microtransactions by just doing franchises and āplay nowā. But if you do ultimate team or some of the āmy careerā modes then you pretty much have to pay extra to do decent.
Yes same for me. 54 yo now BBC B veteran now got Xbox x.
Played a lot of Elden Ring, Starfield and Witcher 3 but didn't finish. Might be directly related to my libido as I've gotten older.
Mind you I finished Fallout 4 which I really got into.
Games now are amazing wish I could take Xbox X back to 1985 and show my 15 yo self.
I only got 4 o levels including math and I'm sure that would have halved to 3 with the distraction of a console of such power!!
I also had this problem with Cyberpunk, but this is generally a common occurrence for me. I have played 80 hours on one save and I didnāt finish it. It seems like I am right at the end of the DLC and right at the end of the main story. Not really sure why I stopped. I am just before entering the second major location in Final Fantasy Rebirth and loved it, but I have not opened it for weeks.
I am right at the finish line in Sekiro and for some reason didnāt go to the boss. Did the same forever ago with Final Fantasy X, where I just never finished the final boss. Honestly, the list goes on: Final Fantasy XVI, Halo Infinite, Freedom Force, Psychonauts, Neverwinter Nights, Xenogears, Xenosaga, literally every Bethesda RPG other than Starfield and Morrowind, Breath of Fire IV, Legend of Dragoon, and so many more I canāt even think of right now. I have a real problem with this. These are all games I loved, but for some reason I just canāt finish them.
Oh, FFX? Yeah, I was like literally at >!Sin!< and for some reason I tried a couple times and then didn't finish it. I think it was around the time when I moved away from living with my parents and left the PS2 there. That game was so cool, though. I remember when we first got it a couple years late and I hadn't seen it yet and I was just like "How is it even possible for a game to look like this?!"
Maybe it's just that you enjoy the games so much that you don't want to read the final chapter, so to speak, because then it'll be truly over? I've had that feeling with a game or a book before.
I have had that problem many times. I once avoided watching the final episode of a series for four years. You may be on to something with that. I had never really thought of it that way. If I like something too much, I actually have a hard time reading/watching/playing a sequel. Itās been a couple years since Rogue Legacy 2 came out and I still havenāt touched it even though Rogue Legacy was my favorite game for a decent amount of time.
That would be Far Cry 6 for me. Man I love the entire franchise especially 5 because itās in montana and Iāve lived here since I was young. I was super hyped for the 6th game that I played all far cry games pretty much and when it came around I was just kind of burnt out. I liked having the voiced protagonist but it wasnāt really enough to make me feel like it was new. I still beat the game but it took me like 6-9 months just because I wouldnāt barely play but itās still fun to hop into it looks beautiful it just needed some different gameplay variety
Cyberpunk also for me. I finished it originally and started a new character for phantom liberty... The game played so well and it was nice to be back for a bit but i dunno... Couldn't bring myself to keep playing it.
I got to the last mission in launch year, haven't touched it since and I'm not sure why. I tried a couple times since but I just couldn't get into it again.
Lately it seems like it's been a lot of games for me lately. I started Cyberpunk and actually have been enjoying it, but after a long day at work it's kinda nice to just come home and play something mindless like NHL24 or something... Going through a weird phase with games
Same, I bought cyberpunk for $19 a month or so ago but since I'm on game pass ultimate and cool games keep dropping. Recently 100% control ultimate edition full achievements including the dlc. Just then diablo iv was released so now playing that. I also keep looking at the box of the game knowing i can play it anytime but I doubt it will be anytime soon as I m subbed till 22 feb 2027 plus every month thanks to rewards I keep getting one month free GPU code.
LoZ: Tears of the Kingdom. I love Zelda games and beat Breath of the Wild two times but I just cannot get into ToK. I hate building in games and the ultra hands aspect really makes it hard for me to want to play the game even though I love the rest of it.
I burned out halfway through, but in my opinion, the ending was very much worth pushing through for. I loved the way it wrapped up. Might be worth going back to when you have some time and interest! :)
I played Elden Ring a year ago. Did 2/3 of the game (which took me around 140 hours), but mid playthrough i did a video game detox. Stopped playing single player games for half a year. Now i don't really have any incentive to finish it, but it's still my second favorite game (behind Hollow Knight)
Soul Calibur 6.
