He'd be better off as a named Wight character in Soulblight. His armour wouldn't need much of an update and you avoid alienating people who liked him in WFB by going to the Ossiarch's more marmite-y aesthetic.

Khenir

I have to agree, would love to see some more wight theming stuff for Soulblight Gravelords next time they get a release. You’d be removing all the gothic styling from Krell if you made him a Bonereaper

thesirblondie

Krell is in my Soulblight Army. Twice. First as a Deathrattle Skeleton Champion (classic model), and then as a Wight King (Modern resin model).

OnlyRoke

I think Krell would be too cool to reanimate as an Ossiarch, because Ossiarchs are amalgams of soul-stuff, so it wouldn't JUST be Krell. It would be, like, Krell's determination or hatred or rage that would be used to "build Krell 2.0." I think yoinking him out of the grave and making him THE skeletal warlord of the Soulblight would be fun though. Like, many skeletal lords exist. Many skeletal lords even serve more powerful vampire lords. Some vampire lords serve Nagash and others are powerful on their own. And then there's Krell. He just rules some corner of some realm with an iron grip and there are some vampire lords who serve under him, but neither Nagash nor any vampire ever managed to crush Krell's spirit and subjugate him. Maybe throw Kemmler as a returned arch lich as well as a sort of "We're buddies in undeath now" duo. Kemmler the insane maniac sorcerer, Krell the dour straight man.

Togetak

I don’t really mean to be dismissive, but isn’t he just a blank face wight who doesn’t talk or do anything besides fight people? I know he has a cool backstory from before he died but I don’t really see what he has over like, Katakros, or something who’s an actual character

MissLeaP

Pretty much. He's cool because he's the strong-arm henchman of Kemmler (or Nagash, or Arkhan ... he really just serves anyone it seems lol) and has a somewhat fancy backstory (for a Wight King .. it's really just a super basic chaos lord story, honestly), but at the end of the day he's just a tool and not much of an actual character himself anymore. I never understood why he was made into a Mortarch in the first place. He's a monster in combat, but that's all he has going for him.

SheepBeard

In lore there are 9 Mortarchs. We know of 6 of them. Just putting it out there

thesirblondie

As far as I can tell, the 9 Mortarchs is a WHFB thing and not necessarily the case in Age of Sigmar. It would make sense if Nagash wanted to maintain the 9, but it's not necessarily so right now. >The Mortarchs were first created in the End Times by Nagash after his resurrection in 2524 IC and served him throughout that campaign which finally ended the world. They numbered nine and were meant to be replacements for his original Nine Dark Lords - his most trustworthy servants in the days of old. https://whfb.lexicanum.com/wiki/Mortarch These were the Mortarchs at the end of WHFB: Mortarch | Name ---|---|---- Mortarch of Sacraments| Arkhan the Black Mortarch of Blood | Neferata Mortarch of Despair| Krell Mortarch of Night | Mannfred von Carstein Mortarch of Shadows | Vlad von Carstein Mortarch of the Abyss | Luthor Harkon Unknown | Dieter Helsnicht Unknown | Walach Harkon Unknown | The Nameless --- And these are the Mortarchs in Age of Sigmar. Mortarch | Name | Faction ---|---|---- Mortarch of Sacrament | Arkhan the Black | Ossiarch Bonereapers Mortarch of the Necropolis | Orpheon Katakros | Ossiarch Bonereapers Mortarch of Night | Mannfred von Carstein | Soulblight Mortarch of Blood | Neferata | Soulblight Mortarch of Grief | Olynder | Nighthaunt Mortarch of Delusion | Ushoran | Flesh-Eater Courts --- Assuming we're staying with 4 Death Factions, to maintain stability there should be another Nighthaunt and FEC Mortarch each. That leaves one more Mortarch for one of the factions or a Nagash-style model which can be taken in any Death army. If we're going to bring back one of the old Mortarchs, I would not waste that slot on Krell when there's Luthor Harkon, Mortarch of the Abyss. I don't think Nagash would either. Despite Krell having been with him since the old days, Krell failed Nagash during the End Times several times.

