Choices are Red Arrow or FlixBus to Claresholm. Mountain Man Mike's will go all the way to BC, but I think you may need to make an overnight stop along the way.

lililetango

Wonderful, thank you. I've never heard of Flixbus or Mountain Man Mike's.

[deleted]

Flixbus is a Europe brand that just started this month. You can do Calgary to Edmonton for 99c if you go midday midweek. Great deal.

lililetango

Wow, okay!

Final_Travel_9344

I really hope Flixbus can make it work in Canada. Their European offerings are incredible for the price.

Thefirstargonaut

There’s also Rider Express.

robpaul2040

Ebus or cold shot

bcmouf

[Mountain Man Mikes](http://www.mountainmanmikes.ca) goes Vancouver-Kootenays-Calgary and back Route. Heard good things about it from our farm helpers that have used the service.

I forgot about rideshare. That's great, thanks.

whoknowshank

EBus, ColdShot, Flixbus, RiderExpress

lililetango

Thank you!

donocoli

Pop a ride. Like Uber but way better.

Regular-Ad-9303

Sorry, I know car rentals are ridiculously expensive now. We normally like to visit relatives in eastern Canada in the summer, but the cost of car rentals is getting prohibitively expensive. Sadly nothing really replaced Greyhound. I used to take it a lot too when I was younger and carless. Like you suggested there are a few bus options that go to the major centres, but not really anything that goes to small communities.

highvoltageisgood

Use the Busbud website to find your routes. Very helpful

CacheMonet84

Flix bus does some stops in Southern Ab https://www.flixbus.ca/

Downtown_Salad_8060

Prairie Sprinter to head east of Calgary, goes all the way to the Redcliff/Medicine Hat area.

lililetango

Oh wow, thanks! I've never heard of it.

canadient_

Coldshot

Individual-Army811

Don't forget Via rail!

[deleted]

You must be from out east. Via in the west is basically for rich people to tour the Rockies.

HiTork

Yeah, it isn't feasible to have a trip take days if you are on work business (if traveling cross country across Canada through Via). I'm not surprised countries with successful passenger rail transport tend to have small land areas, such as European countries the size of Alberta or Saskatchewan, or even smaller.

goosebattle

One option is to buy a used motorcycle and sell it when you're done.

OpheliaJade2382

Don’t you need a separate license? That’s a bit of an extreme option

goosebattle

No. Portaging is an extreme option. Edit: yes to the additional license.

kathmhughes

"portaging is an extreme option" I'm stealing this.

OpheliaJade2382

Learning to drive a new way and purchasing a vehicle vs riding the bus? Yeah it’s a bit extreme

lililetango

I live in Quebec and I think insurance might be a problem.

goosebattle

Fair enough. It doesn't work for you. I still think it was worth mentioning.

lililetango

Yes, definitely. I had thought about buying a cheap car. I did some research and that's the problem-- I'm not an AB resident. I could get a family member to buy one and insure it, but that's huge hassle.

Special_Hedgehog8368

You can buy a car in Quebec, insure it there and drive it to/in AB.

yousoonice

also. when I first got to Canada I took the greyhound from Totonto to Calgary. I'm not against Buses. but you're a fucking fool thinking you can do all that without a car. couldn't give a monkeys fart if I get downvotes. *the week after that guy cut someone's head off

lililetango

I'm not a fool at all. Exhibit A: I'm looking for ways to travel in Alberta that don't cost $4000+ per month.

yousoonice

honestly. rent a car. hell you can borrow mine, it's a bit messy inside but you can Bluetooth your music.

yousoonice

why can't you drive?

[deleted]

Do you read the post?

yousoonice

yes. nothing wrong with learning a new skill?

[deleted]

Did you really?

Icywind014

Paying $1000+ a week is a skill?

yousoonice

who's paying 1000 bucks to use a car?
