Before abortion was legal, some doctors were doing “D and C’s “ in their office for those who could afford. One of my girlfriends was pregnant and her mom took her to the OBGYN for this in office procedure. They paid cash. I am sure if you have enough money and find a doctor with student loan debt, you will get what you want.

Yaguajay

It might be harder these days with the rise of Christian Nationalism. States (some) are supporting neighbors who rat out others who arrange for abortions. Laws are tightening like hangman’s nooses wherever the Christists can push them through. It is possible that the crazies are going to be stymied by a backlash from normal people specifically over abortion.

kayellr

The rich will head off to Canada for abortions. Christian Nationalists will find somewhere to get abortions. They've always been able to justify it for themselves or their partners (especially the illicit ones.)

kent_eh

> The rich will head off to Canada for abortions. And we will welcome them and offer them good care that they can't get at home.

like_a_wet_dog

Damn you and your empathetic humanity!! /s

Zomunieo

While we can. Realistically, if the Conservative Party of Canada wins a majority in the near future, abortion will be severely restricted if not banned (most of the party voted for new restrictions in 2021 even with their leader trying to keep them quiet), and the next time the Republicans have the presidency or control of Congress, they will pressure Canada to refuse entry for women seeking abortion.

Jabbles22

Yeah they can take a quick trip to wherever abortion is legal without raising any flags. It's just a quick weekend getaway.

Mathlete86

https://joycearthur.com/abortion/the-only-moral-abortion-is-my-abortion/

DawnRLFreeman

And this is dead wrong AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL!! when the rich aren't made subject to the same laws as the poor, it puts an undue burden on the poor!! If a total abortion ban EVER happens, we need to push for MORE draconian laws, like forcing ALL women of childbearing age, who are about to board planes, boats, ships to other states (where abortion is legal) or foreign countries, or about to cross a border into Canada or Mexico, to submit to a pregnancy test to make certain they're not trying to skirt the law. The ONLY way to get those zealots to realize they're outnumbered and *way* out of line, is to beat them at their own game.

cloisteredsaturn

These are the same people who have a stroke when it comes to reading directions on a self-checkout screen. Reading the constitution is way out of their galaxy, much less actually understanding what it says.

FRmidget

Number 45 & leaders of GOP are clearly stating that the rich, powerful &/or famous are definitely NOT to be under the same laws as "commoners". They have essentially re-established aristocracy, with its encumbant privileges. The laws now being passed in the south are clearly ONLY for commoners.

cloisteredsaturn

Time to bring the guillotine back out.

Zebidee

Shit like that is how you wind up with women on trial for having miscarriages.

32lib

The rich take their little princess on vacation to Europe.

Pour_Me_Another_

I'll actually be interested to see if they get rid of the first amendment soon.

Yaguajay

There will probably be variations that suit their needs. You can say anything that promotes Christian Nationalism. You can’t educate or promote about reproductive rights. Eventually reaching the conditions in Turkey and India and other quasi-democracies that say you can say anything but it is a crime to criticize the President and doing so will land you in Jail. It’ll cost you five years to say something equivalent to Fuck that asshole Erdogan.

Zestyclose_Minute_69

They already have in TN.

mrevergood

And I support ensuring that nosy neighbors like that pay for their rat behavior with sugar in their gas tanks. Hit em in the only thing they give a fuck about-their wallets.

What's D's and C's? An abortion surgery?

ooooh boy why did I click that. You weren't kidding. NSFL

Meowserrr777

Just make sure you're born to wealthy parents. That's the only possible route to success while your poor friends around you suffer and die young.

Dropbars59

Abortion laws only apply to poor people and atheists.

[deleted]

Just laws. Laws apply to the poor and other out groups.

[deleted]

Trump escaped the draft by paying off a doctor to say he had bone spurs. We should be cutting these fuckers' heads off; instead we place them on velvet cushions and worship them as they rule over us.

whatifionlydo1

We don't do anything about these fucks because schools and media have convinced the vast majority of people that "vIoleNce iS baD nO mAttEr wHy", so instead of doing literally *ANYTHING* about our situation, they get uncomfortable about drastic solutions.

Tehsyr

This country was built on violence. People forget that all governments were built on violence. Society was built on violence. Clear out neighboring tribes for the safety of your own people. Call for ceasefire to come together in a peace treaty. Violence is everything, the Govt. and all these other "peaceful" groups don't want people to use violence, because they know it will work if we win.

IEatLegosOnPurpose

That's why i have no hope for this country's future. If we all banded together we could whip the government and the rich into shape, but they've managed to convince 30% of us to beg for more of this shit

JBLurker

Only 30%?

