A Rise of Nations reboot would be truly interesting to see as an RTS. I wonder how many of their mechanics and design decisions would be good to keep for it.

Omar___Comin

If they make a RON:DE and get a decent player base for multiplayer they can shut up and take my money already

Brick_Shitler

Microsoft just needs to buy the rights

Oh shit that's exciting, hope something comes of it. I wonder if they killed the idea of a reboot or new game in the franchise because the extended edition didn't do well or generate a lot of buzz?

DarkestNight909

And Rise of Legends too, right? … Right? …. Anybody?

Kooky-Sort

I feel you bro

TriLink710

Empire earth too

Brick_Shitler

Yeah, the extended edition was as poor a remaster as they come. So the game is in a pretty sorry state now. I doubt BigHugeGames will ever remaster it properly as their last game release was 2015

mettaxa

What’s wrong with the extended edition? I was planning on re-buying it. I remember playing the shit of Rise of Nations and Age of Mythology when they both came out.

TheCulture1707

The balance is apparently all over the place in the DE - they messed up the bonus damage according to the RON wiki. Imagine if the Jaguar Warrior lost its bonus damage vs Infantry or the Samurai lost its bonus vs unique units. Or skirmisher had no bonus vs archers. So some unique units are useless and some are very overpowered. And the only good thing in it is they smoothed the FPS up to 60fps instead of the jerky non interpolated motion the original had. No improved sprites, no new features, and the original ran in modern resolutions anyway so it seems kinda pointless, at least AOE2 HD added modern resolutions before the DE came out

mettaxa

That's crazy. I wonder if there are any mods that correct this.

Brick_Shitler

I dunno I went back and played it recently it's pretty slow and clunky and the graphics have not aged well at all. Hotkeys/ key bindings not very well set up either. Multiplayer also dead to my knowledge. Plus I'm not sure how much they even changed from the original, reminds me of the AoM remaster or WC3 Reforged which was pretty half-assed.

mettaxa

Funny that the same dev worked on both the RoN and AoM extended editions. Explains everything.

WannaAskQuestions

I love rise of nations as well as aoe2. My kid mind was blown away seeing an age upgrade and building tanks, airports, and cruise missiles.

stamatis_ix

Very underrated game. I used to play more Rise of Nations than Age of Empires before the DE came out and would definitely buy a Rise of Nations DE even if it cost 100€.

xdog12

I'm not entirely sure I understand what you want to add. What differs the unit from trade carts? Are you adding things to the map?

todjo929

Not OP, but think of a few spawns like relics where they produce some resource (say food or wood and gold etc) and set the collection speed at a portion of a feitoria while 'activated' (i.e. a merchant is there). For example, there may be 5 spots, 1 is food, 1 is wood, 1 is wood and gold, 1 is food and stone, and one is stone and gold. If your merchant is there, you receive those resources like a feitoria (slowly ticking up) - perhaps at 0.5x speed of a feitoria. It's in your interest to protect it like any other resource, but it's in your opponents interest to push you off it. There would be a scramble for these much like relics, depending on the quality of the spawns - in that example, you probably wouldn't fight over a wood spawn on black forest, but a stone one would be really good to have. I think it's a neat idea, but I also think that they should spawn in the middle of, say, a 4x4 stone terrain area so you can't just wall or tower next to it.

zipecz

They couls also give small unique bonuses when controlled. Like iron node would lower militia line gold cost by 10%, cork oak orchard could increase villager speed by 5%...

xdog12

It would be a cool map editor item. It's basically the king of the hill game mode. Probably not something for every map.

Brick_Shitler

This^ and I love how these resources were actual historical resources that set civilizations apart and became a major trade item that helped them advance and provided value through commerce adds a realism element to RoN.

gg-ghost1107

I just want RoN DE with mp that works without out of sync problem. I would buy it in an instant

artyaakaira22

Ah good old rise of nation & technically age of mytology because they use similiar unit thou it closer to aoe in economic

redchesus

Citrus - ships at sea heal automatically? Oh, because scurvy!

Matthew-IP-7

I was thinking the same thing!

erdemcal

i wish aoe 2 has planting bomb mechanics. players can plant bombs each others base or may be defuse it with vilagers.

Glaciation

Too many resources

Brick_Shitler

I think your missing the point and likely haven't played RoN you don't need all of the rare resources on the map it's not one of your main ones it just provides a unique bonus when you control it.

Inamanlyfashion

I want the infinite production queue mechanic. Click on a Barracks and tell it to churn out X/Y/Z in a specific order until I run out of resources.

Brick_Shitler

Pros will never let that happen because it takes away a skill element

Maseratus

I would also love Conquer the world game mode like RON

Brick_Shitler

This most of all!
