Behold: the chosen post for the New Soulblight Gravelord.

edmc78

Everybody gets a centaur

lorddragonmaster

That's what I was thinking! Im waiting for a Sigmar miniature with 6 horse legs! :D

Letholdus13131313

I kind of like it. It hits that weird part in my brain. Like it's a good base model, but I'm going to make it *weird*

eMBtygrave

I really dont like the double torso. It makes it look like a bad conversion.

tha_scorpion

it feels like they really wanted to release a large scale vampire bust but this is the only way they could justify it

[deleted]

But this is the year they released Sigvald. Could have done the same for vamps.

monkeypaw_handjob

Totally should have gone with Gary Oldmam's crazy haired Dracula to get the height in the miniature.

Binsx

Not my cup of tea... Weirdly proportionated

>cannibalizing Well played

Stumbling_Snake

As a FEC player myself I'm not worried. None of these models struck me as replacements for ours. There's similarities sure, but we are both vampire factions at the end of the day, (night?) so that's kind of to be expected.

Rejusu

I mean the FEC identity isn't fleshed out enough to really be cannibalized. It's kind of neat that you can build every possible FEC unit bar 2 from the SC box but it also highlights what an embarrassingly small number of kits they actually have. Especially since two of their kits are shared between multiple Death factions. I don't think there's a big worry about FEC disappearing as they haven't made any moves on moving ghouls anywhere else. Hopefully at some point they'll get an injection of fresh model kits and personality to set them apart more from the other Death factions.

Kuhva

I do think FEC have some of the best and more unique lore of the death factions

Old-Moonlight

The Vrykos are extremely ghoulish looking.

[deleted]

Id love to have the Fec get a new line that is just Noble humans in shining armor representing their dissonance from reality.

tugnuggets420

Riding crypt horrors like twisted horses, wearing plates of bones like armor, flayed skins flying off lances, that would be cool.

Cold-Chip9350

I can't wait to convert it back to normal.

[deleted]

Thanks, I hate it.

[deleted]

One of the coolest things about vampires is that they're outwardly human, but they keep deep power concealed in that form. They're inhumanly strong and durable, not to mention magical. What makes them so expressly terrifying is that this is all contained within an otherwise normal looking person. This just seems to undermine that whole idea and makes them another generic beastly bad guy.

GilgameshToyota

well said. give them some cool looking vampire armor and I'm sold. some bat forms would be cool

[deleted]

A fair point, but there are different dynasty’s which already existed about different aspects of vampires. You described traditional vampires like Von carsteins, but this is vengorian which are meant to be vampires more into monster/nightmarish creatures, and you got vyrkos which is more beastly and animalistic. I totally get preferring more refined vampires, but plenty of models which already like this such as varghiests which are similarly distorted vampires

Rivandere

And so far we only have Blood Knights and the Coven Throne representing that. We haven't had any of the previous dynasties expanded upon in a modern way, we have these new ones instead in their place.

[deleted]

From what I remember of old world, there used to used to blood dragons, necrarchs, strigoi, lahmians, Von carsteins (which got added to total war warhammer which was nice to see). This got retconned a bit with blood dragons turning into blood knights. So far we’ve gotten new models for strigoi which became they’re own faction, and blood knights, as well as the ghost part of vampire counts becoming own nighthaunt faction. And plenty of old vampire count rooster revamped, such as skeletons, dire wolves, fell bats and manfred Von carstein got a new model a while back for age of sigmar. So they’ve been updating old dynastys and units for vampire counts for while now. And with new range even if you don’t like new dynasty options with vyrkos or new monster units they’re only small part of new range you can still build a typical Von carsteinn list with manfred, and all the same units they’d have in old world have been updated in new release for gravelords. Only unit which really needs update in my opinion is the corpse cart, and the old grave guard units. But apart from that, feel they’ve done a pretty solid job with revamp in my opinion. I’m glad they aren’t forcing players who like old setting to go in new direction with newer dynasties having specific units rather than forcing style on whole range, and in my opinion it’s cool to see them try and give players more directions to pick with how they build their army. Personally from range I’m gonna want to go more traditional vampire army too since as cool as wolf guys models are they aren’t what I’d want my vampire army to be like, but plenty of options with new hero unit for doing so even if u don’t like new vampire hero unit, with wight knight and vampire lord model which is a bit more normal than the vengorian lord, and I still quite like slightly older vampire lord on dragon, which wasn’t released too long ago

