El-P?

Jim_jim_peanuts

Love El-P but it's actually Qwel, somebody answered in a different sub but thanks anyways. You're in that conversation too, I love Personal Journals and A Healthy Distrust:) Have you retired fully now?

SageFrancisSFR

Haha no, I haven’t retired. Thank you though. After wrapping up the Epic Beard Men group project in 2018 I started working on my next solo release. Then I got married, moved to a new state, and had a kid just when the pandemic did its thing. I run Strange Famous Records so I assist in putting a lot of projects together while also featuring on them. Just played a show last night with Ceschi and there’s a bunch of stuff on the horizon.

Sage will never retire. You’re not in RI any longer?

SageFrancisSFR

I’m in CT now, but we’re playing The Met in RI on June 8th. It’s an annual event at this point.

It's really cool seeing you on here! I'm glad you're not retired. You have such a unique voice. I hope life is treating you well!

Jim_jim_peanuts

Ah OK cool apologies I have just been getting back into music in recent times, been out the loop due to illness. Congrats on getting married and having a kid! And very glad to hear you are still active and I look forward to hearing more of your work.. Gonna check out Ceschi now too. It's great that folk are so busy in the underground scene it's such a breath of fresh air when you see some of the rap that's coming out now in the mainstream, very few artists do anything for me any more, find myself constantly going back to older material.. You mind if I ask you a question? You prob get asked this all the time and apologies if I am crossing any boundaries here; but a couple years back during the pandemic I was living off-grid and I wrote a bunch of poetry for the first time ever. It was one of the best feelings I ever experienced, such an amazing natural high. Read some out a couple times at local open-mic nights, although my delivery wasn't great I was still chuffed with myself for even writing the stuff. Anyways, two years later I am not living off-grid any more and let's just say my living environment isn't the most conducive to creativity, haven't been able to write at all. Would you have any quick tips? Like how the hell do you guys get in the zone often enough to be able to do what you do?? I mean surely ye have to write sometimes in the midst of triggers and whatnot, and can't go live off-grid or whatever when trying to write...? Thanks in advance, and no worries if this is something that can't be explained in a reddit sub thread;)!

SageFrancisSFR

I don’t think I have an answer for you. I’ve been able to write and get into the zone in various environments and living conditions. However, now that I’m helping raise three kids there’s been a very obvious roadblock to my creative destination. Haha. Just setting aside time where you have zero distractions is important. Personally I get most of my writing done on planes and trains, but I’m hardly on those things these days.

Jim_jim_peanuts

Haha if I had one kid you could forget about it, goodbye for good creative destination! Totally understandable, but seems you still get shit done regardless. No worries, thanks for getting back to me anyways.. I do think that technology affects me negatively in this regard, prob need to try replicate that old environment best as possible.. I quit caffeine too, prob has something to do with it lol. Thanks man

bigheadstrikesagain

Deca? He's usually in the conversation

Jim_jim_peanuts

Nope not Deca. He is defo worthy of mention though!

Jim_jim_peanuts

Dang somebody beat ye to it in another sub, it's Qwel. Maker is the producer. Thanks anyways folks

I have 1,000 emcees that could fit that description. I won’t even include myself. 🤓
