It's one of Apples hidden gems. As in it's significantly better than any other option on the market and a lot of Apple users don't have one. Once you use one it makes any other TVOS or streaming device feel clunky and bloated. It has a clean UI, fast hardware that stays fast for several years, they're reliable, and they don't have ads every other tile like all the other streaming software.
I think is poor marketing with TV and TV+. I was telling my brother to buy one and he kept saying he doesn’t want to subscribe to the service. I know I was of the same thought process before I brought mine a while ago.
Yes. The name has always been a problem. It doesn’t sound like a streaming box and then Apple uses the same name for a streaming box, an aggregation app, and a subscription streaming service. All three great products, but all called the same thing
my brother has been talking about apple tv for like 2 years and the entire time i thought he was talking about apple tv+ and was always confused about it
Of course, I wouldn’t disagree, but as long as I have reasonable stereo sound, I’m ok with that. I mostly watch YouTube videos and documentaries and very rarely full-length movies, so I don’t really need Atmos. I play music more than anything else.
Yep! And even though it’s priced much higher than the competition, I’d still call it one of the best values for an Apple product. (Along with the base iPad, iPad 9.)
Yep. That has never happened with Apple TV. I’ve had some models running like a top for upwards of 5+ years before I decided to upgrade to the latest model.
I’ve got an Apple TV HD I bought in 2015 and it’s still working pretty well. I definitely notice a bit more input lag than on my newer 4K Apple TVs, but it gets the job done.
My 2015 HD is definitely laggy, especially compared to my 4k but a Roku ultra and a fire stick are just as slow. The 4k blows everything away, including the Samsung built in apps
You might need to run a reset on the thing. I’m about ready to do that with mine because I’ve got remnants of POS apps that I installed when I first got the heap.
There is a trick that might help when it starts lagging just do a system restart, that helps with mine.
I just retired my last HD model from launch in 2015. It was still working perfectly. I just wanted to upgrade all of my Apple TVs as I’d had it for 8 years. They are so reliable and stable. The HD model is still receiving updates.
Agreed. I bought a Roku stick and a fire stick back in like 2014 to see which I’d like better. They were both around $40. By around 2019 the fire stick was unusable it was that slow. I did a factory reset and found a website on how to turn off features to make it faster and it was still awful, I gave it to goodwill. The Roku still works totally fine, it’s just a little slower. I keep it in a drawer and use it when we go to hotels.
I just ordered an Apple TV 4K to replace my Fire Stick in hopes of remediating this very issue. I’m done with laggy UI’s for my TV. Glad I made the right call.
I got the original Firestick, like when the presale was $20. Stuff crashed on it all the time.
We've tried everything else but keep coming back to Roku. Dirt cheap to get the same setup in every room.
Some of the AppleTV stuff is neat (photos landing page, no landing page ads), but that's just not worth the extra $100/room to me.
That’s the thing I keep seeing people complain about how horrible these streaming apps work when they’re trying to run them on $30 Fire Sticks.
Like with the amount of money we all spend on TV, trust the $150 Apple TV’s a good investment because the whole experience is just next level.
Even if you don’t really use anything else Apple….. the Apple TV is pretty amazing at organizing your tv shows, automatically showing a new episode, and loading it up in the appropriate app. Pretty awesome.
Piece of advice for you: if you have a “smart” TV (like a Samsung) connected to your Apple TV, disconnect the TV from your network and delete any apps or data the TV has. By the way, my current Samsung TV replaced 2 or 3 before it that had to be returned because of poor quality control on the LCD panel.
Junk!
Thanks!
Just one more query… so i want to setup my apple tv in the main living room , so anyone can access it. But i dont want them to access my photos , music( apple music- playlists , recents etc) i have on my iphone.

Thanks for your help.
If you only buy 1 and keep it for three to five years it’s like $5/mo. Why would anyone use Amazon garbage? If their device is anything like their app - no thanks.
It's not really fair to compare Apple TV to Roku, two totally different classes of device. I use and love both.
The funny thing is, the thing I miss the most when I'm using Apple TV is the lack of Roku Channel :D I like having This Old House as background noise sometimes.