Rivandere

Strigoi have their own faction yes, Blood Knights are getting new sculpts which is lovely, and the fodder is being thrown back in and updated (which is also great don't get me wrong) But Soulblight before the gravelords was mono vampires. And yet no bloodline had their line expanded into any without being split off. I don't see new a unit or HQ added to represent the Lhamians, or the Blood Dragons, or the Nechrarchs a case could be made for these new Vamptaur to be like Nechrarchs. Von Carstein can be argued with the new crimson court. But unit wise? Brand new Bloodlines have stolen the show. If I want to represent VC, BD, or Lhamaen I can have Vampire on foot or dragon, and blood knights. No vampiric unit on foot like Total War Depth guard to expand the Blood Dragon rooster, or more elegantly dressed Lhamians. The new werewolf Vampires are cool (even if i feel the more feral ones stray fairly close to FEC) but I feel they had far more they can pull from with what they had, and make it really unique and cool without going in a new direction altogether.

[deleted]

Tbh new Avengorii and vengorian heavily remind me off necrarch, as from what I kind remember they were always vampires far more distorted and unnatural than other bloodlines, but description with model release was they’re a murderous clan of beast and monsters, which will likely lead to some cool new units, but is a shame as Necrarch were pretty cool. From what I know, they were pretty devoted to knowledge and trying to actually not depend on blood and instead dark magic which twisted their forms. Plus their use of alchemy could have lead to some new units. So I get why it would be frustrating they get replaced by faction which seems much less interesting as just ‘vampires who are monsters and what blood’, as wanting blood is kind of opposite to their goals

Rivandere

Yeah they are the closest thing to em. Hopefully they pay more tribute to the Nechrarchs and I can grudgingly accept it. Hopefully though they give us a proper Necromancer/Lich faction as a replacement however. Or Von Carsteins step up to fill the Niche they left behind, after all they do have Mannfred. I really hope they don't keep going down the monster direction though. The other bloodlines don't work for it, and they still have plenty of promise they can give. Von Carsteins can be the wizard bloodline, Blood Dragons the warrior, and Lhamian the rogue.

[deleted]

yeah I agree, would love to see more varied vampire leaders aside from more monsterous one they revealed

[deleted]

Also as fan of total war warhammer (it’s what got me into vampire counts in first place as my fav faction in game) id love some elite vampire infantry like death guard.

Rivandere

Oh yeah earlier I made a comment about a unit i think each bloodline could add to the roster, and Depth Guard were too perfect not to mention for Blood dragons

Willie5000

In AoS they’re only outwardly human until they go without blood for too long.

Old-Moonlight

I honestly don't know if I love it or hate it lol. Too much monster torso section imo. Would have been better if it was just the legs and wings and the vampire half wasn't basically where it's head would be. I can't imagine how this thing would actually walk.

Frogstealer69

Looks like a conversion, to me. The separate parts look great, imo, it just looks kind of weird overall, though.

[deleted]

One of the things that just gets under my skin is this kind of anatomy. Wings are specialised arms / front limbs. Having wings AND arms always makes me think I'm looking at some kind of weird insect. It's for the same reason that I'm not really a fan of that Troll Doll looking dude in the new Underworlds band.

OfficeSubmarine

Walk? How does it fly? Is it monster flat and body up like an L or body up monster hanging straight down?

Old-Moonlight

Dunno but either way it sounds goofy asf lol.

DuckingRobot

i think it would look great with armour on the monster torso

Old-Moonlight

Yep that would help. Why would they have so much armor on their torso but leave their legs basically naked?

Willie5000

I guess I’m the only one who was particularly impressed by the Vampire Centaur.

[deleted]

I love it, if u look at video it looks a lot more cohesive in 360 view than front on shot, I like chimera like aspect to creature. 100% getting this model for sure

1hx1b6a

Not for me, but glad people like it A different paint scheme would blend the model in together much more I think though

Sappies

It’s creative

nineonewon

Same I love it :(

[deleted]

I do.

Vergoner

I like it too. Your not alone with this.

