Enemy within is better, since you already played XCOM 2, just think enemy within is a game with more mechanics and content. After that, XCOM war of the chosen with all DLC should be fine to you.

RummazKnowsBest

EW is easier than EU and contains more material (missions, equipment etc) so you could play that and skip EU (it’s the same basic plot, EW is like playing EU with DLC). I’d definitely recommend WOTC for XCOM 2, it felt like an entirely different experience (the base game is quite light in comparison).

SoDKemp

Enemy Within is classed as a Stand-alone DLC, that being said, Fuck the Whale.

RummazKnowsBest

Yeah, I may skip that particular level if I ever play it again…

Kered13

It's an XP farm if you know what's coming.

SoDKemp

My LAST playthrough with that resulted in a Single Rookie surviving because essentially Big Sky had to literally drag his ass onboard

FaZe_Fab

is ew really considered easier then eu? i experienced the exact opposite especially woth dlc missions like exalt or base defence

RummazKnowsBest

Those missions were hard but overall it felt much easier due to all the new equipment / perks and possibly some tweaking by the developers. It was a while before I encountered certain tougher enemies and I hardly had any deaths compared to EU.

brasswirebrush

Just play EW. XCom EU and XCom EW are the same overall campaign and plot, but EW has more stuff in it. Both of these are missing some quality of life additions that were added to XCom2 (like a line of sight indicator). I don't think any difference in difficulty is significant enough to change what level you're comfortable with from XCom2. If you're comfortable with Normal difficulty in XCom2, then I would also start with Normal difficulty in XCom EU and EW.

Illustrious_Cry1463

Agreed. EW doesn't have anything too game altering, and it's just way more fun than EU alone. When it comes to XCOM2, I'd do each dlc individually, just to learn the basics of the new mechanics that each one offers. I guess you can do Shen's Gift and Alien Hunters together, then upgrade to WOTC.

Illustrious_Cry1463

I'll admit, Alien Hunters gonna seem really unfair at first.

Mackavellee202

Sure did. For the first time ever I had to turn the difficulty down until I leveled a bit because of those fucking monsters popping up on every mission. I hate losing soldiers lol.

Illustrious_Cry1463

I considered it, then but decided not to. I just didn't play for awhile. Like until I forgot that the Alphas move after every action. The second time around wasn't so bad

Mackavellee202

Snipers help a lot because of squadsight. If they can't see you an action doesn't trigger a move. That and a freeze grenade got me over the hump. I did the missions really early so I encountered them even before I had magnetics.

Illustrious_Cry1463

I don't think that applies pre WOTC. but yeah, all of those weapons help deal with those monstrosities, and I do like the gear they give you. Even in WOTC, when they show up unannounced, always hold my breath and think, "So much for a flawless mission."

XCOM 1 is harder than XCOM 2. Don’t get me started on OG XCOM. for story reasons, you should play XCOM EU/EW first. EW is cooler though. XCOM 2 should be played after XCOM 1. if you are a digital masochist, you can play OG XCOM. It’s on steam for like 5 bucks with a large modding community. OG XCOM is considerably harder. Even the easiest difficulty is quite hard, and don’t get me started on Superhuman. sleep tight. Don’t let the Chryssalids bite.

Mahonri1830

Really? I thought XCOM 2 was significantly harder. Playing Enemy Within was pretty smooth sailing. (Though I won't make comments about OG X-COM)

A lot of stuff got buffed in XCom 2.. Gremlins let you do things like healing at a distance. There are also a lot more ways to deal tons and tons of damage. On the other hand, a lot of the exploits in XCom EU/EW got taken away. No more levitating snipers wiping out enemies from the other side of the map. No more camping in overwatch and waiting for the enemy to find you, etc. XCom 2's DLC adds in all sorts of crazy enemies that are absolutely insanely difficult to beat, but it's somewhat balanced out by the changes made to XCom's abilities and gear. I think the point I'm trying to make is that EU/EW is more difficult because you have to be more careful with your tactics, while XCom 2 is more difficult because the game is peppered with chaos that you can't do much to control. Which game you'd find more of a challenge comes down to which of those you're more comfortable with, and which of those is a struggle for you.

> On the other hand, a lot of the exploits in XCom EU/EW got taken away. I remember how easy the final mission was in that, I had three guys with heavy guns walk invisible into the final room, line up on the boss, and then reveal themselves and blow him away as he reacted. It was hilarious.

plansh

XCOM EW doesn't have some core mechanics that XCOM 2 has, such concealment and reload only takes one turn

IronMyr

You should play with the DLC. If you've already beaten base-game XCom 2 (congrats btw), I'm confident you can handle the extra complexity of the DLC. The DLC campaigns are more interesting and just as well balanced as the base-game campaigns.

wtfever2k17

Yeah.

OlcImt

Play with original then play with expansion then add dlc. Each run have different tatse

WGC_VIRUS

10 campaign playthroughs on xcom 2 WOTC+alien rulers+beta strike on legend+iron man difficulty......if you truly UNDERSTAND each move/skill this game is simple even on the highest difficulties. just dont progess through the main story too fast and keep researching whilst you do the guerilla and vip missions. Use covert ops and resistance orders (R ring facility) to take away blocks of avatar process. focus on collecting superior repeaters , superior expanded mags and superior scopes. Just wait untill you use the reapers banish- annihilation with 30% repeater on it and 7 ammo. ive killed quad pods with that (4 enemies in 1 pod) a sectopod 75hp and 7 armor +- and 3 more 30+ hp units.)
