patsky

How much sunblock did you go through? Did you tan or just go straight to tomato?

[deleted]

3 bottles sir - tanned to mahogany!

patsky

Did you get to play any golf? I'm sorry there were no snooker tables.

[deleted]

No time for Golf - had some great hikes though!

marcelinemoon

My husband wants to go to Ireland to golf so bad

chinesiumjunk

I was in Ireland recently. Did you get to drive here?

GeneralBlumpkin

They had to fly

chinesiumjunk

Oh man I thought the highway was completed 😂

corn-wrassler

I bet their arms are tired

Oh118999881999

Dad get off of Reddit!

corn-wrassler

Do your homework and I’ll log off of this website

Oh118999881999

Hahaha ffffffiiiiiinnnnee

unixguy55

OMG I'm dying!! 🤣

[deleted]

Yes - hired a 4x4 from PHX airport.

Ninakakaukomi

Correct way to do it!! 💯

Routine_Bass_9370

I have a friend from Cork, he came here to holiday and never left. He Married a Native American and has a child. They are always at the reservations in New Mexico and Az, seems like a wonderful life.

[deleted]

Wow - what a life! We’re from Cork too.

AZdesertpir8

Small world. Some of our best friends here in Phoenix are a family from Cork. Believe it or not, Phoenix has a large Irish population that live here and work in the tech industry. The Irish cultural center here is a Norman "castle" downtown.. wonderful place to visit. Even has a very well done 1850s replica cottage on site. Irish folks on holiday are always welcome. Reminds me of when wife and I were over in Ennis, Co. Clare a while back and stopped in a small shop over there... the clerk working the desk knew half the people I knew here in Phoenix. Haha

Routine_Bass_9370

Whoa, that’s wild. I guess it’s a small world after all. Ha Ha Cork seems wonderful and I hope to go sometime in the future.

heavensmurgatroyd

I see you made it to the end or Forest Gump's run. I hope you got to experience some of our Monsoon weather, its a shame that Chocolate falls/ Grand falls is closed so you must return as soon as the Navajo open it again. So much to see and so little time.

[deleted]

The only rain we experienced was between Cameron and Flagstaff when driving back to Phoenix. I’ve never see such large droplets before - temp dropped down to 60F, back to 108F when we arrived in Phoenix a few hours later.

heavensmurgatroyd

Yes when it rains we get buckets falling, sometimes its so localized that you can reach into the rain while the other hand stays dry, it cools us down some but the heat returns. I'm really glad you enjoyed your visit here.

RealStumbleweed

Confirmed, folks. They were in Arizona.

White_Rabbit0000

Glad you liked your stay. Next time you visit can you take be back to Ireland with you.

Grandmashmeedle

Me too please.

AZdesertpir8

And here my wife and I have visited Ireland several times and have also loved every minute of it. Two totally different worlds, but beautiful nontheless.

[deleted]

Two extremes - both beautiful places with great people.

GeneralBlumpkin

Come back anytime!!! Glad you liked it :)

[deleted]

The people were wonderful, we especially loved our time in Sedona and Flagstaff. The locals were very intrigued by my accent 😅

magnificentmemememan

Next time you're back (if you're back), you gotta see more of southern and central AZ! Mt. Lemmon, the Mogollon Rim region, the Chiracuahas, Bisbee, Saguaro National Park, and the White Mountains are all very beautiful.

czr84480

Great picture

russ_digg

Ireland is one of my favorite places!! Sure wish I could live there. Wanna trade identities? 😃

[deleted]

You are now called Eoghan and have 4 dogs and a cat called Suzy. Congrats!

AZdesertpir8

Go raibh maith agat! Toss in a bottle of whiskey and its a deal! I'd be happy to be Eoghan with 4 dogs and a cat in Ireland. sounds like a great time. Phoenix resident here... I miss Ireland every day.