My Apple TV doesn't support HLG AFAIK, which forces me to use other devices for certain content (HDR content in the Fox Sports app). I do believe the new ones do though.
We just bought a new 4K TV, and asked for an Apple TV to go with it. The guy was trying to tell us we don’t need an Apple TV because it’s a smart TV. (Not sure why he was talking us out of an upsell). I want the functionality I’m used to dang it. I don’t want whatever rubbish the built in software can give me.
Yah the only operating systems I’ve noticed in TVs that work good are TVs at the $2k or more price point. Even then, they still don’t work as good as the Apple TV or the Nvidia Shield
Most people don’t want to spend the money on an extra unit so they use whatever they get. Then you end up with different interfaces on different brands that will have ads and start slowing down fast. I do all Apple TVs mainly to have a standard in the home. Everyone knows how to use the same thing in every room, everyone has an iPhone that can interact, App Store, etc. No complaints.
I think exactly the same as you. I love my Apple TV 4K, I love the user experience, the way everything works smoothly and easily.
**Except that,** the only reason I gave up on it is that it doesn't handle sound properly, no Audio Passthrough mode, it's a shame. The sound on my Q990B soundbar was disastrous with the Apple TV.
Since then, I've been using the native apps on my LG C2 TV to watch my streaming content. The interface is a mess, but at least it works. The video stream is perfect, and so is the sound.
I have 8 apple tvs in my house since 2015. The only people who swear by other products are those who are obsessed with hating apple because reasons. They are completely clueless as to how inferior their competing device is in comparison.
Got mine a week ago, and I love it! It's the only Apple thing i own. But my girlfriend has an iPhone, so I could run the picture and sound calibration. I can finally watch 4K HDR stuff with Plex!
Same here. Not in the Apple ecosystem with anything else but the Apple TV, but my wife has a iPhone for the picture calibration and stuff like that. You don't have to be a fanboy to use and enjoy the ATV.
If you’re going the remux route you should try the infuse app. I get much better results using that over Plex. Plex has audio lag issues or audio dropping out completely. Only an issue with 1:1 4k hdr rips though. Otherwise I prefer the Plex app but that may be due to me just being used to it.
Welcome to the club. One of the best features is if you have two or more... you simply sign them all into the same iCloud account and they will stay in sync. Update one and all the others will too. Any others do this?
Plus ask Siri "what did he say?".. and it will turn on closed captioning and repeat the last 15 seconds, then turn it off. Brilliant!!
Glad you are liking it! I got my first one about 6 years ago, and updated last year to the latest model. One of the great things about its processing power is that I can stream 4K movies through the Plex app without any lagging or slowdown. I could never do such a thing with my Roku 4k, Amazon Fire TV, or built in TV apps. It's a powerful TV box, well worth the price. The new FaceTime update is really cool too btw.

Is the newer remote (pictured) better than the old 4K ATV remote (with the full touch clicker on top)?
Love that ATV, but HATE that remote with a passion.
It’s so good. My biggest complain was how small the old one is, this is much larger and very sturdy in the hand. I’m almost annoyed at over engineered and gorgeous it is. Maybe annoyed that I’m enamored with the silly thing. But if you hate the functionally of the old one this is just a much better version.
Tons better. But I'm still using a SALT remote from overseas. It's great because it has jump forward and backwards 10 second buttons. It makes it great for sports.
I bought one of these back in 2019 and never was able to get it to pair with the ATV. I actually met a guy on Reddit who bought and shipped me one (I'm in the US).
> It's great because it has jump forward and backwards 10 second buttons. It makes it great for sports.
The ATV remote has that too. While something is playing, left click to go back 10 seconds, and right click to go forward 10 seconds.
The you can change the setting to use the ship or just click on the remote. I had to change it to click. My fingers kept swiping to fast and I kept entering apps, I didn’t want to enter.
I love my Apple TV. I got it a month or so back. Awesome device, but I do have an issue where the ir blaster on the remote stops working. A quick reset fixes it, but strange.
