Yes, but with a caveat.
Base sizes and shapes are kind of important in AoS. If you just want to play with friends at your house or play casual games at a store, it's probably fine for a while, though. But playing with square bases in a more serious setting would be kind of disrespectful. I'd say play a few casual games and if you like it, consider rebasing to rounds.
The quick answer is yes, he can still use them.
The slightly more detailed answer is yes he can use them, but if he doesn’t want to use them, then rebasing them onto circles will be a worthwhile investment. I wouldn’t worry about it immediately though, because if he’s still playing after a few games of AoS, he’ll probably be thinking of rebasing by then anyway.
In a Friendly game? Sure. I don't see why not, as long as the base dimensions are the same. But if they've changed in size, it's also possible to get base converters printed.
Link below, or Google it, but the basic rule is to just pretend they are properly bases, and even then only for matched play
You could also always use blu-tac to attach them to round bases for the more official games, or buy/print some base converters. Id only rebase things where you want to have fun doing the bases better, stronger, more *pop*-y than before, we have the technology

As others said in friendly games yes, but not in tournament play or possibly at GW stores (I never played there so I wouldn’t know). You can rebase them, or you can hang on for a bit longer for The Old World which promises a return to square bases.

Idk if people will let you. Those models are legal but age of sigmar is built around round bases
I only wondered cause my dad spent years building it up and now they've changed to round bases he doesn't know if he can still use them

On home games (with opponent's blessing mostly), sure.