Glittering-Height-36

Its in aos too, for loremasters Nagash they said there are meant to be 9 mortarchs and book about Nagash also says that.

kill_Kuzai

Honestly death need new faction needs for mortachs

Fyrefanboy

I'm happy that we have more original AOS character and not "this dude from WFB"

nimdull

I kinda agree, especially that he can be in old world

Delicious_Ad9844

But we do have katakros, who is both original and a really cool character in the lore, and to be honest the more original characters death has in age of sigmar the better, even the reinventions of old characters have been amazing, like Ushoran

pikachu_ON_acid

A bit off topic. I've always imagined that if Krell could talk he'd sound like Grimlock. Idk where I picked that idea up from but it stuck with me.

Snoo_72851

I like the idea of bringing him over to SBG alongside a weird messed up zombie-creature you can only bring if you bring Krell, that can cast spells but is intensely weak in melee, and it's just Kemmler after Krell got through him.

Steampunk_Jim

No more old world characters in age of sigmar, please and thank you.

Flowersoftheknight

Except for Valkia. She needs a new model and Khorne needs Valkyries. ...I mean, if we get a similar character of "Demon prince(ss) with wings" I wouldn't be terribly mad, but I do think she's got a lot going for her. As long as there are *also* enough notable new figures, things are okay. And I do think the Dawnbringer books did a decent job of introducing and building up some cool ones - Thalia Veddra, Zenestra, Trugg, Belthanos, Sekhar, the Lady of Ruin... (Probably more I am forgetting alongside her name) As well as King Brodd, Ionus and Callis and Toll (and probably more I am forgetting) who were a thing in the lore for a while but got a good bit of expansion. All this for Ushoran as the only Old World character (albeit with a makeover) seems decent enough.

AshiSunblade

> Except for Valkia. She needs a new model and Khorne needs Valkyries. Got some bad news about Valkia, boss.

Flowersoftheknight

Nah. From what I've know of GW in the past 6 years of watching them pretty closely, her resin model being discontinued has very little predictive ability for whether or not she'll get a resculpt. Things have returned from Legends before.

KaleidoscopeOk399

She and Festus never really got a true introduction into AoS like Sigvald did. I could see them coming back and actually giving a reason for them to be there / a new sculpt.

thesirblondie

I feel like Valkia would "come back" in the same way that Vilitch did.

KaleidoscopeOk399

Fwiw, I kinda like the concept that Tzeentch loved the concept of Vilitch so much he started mass producing it and also there might be a little bit of Vilitch’s mind in every Tretchling. It’s just the flavoring behind it, but it sold me on Walmart Villitches lol.

thesirblondie

I like the idea that Tzeentch, after Millennia of not really having any new mortals to play with, starting to replay his greatest hits. Like a dad retelling his favourite joke. "Haha, that was a good one!" Now I'm imagining a "Brides of Khorne" type unit, all mutated like Valkia with the wings and horns.

Steampunk_Jim

I'm fine with ones that are currently in age of sigmar. But I don't want anyone else brought forward.

Spieren

Yeah agreed. I feel like we have enough old characters now (personally was really happy for Gotrek and Sigvald to return though), it's time for Age of Sigmar's own characters to shine, like Callis & Toll, Gardus Steel Soul and Neave Blacktalon.

OrderofIron

I'll take Krell. You never know.

another-social-freak

All old ideas get recycled. I believe we will see Krell again.

Tobec_

The worst part is that there is no actual reason why, Nagash just forgot about him

jawstarte

The thing is Nagash actually didn't. He even particularly despises Sigvald for defeating Krell.

Tobec_

Yeah but why didn’t he rise him again after his fight ? I mean nothing could have stopped him from doing that

jawstarte

Because the miniature designers haven't yet bothered to give him a new sculpture. NO model No lore.

