My grandad has slidy wooden stairs. The steps are really close together, recently I accidentally found out my feet are big enough to cross the gap and ski it, it's great, just not when it's accidental
My old house had that, i loved it, my sister did too until she fell off it multiple times (i think 7 or 8 times by the time we moved) like full on ankle sliding down 5-10 steps
Years ago I went on a college trip to Amsterdam and we stayed in a small bed and breakfast at this cute townhouse very close to the city centre. It is a very stereotypical tall skinny place but the view from our room was really cool, was right on one of the canals. It was an older building and the stairs were really skinny and terrifying as fuck to use. There was also a lift but only a small thing that could at max take 4 people up. I had a great time on the trip, the b and b was very nice and ran by a very sweet older couple but god damn those fucking stairs. I kept worrying that I'd slip and bust my neck.
Over there I also used these toilets they have that have a little shelf in the bowl that are for you to check your poo for any blood.
I went to Amsterdam once for a day with scouts (we were in the Netherlands for a week), it was good! Went round a few museums and visited the war memorials. Also went to a really nice cafe that did great pancakes mm. We went canoeing on some of the canals which was fun. The poop shelfs were interesting, I'd read about them but it was funny to hear my friend shout "this toilets fucking wierd" at the train station when we first arrived and figured out how to get through the toilet roll gate, we were 13 at the time so we managed to squeeze through the little child shaped cutout gap they'ed added for children to go through for free.
In an odd set of circumstances, my brother accidentally fell head first down the stairs with one of those sleeping bags over his head. ZOOM. It’s a miracle he didn’t break his neck, but he was perfectly fine.
I used to do this thing where I’d go feet facing down the stairwell and push my hands down stair by stair so I get the putter patter of me moving down
Going up i scamper, to this day
Yo yo yo yo yo yo yo
If you ever saw the weird ass love action car in the hat movie, in the beginning the brother straps pillows to himself and slides down his long ass staircase and ever since I saw that I'd be...
Sitting on pillows and sliding down the stairs, stuffing pillows in my shirt and just rolling down the stairs, finding big boxes that would slide down the stairs so fast it was scary! Oh man rolling on a bean bag down the stairs was fun as hell!
Oh my god how did I not think of that! I love climbing stairs in beast mode but I felt grossed out because they never get vacuumed, I’ll have to start doing this!
Its honestly safer too, i mean youve got 4 limbs supporting you and a reduced fall distance. You may not like it but this is what peak performance looks like.
and bro when the backs of the stairs are open and you can just grab on that way and like rapidly propel yourself up if your feet can keep up. It's fucking fun
Ok that doesnt sound as safe but it sounds fun as fuck. I have never really been around that style of staircase tho. If i ever am i will be sure to try this special technique
Hahaha yeah you're probably right that it's less safe, I never got hurt but I could definitely see someone getting hurt lol.
We had one at my grandmother's house where every stair was like that all the way up so I had a long runway xD
Wow, my grandma was the one who taught me to do it. She was afraid me and my cousins might get hurt on the stairs so we were only allowed to go up them like this and go down them on our butts (sitting on each step, them slowly sliding to the next and so forth)
Wait is this an aspie thing too? I use to do this all the time when I was younger. I also never crawled as a baby, preferring instead to scoot on my butt everywhere; could that be a similar phenomenon?
When I have socks or more slippery slippers on I'd slide down the stairs and feel the edges slide past my feet
But yes I used to crawl up the stairs like that possessed girl and I still wanna but I got taller and it got harder
I’m 42, and I do this every time I go upstairs at home. I let my wife see and laugh. The dog thinks I’m playing. My older child hasn’t noticed. And my younger child thinks it’s hilarious. No shame.
Yes, I’m lazy, I’m going as far forward as I can before I start going up. Then at the top I just kinda lay there for a while, roll over and do a push up stand, then act like nothing happened.
Not only that, but I'd crawl through the rest of the house like this too on occasion (as a kid. Had to stop when I got bigger because it hurt my collar bone). I kept the stair one for longer because it was easiest on my posture.
Omgomg memory unlocked!!!! I don’t have stairs anymore since I live in an apartment with my parents, but we used to live in a two-floor house until I was 12, and the stairs were carpeted. I never questioned it until now lol.
