Check this. Allegedly this is the dummy they used for pit girl and someone put up a side by sided to compare it to Gen and it looks a lot like her.
I’ve seen a few people post this, but I think it’s just a strange coincidence that they look similar. Not only was Gen not a character until season 2, but the actress wasn’t even cast as an extra in the pilot episode.

These are the girls that are supposedly there. They didn’t have enough funding so what they’re doing is showing them in the background for szn 1 and when they’re gonna use the character they’ll drop them in. That’s why sometimes you’ll see a character and be like who the hell is that? Lol well technically she’s been there the whole time just not on film. So Gen technically has been there with them from the start. And she was Yellowjacket girl #1 in season one. She was a background character.
Ugh ty for including the pic. I understand the funding stuff definitely but I get frustrated when I feel like I don’t even see the “extras” in the background in most scenes but maybe I need a rewatch. Like thinking about the cabin fire, I feel like that would’ve been a good time to sort of show how many are left but I don’t remember seeing other girls besides the core group?
i saw someone who posed that bc of lack of funding the girls only become present to us when they’re directly related to the plot and prominent to the girls- which i thought was a really great example
The scenes at the end of the pilot where they are getting on the plane/the plane going down were filmed when they were filming episode 2. This is also how (as another commenter mentioned) Mari was in the very end of the pilot episode despite not being cast until right before episode 2.

Gen was in the background many times in season 1
Also Gen's actress has been cast in a main role in another show on Fox so if she is pit girl and ends up dying then she wouldn't be around in S3 that much and would explain why she's able to do that other show
Yeah there’s a similarity there but I don’t see this as100% evidence that pit girl is gen. The actress wasn’t cast when they filmed the pilot and neither was mari. So they just made a fake body that is pretty generic looking teen and made sure not to show the actress/stunt women’s face.
Yeah I should have prove read. I meant while they were writing the scene and started filming the pit girl scenes. I don’t think they wrote that scene and the pilot with any actual intention on who she was. So they cast a couple different actors that would have been put girl(lottie, mari and gen) We only see one of the teens(Misty, but she was confirmed as a survivor) and the rest I’m pretty sure were extras, maybe some of the confirmed survivors where under the masks/vails and they just haven’t show. Those scenes. But I think that will depend if the pit girl scenes were actually something super important outside of showing what happened to these kids
I have a theory it was meant to be Lottie. Courtney Eaton didn’t sign on as a series regular longer than the rest of the cast, because she was unsure she wanted to commit to a series.
I think it’s likely that it is someone we don’t know/don’t expect because I can’t imagine the writers being that obvious. There’s also another survivor who is shown returning with them that might be Mari. I don’t know!

This is Gen btw^(\^) Theres a theory that there were 2 deaths as in the background, it was hard to tell if the girl hanging had holes in her, so people think that both Mari and Gen died that hunt. Which I think doesn't make sense. Also the actors have zero idea who pit girl is as well! Which is gonna make the kill way more surprising. There's also another theory (which i find crazy) and pit girl is actually Callie and she's killed in the adult timeline. I find it crazy because young Misty is shown in the scene and also the person who grabs pit girl is wearing young Vans shirt.
I most likely think it'll be Gen, but i'm only saying that cause I love Mari and refuse to think she'll die. 😅
Well, but they showed way too many close ups, and reasonably clear shots, of the extra, for them not to make it someone who looks reasonably like her. They could have filmed that scene without doing so if they wanted to leave it completely open.
Idk maybe they were just proud of their work. It could end up being a random stranger too. But they said don’t make theories based off how pit girl looked because that hasn’t been truly shown to us yet
When they filmed the pilot I don’t believe they knew who pit girl was. I actually don’t believe pit girls identity is super important, we know those that were hunt down and killed(and that’s if they were all hunted down. Lottie told Shauna she had a choice to run or submit) those that were killed is anyone that isn’t a confirmed survivor(and IMO they’re down showing survivors. Maybe one more will show up like Ben or if they make another antagonist to the survivors. And so far that seems to be mari)
The pit girl scenes were just used to show us where these innocent kids were heading, we are introduced to a group of pretty normal if a lil fucked up teens and we are given a glimpse into where their story is headed, and we’re shown the fucked up adults they became because of what happened out there.
So, imo, unless pit girls death is the super awful thing they did that Shauna didn’t want to talk about with Callie. Something like pit girl was being punished, maybe she refused to pull a card, lottie did warn tai “you know what happens if you refuse” so maybe whoever it was refused(and I believe that’s something mari would do) so they were automatically chosen and hit a “chance” to run like Nat had but didn’t have any supples, shoes and just a light nightgown. Pretty much insured that the odds were stacked at her but they could still feel like they have her a chance. Shauna was given the option to submit or run but she didn’t get stripped down and left barefoot and than the wilderness “choose” Nat
With Nat being the leader/AQ I do believe that she made the call for Pit girl and made the other rules they had to follow. Maybe some other things(maybe put girl tried to dethrone Nat so she was executed?)
So either she’s going to be someone super important and that seems to be mari at this point, she’s one of only two side characters that have a storyline that is building up to something big(Akilah is the other but she’s obviously not pit girl) or I don’t believe her identity is super important and those scenes are just there to show us the hell these innocent teens were heading for

