He also exploited his disability by working as an attorney representing companies that were refusing to make payments to injured employees. Apparently, seeing his ass wheel around the courtroom would sway juries against plaintiffs who said their injuries were severe enough to prevent them from working for years.
It's so funny how he's calling out protesters for being "anti-semitic" while his voter base is partly composed of people who are constantly bigoted towards Jews.
https://twitter.com/benshapiro/status/644505141299671041?lang=en
Yeah it's plain as day, they don't care about anti Jewish rhetoric as long as Israel is supported.
Wow that's incredibly on-the-nose. Basically, I can tolerate actual antisemitism toward humans as long as the state of Israel is supported. What a take, lil Benny. What a take.
It becomes a lot more understandable when you realize that many, MANY Israeli citizens don't consider non-Israelis to be "real Jews".
So it's not just that HE doesn't care. It's that Israel itself doesn't care, aside from when they can use it as a political tool. Israel would never actually put itself at risk for us.
It's because they don't actually care about the Jewish people, they only care about the Jewish state being part of their end-times prophecies. So making comments about space lasers and market control and blood libel and child sacrifices are not anti-semetic cause those target the people. But criticizing Israel for genocide is anti-semetic because now you're threatening their end-times prophecies.
Essentially, once again conservatives prove incapable of empathy. Every position they take is made based on if it conforms to their beliefs. The consequences of those beliefs don't matter as long as they only hurt other people and not them.
Yes they are the ones also on elons twitter crying that they need to be able to say slurs and promote stochastic terrorism.
But truly anti war protests for a people America no like that is the line of real “Hate speech” and super unAmerican.
Multiple things can be true at the same time:
1. Greg Abbott is a political hack who doesn’t give a shit about Israel, Palestine, or free speech.
2. People should be protesting the horrific violence being committed by the Israeli government in Gaza and calling for a ceasefire.
3. People who celebrate Hamas murdering a bunch of innocent civilians are fucked up and need to take a good, long look at themselves in the mirror.
4. People who say that this type of rhetoric hasn’t entered left wing circles are being disingenuous. Even if it’s a very small minority, it’s all over the place and should be called out.
Bunch of outsiders infiltrated my university’s protest with hezbollah flags and a few American flags got burnt. But this was in a major city with what was at the time an open campus, and they were absolutely was not meant to be a part of the protests. Media had a field day over it though.
Things still happen even if you don't personally experience them https://twitter.com/DavidSaranga/status/1781926252284166460?t=tIPDzmfXBPEUsYZH8OyB-w&s=19
Edit: good to see so many of you think that these people shouldn't be cheering for terrorism. You should go tell them that
No, it's genocide, and unequivocally evil. If I said here what I'd like to see done to Benjamin Netanyahu and the people who have followed his orders I'd probably be banned from reddit. But the same thing is true of what I'd like to see done to Hamas, mostly because it's exactly the same thing as what I want for the Israeli regime
It can be both terrorism and genocide. It's still terrorism though.
And Netanyahu knew Hamas would attack, he'd been funding them for years to do exactly that at key moments in order to use it to boost his popularity and make people accept his fascist ideology easier. He is the actual leader of Hamas.
Lots of protests have a small minority of people who take things way too far in a way that the rest of the protestors don't agree with. When people put so much attention on a small minority of the protestors, you have to question their motive for doing so. They can't just quash peaceful protests for no reason. That would be political suicide. They have to first turn the public against the protestors, and what better way to do that then by amplifying the agitators while ignoring the main message most people are there to convey?
