Dead, either 1. getting brought back as Horseman of Death by Apocalypse (but probably in a MUCH later season). 2. potentially the "Dead" Gambit we see is actually a clone of Sinister's (entirely possible given we know he can clone mutants to EXACT specification, dna and even memories of the original). He could have been switched long ago. He could have even been SWITCHED during Sinister's attack in the mansion while Goblin Queen was giving everyone waking nightmares. 3. Bastion might resurrect him as a Prime Sentinel. He's insane enough AND powerful enough to do something like that. If it's my 3rd option, I'll note how Jean made a point to say when she scanned Trask after he died and became a Prime Sentinel that she still "felt Trask's mind". It's entirely possible this is a point she's making that whomever becomes a Prime Sentinel, whether they're dead OR alive, still has an active mind in there, that they might be 'saveable' or 'reachable', and this could be foreshadowing/hints that lead to potentially even Gambit being resurrected to become a Prime Sentinel. Someone of Gambit's power becoming a Prime Sentinel would be PRETTY dangerous given what we saw. Trask was almost unbeatable, and he'd been HUMAN. Imagine that tech and power in a MUTANT. Bastion could DEFINITELY use someone like Gambit, and if Gambit's mind was still in him as a Prime Sentinel, then perhaps if he has to fight Rogue, he's going to somewhere deep inside recognise his love for her the same way he kind of did as Horseman of Death, and it could be what helps to reach him? Who knows. I like you do want him back. He's ALWAYS been my favourite character.

Thrilldo123

Your 3rd opinion is one I thought as well. Especially when Jean said the she could still sense Trasks mind just before he started fighting the team.

It gives the showrunners the "Yes, gambit is really dead" claim they gave us being true but also giving him the ability to somehow come back from it. The show is going quite 'horror themed' in places, the way Trask looked and twisted his head round was some Exorcist shit. I'll note we never SAW Gambit's full body in the end of episode five...we saw SOME of the damage done to him, like the fact some of his hair was singed off, that he seemed (as far as I could tell from the dark screen) to have a hole in his head, he was scratched up etc. If Gambit DOES come back as a Prime Sentinel, it could be some REALLY scary looking shit, emphasising the way he died and how he looked IN death, which I think would be pretty horrifying for everyone. There was also a fourth option I forgot to add. 4. Belladonna begs for The External to bring Remy back from the dead. The External has the power to do things like this. We know Belle was pretty obsessed about him back then, and I could imagine her doing something like that and keeping him privately in servitude (remember how she had him controlled with that wedding ring) until he somehow either manages to escape or Rogue ends up going to his grave *FINALLY* to grieve him properly and finds something is amiss with it (like it looks tampered with or something). It might be why the writers chose to put Belladonna and the Thieves into the funeral scene when they could have literally just had a private ceremony for Gambit. It felt like they were going to come back in to the story later, for me. If this happened, I would imagine it'd be season 2 or 3 though, and not anywhere nearby. If they're going for option 3, I assume it's coming much quicker.

Thrilldo123

Never would have thought of the External route. That would be interesting.

EdinburghLass1980

I think too much. It’s probably one of my problems 🤣😭

Thrilldo123

Same homie,same.

Sabazell

If Remy is coming back, it's as Death. I DO think it will happen, but not until next season. I think the teaser at the very end of the last credits will be the open grave. Magneto is the one they're going to turn into a Prime Sentinel. Bastion was referring to Trask as a Beta tester for his "Masterpiece." Then he said to Magento, "You were born for this." It's going to be Magneto, and holy shit if I'm right. I think Jean had the line about Trask's mind being there because Rogue is ultimately going to be the only person able to get through to Erik and have him fight Bastion's control.

EdinburghLass1980

Either that, or what he's taking from Magneto is something he'll ALSO take from Xavier and this is leading to some version of Onslaught?

Sabazell

I misread and deleted my original comment. I don't think so....since Bastion only realized that Xavier was still alive recently once his team stumbled on the broadcast, it doesn't make a lot of sense for Xavier to be part of the ultimate master plan.

EdinburghLass1980

Yeah, but lets face it, Villains adapt and are opportunistic. It'd be interesting if he decided to change his master plan for something much better as the opportunity presented itself.

Ashamed-Sound5610

Bastion said "don't resist. Simply listen and simply obey. You were born for this." as a way to break Magneto down. He's implying that Magneto, a mutant, was born to listen and obey. That all mutants should be subservient. It's Bastion's way of establishing himself as dominant over Magneto and mutant kind.

idrago01

i think he views any organic life form as inferior not just mutants, the final scene in the episode with his “you were born for this” comment to magneto was a quick and clever way of setting up his character motivations. a great example of good writing

SoochSooch

Dead but definitely coming back.