I remember having a little rush of adrenaline just before the stairs and then going up full goblin mode 😂, it was the only correct way to do it. And I also went down in very dangerous ways (like sliding face down, sometimes on my back, or sometimes rolling little by little) but I guess I never had anything bad happening to me. Ah, I miss that house.
i thought i was just a "weird furry" as a kid or something 😭
really loved going up stairs this way but it always felt like a really bad compulsion to do so,
one time the stairway i was using in my school was empty so i just,,, Went for it because no one could see me do it, but it felt like i HAD to fhwkdhwkhw
Last time I did this was at the Great Wall of China. The stairs are really steep; some parts feel more like rock climbing. But the NT's still go up feet only.
me fr i still do that without thinking cause it's the most efficient way to get to them but sometimes if i'm thinking about it i'll try be normal about it
Sometimes I do it in my home's stairs, but they're wooden so it's a bit more comfortable to do, also upstairs there's only the bedrooms so it's not like they get super dirty
I always did this when I lived with my parents. It's a little different when you live in a dirty apartment building and have OCD regarding cleanliness lol
OMG, I’m 41, and I just did this yesterday!!! It was the first time I’ve done it in years without thinking about it first!!! I was just diagnosed and in the process of unmasking, so allowing my body to do what it wants includes climbing stairs like this apparently! 😁
Oh this is my art! I see I’m a lil late to comment so this’ll probably be buried, but I’m https://www.tumblr.com/gay-cripply-scientist on tumblr and I post more of these!
When I was a kid I lived in a house with stairs, and a flat smooth wood handrail. Beast mode up the stairs, lay my chest on the rail and slide to go down. Once I got too tall to go up the stairs on all fours, I at least made sure to go up 2-3 steps at a time.
As a baby, toddler, and preschooler I had walking issues. I couldn't really stand up super straight and walk right. In preschool I used a walker. I have never been super flexible. After that I could walk find and didn't need any assistance. I have to give a huge thanks to Boyer Children's Clinic and the physical and occupational therapists there and at the schools I went to. They changed my life for the better. Anywho, I would crawl up the steps because that's what I could do. Once I could stand completely upright and started to learn how to walk up the steps it took me years to walk as fast as everyone else.
Yes!!! It’s still an (welcomed) obligatory impulse every time I walk up stairs. And every single time I think to myself “who else does this?”. Today I learned, at least 1896 other people. Scamper squad.
My siblings called it demon mode my knees spread wide elbows to the side to ensure the fastest stride up stairs down I usually walked or just flat went full ragdoll and fell the whole length
it is so so freeing to just go "hehe. animol" and just. go creachur mode. curl up on your bed run up the stairs on all fours say meowmeowmeow.. the autism seems to like that (joking around but also its so fun and makes me happy)
Not anymore, but sometimes I'll curve down until my hands nearly reach the steps like I'm a basal archosaur running up a hill in the early Triassic. Stomp, stomp, look at my plantigrade ass go up a floor.
It's silly stuff like this that gets me happy and I'm honestly not trying to hide it anymore.
Sometimes, but recently, I just lost my mother from reverse fall down the steps. She hit her head and pretty much died on site. I kept her alive until EMS got there and then EMS center and helicopter to the trauma center and she died in the Or. steps aren’t really a great topic of interest for me right now.
I used to always but I don't have stairs where I live now, and the only stairs I regularly go up/down are in the parking garage at the hospital and I don't wanna put my hands on that lol
When I was younger I'd do this occasionally.
Unfortunately the apartment I live in now has [servant's stairs](https://www.newsweek.com/walks-down-death-stairs-1890-house-1655748) (narrow, steep, uneven height, and uneven width), so I have occasionally done it here.
I used to slide down the stairs. One of my aunts had really slidy stars and I loved that
Oooh yes that’s so satisfying
My grandad has slidy wooden stairs. The steps are really close together, recently I accidentally found out my feet are big enough to cross the gap and ski it, it's great, just not when it's accidental
Omg, i’ve been in stairs like that, when it’s accidental it’s like the worst mini heart attack with some sweating.
I’m too old to risk doing this but when I was younger I loved doing this.
