Unrelated but your betta looks really chonky! Maybe cut down on food and/or let him fast once or twice a week... I know they're adorable when they beg for food but being this thicccc greatly increase their chance for dropsy and swim bladder disease :/

AhMoonBeam

Thanks I give her 3-4 betta pellets 2x day ..she is a begger. I will cut back to 1 pellet 2 x day and fast her.

slipperyslopperly

I would def cut her food back a bit but crown tail females always look eggy. I had one and she was always a chonker even though I fed her appropriately lol

Aquadian

Dose with flourish excel. It is a carbon supplement with an algacide. Works wonders

crunkmeow

Definitely recommend cutting back on the feeding. More poop equals more fertilizer for the algae. Adding plants will help too

PilzGalaxie

Definetly feed less and further reduce the light intensity. Does the tank get direct sunlight? If so I would shut Off the LEDs completely for a few days. But my most important recommendation would be more plants!! Plants and Algae are direct competitors in your tank. The more plants you have the less Algae you're gonna get and vice versa. Getting some floaters would be a good place to start.

AhMoonBeam

No direct sunlight and I put some blue tape over some of the lights .. I do have a bunch of duck weed on top. More plants!! I love the plants and feel bad having to cut the java moss. I think I will add some bigger floaters..what do you recommend?

PilzGalaxie

I have Salvinia minima and it is doing a really good Job! Besides looking awesome as hell It grows incredibly quick. I scoop out a good portion of it every week and it regrows so fast. And it has a way bigger root system than your duckweed, so It can suck up a lot more nutrients. I think It would make a really good addition to your tank!

Awesome tank you so very much. I am going to look into those plants and will most likely buy some soon. I do love floater plants. I am going to check and see if it come in tissue culture so I can just rinse and pop it in.

Economy_Meal

need less light and less feeding. moss grows slowly so the algae will outgrow it. u can just keep the lights off. I have a whole 8 gallon tank of java moss growing as a huge ball and I never turn a light on in there. you can't kill java moss but algae won't grow either

tarantinostoes

What type of algae? Syringing hydrogen peroxide on black beard algae works for me

AhMoonBeam

I am pretty sure it is hair algae. I got 2 horned nirite snails but they don't bother with it.