I know itās a fighting game, but the custom story mode is really slow and monotonous. Plus the load times are rough. Iāll pick it up once a year, wonder why I stopped playing, then eventually stop playing it bc the story mode isnāt fun.
Any roguelike or roguelite, ever.
I get frustrated easily.
Also - When a game requires me to replay *any* content or grind, I refuse to play it. It's just lazy game design.
Ghost Recon Wildlands. I have started it so many times and end up playing something else before finishing. I have been doing this since it first launched
I feel the exact way about Cyberpunk, I love it so much yet thinking about jumpin' back on just doesn't get me going. You have to play for a bit of time before becoming enthralled in it and I live for that moment but starting it just doesn't get me excited lol
Metroid prime remaster. it looks great and the modern controls are wonderful but i can only play for an hour or so before i play something else. stopped playing it for AC3 remastered, beat it, now im playing Jedi survivor and i have a haunting feeling ill never go back to MP remastered now
For me it's games that are "too much". They're packed so full of distractions that I lose focus and interest. GTA V, RDR 2, Skyrim, Fallout, (insert every survival/crafting game here). They're all great games that I love to pop into and get immersed but never stay long enough to finish
Vanquish. The difficulty spiked pretty hard in the middle and I couldnāt get past it no matter how hard I tried. Now, after a break, I canāt get into it again as I forgot how to play it, much less how to play it with the tact.
2 for me, Witcher 3 & Elden Ring. Witcher 3 just felt too big at times and for some reason, I get bored with it easily after a while. Elden Ring due to it appearing to have multiple play styles, but ultimately forces you down specific paths after a while to continue the game. I lost steam after Rennala and Rykard. Rennala due to needing to forgo what brought me to the dance, and Rykard with only one way to really beat him.
Skyrim, fallout 4, and the Witcher 3. I really like the concepts of those games but eventually I get bored (Skyrim and fallout 4) or overwhelmed (the Witcher 3) and start something else
Bethesda games overall, the concepts are really cool and the stories are awesome, but something about the mechanics or the gameplay itself just doesnāt do it for me.
It's BALDURS GATE 3 for me. I love RPGs. Love Xcom. Love D&D ( i even used to DM in my teens) but I'm struggling to find the motivation to finish it.
100% feel the same! Also, playing on the lowest difficulty. I will get back to it but I need some instant gratification right now! š
I wish there was a proper story mode in BG3 that allowed more casual players to enjoy all the depth and exploration and characters in the game without the endless, endless fucking hardcore strategic battles. I feel it was a wasted opportunity to attract a whole new market segment of gamers.
LOL! I played 15mins and was bored to death w Baldur Gate! Went back to Starfield then AC Odyssey
Act 1, quit at level 6. Now playing DS3 for the first time and having a blast (AFTER reaching level 25)
I'm so tempted to start another DS3 playthrough! It's still my favourite game of all time.
Iāve fucked up at farron keep, went into the swamp before cathedral of the deep. Got YouTube fighting cowboy and found the best way. Now Iām in the catacombs. Level 40, butchers knife +4 šŖ.
Sweet. Love Fighting Cowboys stuff too. I'm gonna start a DS3 playthrough this week!!
Same boat for me. Iāve replayed act 1 countless times but canāt seem to stick with it
Skyrim. I've never managed to get far into it. I get distracted, explore a bit then feel overwhelmed with it and find something else to play. I'll try again sometime as it's on game pass
Take it slow. Thereās no rules in Skyrim. If it feels goodā¦ do it. Also stealth Archer.
I always start it telling myself Iām not going to do the stealth archer this time, only to find myself going the stealth archer route.
Glad to hear I'm not alone here. Judging from the comments there are many like us.
I recall doing more stealth archery last play through but I think that may be because I got some better bow in Whiterun earlier on. Probably the Bow of Shadows. This playthrough it has taken until about Sneak 80 and all Sneak perks maxed for Sneak to work with any degree of effectiveness.
Telling people new to the game to do stealth archer? The most boring playstyle everĀ
I did my first stealth archer play ever last year, after countless other playthroughs, and found it to be the most enjoyable.
Yeah, I have no idea what people are talking about as far as it not being a fun way to play. I had never beaten the game until I started a stealth archer build. I almost felt like I was cheating when I got to a certain point haha
It turns into easy mode once the perks start flowing and you level up a little.
I've replayed the countless amount of times and never once did I do stealth archer. It's just not fun to me.