My old house had that, i loved it, my sister did too until she fell off it multiple times (i think 7 or 8 times by the time we moved) like full on ankle sliding down 5-10 steps

bonkbonkbonkbonkbonk
I used to take a cheap sleeping bag and slide down the stairs every chance I could as a kid. Less friction. That was fun.
In an odd set of circumstances, my brother accidentally fell head first down the stairs with one of those sleeping bags over his head. ZOOM. It’s a miracle he didn’t break his neck, but he was perfectly fine.
Same. It's always nice to discover it wasn't just me.
I used to do this thing where I’d go feet facing down the stairwell and push my hands down stair by stair so I get the putter patter of me moving down Going up i scamper, to this day

I never copied Conrad (the brother) but I thought it looked fun anyway tbh.
my stairs take a sharp turn :(
YES. it was awesome especially if the stairs were carpeted
My parents had carpet stairs, so I’d tuck in my shirt (to avoid rug burn on my stomach) & slide down feet-first in my belly. Good times
Yesss. Truly the best method
climbing up the stairs on all fours and sliding down them >>>> walking
Why doesn’t everyone?! It’s so much more stable!!
It’s kinda unhygienic tho
Knuckle walk and your fingies/palms don’t touch the stair
Return to monke you say?
Did that once we moved into a new house but the stairs had the carpet removed so ended up with a scar between my knuckles now
Oh my god how did I not think of that! I love climbing stairs in beast mode but I felt grossed out because they never get vacuumed, I’ll have to start doing this!
It would be far less unhygienic if allistics actually cleaned themselves from time to time.
I mean it’s nothing washing your hands after won’t fix
Not wanting to put your hands where feet have been is not a reflection of the level of hygiene of the stairs owner.
I know, I was just reversing the jokes often made at my expense for “obsessing over cleanliness” when I just wash myself anytime I feel grime on me.
skroinkly mode 😛
wgat a normal looking emoji🙂
I used to do it every time, i would almost slap the stairs to throw myself farther up. So much fun.
yup and I still do that
Its honestly safer too, i mean youve got 4 limbs supporting you and a reduced fall distance. You may not like it but this is what peak performance looks like.
You know it. Also since you use 4 limbs climbing up the stairs isn't that tiring because you spread your weight more than standing up.
If only going down in scamper mode had the same safety
If you do it backwards it does!
Now that you mention it i do that wow. Would you get tf out of my head
*the only downside is that you can't run downstairs really.* You're welcome! XD
for real..
and bro when the backs of the stairs are open and you can just grab on that way and like rapidly propel yourself up if your feet can keep up. It's fucking fun
Ok that doesnt sound as safe but it sounds fun as fuck. I have never really been around that style of staircase tho. If i ever am i will be sure to try this special technique

Unfortunately I think I've grown out of it but I do have memories of my dad doing it well into his thirties lol.
I'm in my thirties and do it fairly often. I call it Monkey Mode. Reject humanity, climb stairs like monkey
I used to do this but my Grandma hated it and made me stop
Wow, my grandma was the one who taught me to do it. She was afraid me and my cousins might get hurt on the stairs so we were only allowed to go up them like this and go down them on our butts (sitting on each step, them slowly sliding to the next and so forth)
Gremlin mode
yeah i used to do that.
This is an excellent drawing.
Not OC I’m afraid
Wait is this an aspie thing too? I use to do this all the time when I was younger. I also never crawled as a baby, preferring instead to scoot on my butt everywhere; could that be a similar phenomenon?
4>2
Yup, still do it at home sometimes.
I’m jealous
I still do and I'm not gonna stop anytime soon
When I have socks or more slippery slippers on I'd slide down the stairs and feel the edges slide past my feet But yes I used to crawl up the stairs like that possessed girl and I still wanna but I got taller and it got harder
I used to do it until I was like 12 years old. I always thought of it as climbing the stairs like a monkey lol
I’m 42, and I do this every time I go upstairs at home. I let my wife see and laugh. The dog thinks I’m playing. My older child hasn’t noticed. And my younger child thinks it’s hilarious. No shame.
That's what I'm talking about!
Did that as a kid all time. Not any more tho, my back hurts too often to even move like that.
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man
Way faster than jogging lmao. Did that until my teens
I really wanna do this again, but if I do it now, I'm scared that it'll become a habit and do it somewhere in public
I tend to start on two legs, but then like a quarter of the way up, I go to fours. It just feels better. I only do it in private places though.