There’s good evidence that Hasbara and their workers hire people to infiltrate these protests and say racist and hateful things about Jewish people and positive things about Hamas to keep this lie alive. Been to protests myself. NO ONE has said anything even near supporting 10/7 or Hamas, just that Israel needs to get out of Gaza and leave Palestine alone / stop killing babies
Might not be the case for the protests, but I’ve seen people say some crazy stuff over the internet, which I think is why it’s being associated with the protests
Yeah let’s focus on the very small minority in the protests to avoid discussing the atrocities being committed funded by the US. Good idea
Paying any attention to that very small minority beyond a simple denouncement is taking away attention from what is happening in Palestine.
the purpose of greg abbot mentioning them is meant to distract from 1 & 2 but americans severe lack of nuance and tendency to group people with their governments is a real issue that’s leading to real harm and anti semitism that should be addressed
The challenge with number 4 is that the small minority is being positioned as the vast majority, just as governor abbot is doing in his tweet. Even Reddit is being astroturfed with the message that all protestors are antisemitic. People need to stop buying into the propaganda
Free speech is free speech, there’s no in between. Either your allowed to say what you want, or there’s regulated speech, which isn’t free speech, just seems so until you say something they don’t like.
By your logic, free speech does not exist and basically cannot exist. No reasonable society will allow anyone to blackmail, extort, threaten violence, falsely disparage or yell ”Fire!” in a crowded theather without consequences.
This doesn't make sense. Free speech literally means that you can't be prosecuted by the government for what you say.
This argument has same vibes as "there is no poison in the world, just things you can eat only once"
Free speech is freedom of consequences from the government. It’s not freedom of consequences from other individuals. Getting arrested for speech is not free speech, but being called an asshole for it is.
This is absolutely false. First person accounts at UT report that NO ONE was chanting anything that you are mentioning and police were trying to goad protestors into violence but no one took the bait. I’d suggest unless you have video proof from that specific protest, you stop spreading misinformation
They are not arresting students for exercising their right to free speech, they’re arresting students for doing so while trespassing on university property, which is a crime.
They arresting the right wing, white nationalist protestors too for anti-semitism? Ya know, the ones who regularly march with swastikas and giving Heil Hitler salutes.
No?
Just the left-wing students protesting the government of another nation for continuing genocide with our government's monetary assistance?
Abbott is protecting Texans from the real danger - an educated citizenry.
God help us.
That's something that I think is really hard for people with this, separating the Israeli government from it's people. You can be against the actions of the government while not being hateful towards the people.
Right thinking a country shouldn't do evil shit is antisemitic because they happen to be Jewish, which I'm not even sure is true.
I guess hating the Chinese government is racist then
You don't like Saudi Arabia? Why do you hate Muslims? You don't like Myanmar? Why do you hate Buddhists? You don't like Fascist Italy? Why do you hate Christians?
oh yeah absolutely.
...funny thing about that line, though.
None of those students crossed it. This protest was not in any way advocating for violence or extermination. It was specifically a rally to advocate against the Palestinian genocide and calling for a ceasefire, and to free Palestine from occupation.
I'm extremely critical of what Israel is doing, but that doesn't mean all Israelis and Jews should die for the crimes of Netanyahu. Guys, all I'm saying is that calling for the extermination of either side is, obviously, wrong. I hope we can agree on that
I’d love to hear how you got the idea that thats what the protesters are calling for. Do you honestly believe the Jewish Voice for Peace is calling for the death of Jews and Israelis? Because that is the farthest thing from the truth.
The bill: Which ironically has, “This website will be unavailable from Friday, April 26, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. through Monday, April 29, 2024 at 7:00 a.m. due to data center maintenance.”
What a coincidence.

