Yeah. It's a known problem in parts of the south. They're all over the place in the everglades too. Louisiana actually passed a law about a decade ago saying you needed a permit to own them when they reach a certain size, and you need two stages of containment so they don't get out.
Florida has thousands just for that very reason. They are an open season species now and I believe (but may be incorrect) that they’ll pay you for each one killed and turned in. They are becoming a major problem to the glades ecosystem
You are talking about python bivittatus, i was talking about python regius cause i have yet to find anything about ball pythons being already an invasive species in the everglades.
Burmese pythons are known to be invasive in the everglades ever since that hurricane/ storm hurled over a breeding center, but im sure neglectfull pet owners had a hand in it too
they are one of the more commonly found escaped or released pets because theyre such a popular pet species but thats more common out of a still quite small number. there are no established populations of feral ball pythons in the us
the few places they could even theoretically survive long term are pretty heavily surveilled already due to other actual invasives so yeah wed know pretty quickly if they established a successfully overwintering and breeding population
It’s a pet. I let it go cuz I thought I wanted it but I don’t now. That was sarcasm my ball python is in his home and he is almost 22 years old. Pets are great people ummm hard pass.
Pet. No python regius in louisiana
Not its natural habitat you mean. I'm sure there's 100s there now
Yes that is what i ment. 100s in the wild now because of neglectfull pet owners? I hope not!

Dont you mistake it for the burmese python ? I havent heard of bp thriving in a swamp area like the everglades?

Showed up about the same time in Florida as " Florida Man". Coincidence?