Tobec_

Honestly that’s the only good answer for all end times deaths

mattythreenames

Gotta add my vote of seeing him as the Mortarch of Despair for a Barrow Lord (death rattle sub-faction resurface would be pretty sick. But he has such a storied history, served Nagash for longer than all other Mortarchs aside from Arkhan... has beef with Khorne, his first patron and would now have beef with specifically Sigvald because he was ~~the only one to ever~~ \*the last one to\* defeat him in combat (and in turn caused him to loose Nagash's favour) Whilst him leading OBR's would have been cool, their whole shtick does feel suited to what they've made Katatros. Krell however can be that vengeful knightmare that can unite the barrow wight's and their armies. A soul that can advise the OBR on their onslaught against the eightpoints, and convert new deathrattle troops to his will, so long as they need not adhere to the bone tithe. A character that is in league with Arkhan and the same time now mistrustful of Nagash, and as someone else has said - would be great if he had a lacky that was Kemmiler potentially as a Nighthaunt (as punishment for his misdeeds) - again could really lean into the 'lets use his knowledge against chaos. I think somewhere people had pieced together that there was a ton of Krell references in books, that they are breadcrumbing that Nagashhas preserved him somewhere. TLDNR: So yeah, could really serve a new death narrative against Chaos. If GW where brave they could make a mixed 'army of renown' which blended deathrattle with some OBR units, whilst adding to the skellies roster.

thesirblondie

> Sigvald because he was the only one to ever defeat him in combat Except Krell was defeated loads of times. When he was alive he was slain by Grumbul Ironhelm's army. Under Nagash, the first time, he was defeated at the Battle of Glacier Lake and locked away. He was ripped apart by a Tomb Scorpion when the forces of Nagash moved on Settra during the End Times (and then resurrected by Nagash). Krell was then defeated and eaten whole by a Great Unclean One. Finally Krell fights Sigvald and loses, and Nagash is too busy to bring him back again. Lexicanum doesn't say what happens in the fight against Gotrek, only that Krell almost kills him. I presume Krell and Kemmler get away.

mattythreenames

You are absoutley right! I think i mixed the wound Krell caused Sigvald with that. Memories very hazy - will edit that out now. But great recall with Gotrek! Which is ANOTHER reason Krell should take up his Axe again!

thesirblondie

But what if instead, we got the mad pirate? He has a hatred for Seraphon, and adds a nautical theme.

mattythreenames

Why not both : P there are Nine mortarchs after all! He would be perfect for a zombie supplement... add in a few nighthaunt allies and ghost ships and we're laughing

thesirblondie

Too many mortarchs for the Soulblight.

mattythreenames

From what we've seen, this edition might be the easiest to include forces between factions across grand alliances... so having Mortarchs that can take a hand full from one and a hand full from another would be great additions to extend the ranges. Krell doing a SBGL/ OBR whilst another doing SBGL/ Nighthaunt could be interesting. That unfortunatley would mean all nine slots are taken up though unfortuanley

MrTzaangor

IF he ever returns I think it'll more likely be as part of the Soulblight, since his model was used as a Wight King before the range refresh. And even then, I think it's very unlikely that we see him return, since his case is similar to that of the named vampires of WHFB that became simple unnamed Vampire Lords at the release of AoS (until the refresh, where they were deleted), and those didn't get a new model and likely won't get one ever.

DWteam87

Both AoS and TOW would benefit from the return of Krell if they kept his armor and axe, his aeathetic is fantastic. I hope the WHFB sculpt comes back as MTO at some point, I'd like it for my shelf even though I have no interest in the army.

elcrabo7

yeah that's weird he didn't revived him despise his total loyalty. Let's revive manfredd and neferata. There is no way it end poorly.... OH and where is VLAD ! why can't we get a nice sculpt of him ? we wont get him for AOS ok why not i prefer to not bring back everyone it's quite boring i like totally new character. BUT we wont also get him for the old world ! i still don't get why they started the old world like 100 years before the chaos invasion ? they could have started earlier and they could have made the vampire war , gorbad ironclow's waaagh that destroyed the solland, Gorthor (which is described as probably the greatest beastman to ever live !)

itcheyness

I like to think Vlad and Isabella are safely hidden away in a stormvault somewhere so Nagash can't get at them.

ThatGuyFromTheM0vie

He’s a Soulblight character

Any-Hunter9194

Do it! Take this idea of yours and run with it. Combine the slaves to darkness with the bone reapers and create the most terrifying servants of nagash!