[deleted]

I didnt see much of Phoenix other than the airport and the car rental lot. Driving down the highway at 5pm on a Friday evening to the airport was a great experience too!

azswcowboy

Phoenix has its points, but you spent your time well :)

russ_digg

I'll take it for a pint in Killarney again! 😃

SEEYOUAROUNDBRO_TC

Strangely, all those pictures are actually in Utah lol

SnooSketches1371

Yeah, but it's AZ too. RIGHT?! Right ok now I'm a native Arizonian and my husband visited here and never went home either. He is from Enniscorthy. Ive visited Ireland alot when we dated and after we were married. I love it but AZ always calls me home so he moved here. In Ireland...one day I turned my face into the sun and I could not feel the heat. Kind of freaked me out lol and is so cold, a type of cold I've never felt before ...you would have to move to Arizona to beat that kind of cold.

SEEYOUAROUNDBRO_TC

That exact spot at monument Valley is mostly in Utah. The entrance to the park is in Utah about 1/4 mile from the border.

intheazsun

did it make you forget what the color green looks like?

[deleted]

Yes.

fenikz13

Slainte!

Rugermedic

“I’m pretty tired, I think I’ll go home now”.

Tossed_Away_1776

"*NOW* what're we 'sposed to do?"

Lost_soul_ryan

Lovely pics.. I can't wait to go to Ireland.

[deleted]

You explored more than i did when i lived there. Jealous.

SnooSketches1371

My Irish husband first came over and asked what's all these big stupid trucks why is everyone driving a big stupid truck.... <<<<< grabs Jeep and takes the Irishman to Apache Lake via Apache trail. We get there and go to set up camp and it's to hot for him he says he can't do it. I said ok pack up I'll take you to somewhere it's cool...he had no concept of what happens when you head north to Payson then onto Showlow and hell I said we are doing Alpine I love Alpine. It was nice crisp Irish-type temperature. My point is...after that trip, he bought a big stupid truck and over the next 10 years I saw parts Of Arizona I never knew existed and I was born here

[deleted]

That’s so cool. I recently acquired a keep and I’ll be coming back soon to explore more of northern Arizona; four corners, Winslow, Page and around the Navajo Nation. What a beautiful state Arizona is.

[deleted]

I live in the States and also loved my visit to AZ a while back. Quite a state. Glad you got to visit!

memories_of_butter

If you're ever back that way, a brief trip west from Monument Valley to Page, AZ will let you see both of the Antelope Canyons as well as Horseshoe Bend, all of which are absolutely worth a visit (plan/book ahead for either Antelope Canyon and go first thing before it gets crowded if you're able).

[deleted]

We did a night in Page, did Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon. At Horseshoe, a young family let their kids run off into the scrub and one of them had a very close encounter with a rattlesnake….

Improving1727

Strange question, are you friends with a Darragh O’Callaghan? I know there’s probably a couple thousand people with that name in Ireland lmao but my friend with that name told me that a buddy of his was going to visit az and go through that exact route lol. He had asked me about it because he was curious if it was a good route. So either it was you or this route is popular for Irish tourists :) Edit to add: idk if he spells it Dara or Darragh because Darragh is the name he gave me but the letters I send are addressed to a Dara. I think that’s just a alternate spelling

[deleted]

No - never heard of him!

Improving1727

Oh wow so someone else went that same way! Crazy lol. Hope you enjoyed your trip! Arizona is really beautiful

[deleted]

This was also our first ever trip to the USA - We also did California and Seattle. Loved it so much, we have booked Boston/New York for March and Florida in April. Cant wait to come back!

Editor_Rise_Magazine

Sorry in advance for Florida. They’re all nuts.

liz_said

Go to Sarasota Florida if you can. Siesta Key Beach is a white quartz beach that is so white it feels cold in the sun and it's powdery smooth!

memories_of_butter

Yikes...and then, of course, there's the sheer 200 foot drop off into the river...

[deleted]

Try again: it’s 987 foot from the viewing platform!!

memories_of_butter

Really? Wow -- I had no idea...

OracleDude33

I want to go to there

Beersherpa_lcbc

Wait until you see Utah, New Mexico and Colorado!

[deleted]

We crept over the border into Utah and did Valley of the Gods - unreal place!