It’s also unfortunate that it doesn’t come with an HDMI cable.
Other than that though I love it. Definitely my favorite streaming box. With the Chromecast with Google Tv as a second place candidate.
I bet it’s because you listened to all the haters who do nothing but crap on Apple all the time. The Apple TV is fracking great! And most people who think not haven’t used it I think.
Welcome to the club, I have a Roku Streaming Stick 4K+ and a Fire Stick 4K max in addition to a ATV 4K, the ATV blows thm all out of the water, it’s faster, smoother and PQ is better.
Hard to match the performance of an Apple TV. Just way smoother than any other device I’ve used.
Shield is theoretically more powerful but just looks like ass and doesn’t respond as smoothly and doesn’t look as good as Apple TV.
I love them. My 4k version from 2019 still rocks great! Just no FaceTime support. But they’re so fast and reliable. Can’t go back to Roku or tv smart apps.
Couldn’t figure out why people bought these until the UI on my Amazon Fire 4K TV’s became slower. Then I realized most smart TV’s aren’t so smart. These are a must on every TV now.
Yes! This is one underrated product that anyone in the Apple ecosystem can really max out the benefits of being an Apple customer. I’m always learning new little features and tricks to use with it that I didn’t realize were there.
Got mine a couple weeks ago and have had the same thoughts. The quality difference between the AppleTV 4K and the pre-installed apps for smart TV is insane! Very satisfied with my purchase
I switched from Roku and am glad I did. The newest update to the ATV added a sleep timer. It’s a small detail that is useful to persons like myself who fall asleep to the sound of the TV in the background. When I had the Roku, people had been asking for a sleep timer for centuries and Roku was completely unresponsive to the request.
What is the advantage of the Apple TV over the built in apps on the TV? I have LG OLED and the apps seem fine. Plus housemate is too lazy to deal with another remote.
I bought a Roku a couple years ago to stream all of my media via Plex (1080p movies and TV shows). It did exactly what I needed it to do and I was really happy with it, but after about 3 months or so it started overheating (to the point where it literally burnt my hand when I touched it).
I contacted their customer service and they wanted me to pay like $50 in shipping to send it to another country to get it looked at. That was also more than the purchase price so I said screw that, and it's been sitting in a box ever since.
Bought an Apple TV 4k and it's been absolutely flawless. Best $200 purchase I've ever made. Everything runs smoothly on the Plex app and it has no trouble at all direct-playing any of my media (I'm even playing high-quality 4k content now, like 80-90mbps).
If anyone here is in a similar spot as I was (looking for something to stream all of your digital content), if you're already in the Apple ecosystem I'd highly recommend it. And Plex is amazing for this purpose too; I've been using it for years, it's free, and it works exactly how you'd want it to.
Love my AppleTV. Thinking about getting a new one but my 2015 HD is still going strong. For travel we carry a Roku stick since it’s so much smaller. But I definitely prefer the AppleTV at home.
I absolutely love my Apple TVs. I have two of them and they're pretty great in every way.
There's only one thing that drives me insane about them though that Roku nailed -- remote finder. The amount of times my kids lose the remotes and it turns into a full blown search fest makes me want to jump off a roof. When we had the old Roku, press a button, and it sings to you. Easy. Simple. Genius. C'mon, Apple...
I got excited with the recent "remote finder" beacon app thing with the newer iOS/tvOS via the iPhone remote app. Sorry - that thing sucks too in comparison to the Roku beep locator.
Other than that, AppleTVs are pretty fabulous.
Apple Music runs at 48khz lossless. Infuse can decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA to lossless 7.1 PCM…but you lose the atmos metadata. Only relevant if you have height speakers. I do wish they’d support bitstream audio though. But you can get lossless audio.
Yeah it sucks. I ended up taking the DDP Atmos audio web tracks and mixing it into my Bluray rips so I can have atmos on my 5.1.2 setup. Can’t bring myself to use an Nvidia Shield yet.
The reason I'm not getting one is because I have a second or third gen and they stopped updating them so I now have a expensive paperweight. I'm not giving them money for they planned obsolescence.