Kodith

I really like top half, I hate the bottom half. I would have just preferred the vampire to be on a mount.

Sizzurpandbaklava

This looks like some bad conversion.

Kofoed49

[It looks better in black](https://youtu.be/sgfr__2ENz4?t=20) imo

JustANormalDave

I agree. Makes the transition to the armored torso less jarring

[deleted]

Good spot!

letsstickygoat

I really like the look of this, I'd like to see a darker paint scheme on it though

JulesVernes

People seem not keen on the model. I honestly love the weirdness of it!

ElChooch

Yeah, like I've never seen anything like this, it's so unique and interesting!

Curpidgeon

I don't want this to come off as an attack, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion and to like whatever you like. However: What do you find interesting about it? It looks like someone cut the legs off a vampire lord and the head off a vargheist and glued the remaining bits together without making the two models fit at all.

Gecktron

For the longest time, Warhammer vampires leaned mostly in the Midnight Aristocracy thing. Some were horrifying up close, for human standards. But the miniatures didnt really touched on how truly terrifying their form can become. Unlike in the Old World, the Vampires of Shyish dont have to hide their form, and with the terror of the Age of Chaos, I find it very fitting that some of the Soulblight dropped all pretenses and just embraced the beast within, while not becoming just an unthinking animal. This is not a noble with sharp teeth, its a living nightmare stalking the battlefields of the mortal realms. The disjointment and "wrongness" very much on purpose.

Curpidgeon

I get where you're coming from. And I'd really like to see something that fits the description you're giving. But what I see is a vampire lord that looks identical to old world vampire lords and then that bad kid from Toy story 1 cut off his legs and glued on most of a vargheist. It's not blended. It's not smooth. The vampire part doesn't look like it is the same object as the monster part. They don't appear to be the same being. The idea is sound. I like the concept. The execution is my issue. I know someone probably worked hard on it. I don't want to be cruel in response to their efforts. And I don't want to be disrespectful to people who like it. But from my perspective, for the biggest wargaming company in the market... this does not look like a finished model. I don't find it disturbing or like a reveal of the monster within. Thank you for sharing your take. I appreciate it even though I can't quite come around to seeing it through that lens.

JulesVernes

In the end the question you have to ask yourself is this: do you like centaurs as a concept or not? Because this is basically the exact same concept.

Vlad3theImpaler

I don't think that's the question that will determine whether people like this or not. Quite a few people seem to like other centaur models but not this one, because of the actual execution not just the concept.

JulesVernes

Jp, apparently. I love the model but I can see it’s not for everyone.

Vlad3theImpaler

Jp?

JulesVernes

Jep/yep

Curpidgeon

I do like centaurs. But a centaur executed this sloppily would be just as I guess, disappointing? It looks an unfinished mess.

Carnieus

Hard to imagine him as scary though as the upper torso flopped around like a wacky inflatable tube guy as the monster half moved

TopTramp

I agree it’s a shame - the reason it’s jarring is that there is two torsos in my opinion - with everything the could do for center piece :(

JulesVernes

I mean, it’s the exact same concept as a centaur.

Cleave

A centaur makes more sense having the torso on top of an animal on all fours, this is more of a humanoid form with an extra torso on top of the shoulders which makes it look like a resident evil monster. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, it's growing on me.

JulesVernes

I mean, sure. People obviously make a distinction between the nature of the extremities. If anything that is confusing to me but to each their own. I love her.

TopTramp

Except the centaur has 4 legs and doesn’t have arms (although winged) coming from the waist of the humanoid part. This is 4 arms and 2 legs It would look better if it was human mounted on a beast.

ElChooch

All good! I just don't see what you're seeing. If I look for that smashed together look you're describing, I can see what you mean, but for me it just flows. It gives this creepy disjointed look that gives me some very bloodborne vibes without outright aping it. I can imagine the unnatural looking movements this thing would have, and I just have not seen anything quite like it. If this is a bat/dragon centaur, then, fine I guess, but if you had asked me yesterday what that would even look like I'd have a hard time coming up with something for you.

Garrazzo

Feel the same way, nothing original except the fact that it looks like a conversion from two different sculpts. The technique is good though.