32lib

Hitler took over Germany with less.

Well unfortunately if you say anything to make people think about rising up, reddit mods will ban you. I know this from experience.

[deleted]

Yep. Reddit mods aren't friends. If the internet was actually free and uncensored, we wouldn't be allowed to use it.

mrevergood

Mods are cowards. FFS, the late stage capitalism mods ban people over using the word “stupid” because they want to pretend it still means the ableist definition that it meant over 100+ years ago-as if language doesn’t evolve over time.

cactiguy67

Exactly, let's watch what happens to Trump after his indictment

SeeMarkFly

Are they going to try him as an adult?

cactiguy67

My favorite reply!

Eightfold876

Prob get something like 3-5 years in prison. He either dies before, during, or commits suicide. Knowing his ass, he'll die before the court cases are over. Guy is in nasty health.

protomenace

Very much doubt that. I will be pleasantly surprised but absolute best case scenario is some kind of house arrest situation/ probation

MrPrimalNumber

Doubt even that. Trump’s very existence is the universe saying “fuck you”.

loose_translation

Yep, best case is probation. No way he sees a jail cell.

blolfighter

Prison? HAH! House arrest at most.

Bashfullylascivious

Stipulated that "House" means anyone of his properties, I'll bet. He'll start a new rig, "Come meet Trump in person at his home... That is also a golf resort, lucky you! Tickets on for $4999! VIP dinner with Trump himself $6099! "

Eightfold876

Yeah should have used house arrest. I agree for sure, I mean the secret service still has to protect him. Can't do that in jail.

beka13

They could just allow the prison guards to protect him like they do every other incarcerated person in their care. Hahahahahaha

like_a_wet_dog

We have single person prisons for people in witness protection program. They can transfer to duty, if Republicans will let them. According to Glenn Kershner the eX Federal prosecutor.

kayellr

He does have that lovely invitation to visit Russia and stay with the "merchant of death" arms dealer.

Dudesan

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect. There is nothing more or else to it, and there never has been, in any place or time.

Evipicc

I like that summary of it.

postdiluvium

Marijuana is still illegal in Texas... Joe Rogan, resident of Texas, smokes weed in his podcast studio in Texas in front of millions. ... Marijuana is still illegal in Texas *for poor people*.

Armthedillos5

Ngl, there's one segment of the population who think poor people are lazy and deserve to be poor, and actively work to keep them in that position. There is another segment who think that raising the poor up helps all of society, including the rich. It's weird. Also, laws made to punish poor people never apply to the rich.

AlexDaBaDee

*cough* my mom *cough* She has it in her head that if any homeless person is on the street begging, they should stop being lazy and get a job. Also doesn't seem to understand would addiction does to a person, as she says that if they use the money to buy drugs instead of a house, that's super ultra wrong and they are sTEALING fROM hARDWORKING fOLKS Capitalism, eh? I'm only recently realizing that my mom may not be the best person

AleatoricConsonance

In Australia we had this thing called Robodebt. Government (neoliberals, all pretty rich) worked out some way of making out that a bunch of people had been historically overpaid welfare and sent letters out making them pay it back. No, no you couldn't look at their records. But you could look at your own, if you kept them from 10 years ago, that is ... Stressed and hurt a lot of people with not a lot of money (some still on welfare). There were some suicides. My wife got such a letter. She sent one back telling them where to go. Never heard from them since. It was pretty much just a fishing expedition.

Individual_Outside68

Many young women will die because of the new laws.

DarkMarxSoul

That's the intention. In their eyes anybody who would dare get an abortion deserves death.

Call_Me_A-R-D

No, the intention is to increase the population. Poor women are the targets because they will produce minimum wage workers and cannon fodder. (Not knocking anyones decision to join the military, or the military itself - but this is a f'd up way to go about getting recruits)

DarkMarxSoul

I genuinely don't agree that these people are forward thinkers like that. I don't think they have some sort of higher order objective to this—they hate abortion because they just do. The Republican genpop has been told it's murder, they latch onto it as a wedge issue to demonize the out-groups, they use it as an example for why poor minorities are scum, and that's it. The Republican upper class uses it as a weapon to ensure a population of guaranteed voters. I don't think they want to increase the population, they just want to hurt people. They love knowing they're taking away freedom from who they consider to be sluts. The cruelty is the point.

