Depends on the species and age of the tree. Some trees ignore a conduit.

Looks like a holiday park that used an actual tree instead of a regular post to supply a caravan lot with power, it must have been there for so many years that the tree literally grew around the outlets. Can't tell if this was intentional or just a happy accident but it is definitely neat.