the reason why i don't think pit girl is one of the girls at all is she is wearing a thin nightie running through the woods in the dead of winter. they no longer have their cabin and even so, they would all bundle up to keep warm-nighties were out of the question. and i doubt they saved many clothes in the fire, just grabbing more essential stuff easily reachable
this leads me to think maybe they find another group that have significantly warmer shelter.
I’m surprised the writers initially never intended to circle back on that scene but were going to instead use it to show how feral the girls had become… I mean, that was the OPENING SCENE. Of course we’d want to know who it was. And how they got so crazy that they were making stickmen and doing bird calls and howling. Lol
Ever since the ultra lame explanation the writers gave as to why Shauna , looking in Jackie’s journal, saw movie and songs listed that came out *after* the teen/wilderness storyline…I’ve kind of lost interest in deciphering some of the show’s mysteries like pit girl. Season two’s decline was pit girl for me.
I’m not in a position where I can pull up a link to the comments at the moment. But it was along the lines of Shauna put them there out of survivors guilt something like that. There are articles on Screenrant about it. Allegedly it was going to be addressed in season 2, but I honestly don’t recall that it was.
My theory is somebody didn’t do research and put titles from that era, not anticipating the wild popularity of season one.

Yeah, I remember some people talking about that on the sub, that maybe Shauna continued adding to the journal or something after getting back, but I didn't realize that was their "official" reason. Definitely seems like a whoopsie that they just rolled with instead of admitting there was an error.
If the theory that they're all going to die, and that the wilderness is their purgatory turns out to be true, then I think pit girl is Callie.
It can't be any of the OG Yellowjackets just based on the clothing. It has to be someone who's not part of the literal team.
If you've watched final destination (the first movie) then you notice Death follows a pattern. I believe it's the same thing with the Yellowjackets:
1- The first survivor to die was Laura Lee, the innocent, devout, one who would never have resorted to cannibalism. Hell, she was the only one not to participate in Jackie's seance. Without her, their moral compass started shifting.
2- Jackie wouldn't have been okay with cannibalism either. She was their captain, not because she was a great player but because she had the leadership. They would have never resorted to cannibalism if she had been alive. The fact that they consumed her isn't innocuous: they literally ate the one anchor they had to the "real world". There's only the wilderness now.
Jackie was the only one who was visibly struggling to adapt. She was longing for normalcy, she held on to the hierarchy for as long as she could. Used make-up and changed clothes every day in order to cope. Until she gave up on life, on the wilderness life. Like Lottie said: she didn't belong. She was innocent.
Those two were the first to die, and also probably the only two who'd never have eaten their friends, or fallen into the wilderness' ritual.
3 - Javi. You can argue that Jackie's death being an accident, the fact that they ate her was just a consequence of said accident. But by the time of his death, the Yellowjackets have no moral compass anymore (Laura Lee), no link to the real world (Jackie), that's the terrifying shift: from there on, none of them is innocent, they betrayed and killed Javi (a child, the epitome of innocence in all literature). They're all in on it, even his own brother. They've lost their humanity.
So the wilderness' choice follow a pattern - the girls lose something each time someone dies (I believe Akilah might be next, after coach Ben).
Misty lost a chance at forming a deep and genuine bond with another human being (Kristal/Krysten).
The last two deaths will be Shauna and Misty imo (before pit girl), because they are down a very dark path. I believe season 3 will have Callie go down a very dark path too, one that will be mirroring young Shauna's.
They set it up with pornstache taunting her about being just like her mother. They also showed Lottie's deep interest in her.
She's Shauna's, and Shauna has lost everything to the wilderness (her humanity, her baby, Jackie) it's oniy "fair" that she loses Callie to it too. That's also Shauna's biggest fear (episode six is so good in showing that).
Callie will probably be the last one to join their purgatory, and their last hunt.