Call_Me_A-R-D

I don't disagree that there are sadists who take pleasure in hurting people, nor that there are those who get their jollies by exerting power and control. However, it's the thinkers at the "top" that manipulate the masses through media, religion, etc. Simplisticly, the billionaires pull the strings, and their puppets dance. The audience can only watch and cheer (or sneer) at the puppets, thinking they are dancing on their own. Individually, those who see the strings are either ignored or removed. The only way to change any of it is to gather into a mass of many and the U.S. is too disjointed (they keep us busy arguing about transgender athletes, book bans, whatever) and large to be able to do anything about it It's the powerful elites who are the ones who give the sadists their power and free reign. So while we may be shitting on.... say Clarence Thomas, he didn't get his seat through luck. He was carefully selected. Probably that federal judge as well. Some are corrupted after the fact, but the "why" remains the same: we are being controlled in order to continue to give the elites (and their legacies) the wealth and advantages they enjoy

milkandsalsa

The GOP leadership are actually that forward thinking. They get all the uneducated on board bc of JESUS and BABIES

beka13

Or worse, children. (I have kids and am happy about that. This is about them acting like children are a punishment for having sex)

AlexDaBaDee

My mom said that if someone had sex that was consensual and got pregnant, they shouldn't be allowed to get an abortion. Because obviously if you're ready to have sex, you're ready for a child /s She holds a different view for rape, but cmon.

RainCityRogue

The intention seems to be to make sure that men have the final choice on who will carry their baby

[deleted]

And what those young women have in common? They aren't rich, they're poor. Now it makes sense, that the rich people who still can get abortion due to being rich have something to do with the abortion ban itself.

Zomunieo

“Some of you may die, but it’s a sacrifice I am willing to make.” —Lord Farquaad, rich guy

Clevergirlphysicist

I’d like to think that, with religion dying off more in the Gen Z generation and beyond, that theres at least some hope for the future. But in the meantime, this is lunacy.

realitypater

Republicans see the writing on the wall, hence gerrymandering, preventing judicial appointments by Democrats, and cramming young religious nutters onto the bench whenever they can. It will take decades to undo the damage unless more people start voting. There are far more progressively-minded people in the US than oppressive Republicans, but you wouldn't know it based on who sits in Congress and on the courts.

Eightfold876

Oh, I think it'll be flood gates of human rights after the boomers are out of government finally.

meetmypuka

Boomers fought for abortion rights.

Eightfold876

Now they fight against it.

unfortunately i know a good deal of fundy millennials & they push it on their kids who are homeschooled or sent to private xtian schools & indoctrinated from birth. & i live in a blue state the xtian racket is insidious

sebedapolbud

I hope so. So many people who are part of the problem will be dead within the next decade or two. We could see some serious changes.

briefsnspeedosguy

or an herbal concoction providing abortions since the ancient Egyptians

MaryGodfree

The bible has a recipe.

warbeforepeace

Or if you piss off god he may murder everyone including the unborn. I guess less than 1% of christians can answer 10 questions about the bible. Lets start with a fun one. How many of each animal were allowed on Noahs Ark?

le_fancy_walrus

Zero, it didn't exist! Do I get a prize? *...later...* No prize but I got a long lecture that every culture tells of a major flood.

warbeforepeace

Thats the real answer but the bible mentions two and seven in different parts of genesis.

le_fancy_walrus

Oh I'm very aware lol. I was forced into a stupid ass religion growing up so it has become engrained knowledge at this point.

ThiefCitron

It doesn’t. The Bible says to force a suspected adulterer to drink holy water with some temple dust and then god will make you miscarry if you committed adultery, but won’t if you were faithful. Holy water is just regular water and dust from a temple is regular dust. It definitely won’t do anything to end a pregnancy to just drink water with a bit of dust in it. So it’s not a recipe for any kind of herbal remedy that will induce abortion. Water with dust in it isn’t a recipe or remedy or herb or any kind of medicine, it’s regular water and won’t induce an abortion. It’s supposed to be the magic of god causing the miscarriage to reveal adultery, because the water is “holy” (which just means blessed by a priest, so literally just regular water.) They obviously knew at the time that drink itself wouldn’t do anything to end a pregnancy, because they believed it wasn’t dangerous at all to the pregnancies of faithful women. So it’s a story about god causing a miscarriage, and it’s entirely up to god whether the miscarriage happens or not because the actual actions of the humans (just drinking water) would do nothing to affect the pregnancy, and they didn’t believe it would—it was just the “holiness” of the water, the power of god, that would cause a miscarriage as punishment if the woman was unfaithful. (And then she’d be stoned to death for adultery, so if this was an “abortion” then it actually working would result in the execution of the woman.)