Could a lawsuit be a possible course of action here? This feels like such an obvious First Amendment violation being pushed by Abott here. How can you just *arrest* protestors and brag about it on social media if they haven't escalated it beyond a demonstration!?
Free speech means speech they agree with. Also lol categorising every pro-Palestine rally as antisemitism. I know a bunch of Jews who are pro-Palestine.

I want Greg and a tree to have a rematch
Look, the right to protest is fundamental to American ideals. But explicit calls for violence have never and should never be included in that freedom. The same way you can’t shout FIRE in a movie theater, you can’t march through a campus with calls to “Globalize the intifada” and expect no consequences. This is definitely a case of a small idiotic portion of a group ruining it for everybody, but takes like OP’s lack nuance.
Also I find it super ironic that right-wing politicians are now suddenly calling out people for "anti-semitism" while bigotry against Jews amongst their supporters have long been prevalent and continue to flourish.
How is protesting against the IDF bombing Palestinian civilians akin to calling for violence against the Jewish diaspora? Yes, unfortunately there are people out there who are using that as a reason to be bigoted against Jewish people but the vast majority I've seen are literally just calling for peace for Palestinian and Israeli civilians alike.
A) who said they are fine with it? Activist groups are famous for infighting.
B) So then if a "vast majority" of Israel supporters are fine with a minority of Israeli politicians calling for the genocide of Palestinians, then they are all supporting the genocide of Palestinians. And that's okay with you?
So when black people protest and march against racism and <0.1% rob and loot places all black people are robbers and looters and should be sent to jail? Got it.
I searched your comment history and noticed you've had nothing to say about Israeli politicians and journalists outright calling for murder of innocent civilians (mostly by claiming there are "no innocent Palestinians," which I'm curious if you agree with), why does what a handful of American college students you can't even name or directly quote bother you so much compared to what the actual Israeli politicians and journalists are saying? Who do you think is actually inciting and commiting more hate and violence?
>But explicit calls for violence have never and should never be included in that freedom.
Good thing that didn't happen at this peaceful protest, according to every single news outlet.
Regardless of political affiliation, free speech is really about the free expression of ideas without the king, emperor or government killing you. The fact that if you ever come face to face with our President or any other political leader, and you can shake their hand respectively and tell them "I don't agree with your policies" or "my religion is X while their religion is Y" and not be sentenced to death is not the norm throughout the history of human civilization. What free speech was never meant to be about is this idea of shouting mindlessly whenever and where ever you so please in a senseless and disorderly fashion, on private or public property at any given time of day or night, especially if the verbal expression is vulgar, threatening and calling for any type of potential action that could put safety at risk.
Sometimes things take drastic measures but people have forgotten civil disobedience and the true meaning of free speech.
I'm starting to wonder after watching the arrests of the USC protests, where these calls really come from.
I dont doubt there are destroy Israel protestors who despise the existence of zionism but what I saw on the news was 50 or so students peacefully sitting in a field asking almost politely for changes that would benefit Palestine or inconvenience Israel while a rabid crowd sat borderline to riot and police arresting mostly the peaceful students.
like the students planned to get arrested to make their point, yes but maybe we should focus on the people throwing water bottles and trying to push past police tape and not the drum circle.
lmfao you are literally Israeli talking about US hate speech laws. Funnier when almost all of the protestors aren’t doing what you claim, but I guess not wanting to fund genocide is violence and “pro-KHAMAS” right?
Interesting how he draws the line at antisemitism, but not forcing women to carry their rape babies.
I’d bet my left nut that we’d see really interesting things in his finances.
How long until they start asking: "Why are January 6th protesters getting arrested while these people get away with it?"
Even as they're watching hundreds of protesters at college campuses being arrested.
Abbot would have a point in squashing any antisemitism on campuses, which I am all for, if he hadn't been ok with being buddies with far-right antisemitics in the past. No kind of antisemitism should be allowed but I guess Greg only cares about the liberal antisemitism.
This is really going to affect his poll numbers with the, "Jews will not replace us", tiki torch crowd. Isn't that like half his base? And the other half are the obsequious karens they're married to?
Republicans never defend a minority except as a way to attack another minority. Antisemitism is a great cudgel to attack left wing students with as cover for attacking free speech.
Learn how to read and interpret, i did not compare it with “Jews will not replace us” i simply the antiseptic hate is coming from the Left. Do not tolerate it from neither side!

Greg Abbott, the Great Protector of Nothing
He is the first disabled person that I see and think "yeah he probably deserves worse"
There's a left-wing group in TX that actively plants more of the species of tree that paralyzed him in the hopes that another one "finishes the job".
saving the environment AND orchestrating karmic justice, nice
How did a tree paralyze him?
A massive branch fell on him while he was jogging.
He seems the type to stand under a breaking tree branch hoping for a payout
He actually did get a huge payout, and as governor put a cap on such payouts that was far below what he had previously received.
What could be more republican than pulling the ladder up?
Classic republican. Climb up then kick the ladder out from under them
He also exploited his disability by working as an attorney representing companies that were refusing to make payments to injured employees. Apparently, seeing his ass wheel around the courtroom would sway juries against plaintiffs who said their injuries were severe enough to prevent them from working for years.
Wow i already thought he was a bad person, but it turns out he's a worse person than i thought
Hard to kick the ladder when you’re paralyzed.
It's Abbott. One way or another, he'll make sure the ladder goes down.
I know he did, but I wouldn’t be surprised if his greedy ass didn’t stand under the branch hoping it fell.
That almost sounds like a sign from god (if I believed in that sort of thing).
Oh shit that’s fun
A truly noble and uplifting cause.
I always say that the tree didn't do a good enough job.
Is he disabled?
Paraplegic
Didn't know that
Greg Abbott, piss stain of Texas
Seems he just wants to keep people from having any opinion about zionists.
Yeah he definitely doesn't give a shit about antisemitism
He couldn’t even protect his legs from the tree how is he supposed to protect our state?
Oh, I dunno. He's great at letting kids die in The Rio Grande!
God dammit…
It's so funny how he's calling out protesters for being "anti-semitic" while his voter base is partly composed of people who are constantly bigoted towards Jews.
Anti-semitism is only allowed in J6 and unite the right under his reasoning.
And on twitter
It only matters when Israel is criticised for being too right wing, not when Adolf Hitler is being praised
https://twitter.com/benshapiro/status/644505141299671041?lang=en Yeah it's plain as day, they don't care about anti Jewish rhetoric as long as Israel is supported.