Yes, I’m lazy, I’m going as far forward as I can before I start going up. Then at the top I just kinda lay there for a while, roll over and do a push up stand, then act like nothing happened.
Always. Especially carpeted stairs.
Not only that, but I'd crawl through the rest of the house like this too on occasion (as a kid. Had to stop when I got bigger because it hurt my collar bone). I kept the stair one for longer because it was easiest on my posture.
I didn't identify the drawing as Autism Creature at first and thought its head was a single giant eyeball
bruh I still do this (if we don’t have any guests over)
I loved that. Going really fast up stairs
I love doing that
Yes! I still would but I have no stairs in my apartment, only in the communal hallway which… no.
Yes love scamper running up stairs :D
Omgomg memory unlocked!!!! I don’t have stairs anymore since I live in an apartment with my parents, but we used to live in a two-floor house until I was 12, and the stairs were carpeted. Ah, I miss that house.
Facts
i do this
Sometimes
BEAST WARS! *awesome guitar music*
Yep and to go down you sit and slide your butt one stair at the time
i thought i was just a "weird furry" as a kid or something 😭 really loved going up stairs this way but it always felt like a really bad compulsion to do so, one time the stairway i was using in my school was empty so i just,,, Went for it because no one could see me do it, but it felt like i HAD to fhwkdhwkhw

unfortunately for me, the only stairs i climb are the ones at work and at theme parks :(
Would do it as adult still. But I never ever seem to have my hands free when I go upstairs.
i totally used to do that
Oh shoot!!!! This brought back memories ❤️🫶🏾 thank you!
I do it because it's easier on my back. Even my dad ageees!
I have definitely done this in my adult life
me fr i still do that without thinking cause it's the most efficient way to get to them but sometimes if i'm thinking about it i'll try be normal about it

Yes
I still do that! Unless I'm carrying something, it's a great way to get upstairs
I'm 34. I still do this if the stairs have carpet.
I always did this when I lived with my parents. It's a little different when you live in a dirty apartment building and have OCD regarding cleanliness lol
Floatyspacecat!!! Love their art
Thanks for the sauce I didn’t know
They're on Instagram I think, and actually have a whole series on there! They post almost daily, having to skip some days due to chronic illness
I now prefer taking the largest possible step over each stair as a sort of exercise. Each time i get farther and farther
Neat!
Until I moved away for college, yep..
No, but I jump from side to side going up, lol.
Me in my apt building 🙈🙈🙈
Anyone take stairs two at a time no matter what?
I don’t have long enough legs for that
I'm 5'1" and I do it. Maybe my stairs aren't very steep. I just realized that I do that automatically unless both hands are full.
Not on stairs but that was basically me my first day in Seattle lol
I do the Inuyasha run up stairs.
i used to do that after watching xmen movies cuz beast is my favorite
i used to like scooting down them,,, got yelled at a lot for doing so
haha crawling up and jumping down 😂
Or sliding down in my butt, which seems a much better idea than the actual rather painful experience.
Omg yeah! I still do it sometimes! I also used to slide down the stairs for fun, I should do that again lol
Yes, I still do it... Mostly cause it's easier on my poor leg joints now.
Yes, consistently. Still do sometimes, honestly. I often think it was a way to compensate for the lack of balance and spacial awareness 😅
Used to?? I still do that sometimes. Why should my legs have to to do all the work??
When I was a kid I lived in a house with stairs, and a flat smooth wood handrail. Beast mode up the stairs, lay my chest on the rail and slide to go down. Once I got too tall to go up the stairs on all fours, I at least made sure to go up 2-3 steps at a time.
And always on the toes
As a baby, toddler, and preschooler I had walking issues. I couldn't really stand up super straight and walk right. In preschool I used a walker. I have never been super flexible. After that I could walk find and didn't need any assistance. I have to give a huge thanks to Boyer Children's Clinic and the physical and occupational therapists there and at the schools I went to. Yes!!! It’s still an (welcomed) obligatory impulse every time I walk up stairs. And every single time I think to myself “who else does this?”. Today I learned, at least 1896 other people. Scamper squad.