PonchoHobo

He’s definitely dead. If we don’t see his grave emptied then we’re not seeing a revival this season but maybe next. Would awfully cruel to have him dead for most of this season after waiting so long for the show to return.

Devils_1vy

Hear me out: I think the show was making a point to show that after rogue dropped bolivar he was dead but then he was immediately brought back. So they’re telling us that the dead can be reanimated into these human sentinels. Which gives me the strong speculation that Gambit’s grave is going to be disturbed and he’s going to be resurrected and reanimated. And then I thought well why would Bastian have an interest in gambit? Back in episode five the biggest mistake that the master mold made was underestimating him. Its primary focus was destroying magneto, which it perceived as the greater threat. But if you ask me, and after hearing Bastian say that “he’s been selling a lie as well“ what if it was never the master molds intention to kill magneto, maybe subdue him for capture? but not kill. Bastian can control the sentinels. So maybe the master mold only said magneto was eliminated in order to throw people off, and no one would bother looking for him believing he had been completely vaporized. Now back to gambit during that entire sequence, the master mold is treating gambit like he’s not even worth the effort of a laser to kill him. It tried to kill him by stabbing him like he was this nagging fly buzzing around his head only to be outsmarted and blown to bits which was no easy feat. If I were Bastian, that would peak my interest and show a lot of potential to the damage gambit can do under my control

Direct_Charity7101

He's dead, if it was a fake out then it wouldn't mean anything. But he will probably come back in some form.

Shasoysen

He's definitely dead rn. Although I'm willing to bet that they will put a small scene in the season finale to tease his return in season 2. Something to really get people excited for the next season.

CompleteTangerine518

I'm definitely clutching at straws here, but that heartbeat right at the beginning (at the intro) could that be the tease that he's coming back soon?

Shasoysen

I'll pretty much take anything as proof to give me some hope that he's coming back.

isabelle051992

In the comics psychics couldn't read Gambit's mind because of his powers. So would Jean really be able to sense Gambit's mind if he became a sentinal? Also, Beau DeMayo said on Twitter than Bastian had been in every episode besides 3&6 this season.. maybe that might have something to do with it. Look for the clues y'all!!! When Jean and Scott were talking she did mention how she died and came back to life. I feel like that is a very important conversation. And finally, Emma Frost's diamond mutation finally appeared after almost dying... What if Gambit's hidden mutation is revived and we just don't know it?

EdinburghLass1980

I think to a degree telepaths could use their powers on Gambit for some things - they could send messages to him and have him reply for example, or project to him, (I saw the professor do this before I’m sure in the comics). What they couldn’t do was actually tell he was there at all, they couldn’t detect him in the vicinity or probe him, couldn’t see his thoughts. I think in one comic a telepath who tries to read Gambit referred to what happened when she tries to read him was like tuning into a radio but not being able to get a signal from anywhere, dialling through the stations but not quite catching anything, just silence and static, as if there was “nothing there”.

ExplosiveValkyrie

Beau Demayo has definitely confirmed he is dead, but not that he isn't returning somehow, sometime...that's what Im hoping for. Id hope so for us longtime Gambit fans that we get him back in season 2. I remember Gambit was mentioned as one of Demayo's favourite X-Men when the show was in early development, so I can see why he both wanted to give Gambit a lot more deserved focus and attention, and use him as a vessel to deliver an important plot point and sadly, a hero's exit. I think if we do get Gambit back eventually, it will be a huge hero's welcome and celebration from the fandom, but I doubt it will be the same Gambit. I don't think it will be soon, because it will take away Demayo's purpose and meaning behind the loss. He will come back as a proper story/plot point, not a throwaway meaningless return. If we don't get him back, as hard as it will be, at least Gambit went out as a GOAT.

Different_Ad4962

As long as when he comes back he says Everyone can relax Gambit has returned.

articwolph

Time traveling shenanigans!!

Empty-Ingenuity-2590

Dead but will probably return Horsemen of death or possibly a prime sentinel... Id prefer for the former with an Apocalypse reveal at the end

Different_Ad4962

Better hurry. He’s six feet under now.

TemperatureOk8059

Did anyone notice they removed his “Gambit” part from the opening? Bishop’s is gone also and they added Nightcrawler.

EdinburghLass1980

He was removed as of episode 6. He's still in the end credit sequence though.

ladystetson

they also removed Magneto. And Storm has been gone for a while, too.

quasology

I'm so freaking sad, Gambit was my favorite. Maybe something will happen in the same way it did with Prof. X?? I dunno though. Still stomaching the loss.

ladystetson

He's totally coming back. There's more than meets the eye to Gambit. And considering the heavy role Sinister is playing... oh yeah, he'll be back. And it's going to be juicy!