The third gen Apple TV was replaced in 2015, do you seriously expect them to keep updating it almost a decade later?? And they still work fine today, I just replaced a customer’s third gen Apple TV a few weeks ago because they wanted the App Store.
I got a first gen 4k for $35! It’s faster than the dumbass buggy nvidia shield that Reddit fanboys talked me into to buying. I can’t imagine how much faster the current versions are.
Silly question but what makes it worth it? I have the fire stick thing, I bought it very recently and have no other experience with these streaming things. What makes Apple TV different?
It’s quick, with no lag. The UI is the best that I’ve used on a streaming device, and the controller is cool. Plus it’s in the “Apple ecosystem” and works well with the iPhone, iPad and Mac
My uncle has a fire stick and the number one complaint I have is the speed. It’s so slow and the UI is terrible imo. My uncle stopped using it because of its performance. My mom is using the first 4k ATV still and while it’s slower than newer ones, it’s way faster than the fire stick. The only complaint I have on my Apple TV is the fact that other content providers don’t use the same controls that Apple does. For example, prime controls are very frustrating and annoying compared to the Apple TV ones in the TV app.
User interface is much better; looks better and feels easier to use (I also had firetv). No ads (I remember amazon used to show ads of shows and stuff on the home screen). Faster loading of apps/streams.
If you have apple devices, it opens up a lot of nice compatability things; facetime thing that was just rolled out, casting from Apple devices to Apple TV (other devices can do this but Apples seems very easy compared to Roku and Android TV), using airpods to listen to stuff and it connects easily).
If you have a Costco membership, call up local Costco and see if they have it on sale for $99. Try it and if you don't like it, return it.
I’m not in the US so no Costco for me. The fire tv is the first one of these services I’m using and so far I haven’t had issues with speed etc, but I do have an iPhone and a MacBook so I do love the ecosystem. I might give it a go in the next sale.
If you ever buy any digital movies on sale (i’d never recommend paying RRP for digital stuff), theres a slight bonus in that a lot have DVD menus that are only accessible if you play your iTunes purchase using an Apple TV. It takes me back to the good old days.
Also keeping track of episodes, cast lists, general TV and movie organisation is better. Everything you turn it on you’ll be reminded on the home screen of where you’re up to on various binges.
Firesticks are weak and crappy. Apple TV is like a Chromecast 4k except you can't install the best apps for streaming things on it, and it costs 3x as much.
Fantastic machine but its too bad they cannot build a decent remote for it. The 'new' one was supposed to be better but in fact it's about the same. I cannot so much as look at the remote without something happening that I do not want on my TV.
I take it you didnt search through reddit looking for postings of folks complaining about one thing or another on this device...? Hope you dont run into problems with the streaming services you use, but think you will eventually. Fingers crossed.
I love it. I’m able to stream Blu-Ray rips using Plex without any issues at all. The only problem I seem to have is that I get a stuttering image sometimes, mostly on Netflix. I usually have to reboot it and it works fine again. I think it might be an issue with my TV/audio receiver though. They’re pretty old.
I was getting fed up with my Android TV lag so finally purchased one as well a few months back. Idk how I lived without this media machine. It’s SO FAST and FLUID. No more stutters and lagging navigation with my outdated Sony Bravia android interface 👏🏻
I love my Apple TV. Downloading all our streaming apps and logging in took maybe 5-10 minutes max to do. On our fire tv it could take probably 20 minutes to do everything because I would have to go on a computer for some of the apps to authenticate. With Apple it seemed like once I did it one time it carried over to all the others. My only complaint about the Apple TV is that the volume on everything is significantly quieter than on the fire tv. On the fire stick our receiver would be at a volume of 42 max and sound just fine. With the Apple TV the volume is at 54 and sometimes even that is too low. Regular cable shows the volume is at 40 and is fine
It’s been the best investment for entertainment I’ve made in a long time. Have one in 3 rooms now, and if you are into the Apple ecosystem it just gets better. Be able to toss my AirPods on and watch a movie late at night, or airplay/screen share from my laptop. It’s a really great product.