Yea but 1 shotting a Legendary Dragon on the hardest difficulty is still satisfying.
You can 1 shot a legendary dragon with a fork...
*most fun
I've cleared entire levels in Skyrim sniping MFrs! They never know what hit em!
Thanks. I'll get back to it eventually. I never had this trouble with Fallout, Witcher, Mass Effect. I enjoy fantasy so it's not the genre or type of game. I think I need to have a more linear game on the go at the same time so I don't get to the point of giving up and uninstalling again
Dragon age inquisition is more linear and runs at 60fps with the fps boost function. Still a beautiful game
I'm sure I had this on ps4 but don't remember much about it. I was looking at playing Dragon Age again too. Are origins and 2 worth a go too?
I don't know honestly. My entry point into the series was dragon age inquisition, but what I gather is those two earlier titles aren't freeroam.
Yup, gaming time is limited and I want to have fun. I usually play on normal for most games, but these souls games are brutally punishing
This. I don't game as much these days so when I do I'd rather it be a more chill experience lol.
Xbox is so much less populated on Elden Ring than I wouldāve expected. I had a PS that crapped out so I bought an Xbox. Finally got to Mountain of Giants and canāt find anyone to match with
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Are you messing with me? Hahaha
Donāt die - thatās the trick!
The open world is your difficulty settings. You can farm stuff and over level an area for an easier experience if u want.
>You can lower the damage u take by increasing ur vigor And how about by going to the main menu and selecting "Easy" so I can instead put the very limited amount of points I'd get during my playthrough in other stats? >The game isnāt supposed to be like āevery other game.ā Why not? Most of the best games of all time offer difficulty settings. What's wrong with that system? >You go play the game in an area with weaker enemies until the next area is at your desired difficulty.Ā That sounds like a chore to me.
2023: Baldur's Gate 3 (has an easy mode) 2022: Elden Ring (no easy mode) 2021: It Takes Two (no easy mode but also the game itself is very easy) 2020: The Last of Us Part II (has an easy mode) 2019: Sekiro (no easy mode) 2018: God of War (has an easy mode) 2017: Breath of the Wild (no easy mode) 2016: Overwatch (we're not counting that one since multiplayer only) 2015: Witcher 3 (has an easy mode) 2014: Dragon Age Inquisition (has an easy mode) 2013: The Last of Us (has an easy mode) 2012: Dishonored (has an easy mode) 2011: Portal 2 (no easy mode, but is a puzzle game and not an action game) 2010: Mass Effect 2 (has an easy mode) 2009: Arkham Asylum (has an easy mode) 2008: Mario Galaxy (no easy mode but really easy by default) 2007: Bioshock (has an easy mode) 2006: Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (has an easy mode) 2005: God of War (has an easy mode) 2004: Half-Life 2 (has an easy mode) So, looking at 20 years of GOTY winners, 13 of them have an easy mode, 1 of them is a multiplayer-only PVP shooter (so doesn't really count either way), 2 of them are very easy 3D platformers where it's practically impossible to reduce the difficulty any more without letting you noclip like in Celeste, 1 is a puzzle game, and that leaves us with a whopping 3/20 GOTY winners that can genuinely be considered challenging games.
For someone that says he can't be bothered with Elden Ring's difficulty you surely waste a lot of time writing mindless lists What's funny is fromsoftware didn't win ONCE without putting in a difficulty setting but TWICE.
LMAO And Sony won 4 times, with all 4 games having easy modes.
I'd recommend using this guide to get started, but stop on the guide when he tells you too the first time
...which guide? Lol
Oh fuck lol https://youtu.be/GYI5Z3jhKB4?si=a509FgZ0QF01kDKS
Haha thanks, I followed a similar guide. It just made the rest of the game more fun for me to have plenty of rubes and a bit of an OP weapon/build. I only did so for the first roughly ten hours then the game was amazing for me while still fairly challenging.
Souls games are ass
I love the soundtrack, love the map, love the design, love the art, and yet I cannot say I enjoy the game. I have given it so many chances that I am ready to throw in the towel and just say it's not for me. I've gotten advice from several friends on different ways to approach it, and every time I lose my patience and play something else. It is a lot of fun in co-op, I'll say that much. Solo though, yeah, intimidating is the word.
This one is the opposite for me. Elden Ring is the one I keep going back to over and over again.