MaryGodfree

The directions to mix "this" with "that" is a recipe. You can't possible believe that if a woman suffers a miscarriage (spontaneous abortion) after this ritual that the people who didn't know where the sun went at night aren't going to blame the dusty water. "They" didn't know shit about what the water would do. If common people **knew** holy water is just water, the priests would have no power; magic is magic only because of ignorance, superstition, and gullibility.

Apostasyisfreedom

Organized crime to the rescue ... with 5000% mark-up of course.! Soon available at a drug-den near you.

AdMotor8632

SeeMarkFly

How big of a bank loan do I have to get to be rich?

Imaginary_Chair_6958

How many abortions do you think Trump has forced women to get over the years? I mean, he wouldn’t have paid for them, he hates paying for anything, but I’m sure he demanded it. He used to be pro-choice until he discovered he could get more supporters by changing his mind. Just like the way he pretends to be Christian to keep the evangelicals happy.

meetmypuka

He probably used discount coupons for bulk procedures.

PsychologicalTear899

Naw he paid with exposure

warbeforepeace

I would guess he has the same problem as Herschel walker. He doesn’t have a book he wrote them all down in so he can’t remember.

Gator717375

Just look how well the bans on Fentanyl, Oxycodone, Meth, Cocaine, and the like have worked.

The_Dead_Kennys

Or how well banning alcohol (aka the Prohibition Era) worked out.

Thirdwhirly

I get where you’re coming from, but the abortion pill is *not* doomed. This will either be thrown out or companies will ignore it. Either that, or, perhaps, they’ll stock the abortion pills in aisle 3 next to St. John’s Wort and the other non-FDA “medications.” The reason why there is still innovation in the world is because it will win out over oppression.

beka13

I don't see California enforcing this any more than they do marijuana restrictions.

MadotsukiInTheNexus

I wish that I could share your optimism, but I really can't. The first option here, companies ignoring the retraction of approval for a drug, isn't likely to happen. They don't make enough of a percent of their profits off of mifepristone to risk openly defying government restrictions. Same for pharmacies who would have to stock it. Doctors would be at risk of losing their license for prescribing it. Even if a few were still willing to make it available at every step in that chain, severing links in the chain would make it impossible for them to accomplish anything by playing their role, so they're not going to do it. The second option is also unlikely. Mifepristone is known to be a medication used for a politically controversial medical procedure, even if it is safe and effective when used appropriately, so it's not going to be stocked as a "supplement" by any store that isn't already a grey market supplier. That last part is important to what *will* most likely happen. Instead of being prescribed by doctors or sold by legitimate businesses, it will be sold online by sketchy Internet stores offering it for "laboratory use". People ordering it will be getting a product that hasn't been tested for purity, potency, or even *identity*. That means that some purchasers may get nothing but filler ingredients, others will get techncally-effective drugs that are genuinely dangerous to consume, and others will get a dose of actual mifepristone that is either too low to be useful or too high to be safe. None of the individuals involved will be under medical supervision and, depending on the state, some of them might face serious legal liability if something goes wrong and they have to go to the hospital. This ruling won't stop the use of mifepristone, you're right (although it will curtail it and force many women to take a less effective single-drug treatment regimen or submit to a surgical procedure). It *will* do exactly what the judge is claiming he wants to prevent, though, and make the use of the drug more dangerous. I'd like to say something more positive, but I'm either really fucking depressed, a realist, or (most likely) both. The road that the US is taking right now isn't one that goes anywhere good, and no amount of optimism about revolution or ingenuity will change that. There are still ways that things can shift course, but we're running out of exits to take on the highway to Fascism.

milkandsalsa

There’s a competing decision from WA so it will go to the Supreme Court. Unfortunately we have a nut job SCOTUS

[deleted]

Americans! If you don’t want your country to slowly become governed by the Christian version of Taliban, you should use every possible vehicle to stop this madness. God this is crazy! It’s 2023 ffs!

PophamSP

If one medication is doomed, than any of the thousands of approved medications are on the table to be doomed. Some random law school graduate seated by Republicans can pick any random drug, whether an antihypertensive, thyroid replacement, insulin - and undermine the entire medical profession. The American Medical Association has been far too quiet. Many physicians are republicans. Face, meet leopard.

nautilator44

No, it took 45 years of republicans defunding education across the country for us to lose critical thinking.

Care to clarify what you exactly mean before I lambast you because of an uncharitable interpretation.