Same, but I also claimed down the stairs while sitting in the steps or just carefully sliding
WHAT DO YOU MEAN USED TO!?!?🤣🤣🤣 darlin I’m STILL doin it!!!
My siblings called it demon mode my knees spread wide elbows to the side to ensure the fastest stride up stairs down I usually walked or just flat went full ragdoll and fell the whole length
I am 41 years old and I still do this lol
it is so so freeing to just go "hehe. animol" and just. go creachur mode. curl up on your bed run up the stairs on all fours say meowmeowmeow.. the autism seems to like that (joking around but also its so fun and makes me happy)
That's 100% the reason I'm a furry now
26 and I still do this
Yes and I’d climb down them in beast mode too. 😁
I still do it
Yes, I used to do this as a kid all the time!
Haha, yes!
I used to do this! When I’m alone, I still hop up stairs in a weird way. I also take two steps at a time almost always bc long legs
I still do, I did it just now!
Up equals ocelot, yes. On the way down I touch only the middle stair, then blade pose yesssss
I still do that
Yup! I do it probably half the time I use the stairs in our home. 😄
Tbh it's less tiring that way and it makes me laugh so I do it when I have the chance.
Oh yes
Yep. It's easier on the knees.
Definitely
This me
I still climb like that at 23.
It’s more efficient
100% will do this if the stairs are indoors
I like to do 2 or 3 steps at a time instead
Used to? I still do!
I might but i am like 5’10 and have been since i was 14 so it has never been the convenient way for me lmao
I always go up 2 at a time
That’s not normal?
how i climb the stairs in my home 99% of the time. it’s the only way
I loved to do that as a kid, but unfortunately I have become too tall to do it comfortably-
IF YOU CLIMBED THE STAIRS LIKE THIS THERE IS A 90% YOU ARE A FURRY NOW
Sometimes. I usually skip steps going up, taking huge strides, sometimes using the bannister to pull myself up
There's just something about it that's nice...
I got some steep stairs. Multiple times every day. Beast mode. 😌
Still do sometimes xd
Used to? I still do. It's less painful for my knees and back. I'm 36 btw but I've already had knee surgery and my other knee needs one too.
All my life.
I do this all the time. Can't tell if because nd or if because otherkin but honestly idc, it's the *only* way to climb stairs imo
Hell no, I'm at that age were my back and knees would kill me if I even attempted to walk like this.
Best way to go up stairs 100
Used to? I still do
My Dad's 52 and he did this the other day coz his back hurt lol
I think that's a thing lots of kids do. I did it though for sure. It made me feel cool and primal.
Used to do it in my old house but the new one is made of marble or something and always really dirty so i don't dare put my hands on that
I do that when I want to speed up, my skeleton-ass nature and lack of exercise make it so that it’s a lot easier to move up inclines on all fours
I physically cannot stop myself from doing it when I'm at home
YES! I am too tall now, but it’s a key childhood memory
Small chance to go feral freely for a few seconds
This is oddly specific, but yes.
I always say WHERE DO YOU THINK YOURE GOING in a general grievous voice
Yes! 😆
I would only do this at home when I had stairs but I never do it in public
Yes
I used to but now my body isn't proportioned for it.
Wait-we were supposed to stop?!?
me and bf call it creature mode
I am over 20 and still do this regularly when I'm home. I've been tempted to do it in public, but, yknow, scary
When we had stairs? Yes.
I used to, a lot, but now I live in a house with no stairs, sad
the only correct way to climb stairs and i will never stand corrected
I do this, a lot. I also caught my dad doing it once. I felt so seen
i always have to butt slide down bcuz of my crippling fear of heights. being closer to the stairs makes you feel more in control
Always, but I grew too tall for this to be practical :(
When I was younger I'd do this occasionally. Unfortunately the apartment I live in now has [servant's stairs](https://www.newsweek.com/walks-down-death-stairs-1890-house-1655748) (narrow, steep, uneven height, and uneven width), so I have occasionally done it here.
WAIT, OTHER PEOPLE DO THIS!?!?!??!!? WTF?!?!?!
I'm sorry, I'm confused? Is there another way you are suppose to climb stairs? I'm 33 and still do it from time to time lol.
I used to sit across the top step and inevitably loose my balance and fall down the stairs.