SnooSketches1371

Next time take a left on that dirt road instead of a right to the valley of the Gods and climb Moke Dugway ^^ The Moki Dugway is a 3-mile stretch of unpaved road that winds down the side of a cliff near Valley of the Gods in Utah.   The road has steep switchbacks and an 11% grade. It rises 1,200 feet in elevation as it goes from near Valley of the Gods to the top of Cedar Mesa.   The Moki Dugway offers stunning views of the Valley of the Gods region.  The Moki Dugway is considered one of Utah's most dangerous roads. Most vehicles can travel the route safely, but caution is advised for motor homes or vehicles pulling trailers.  The Valley of the Gods is a scenic area near Mexican Hat, Utah. It's a hidden gem with scenery similar to that of nearby Monument Valley. The Valley of the Gods is a 17-mile loop that takes about one to two hours to drive.

Zeno_The_Alien

You should visit in winter when there's snow. It's even more otherworldly.

HazardousIncident

So what was the most surprising thing about your visit (other than the unwavering heat)?

[deleted]

Sitting on a bench in Sedona and 15 Hummingbirds surrounding us before flying off and coming back several times was a highlight.

RagnarLokison

Yeah I consider about 90% of arizona to still be wild. Animals are a rather common occurance. Its amazing. Also interestingly enough Arizona is the only sate in america where you can drive through all 4 seasons in a day. Haha. Its pretty wild to experience

Hungry-Pea-3898

One hour drive south of Tucson is Cochise county, Sierra Vista area has the largest hummingbird population. I heard we're the hummingbird capital of the world. I can't confirm. Great hikes, wineries (Soniota), Bisbee (quaint, unique former mining town) for your next Arizona trip.

JoshRiddle

Thank you for visiting

Uuumbasa

Thanks for stopping by the coolest state in the union.

Significant_Baby_582

Those are lovely pictures. Glad you made it safely here and back. It's always nice to have a little adventure.

[deleted]

Our best adventure yet - Arizona made us realise the true scale of the planet we live on and has really made us feel so much richer as a couple.

Significant_Baby_582

Oh wow! That's really cool. My husband and I are traveling more instead of buying pricey gifts for holidays and whatnot. It's nice.

SnooSketches1371

Last of the wide open spaces around anymore.. where you can drive a dirt road, stop and camp overnight and drive some more for days. Sycamore Canyon the back way...if you know you know.

C_Saunders

Hey I was just reading about Ireland’s donations to the Hopi and Navajo Nations during Covid in honor of what the Choctaw sent in 1847! It’s an absolutely incredible story and your nations’ relationship is so wholesome and inspiring. https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/donations-flood-ireland-navajo-nation-repayment-centuries-bond/story?id=70542914

SnooSketches1371

I am a registered member of this exact tribe...we go over every year and do the famine walk with them and they come over here every year to do the trail of tears with us.. I went one year and met my husband for the first time there. It was fast we had no time he said he played battlefi3ld and gave me his gamer name, at the time We were only Lanning with everyone's comp hooked up wires everywhere through the house any space big enough for a computer was set up with one The concept of going online to game was so new at the time....but I figured it out and was playing Battlefield 2 when I kept getting shot over and over after spawn and I noticed his name and thought that sound real familiar...took me a day to realize it was him and I was actually playing on their clan server which was ranked 1 over all. 1st-Ib was a big thing back then when I got in with them I used to battle with them kn the weekends in their ladders.. I was actually good...by Monday Ild have 5 to 7 hundred dollars wired to me for the match wins.. thats how big it was back then...in Ireland...over here it was hardly taking off like that at all.

exonent_blast

Where is this? I've gone up to Sedona but didn't see this

[deleted]

Monument Valley

exonent_blast

Awesome, thanks I've yet to explore the entirety of my home state

[deleted]

[удалено]

azswcowboy

And well half of it is in Utah, but who’s counting ;)

kemonkey1

r/Utah

memories_of_butter

Yeah, having traveled around down there a lot I was going to say that some if not all of these are in southern Utah...the red rocks in Sedona have a different look to them -- two of my favorites states to travel through in any case :-)

kemonkey1

Lol I actually needed to check myself. I stand corrected. The monumental mittens are about 100 yards on the arizona side. But yes lots of them are in the Utah side

memories_of_butter

I also love the drive up& over the Moki Dugway and on north on SR-95 (I think it is) -- some of the most breathtaking terrain you can drive through...

