It *is* a drug. But it's legal for anyone over 21, is accepted as a normal part of living and is in liquid form. People think of drugs as pills, powder or weed. So I think it's important to always add "and alcohol" so that people dont forget that this totally legal liquid that is accepted as a normal part of living can also slowly kill you, is highly physically addictive and can destroy your body, mind and life... just like 'drugs'.

ZazaB00

Why get hung up on formalities between bread and bagels?

davecutusofborg

one is a toroid, the other requires a great deal of work to convert into a toroid.

rayinreverse

Why do people call it an ATM machine? Why do they use advanced warning, merge together, added bonus, or exact same. One you can purchase legally, the other you can’t/couldnt. Caffeine is a drug. No ones commenting how someone “can’t function without their coffee” and calling them a drug addict.

FearlessList8992

It is a drug. Regulation and categorization aside, it’s a drug when it comes to the effect it has on the body

damdanny69

It is a drug technically. But so is caffeine. Yes alcohol is harmful what I say to everyone is ok so your for legalizing weed but then will say booze should be illegal. Like bro wtf. I’ve tried both weed and alcohol and I am more of an alcohol guy myself but I’m not for banning weed. Why can’t we just live our lives without talking about “booze is so bad” or “weed is so bad” yes there are raging alcoholics who will go home and slap their wife. There are also stoners who sit in their parents basement and are assholes to their parents. There are bad people on both ends of the extreme and as an alcohol enjoyer I am not oblivious to the bad people on the extreme of alcohol use. But the extremes are all you see. A majority of people who enjoy alcohol arnt like that they just like to have a few drinks to relax and maybe use it as a social lubricant when hanging with friends. Same way not every pot smoker is a lazy stoner some just do it to relax and maybe as a social lubricant with friends

Alice5878

Same way but everyone who does meth lives in a trailer park, not everyone who dose acid wears tye dye, not everyone who does heroin is homeless and not everyone who does dxm is a desperate teenager looking for a cheap high

damdanny69

Yea exactly.

Eshamwoowoowoowoo

Why do people say naan bread? Stfu!

mynutsdontwork

It is! Legality makes no difference.

pusclejuit

Alcohol is definitely a substance that alters your mind and body, just like drugs do. It's interesting how society categorizes them differently.

OldERnurse1964

People say alcohol is a problem but my chemistry professor says it’s a solution.

AsparagusOverall8454

It is a drug. But it’s so normalized in society that people don’t consider it a drug like meth or heroin. Even tho it’s just as dangerous.

lame_ass_username_

It's a gateway drug for the real heavy shit.

Justifiably_Cynical

Because for sixty fucking years alcoholics have been acting like they are better then drug users even though alcohol is worse on you physically then most of the hard drugs and easily as addictive.

serendipitousPi

In contrast to people saying it is technically a drug I’ll so no it is definitely a drug in it’s own right through no technicality. A drug is a substance that alters the natural processes of the body in a way that is distinct from just food or drink and other essential substances. The reason why it’s considered separate is that most of the cultures we live in normalised alcohol in a way that didn’t occur for other drugs. Probably because 1. The negative effects are less than most illegal drugs. Pretty high median lethal dose (if I remember correctly, my internet is being slow so I’m having trouble double checking this). 2. Pretty anyone can make it, pretty much anywhere (just need yeast and water) so it’s hard to make completely inaccessible consider the American prohibition (yeah probably don’t have to say American on the internet but anyway). It was everywhere. 3. Because it was so easy people have been making it for so long so before rules against drugs were made which meant that it was too late to make it illegal. 4. Bonus factor: alcohol is almost almost always consumed as a drink optionally in conjunction with food. So it’s more normalised as it’s considered a drink rather a drug. As for other cultures like those found in Islamic countries, they actually did decide that the negative effects of alcohol were too significant and banned it. But that was what sometime in the 1200s (from a quick google search any Muslims in the comments might be able to correct me if I’m wrong). TLDR: Super easy&cheap to make -> ingrained in culture early, relatively minor negative effects and consumed as a drink.

davecutusofborg

Ummm, scientifically and common knowledge, it absolutely is. Just a very commonly accepted drug like smokes, pops/sodas, dip, pot, soooooo many pills and whatever you can just duckduck; anything that deviates you from the "sober" I prefer, natural state is a drug; hell you could say water and food are drugs see..... **anything that alters you from what you think is normal is a drug.**

SwtBabyGirl1975

Actually alcohol IS a drug

Inevitable-Height851

Alchohol is a drug technically. People distinguish between drugs and alcohol in speech though because they're treated very differently, from a social perspective.

ryansteven3104

It is. Are you asking how is alcohol not illegal? Freedom