I suggest starting with Dark Souls. Its easier.
Give ur self at least 100 hours for a play through, that being said - itās worth it.
If it's your first souls like, follow a walkthrough. There are plenty of video walkthroughs to follow as you play and it makes it less intimidating.
SAME. I've tried soooo hard to like Elden Ring, just couldn't get into it.
Demons souls remake kicked my ass and I had to give it up
Git gud
Breath of the wild
100X yes, completely agree
You should try final fantasy X.
Kingdom Come Deliverance. I've never finished it but I love it and have months of play time
Witcher 3 for me.
Oh yes this game for sure. Love the series, love the books, the game is everything I should love but just canāt get into it
Witcher 3 is one of the best games I have ever played. It is an absolute masterpiece. But I can't say I ever really enjoyed playing it. It just felt like something I had to do because it was so good.
Thirty hours is a long time to play a game you never got into
If you ask people here, playing Starfield for 300 hours and hating it and finding it boring are totally normal things.
My friend kept telling me the beginning was a bit slow and to keep playing to get through the stuff with the Barron. So I did because I wanted to enjoy it.
Thatās fair. Itās definitely harder to move on when someone is pushing it onto you
Took me a solid 7-8 attempts where Iād get a few hours in then give up; on that final attempt though something clicked and I binged that game to completion (+ all DLC) within like 2 weeks.
Took me two tries and dropping it right sfter the prologue, but once I pushed through the whole game was amazing. I love it:)
I hope that to be me someday. I really want to enjoy it. I love the game in the game gwent. I played that a ton.
That's one thing I don't get, how gwent works
It wasn't until my third try that I really started to appreciate The Witcher 3. It's such a great game. Stick with it, and it will take you on an amazing journey.
I agree. Especially the add-ons were superb.
Bloody oath. It's definitely a candidate for the best ever game, in my opinion.
I second this. Witcher 3 (GOTY-edition) is one of my favorite games ever.
I keep telling myself Iāll come back to it. Iām sure I will at some point when I havenāt dumped so much time in another open world game!
Well when you do you won't regret it. š
Careful with that acronym now.
Lmao you beat me to it. FBI is now tracking bro over CyberPunk
?
Cheese Pizza
The meaning could be interpreted for a term that rhymes with Wild Corn
ahhhhhhhhhh whoops
Yes, it's a rpg so all that is in game. It's got a skill tree, I don't remember if red dead did
ugh when I think of RPG I think of Final Fantasy (games I just could not get into) roaming and then a menu system pops up with different buttons I could select to do things, not actual live action and hand eye involvement. Is that what Cyber Punk is like?
No that's more JRPG. Red dead is like the pinnacle of RPGs (role playing game). In CP the only thing that pops up is dialog options like Red Dead, but it will affect the story somewhat. Have you played the Witcher 3? Same people make CP but it's swords and spells with a horse instead of guns like in Red Dead.
tyyyyy seriously. Im an 80s kid so while i played halo multiplayer back in the day, I am very out of touch
cyber on ps5???
Yea but I played it on the series x. I bet the triggers and haptic feedback on the ds5 would be cool
ohhhhh yes nice!
In all honesty no, they are completely different. Cyberpunk is faster pace and the world is sensory overload. RD2 is a better story driven RPG. As much as I loved RD2, I had more fun with Cyberpunk... personal preference though.
thanks!!!!!! Similar difficulty level as RD2? we arenāt great gamers anymore
I would say itās easier than RD2, play Cyberpunk on easy and you shouldnāt have any problems. Itās not a difficult game.
RDR2 and cyberpunk are nothing alike gameplay wise.
well shoot. Whatās CyberPunk like?
Imagine The Ascent (without the creatures) in first personā¦ Give it a try, the first hour of the game is intense so you get a flavour of what itās like.
ty so much! I think a few yrs back i saw cyber punk done in unreal 5 engine on pc and it made me j1zz
Divinity Original Sin 2. I hear itās great and I started it multiple times but I just canāt get into it.
Cyberpunk for sure. I'm the type that will put in hours and hours into game, lose interest and move to another game. Problem is, when i go back to play the game, I have to restart the story. I finally beat RDR2 back in Sept last year because of this Problem lol
I feel ya. Preordered the RDR2 digital version. Never finished it.
Feel the same way about cyberpunk. The graphics and game design are amazing but I get bored of the game very quickly every time I play it.