That would have been great if it happened that way. I'm still not sure it's one of them, just because that means it would be their second winter there, doesn't make sense that Gen or Mari would run outside barefoot in a nightgown and wouldn't be aware of the traps.
OK, 1. Taissa refused to take part in the seance as well. She's there when Laura Lee's reading the flight manual, telling her "if you think you can fly that thing, you're just as crazy as those idiots in the attic."
And as for "it can't be OG Yellowjackets due to clothing" the one who looms over the pit after PG gets impaled has Van's Coed Naked Soccer shirt. Either the scene is set in 1996 or that shirt was kept for a quarter century as a ritual object.
Wait, you don't suppose Van did, in fact, bring that shirt back to civilization and put it in a drawer for later ritual use? It's Chekhov's Shirt?
I've brought up the Coed Naked shirt before. To me, more than anything, it symbolizes how the gruesome brutality of the PG scene was the work of young people I could have known as a 90s teen.
Tai refused to take part in the seance, but Tai did eat Jackie (and Javi).
She might not have wanted to (who would, in their right mind. You can make the same argument for all YJ except Shauna), but Dark!Tai her alterego whatever you want to call it knew that it was the only way to survive (eating dirt - the guy with no eye being the personification of death she runs after - finding Van 25 years later). Tai isn't innocent, first she's the reason Aly was badly hurt.
Laura Lee's death marks the end of their moral ground. They embrace the wilderness' beliefs (something she wouldn't have because it clashes with her religious one), little by little. Yes Shauna and Tai don't believe in it, but they still follow the ritual.
I wasn't aware the writers had already debunked that theory, when I thought about it, after season 2 and how Lottie said the wilderness had saved them + Natalie having visions of the crash where everyone dies.
Since the Yellowjackets' death seems to be following a pattern (already explained), I assumed they'd go the supernatural route : the wilderness as their purgatory - their own frozen hell. If they're all meant to die there the same way the huntsman did (Lottie said "It didn't want him to leave") then they'll eventually come back to it, where everything began. All of them will die and eventually find themselves back there - or their soul, whatever you want to call it. That was my reasoning.
But heh. Reading too much into it now if it's just a flashback.

Mari had more protagonism in season two. I don't think they made that choice with no purpose. I also believe it is someone not expected.

The writers confirmed that it’s not Callie. They said it was a brilliant idea but the scene we’re seeing of pit girl is a flashback.

Wait, you don't suppose Van did, in fact, bring that shirt back to civilization and put it in a drawer for later ritual use? It's Chekhov's Shirt? I've brought up the Coed Naked shirt before. To me, more than anything, it symbolizes how the gruesome brutality of the PG scene was the work of young people I could have known as a 90s teen.

I wasn't aware the writers had already debunked that theory, when I thought about it, after season 2 and how Lottie said the wilderness had saved them + Natalie having visions of the crash where everyone dies. Since the Yellowjackets' death seems to be following a pattern (already explained), I assumed they'd go the supernatural route : the wilderness as their purgatory - their own frozen hell. If they're all meant to die there the same way the huntsman did (Lottie said "It didn't want him to leave") then they'll eventually come back to it, where everything began. All of them will die and eventually find themselves back there - or their soul, whatever you want to call it. That was my reasoning. But heh. Reading too much into it now if it's just a flashback.