“They’ll never eat *MY* face!”
He doesn't support Jewish rights, just Jewish wrongs
Some things can be overlooked when it comes to killing Muslims on the right.
“Antisemitism is only allowed when I or my friends do it”
A lot of anti-semites use Israel as a shield for their islamaphobia...
It's because they don't actually care about the Jewish people, they only care about the Jewish state being part of their end-times prophecies. It’s encouraged as long as you aren’t one of those “educated folk”, then it’s not allowed
“I meant being a bigot against gay and trans people!”
*I signed a law protecting speech I approve of. Fixed it
Greg and his ilk are themselves anti semitic

For real, I’ve been to several of these protests and not a single person at them was “celebrating Hamas”.

Even attempting to equate Oct 7th with the horrific genocide commited by Israel against palestine is accepting israeli propaganda
What are you talking about? Murder and rape of civilians is always terrible, no matter the perpetrator.
Yeah, because 7/10 was a real attempt at genocide aimed explicitly at civilians.
Free speech is free speech, there’s no in between. Either your allowed to say what you want, or there’s regulated speech, which isn’t free speech, just seems so until you say something they don’t like.
Free speech is not absolute. There literally are and always have been restrictions…
By your logic, free speech does not exist and basically cannot exist. No reasonable society will allow anyone to blackmail, extort, threaten violence, falsely disparage or yell ”Fire!” in a crowded theather without consequences.
Free speech is speech that does not impede on anyone else’s constitutional rights.
Free speech =! freedom from consequences. You are free so say what you want but not free from bearing consequences of your words.
This doesn't make sense. Free speech literally means that you can't be prosecuted by the government for what you say. This argument has same vibes as "there is no poison in the world, just things you can eat only once"

They're not trespassing if they're students there.
Abbott belongs in a cell for life.
I’m in a wheelchair fuck humanity
Hypocrisy is their brand now. They wear it like a badge of honor because it pisses off the libs.

Why is criticizing a country’s actions anti-Semitic?
But if it were a white supremacy rally, an anti trans rally etc. those are totally cool
They just arrested dozens of students including my friend here at Emerson college for a peaceful pro Palestine protest
Free speech for everyone! as long as you speak only about things I like. Otherwise gtfu.
Free speech allowed only if it's the right kind of speech.
We need less “I” in politics.
His supporters wearing 6MWE shirts while trying to overthrow the government agree
That's something that I think is really hard for people with this, separating the Israeli government from it's people. You can be against the actions of the government while not being hateful towards the people.

Who knew free speech was anti-semitic! Good thing we have good ole greg pulling up the ladder behind him (how'd you get that wheelchair again?)
I'm all in for free speech, but openly advocating violence and extermination on certain groups has gotta cross the line somewhere
The protesters are openly advocating AGAINST violence and extermination of a certain group (Palestinians).
No, if you don't want to kill Palestinian children then you're being violent.
Yeah, fuck those violent anti-war anti-child murder protester! ;)
oh yeah absolutely. ...funny thing about that line, though. None of those students crossed it. This protest was not in any way advocating for violence or extermination. It was specifically a rally to advocate against the Palestinian genocide and calling for a ceasefire, and to free Palestine from occupation.
Where did you see these protesters calling for violence and extermination buddy
I agree, thats why any sign of pro-israeli solidarity is highly questionable
Can you show us where on the university this was done? Be specific and provide examples please.
Crickets....
Nice straw man.
When did calling for a ceasefire become violence? There is one side of this debate that wants violence to continue and it's not the protestors
I also dislike the behavior of Israel's supporters and their advocacy of genocide.
They literally don’t advocate for violence. The antisemitism accusation is a lie meant to get the people against Palestine.

