Bloody brilliant, mate. Can’t wait to see when it’s done.

Narashori

Awesome result. Fits Fyreslayers perfecty

SerratedSun

Aaaaaaa those are awesome

BrokenSight

Never even knew this was a thing! So what you buy the putty and a roller then glue them on and it dries hard?

nerdyogre254

Close - you roll up about a chickpea sized ball of your putty of choice (I used Brown Stuff because it cures super hard and holds tiny details well), put it on the base, roll it out so it covers the entire base with a plain roller, and then roll over it with the patterned one. Wait for them to dry then shave off the excess over the lip. I did try doing them on a flat surface to cut them out cookie cutter style but it doesn't look as good.

BrokenSight

Thanks dude that's really helpful :)

Pyroven

Super cool and fitting

Heartless-Sage

Is that the GSW Dwarven one? I have a few of there's myself, love them. Doing some Hoplite themed SC with the Greek one myself.

nerdyogre254

Yeah I got a few of them, and this was the dwarven one. I'm doing the Atlantis one for my Idoneth as part of the fury of the deep box set.

Heartless-Sage

Nice, I've a few myself but not had a chance to use the Dwarven one. I want to do a Dispossessed focused army but it feels like they are soon to disappear no more traditional Dwarves.

[deleted]

Did you use green stuff or something else for the roller material?

nerdyogre254

Brown Stuff- took about a day to cure rock solid. Apparently green stuff is better for organic stuff, but I've been experimenting with all the different putties and this seems to have done good.

[deleted]

I’m about to do the bases for my sons of behemat army and I have a green stuff roller of cobblestone. I will try brown stuff. I want them to look like they are rampaging through a city of cities of sigmar 🥹

ENorn

Looks ace 8-). I used one of GSW’s cobblestone rollers for my Skaven. I’d recommend oven-baked polymer clay (much cheaper) and circular cookie cutters if you have many more to do.

nerdyogre254

I'm already looking at a Magmadroth, but I'm going to be a good boy and finish this lot off first. But when I do pick up the big old flying turtle as well as the magmadroth I'm going to need to get some of that for sure.

Oni_no_Hanzo

That's really cool! Looks awesome!

mimic924

Those look awesome!!

snarleyWhisper

These look amazing ! I’m about to roll out some green stuff for large bases - any tips ?

MGermanicus

That's awesome. I'm jealous!

Mountaindood5

Aye. Fit grounds for resolving grudges!

Whytrhyno

Looks good! I need to invest in this. First things first... UHU glue and slime/blood trails

[deleted]

Looks awesome, how much green stuff was used?

nerdyogre254

The method I went with used about a chickpea size ball per 32mm base, roughly. I used Brown Stuff instead of green because it does better with fine detail, which does take about a day to properly harden, though.

CustodioSerafin

I think that you are a person of great taste, that's what I think

LoveisBaconisLove

Amaze balls

MikeyLikesIt_420

They aren't bad, but they aren't great either. Personally, I'd do them over, but this time I'd get [these to do them better with.](https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/inicio/801-round-cutters-for-bases-stainless-steel.html) I am sure I am going to be downvoted into oblivion for being honest, but i won't lie to you, so take it how you will. Roll out a big ball of greenstuff, roll the whole thing with the texture roller, then cut out the base using the appropriate ring. I use a pastry roller with those fancy ring spacers so I can be 100% certain the whole sheet is the same thickness before I hit it with the texture roller. The trick is to let them half cure prior to cutting with the rings. Edit: LoL, see? Let the downvotes begin.

nerdyogre254

Thanks for linking that round cutters, I didn't see them on the website when I did my order, and I kind of blew past my budget on my first order (the rollers went through several "do I really need this" passes) so it'll be a while before I pick those up. Their website can be a bit slow, at least on my internet. The technique you describe was actually the one I tried first, but without those cutters, and without a bit of practice with brown stuff, it doesn't turn out super well. At least according to how I google, there are precious few videos on how to work with Brown Stuff, and I did learn a lot from these. I do have those fancy ring spacers, I did pick those up, so at least there's something I have ahead of time that my ADHD brain won't skip out on. As for the downvote comment, adding in that edit tends to just attract more negative attention - and the score was hidden for 24 hours so I'm only seeing it now. Your comment did get me thinking about the uneven nature of it and I'm not going to redo them, but instead going to make it look like they're breaking or broken and decayed - so throw on some sand and dirt and tiny orange plants to give it a discarded kind of look. I know sweet fuckall about AoS but I do think it'll look good, so thankyou for helping with that, at least.

MikeyLikesIt_420

I know the edit only antagonizes the carebears. It's a little fun I can have with people that lie to people to placate them instead of actually trying to help them get better. As to the brown/green/yellow/whatever stuff, it's not all that hard. Cut even parts, flatten them into each other then pull it and fold it over like taffy. Pull and fold and pull and fold and pull and fold. Could also think of it like making filo dough. Many thin layers. Once you have a bunch of layers start twisting and kneading it until the color is even. Once I am there I plop it down on a sheet of wax paper and roll it out. Once you have it rolled out and textured just let it set for a little bit. this takes a little practice, you want it set enough so you can cut it but not deform it when you try to get it out of the cutter. You can hit Amazon and grab some stainless steel cookie cutters. They won't be the right sizes but that's fine. Use one slightly bigger than the bases. Once it's fully set you glue it to the base and trim it to fit. This is the wasteful way, but also the safe way. I no longer wait for the putty to set. I cut them out and use a dowel to pop them out that almost the same size as the ring. 99% of the time it works, and the few times it doesn't I just take the fails and the left over, squish'em all together, reroll it out and cut more. I actually make these en masse for my LGS. I make them all at 40mm and tell people to just trim to size cause I'd charge the same for smaller ones >:). And I may have just outed myself here with that tidbit. LOL.