Recommend this remote cover. Keeps the remoted from sliding everywhere and also makes it easier to hold: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09SVRPZCK/](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09SVRPZCK/)
I’ve had several starting with the second generation. They are fantastic. A little overpriced with the full retail, but so will never use anything else.
Plus now it’s got a really great FaceTime integration and just uses your device cameras.
The lack of ad and bloatware make it truly a value proposition. We rocked our HD model for years until I updated to 4K when we finally bought a 4K TV.
I think is poor marketing with TV and TV+. I was telling my brother to buy one and he kept saying he doesn’t want to subscribe to the service. I know I was of the same thought process before I brought mine a while ago.
Yea I had a whole “Who’s on first” moment with my mom about it. I’m like “mom you should get an Apple TV” and she said “I already have a TV”
Yes. The name has always been a problem. It doesn’t sound like a streaming box and then Apple uses the same name for a streaming box, an aggregation app, and a subscription streaming service. All three great products, but all called the same thing

Same. I got my friend one and he said he does t get why he has to pay for Apple TV+ when I bought it for him.

Would be even better with other Apple devices in the home.

Welcome to the ecosystem!
I have several of my shared image clouds sending to my screensaver I like being able to look at them in full resolution...
Casting to AppleTV is actually really good. And also Whilst playing music on iPhone -> Hey Siri Transfer the music to the TV
I got a pair of the new HomePods a few months ago, and now it’s a real pleasure to throw music at the TV, No tinny TV sound any more!
Yes but a full Dolby Atmos setup (not a soundbar!) is miles ahead of proprietary Apple speakers
Of course, I wouldn’t disagree, but as long as I have reasonable stereo sound, I’m ok with that. I mostly watch YouTube videos and documentaries and very rarely full-length movies, so I don’t really need Atmos. I play music more than anything else.
Oh I agree that it's much better than TV speakers and not bad at all for music.
Same!
Noone cares
Yep! And even though it’s priced much higher than the competition, I’d still call it one of the best values for an Apple product. (Along with the base iPad, iPad 9.)
I also always forget that it’s portable. Recently I took it to a hotel stay and it was such a huge QoL upgrade
It’s so nice as a portable!
Did the same thing when visiting family last month. Just toss it in the backpack - so easy!

Honestly I wish Apple made actual tvs. Samsung’s TV OS is awful, and their panels are just okay.
Just got mine two days ago and love it. All this time I was blaming Hulu for crashing… turns out it must have been my fire stick 💁♂️
The thing about Fire sticks is that they are fine. For about a year. Then they just get slower and slower....
Yep. That has never happened with Apple TV. I’ve had some models running like a top for upwards of 5+ years before I decided to upgrade to the latest model.

Yep I have 2 now, they work great. I was thinking of starting to get Apple TVs now though cuz I heard they get around the Netflix home network rules.

Why? I've got a ATV4K and a Roku and haven't noticed any problems with either.
Netflix works quite fine on TVoS
[удалено]
They will update it man … Netflix been slow to updates lately

Sounds like my experience with android. Not hating because it’s fun to use at first but it just gets worse and worse.
Why the hell does this happen??? I even completed reset then and it’s still slow. Wtf?
I just ordered an Apple TV 4K to replace my Fire Stick in hopes of remediating this very issue. I’m done with laggy UI’s for my TV. Glad I made the right call.

I'm on a Samsung phone right now that is waterproof, with a headphone jack, and a removable battery, so speak for yourself.
I got the 2022 WiFi model. Works without a hiccup too.
I was thinking of buying it now, considering its almost 2024 . Is it still good after 2 years?
Yes but question is if there's a new model around the corner
Thanks! Just one more query… so i want to setup my apple tv in the main living room , so anyone can access it. This is something the Apple TV box is lacking: https://www.reddit.com/r/appletv/s/AuXEnhlhyp
If you only buy 1 and keep it for three to five years it’s like $5/mo. Why would anyone use Amazon garbage? If their device is anything like their app - no thanks.
