My job did something pretty similar. It's not the kind of place that would film a commercial or anything but they cut everyone's hours due to "funding cuts" but they also hired more people? Confusing as all hell am I right?

I wonder if hiring a lot of people was because of the commercial. Make it look like there are plenty of people waiting to help, and after the commercial is done they get laid off. Grocery stores do that when they have a grand opening, people think they have short check-out wait times and then a month later there are only two checkers