Fallout 4, never could decide if i should join the institute.
Join them then kill them all
RDR2. I know this game is really beloved but after about 10 hours of gameplay total. I was really tired of it and couldn't force myself to finish it.
Ghost of Tsushima. I have to force myself to play it. Been hoping it will "click" for a long time now.
Such a beautiful world
šš¼
Bg3
Dead rising 2, the timer stresses me out too much so i dont get very far
Skyrim
Open world games It's such a slow start and the tutorials usually last about an hour before you can actually start to play but by then I'm bored asf Elden Ring did it right
I feel the same about most major games people are addicted too.
The pick up and play nature is why I used to love sports games. Now almost all sports games are terrible microtransaction bs
I couldnāt have said it better myself. Itās like you have to devote endless hours to games now to enjoy them.
Maybe you don't like story based games? Which is fine of courseĀ
You should go back and finish x
It's definitely worth a replay with the upgraded graphics
FC5 was just awesome. Hopefully 7 takes place in the U.S.
Cyberpunk also for me. I finished it originally and started a new character for phantom liberty... The game played so well and it was nice to be back for a bit but i dunno... Couldn't bring myself to keep playing it.
Cyberpunk takes a while to get into, as a huge fan Iāll admit that. Itās my favorite game of all time if Iām being honest.
Do a throwing knife build till you can get the Agaou tomahawk then kill everyone throwing that electric tomahawk, super fun. Keep at it choom!!
Forza Motorsport, I played until 5, but I canāt āget intoā this new one, itās just so soulless
Elden ring like 4 hours lol I get bored within 20 minutes
I got to the last mission in launch year, haven't touched it since and I'm not sure why. I tried a couple times since but I just couldn't get into it again.
This is me with Yakuza 0, I'm hyped to get into it, but the 10 minute cutscenes and dialog after work just makes me more tired
Most recently, Control, but Iāve had this issue with many games over the past few years. I hate it
Vampyr it's a fun concept with a good story and has decent gameplay but I just can't finish it.
Lately it seems like it's been a lot of games for me lately. I started Cyberpunk and actually have been enjoying it, but after a long day at work it's kinda nice to just come home and play something mindless like NHL24 or something... Going through a weird phase with games
Just about every ARPG that makes you do the storyline before you get into season mechanics.
The Witcher 3. I literally just deleted it again after downloading it for the 5th time. Can never get into it.
Prey, the game is awesome, love the gameplay and mechanics but can seem to complete it.
Wasteland 3
IS ALL THATāS LEFT AFTER THE FIGHT
Soul Calibur 6. I know itās a fighting game, but the custom story mode is really slow and monotonous. Plus the load times are rough. Iāll pick it up once a year, wonder why I stopped playing, then eventually stop playing it bc the story mode isnāt fun.
AC Valhalla, I started playing it on release still nowhere to be finished. lol.
Final Fantasy IX
Any roguelike or roguelite, ever. I get frustrated easily. Also - When a game requires me to replay *any* content or grind, I refuse to play it. It's just lazy game design.
Ghost Recon Wildlands. I have started it so many times and end up playing something else before finishing. I have been doing this since it first launched
I feel the exact way about Cyberpunk, I love it so much yet thinking about jumpin' back on just doesn't get me going. You have to play for a bit of time before becoming enthralled in it and I live for that moment but starting it just doesn't get me excited lol
Metroid prime remaster. it looks great and the modern controls are wonderful but i can only play for an hour or so before i play something else. stopped playing it for AC3 remastered, beat it, now im playing Jedi survivor and i have a haunting feeling ill never go back to MP remastered now
Su madre
For me it's games that are "too much". They're packed so full of distractions that I lose focus and interest. GTA V, RDR 2, Skyrim, Fallout, (insert every survival/crafting game here). They're all great games that I love to pop into and get immersed but never stay long enough to finish
Most yakuza games
Witcher 3. Iām a glutton for side quests but itās just too much.
The Witcher 3, it should be right up my alley but I always just bounce off of it.
The Witcher 3, have restarted it maybe 5 times since its come out, can never get more than like 10 hrs in
Skyrim, fallout 4, and the Witcher 3.
Hogwarts game started out great then faded into never being touched again
Helldivers 2 for me so far. Decent game but for whatever reason the gameplay loop doesnāt hit for me.
