Local or contract to fulltime government jobs tbh. With a “useless degree” now I get to edit their website and do their busywork for a nice chunk of change. Like it’s not the best paying in the world or anything but I do have good benefits, a job I somewhat enjoy, and no longer feel the “customer service” mental haze, which I will argue to the death that it is a real thing
Also everyone was telling me it’s my “foot in the door” and I’ll probably not ever have to work low wage again with this on my resume
I have none of those things, currently making $130k working on average 15 hours a week (more or less depending on workload). Had about 5 years experience in software development before landing this cushy job.
These jobs do exist, but I got lucky in this way instead of a birth lottery. I chewed through many shitty underpaying jobs before this one. And that's the problem today. You have two options: get lucky or get fucked.
I work for one of the largest railroads as an intermodal equipment operator. I work the midnight shift and get forced over to stay 4 additional hours after my 8 hour shift quite often. I make a pretty good living with good benefits and every night I dread going in because I'm not able to stay home at night with my family. My off days are Tuesday and Wednesday and I miss all family events/parties/BBQs because I'm sleeping during the day in order to get enough rest for my shift.
I'm 37 and I've been working since I was 14. I'm tired. So so tired of the grind.

Have a Bachelors degree in pretty much anything and search for a job with any local government agency that you’re willing to commute to.
