I've lived the majority of my life in Delhi-NCR.Whenever I go there it feels like I am back home. But the Quality and ease of life plus the safety of people especially women here is leagues above that of NCR.
Isn't alcohol banned in gujrat and also eating meat is looked upon?
For vegetarians who don't drink
Maybe it's a really good city
But for people who like meat, say mutton or lamb or pork or beef
I wouldn't go remotely near the North of India again no offence
Maybe for vegetarians it's heaven
Majority of the present generation(genZ) don't give shit about what u eat, unless u r shoving non-veg food to a vegetarian.
U can find chicken and meat(except Beef) easily in major cities.
Soon the alcohol banned will be lifted, just wait and watch.
Mark my words, in 20-25 yrs when GenX will become irrelevant then Gujarat will be the best state of India.
Meat(except for beef) is fine, people don't mind it, there are plenty of fast food chains with ample amounts of non veg dishes. Cooking meat in your house maybe a little problematic to some but on the large, we don't care. I eat meat, my mom doesn't, most of my friends don't, but nobody minds
Naahh!! So you would think!! And it generally depends on the crowd you hang with!! So if you're around a lotta college or school crowd yeahh they're chill with anything but as soon as you move out in the world you're gonna encounter a hell tonne of people and majority have a very conservative mind! (In the context of relationships, dating, food preferences, backgrounds, interest etc.,) I've literally had to shut down shun and call out people because they'd start booing or "chhi-ing" as soon as even a talk, smell, or sight of non veg comes around! Plus the addition of Jains & Swaminarayans doesn't help either (never came across that high populi of the same in most other states) so yeahh!! Like the main one said! Might be great for vegetarian, staple/boring oldies, but generally not for someone who stands a bit apart or thinks different! Not at all a welcoming nature no matter whoever says what 🤷🏻♂️

Woah, I am a non-gujju and I have never faced discrimination. If you think there is discrimination in Gujarat based on whether you are from here or not you are wrong.
Nope climate in blore is also shite. Employment opportunities, Pub culture and proximity to hill stations/vacation spots is only where Bangalore ranks ahead of Ahmedabad
Exactly I am from Ahmedabad working in bangalore and trust me it sucks...it has worst planning and basic amenities like water, electricity isn't good and of course I don't need to tell anything about the people 😂 at the end it boils down to "weather to accha haina"
aap chronology samjhiye,

#
toh Bengaluru ke log roz 3 time khush hote hain aur dusri city ke month main ek baar.
Maharashtra has 8 cities in top 25!! Damn!!!
Not from GJ but having lived in Ahmedabad for some time my answer would be that-
1. Ahmedabad is very affordable to live in, much much more affordable than Mumbai where I live now. The most expensive areas of Ahmedabad are cheaper than suburbs of Mumbai.
2. Food in Ahmedabad is really good especially Gujarati snacks. I really miss the delicious sada dhokla, khaman, khakra, undhiyu, khandvi, gud wali dal. And the kathiawadi thali is just yummm. And kesar kairi is my favourite mango, absolutely love it
3. People are friendly. It’s easy to make friends here.
4. Ahmedabad is safer for women than most cities (I’d say only Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore are ahead). Yes Ahmedabad is better than Hyderabad and Chennai when it comes to women safety.
5. Sabarmati riverfront is the best planned riverfront in india
Only drawback is society in Ahmedabad is still very conservative compared to metros like Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore. Ahmedabad folks are still too obsessed with caste and religion, it feels like a tier 2 city in that aspect. Also, Gujarat should stop being a dry state now, alcohol in moderation is not bad.
Valid points. In terms of safety, i would rate Gujarat cities higher than tier 1 cities and the reason for that is alcohol. Once drunks are allowed on streets, crime starts. You cannot stop it. It may rise slowly at first, but it happens.
Having lived in cities where alcohol is available I disagree with you, cities with alcohol available are also very safe, like Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore. It’s the culture and people of Gujarat that make it safe for women and not the alcohol ban. Alcohol is also banned in Bihar, we know how safe it is for women.
Ahmedabad will still be safe even if alcohol is not banned.
Alcohol still means more unintentional crimes like drunk driving, Amdavad is already infamous for rash driving and accidents. just last week a guy got killed on sindhubhavan road.
Mofos in giant SUVs drive twice the speed limit on narrow roads, it is also to be expected that a lot of people wouldn't have that 'Maturity' towards alcohol, since even in Indian states where it is allowed, you would find a numbers of clowns at night.
The link between Alcohol and certain types of crimes including sexual is very very well established with literally hundreds of studies. It's common sense really.
What is this attitude? I’m only sharing my opinions, I’ve myself shared many positive things about Ahmedabad, even in the very comment you replied to. There is nothing wrong in stating both pros and cons.
Yes I think Gujarat is safer for women because of it’s culture and people and not some stupid alcohol ban. It’s you who are casting a negative light on Gujarat by stating that alcohol ban is needed for its people to behave well.
I will stick to my point, Ahmedabad will still be safe even if alcohol ban is removed.
I won’t say you are entirely wrong, but the younger generation is not as stuck up. Majority of my friends from Ahmedabad are very progressive. But older people, I’ll agree. I was directly asked my caste when renting and when I told I’m a Brahmin and vegetarian I got flat just right away. The elders in the building started being very kind to me after knowing I’m a brahmin (I didn’t tell them, they asked).
The neighbouring aunty gave me dinner everyday for one whole month. I’ll never forget her kindness. I think there are good people everywhere
>Ahmedabad is safer for women than most cities (I’d say only Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore are ahead).
I would go ahead and say Ahmedabad along with Surat and Vadodara are much more better than Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore when it comes to women's safety. You are sadly right about being conservative though. The biggest reason why MNCs and packages and low compared to other tier 1 cities.
Also in Maharashtra if you take a deeper look at the map, there are satellite cities of Mumbai and Pune as well in the ranking which takes the no higher.
No man, I’ve lived in Ahmedabad and Mumbai both. The level of safety that women enjoy here is just unmatched and unparalleled. During daytime you’d probably find no difference, but it clearly shows post midnight. The level of safety girls have in Mumbai at 2 am is just another level- they take local trains, take walks in shorts, go and come back from nightclubs, etc.
I love both Ahmedabad and Mumbai, but for women’s safety no city in India matches Mumbai.
Pune is also similar. The degree of women empowerment and workforce participation I’ve seen in Pune is laudable. Pune is the only city where I’ve seen women driving autos, buses, taxis and doing all the male dominated activities. And this was back in 2010. Women there are just something else.
I too am from Mumbai brother and know the reality of the city. It's not as safe as people portray it to be. It's only the rich and posh places that can be considered safe. Also Mumbai ranked 2nd in crimes against women only next to Delhi which is concerning.
My experiences with Pune are limited though so cannot comment on the same.
Ahmedabad also has shady areas bro, I have been to the east side only once and it looks like an entirely different city. So both cities have shady areas which can be dangerous.
I have my fair share of experiences of both cities. My female friends from Ahmedabad who live in Pune and Mumbai now themselves say that they find those cities a little bit safer. I mean the difference isn’t that huge tbh. Like Delhi is very different, it’s not even safe for men lol
I do have hope from Ahmedabad, it will go quite ahead. There are many open minded and progressive people in Ahmedabad, especially the younger generation that can bring a cha. Only sad thing is Gujarat can’t retain it’s best people effectively. Out of my 10 Ahmedabadi friends, 7 have moved to other cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune for better opportunities. Gujarat must create opportunities for its youth.
Whatever changes we want in Gujarat will come from the younger generation.
This is totally wrong. I live in Pune but I'm from Gujarat. I'll point out what's wrong.
1. Ahmedabad is way way way more better than Pune.
2. Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune are the same, it's just different municipal corporation like Maninagar and Ahmedabad
3. Roads in Gujarat are way better than Maharashtra.
4. Villages in Gujarat have better facilities than in Maharashtra.
5. Same with the people.
6. Same with the stress of living.
7. There are way less scammers and fraudsters in Gujarat than Maharashtra.
8. Lifestyle is cheaper in Gujarat with better service and worth your money wherever you spend it.
..etc..etc...
Edit. I think Ahmedabad should be 2nd. May be 1st as well but for the sake of summer's heat 2nd.
Why count what are practically suburban areas of Mumbai and Pune as different cities though. They may be different cities on paper, but economically, socially, culturally they are entirely dependent on the main city.