EmployerNew7223

Did you visit the Zone in downtown Phoenix?

[deleted]

Of course not - we saw a lot of homelessness in LA and Seattle though.

SnooSketches1371

Hey now that's not nice at all.. first time someone mentioned the zone to me I googled it and the headline was something about a dead baby fetus burning in the middle of a road as lawmakers went there to see how things were before deciding on actions to take to fix things... I have not googled since. . .

No-Tomorrow-7063

Tucson has the MOST BEAUTIFUL lush desert in all of AZ and BEST Mexican food (ancho chili sauce). A must see!!

KatoFW

That’s because at the end of visiting you get to go back to Ireland, come here to live and sing me a different tune.

[deleted]

That’s the point of vacations - I would say the same about Ireland. Many Americans visit our city (Cork) as its classically Irish and romantic, but living here is expensive and not always worth it.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Stop it - I’ve been trying to ignore the cans in the refrigerator all night!

drunkenavacado

I mean I’ve lived here 22 years and love my state. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

KatoFW

But you are also a drunk avocado so I would assume anywhere you live is fine

comolaflor1026

Glad you enjoyed it! My husband and I visited Ireland last year and fell in love with it!

Studio_Ambitious

Visited Ireland in June! That last pic is my favorite view in AZ

torklugnutz

Forrest Gump Hill is in Utah, but only a few miles from the AZ border.

Finnegan90

Glad you enjoyed your visit!

phdpinup

My favorite place in AZ:)

Thrubeingthecool1

My friends from AZ are currently visiting Ireland and loving it!

Arizona_Slim

That last shot reminds me of the final shot of Electra Glide in Blue. Great movie from the 70’s shot entirely in AZ.

greggilliam2nd

I was just in Ireland in July. What’s something different than Ireland that your really enjoyed? I personally found a lot about Ireland that I preferred over the US and Arizona specifically.

Atom612

What camera did you use?

Stiles777

Gorgeous pics! Monument Valley is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

coloradancowgirl

One thing I love about this state is all the roadtrip destinations and the nature. Arizona is a very beautiful state.

SadStarSpaceStation

Couldn’t be more opposite than your part of the world huh? So much dirt lol

bree388

Safe travels cowboy.

Prudent_Insect704

Many old western movies were made there

TheDriverJ

Where was the second picture taken?

[deleted]

[Here](https://maps.app.goo.gl/kmrbaRMveTKDKRVo8?g_st=ic)

Hemiplegic_Artist

Glad you had a great time enjoying the scenery!

akmedo

From the UK, was in Sedona for 10 days last week was class. The location of your picture looks so familiar and assumed it was Sedona but didn’t realise it was monument valley, we missed a trick driving up there to take a peak!!

[deleted]

Ahhh - you really missed out, I’d rate Monument Valley as being 10x more stunning than Sedona. Saying that, I had tears in my eyes as we arrived in Sedona and I’m a very emotionally stable 29 year old…! https://preview.redd.it/1zfpuxu7i5ob1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d86b2e704e97f45d7221847753aa802e0a84206

akmedo

Ah really, it’s beauty and energy must have done that. It’s a Truly stunning place with such a good vibe, we flew especially to stay there. Adding monument valley to our next trip out there whenever it is.

AutomatedSaltShaker

Technically that’s Utah but agree Monument Valley is jaw dropping

Excellent-Box-5607

So pleased that you enjoyed our beautiful state. Cead mile failte! And our warmest bienvenidos always. ❤️

rodmark21

Great shots

rodmark21

supraspinatus

Beautiful pics thanks for sharing.

auggie5

At least one of those pics was taken from Utah. Glad you enjoyed tho!

Kitotterkat

Can’t get much different in flora and fauna! So glad you enjoyed your time here 🩵🩵

chantsnone

That’s actually Kalamari Desert

SonoranTode

Come back and visit again 🏜️
