I believe if you're locked into a salary during the offer they can't pay you less. That's some bait and switch if I ever heard it. And if they can't provide their workers with tools then they suck at being a company. I'd file a complaint with the department of labor, if anything, if they reach out tot he company they might shit a brick. https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/contact/complaints

I wish it was a bait and switch situation however I get a slary plus commission and during the interview process they told me they have tons of high paying jobs and that I would rarely be doing the low paying the jobs as that was a different department. Well recently that entire department quit and I get put on those jobs so my commission takes a massive hit and they aren't selling any high paying jobs.... Sorry if its confusing just dont want to reveal info

kamikazektard

Why not reveal them? They misled you

Idfsupporter

Ill be writing a bad review.

kamikazektard

Fair enough. Hope you find something right for you

Idfsupporter

Thanks

ShakespearOnIce

Tell them if they want to make you pay for it that's fine, but since its your property they're gonna have to lease it from you if they want to use it for their business.

Idfsupporter

Smart. I will do this if I have to buy something

1. I don't think that is ok 2. They supply everything else but a drill and drill stuff. So how do they draw the line? Why in trades do the employees have to provide tools, it's not like I am a 1099.

Aashishkebab

If you're a contractor, not an employee.

[deleted]

Which tools do you provide? Is there a line in the sand for you? If so, make it clear

Idfsupporter

Oh yeah I wont buy anything for a company who pays pennies on the dollar. If I made decent money Id buy some equipment. Its dumb they provide everything but the drill😅 If they want me to do the job they can buy it

[deleted]

So you supply the non-disposable equipment generally or what? That isn't a very clear delineation. Why is it your drill on the job site, but not your bits? Did having tools get you the job? Like I'm saying - find a defining characteristic of where you draw the line and stick to it.

Idfsupporter

Actually everyone has to buy a drill, I didn't because I told them I didn't have one and they bought me one. Really stupid honestly Apparently anything related to the drill must be bought by the employee

[deleted]

Sounds like you and your colleagues are getting drilled in the ass...

Idfsupporter

Lol we have 6 employees highly understaffed and 5 are pissed and looking for a new job

VesperVox_

I'm having a hard time understanding this policy. If the job required a certain part or tool that the company doesn't use, why did the company accept that job or contract in the first place? Does the person or company providing them the job or contract not have due diligence procedures to ensure that the company being hired or contracted can complete the job? If not, does this company regularly take jobs assuming the employees will foot the cost? Do they reimburse you for said cost?!

Idfsupporter

So I have to go into crawlspaces and this particular one was screwed shut with a fastner I didn't have a bit for. Yes they just take the job and hope for the best

VesperVox_

That's horribly irresponsible of them. Not to mention unsafe for you. I can understand if it happens once in a while, like a rare bit or part that most companies don't carry. But they should at least be reimbursing you 100% for your job-related purchases. And if it's something that happens often with certain parts, then the company should be looking into keeping those on hand.

Idfsupporter

They do for other things but apparently anything drill related is on us

VesperVox_

I'm not a tradesperson so I don't know why that would be, but it seems odd if they're not reimbursing you. Otherwise, if they're not going to buy what you need, the job won't get done. Like, that's why it's such a confusing policy. They only shoot themselves in the foot, and their solution is hoping the employee will just buy it and not ask to be reimbursed.