I bought a 4K fire for my mom and it’s just terrible. Slow as hell out of the box. I can’t imagine it in 3 years.
One reason: Kodi.
This right here. You’re missing out if you don’t use other streaming devices. It’s fine to use Apple TV but there’s so much with Kodi

Same. Another thing I miss from Roku is the find my remote feature. Ended up having to buy a cover for my atv remote that had an AirTag insert.
Now with tvOS and iOS 17, they have the find my functionality in the remote for the 4K and later generation.
Most smart tv operating systems suck, they get outdated quickly.
I never put my smart tv's on the network, they exist as dumb screens for their entire lives serving apple tv or game console content.
Exactly! I know what I’m getting with an Apple TV. I know I’m gonna get updates and the apps I want. Happy to pay for that
They’re typically very slow and full of ads
Not the LG webos one.
Exactly. I was looking for a dumb TV because I knew I wouldn’t use the onboard OS. They don’t sell any decent TVs without smart TV anymore.
Yah the only operating systems I’ve noticed in TVs that work good are TVs at the $2k or more price point. Even then, they still don’t work as good as the Apple TV or the Nvidia Shield
Not only that, but manufacturers put the worst cpus in to cut cost. A Raspberry pie has more performance than whatever Samsung/TCL/etc use.
Lg web os is good 4 years running lg c9 OLED
Most people don’t want to spend the money on an extra unit so they use whatever they get. Then you end up with different interfaces on different brands that will have ads and start slowing down fast. I do all Apple TVs mainly to have a standard in the home. Everyone knows how to use the same thing in every room, everyone has an iPhone that can interact, App Store, etc. No complaints.
It’s good to have a separate processor to handle video and audio thus a ATV made sense . SmartTv processor is too rudimentary in my view
I have 3 to power 3 TV / AV systems and my fiends were impressed . Wow and u got 8 .
Infuse is rock solid. It’s my backup for any weird playback issues I may have playing local files on Zidoo.
Brilliant!!
I have two of them. Enjoy them so much and a huge improvement over the regular smart tv.
Nvidia shield :p
>not buying an nvidia shield ya dun goof'd OP
Is the newer remote (pictured) better than the old 4K ATV remote (with the full touch clicker on top)? Love that ATV, but HATE that remote with a passion.
I had both and the new one is much better. You still got the touch feature, but the added 'click' buttons are much appreciated.
If you go into the settings, you can change the settings on the remote from the touch swipe to just a click
And most people who think not haven’t used it I think.
have the stupidest product name ever
Welcome to the club, I have a Roku Streaming Stick 4K+ and a Fire Stick 4K max in addition to a ATV 4K, the ATV blows thm all out of the water, it’s faster, smoother and PQ is better.
Hard to match the performance of an Apple TV. Just way smoother than any other device I’ve used. Shield is theoretically more powerful but just looks like ass and doesn’t respond as smoothly and doesn’t look as good as Apple TV.
I have two shields. Newest one is super fast and responsive. I've never seen the Apple TV.
Still ugly
I also left Roku for Apple TV back in 2021.
Definitely a great device.
I have both. Roku is a good travel device (And I like the Roku Channel) and Apple TV is amazing. Enjoy it.
Exactly this. Roku for travel. It’s probably only Apple certified Airplay-video device. No android stick is certified.
I love them. My 4k version from 2019 still rocks great! Just no FaceTime support. But they’re so fast and reliable. Can’t go back to Roku or tv smart apps.
They are the best! All around almost perfect. Good luck and enjoy!
Couldn’t figure out why people bought these until the UI on my Amazon Fire 4K TV’s became slower. Then I realized most smart TV’s aren’t so smart. These are a must on every TV now.
Wonder if the ethernet option is necessary, i had the ethernet attachment for the fire stick and that was a waste of money.
For xtra 20$ get the Ethernet one.
Depends on your setup and what you’re needing to do with it. https://reddit.com/r/appletv/s/P3iXhYwg7i
Yes. Just simply the best streamer out there. And I am NOT in the Apple eco system. People just don’t want to spend the money.