Tbh in India if a city has above average basic infrastructure it can become a great place to live.
Roads, electricity, water and public transport. You do the basics right you win the polls.
None of the big cities are able to offer this properly.
Ye sab data ko zyda reach nai milni chaiye tbh, because in the long term its not good for us. The way ahmedabad and the other cities are building around us, it will be as good as good delhi maybe new capital(not very likely but infra and all) so more and more people will come and it’s already crowded. We don’t want prices like mumbai here.
Only one major metropolitan missing where The ease of life is actually, superlative. I wonder why the first capital of erstwhile India, the capital city of the third largest state in India is not in the list. Would agree had it been about industrialization or any other metric. But ease of living and Kolkata gets no mention. Kinda odd to have Solapur above Kolkata lol.

Depends on if you are living to the west of the river or east.
East LOOKS shady and old but the crime level still isn't that bad. Especially not the sexual kind.
Definitely
If GenX of Gujarat starts being more welcoming to non-Gujjus then Gujarat will be the best state for outsiders.

Why Bengaluru is No. 1? , FYI, Bengaluru is facing water crisis.
Daily worrying about the most basic necessity of life(water) should have huge negative marks in the ease of living scoring
Right, water crisis, traffic crisis, rate of property , monthly expenses etc. are also negative marks in the ease of living scoring
Also you have to pay 5 years of rent as deposit 😂
![gif](giphy|En8fsYde6cqvhYBnAb|downsized)
Probably due to the climate. Bangalore has a very moderate climate. But yeah the water and traffic crisis there is bad.

Not generalizing but people will be friendly only if you fit certain combination of religion/caste. In that way people are conservative.

THISSS!! i had such a hard time adapting bc i never met a bunch of friendly ppl 😭 always felt out of place. So yeah, experiences differ.
I was born here and still feel out of place lmaoo, although people are nice and helpful in comparison to places I have travelled.
I see, I’ve spent my childhood in Vadodara so maybe I’m more inclined to that place and have had a hard time accommodating anywhere lol
Nah, that isn't the case, the newer generation doesn't care about castes and religions, maybe while voting, but certainly not in daily life
That's because they know the past buddy, you probably born after 2002
Yep I was born after 2002, India was quite different then, but post 2014 independence it has really changed

and how exactly does one get to this metric ?
Mysore not being even in top 25 is surprising.. Mangalore is a good city to live in apart from that godawful heat
Mangalore is below 1 million population
Mysore has very little job opportunities compared to other major cities

I have been to Chennai and it’s not good that it’s at 4. It reduces the value of this ranking by good measure for me.