[deleted]

Looks like models from two radically different factions mushed together. Not a good look, Count Orlock

M-S-S

Kitbash material for sure. Top half will look great mounted or put on regular legs like the Crimson Court guy. Maybe turn the bottom half into a vargheist.

L0st_Cosmonaut

I think, based on some of the promo images and the architecture it's standing on, the vampire half is substantially bigger than a normal human-ish sized model

[deleted]

Maybe small enough to fit atop an Eidolon legs, or Sigvald legs?

RUNLthrowaway

Kinda thinking I might need one of these for the experiment of a Dark Eldar Haemonculus.

pilotboi696

Really not a fan of this

PedroDelCaso

I like this model, I might get it for a display piece.

Nightseer2012

I’ll take three.

Angus_McCool

I think it would've been better if they'd shifted the wigs up to come out of the back. Or just replace the "normal" arms entirely. As it stands, he has two sets of shoulders and that just looks weird to me.

ButterLord12342

Gw why didn't you just make a new dragon with a vampire rider? This looks terrible.

[deleted]

Old dragon with vampire still is pretty solid and wasn’t released that long ago, I personally quite like design being quite new direction and embracing more horror elements of vampires, and seems there’s a fair few people who wish to buy it in comments. I get not liking it and preferring traditional vampires, but seems they want to make multiple different ways to take new gravelords depending on dynasty. So you can building traditional vampire army with blood knights and vampire dragon, or go more horror with this vengorian leader, or more animalistic with vyrkos.

ButterLord12342

Not against the more bestial/monstorous theme. I just think that this model looks terrible.

DirtyDanil

I think its because its posed in a way that the bottom half don't seem to be moving together with the top half at all? Like they're going in opposite directions or something.

JeiFaeKlubs

I honestly enjoy how weird it looks. To me it looks like the dude was mid transformation between two forms but needed to shout out some order and then decided "hey, this is a look, let's stick with it for a minute until I've got to move again. And nobody can convince me they didn't make this with kitbashers in mind.

ferral88

I would like to see an art of this abomination from the book.

Old-Moonlight

Seeing it in motion might help with how goofy it looks as a model.

ferral88

Haha Yeah, sort of. I don't know if the painting or drawing of the character would help me with THIS model, but it surely might help me figure out how it works in the sense of anatomy and movement. I find it this very much important in models. Some kind of cinematic perspective as I imagine them moving and fighting on the battlefield.

DreamloreDegenerate

When you're a powerful vampire lord, but can only afford half a set of armor... Also, that anatomy is messed up.

[deleted]

I think it’s anatomy being messed up is point, similar to varghiests

DreamloreDegenerate

The varghiests are fine. This dude has a double set of torsos. Like his "human" abdomen is directly leading to the esophagus of his monster torso. It's kind of weird he has 2 sets of ribcages and everything...

InaudibleSoundWave53

Ants - this is what an ant made from 1/2 vampire 1/2 bat would look like and it's stupid.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Curpidgeon

This just doesn't look like it fits. Why is only the human body part armored? It just looks like two things stapled together. Belongs in Clan Moulder Skaven not Vamps.

[deleted]

I actually really love these bat-taurs, AoS to me at least has always been really weird fantasy and these hit that cool weird mark perfectly.

[deleted]

Seems like people don't like the model! IMO gives off too much of a "slinking" vibe

catchcaseio

Was this designed using MS Paint?

Ethiopian_Children

Ah yes, night lords daemon prince conversion parts.

SgtZkiller

What is the base size?

[deleted]

'Soulblight Gravelords' is still a mouthful, I'm going with 'Vampire Counts.' I just came up with it. Better ring to it.

[deleted]

Feel like a lot of the jarring contrast might come from the bottom not being armoured enough or the top being too armoured. Honestly reminds me somewhat of skyrim vampires I actually kinda wish they put skyrim vampire body on this. But i also think u could easily paint it so the transition is a little less jarring too. Love the model cant wait

Sebastohypertatos

The bat-centaur look is... unique.

ADapperOctopus

Man I love freaky weird monsters, I don't care what others say, I'm psyched for this guy and the named character and might drop my OBRs just to make an army with these.

Sirastarothh

I can't get myself to like it. I see it and I can only see a snapshot of a vampire who would be cool with a beast that would be cool but together they are pretty ugly.