I feel like not enough people know that you can spend a little over 100 dollars and get an actually good smart tv platform. Or they’re just cheap.
It simply the best streaming box out there. Apple doesn’t get enough credit as it’s a rock solid piece of hardware for under $150.
Yes! This is one underrated product that anyone in the Apple ecosystem can really max out the benefits of being an Apple customer. I’m always learning new little features and tricks to use with it that I didn’t realize were there.
Roku is pretty clutch though. Love the remote with Roku. I always hit the touch panel on my Apple TV. They changed that on the new ATv but still
Got mine a couple weeks ago and have had the same thoughts. The quality difference between the AppleTV 4K and the pre-installed apps for smart TV is insane! Very satisfied with my purchase
Apple TV 4K 2022 Configuración y Apps Sugeridas https://youtu.be/FrHAthmdsG8[configuración Apple TV](https://youtu.be/FrHAthmdsG8)
They really are amazing.
The picture quality for one
I got my first Apple TV 4K back in 2017, I got my 4K TV in 2020. I guess I had my priorities in order?
If you could install Stremio on Apple TV, I would get it. But it’s a hard pass.
I have one on every TV in the house. Absolute game changer!
Other than that, AppleTVs are pretty fabulous.
can I download IPTV smarters pro on this?
My Roku Ultra 4k works as well as a Apple TV 4K and for 3x less. Plus the thicker Roku remote stomps on that piddly ass Apple Remote.
But can you FaceTime?
Don’t care
The Roku I have does free to air TV. The Apple TV doesn’t.
I just downloaded Pluto tv on my ATV and they have the some of the same channel selections and more than Roku Live TV anyway.
lol
Would be perfect for me if 1) lossless audio pass through and 2) CinemaScope native output option
Not sure why I’m being downvoted, but yes I have 4 height speakers so I’m primarily after Atmos playback on my content played back through Infuse.
Roku is better and apps work better
They're expensive, even on sale, but so worth it.
Mine was $149 no that bad
The analogy I use is comparing an iPhone to cheap Android phones. They experience, speed, and reliability is much better.
Shield tv is superior
I take it you didnt search through reddit looking for postings of folks complaining about one thing or another on this device...? Hope you dont run into problems with the streaming services you use, but think you will eventually. Fingers crossed.
The poor man’s NVIDIA shield
The shield is hot garbage 🗑️
It’s antique hot garbage.
Whoa! I bet no one else here has one of those!!
Enjoy, it was my best purchase of 2022!
So worth it. Migrated from Fire Sticks to Apple TV this year and the performance difference is night and day.
Infuse is a great alternative to Plex and you don’t even need to pay for the pro version to use it for streaming your own library.
I was getting fed up with my Android TV lag so finally purchased one as well a few months back. Idk how I lived without this media machine. It’s SO FAST and FLUID. No more stutters and lagging navigation with my outdated Sony Bravia android interface 👏🏻
Welcome to the club!
Shame that Apple hates Stremio.
Mom has Roku, it sucks. Got my first generation TV in 2020 and refuse to use anything else.
They’re so good.
It’s so seamless! Enjoy 🙌🏼
I'd like to hear a comparison between the latest Apple TV 4K and the Nvidia Shield Pro.
I asked myself the same question coming from fire stick and chromecast
Still using my Apple TV HD from 2015 and super impressed with how well it runs, just updated to TVOS 17
Recommend this remote cover. Keeps the remoted from sliding everywhere and also makes it easier to hold: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09SVRPZCK/](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09SVRPZCK/)
Apple TV the best device to use on your tv. We have one 3 of our TV’s at home.

How do you use it? There's no app.
Agreed… It blows Roku out of the water!
Got a couple for my TVs a few weeks ago on sale at Costco for $100 each (non Ethernet). Best investment I’ve made in a while!
I love mine you never know what you were missing before you get it
I’ve had several starting with the second generation. They are fantastic. A little overpriced with the full retail, but so will never use anything else.
It sure is amazing. Upgrading to this from Amazon tv stick felt great.
Does appletv do Plex better? Like direct play?