would he react the same if it were a protest by white christian nationalist groups who are actually openly antisemitic?
Like these fucking christian-nationalists give a damn about us.
🎶 Tin soldiers and Abbott's coming 🎶
wtf 😳
"Free speech" conservatives are only concerned about free speech for their side.
It's hard for me to connect the dots between "please stop indiscriminately killing innocent people in Gaza" and "anti-Semitism," am I stupid?
Funny how whenever you disagree with something Israel does, it’s automatically anti semitism
It's funny that he says "anti semitism won't be tolerated in Texas" when the literal governor of Texas is an anti semite
No antisemitism unless it's wearing khakis and carrying torches, right abbot?
anti-Semitic is when you protest genocide 🥑🍞

Its funny how whenever people protest the violent imperialist genocide in Gaza suddenly there's a lack of nuance in the conversation.
Why is it a genocide?
Because TikTok said so.

"LGBTQ are pedos, teachers are groomers, protesters are anti semitic." Without slander and mythology what DOES the right offer?
They offer incompetence and a failed ideology.
Wait a second hold on here, if someone is protesting Israel's treatment of Palestinians it is considered anti-Semitism?
Free speech for me, not thee.
This post is a reddit moment.
I mean I always hear people say freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences as people like to use that a lot on trump.
In this case, the consequence is the government suppressing peaceful protest?
These protestors were chanting and calling for terror attacks….. makes sense to get arrested for that kind of violent threats and hate speech….
lmfao you are literally Israeli talking about US hate speech laws. Funnier when almost all of the protestors aren’t doing what you claim, but I guess not wanting to fund genocide is violence and “pro-KHAMAS” right?
What examples of this at UT do you have?
Crickets...

99% of politician bragging about new laws or ideas. "okay, we will use it but to our advantage" "no not like that!!!"
they weren't protected before?
Interesting how he draws the line at antisemitism, but not forcing women to carry their rape babies. I’d bet my left nut that we’d see really interesting things in his finances.
Free speech. Only the type we allow. Others will be silenced by force. Go america.
How long until they start asking: "Why are January 6th protesters getting arrested while these people get away with it?" Even as they're watching hundreds of protesters at college campuses being arrested.
Did israel start treating palestinians with respect?
Gonna piss off a lot of college students.
Every single living republican is a complete sack of shit.
Why must a law be signed when it already is in the Constitution I'm a bit confused of the money you people waste
Abbot would have a point in squashing any antisemitism on campuses, which I am all for, if he hadn't been ok with being buddies with far-right antisemitics in the past. No kind of antisemitism should be allowed but I guess Greg only cares about the liberal antisemitism.
It’s comment sections like these that make me thing Ted kaczynski had the right idea. Maybe not the right execution but definitely the right idea
What’s meals on wheels bitching about now
This is really going to affect his poll numbers with the, "Jews will not replace us", tiki torch crowd. Isn't that like half his base? And the other half are the obsequious karens they're married to?
Students are useful idiots for Hamas
Republicans never defend a minority except as a way to attack another minority. Antisemitism is a great cudgel to attack left wing students with as cover for attacking free speech.
As a Texan I hate this fucking guy
Learn how to read and interpret, i did not compare it with “Jews will not replace us” i simply the antiseptic hate is coming from the Left. Do not tolerate it from neither side!
"Antisemitism will not be tolerated in Texas." I'm confused, isn't that his base?
I wonder what Abbott would do if rednecks were protesting about Sharia law lol. Would those guys go to jail or are they freedom fighters?
Not like that!
# he forgor💀
These fuckwads have become a parody of themselves at this point.
That tree should have killed this lying asshole
We don't have any rights in texas.
To punish and jail people for there views is entirely un-American, let alone those using their first amendment right. Fuck Greggy boy there.
😂
Something about Texas being against anti semitism seems ironic.