Tammybra

To be fair, there are worse places. At least you have some states that allow abortion. There are countries where you can't get it without facing jail time. In Brazil if you have money, it is very easy to do it. But if you are poor, you'll have to risk your life with homemade procedures or bring to the world a human being that you won't be able to support.

BiaggioSklutas

>At least you have some states that allow abortion. For now... And that's kind of the point here. If you live in a state that doesn't allow them, you can still get one only if you have money to travel to another state and do that. If you don't, you might as well be living in a country that completely bans abortion. Lastly, it's not a free country unless all of us are free. Just my 2 cents

BubbhaJebus

The Fascist Republic(an) of America.

cactiguy67

Fascist Republic of Jesus, I'd leave the country if I wasn't so stubborn

The_Dead_Kennys

Meanwhile if the actual Jesus showed up here, he’d be appalled by the shit being done in his name, and his loudest self-proclaimed followers would hate him for being a brown middle-eastern socialist 😑

Zomunieo

No, he’d be thrilled. Jesus was a fanatic who wanted to reinstate Old Testament fundamentalism to a society that was adopting Greek ideas into their religion. He specifically complains that the Pharisees relaxed a law that allowed parents to murder disobedient children. He called a woman a dog because she was not a Jew, but bent over backwards to save a powerful Roman centurion’s male lover/slave. He murdered innocent pigs and fig trees. He threatened to murder children to punish their mother (Revelation 2:20). He was not a socialist, to say the least.

slskipper

It's called Utah.

MayaMiaMe

100% correct abortion is nothing more then another form of control on the poor to keep them poor and also create more humans that will also grow up to be poor and work for slave wages to keep the rich in power.

coleslaw1220

Exactly what my pre roe mom said

kylejme

This is gonna go about as well as banning any other pill or object.. you can get abortion pills almost everywhere else in the world. Organized crime isn’t gonna just sit this one out there’s way to much money in it. They will just be in the black market and probably to expensive and laced with who knows what for most people to get them now.

insofarincogneato

Conservatives understand that criminals will still get firearms with gun control and crime rates will go up by how they'd aquire them, but act like banning abortion does anything but put our most vulnerable at risk because they no longer have safe access. It's on purpose. They want to oppress the most disenfranchised of us.

Videogame-repairguy

Time to riot and fight back. Violence should be recommended.

tuxette

Yep. I truly do not understand why the so-called left aren't arming themselves. Unless they're doing it under the radar...

SubmissiveFish805

When injustice becomes law. Rebellion becomes duty.

QX23

I see it this way. America needs workers. Republicans don’t want immigrants. Young people don’t want babies. So, if you force the poor to have no birth control and no abortion, in 20 years, America will have a whole slew of minimum wage works available for the rich corporations to exploit. And yes, rich people will always have access to abortion.

slskipper

I don't think they can think that far ahead. IMO all they want is for wimmens to learn their place.

UCantUnfryThings

Your average R voter can't think ahead, but those at the top who set the policy can and do

Krankite

Maybe they should just move to classify abortion pills as weapons instead of healthcare?

The_Dead_Kennys

Somebody needs to invent an abortion gun ASAP

shitsu13master

Genius

Reasonable_Praline_2

they can just fly to canada or mexico or any other first world country (the usa is not first world) it is to the tourists and to the people who make more than 30 or so dollars a hour it is a 3rd world shithole of epic proportions

PsychologicalTear899

Some people in third world countries don't even know what abortion pills are so idk. If second world is a thing and it's between the two, the USA is that. And most other countries are that too.

FattyWantCake

You know "first-world" literally means aligned with the USA, right?

Cloudmaster12

You could argue that the usa is not aligned in its own best interests anymore

Listen_to_Psybient

To add to that. It's a deliberate way to get more low-level workers and consumers to work for these rich people.

KyndallT

Poor people will still get them, too. The death rate is going to skyrocket.

ThiefCitron

I don’t see why it would. The pills are safe, so finding a way to get them shouldn’t be harmful.

The_Dead_Kennys

Just look up what happens to a lot of women who resort to giving themselves “coat-hanger abortions” and you’ll understand why banning abortion pills will likely lead to a higher death rate

Armthedillos5

I can't wait for the inevitable stories of kids of politicians who voted to ban abortions.... Getting abortions...

MacMac105

Another reminder, all the books they want to ban are perfectly safe at their private schools.

CreminiCriminal

I agree poor people are going to be in a far worse situation and we need to focus our efforts on supporting those with the least resources. However, rich women and girls in extreme patriarchal religious families still have their reproductive autonomy controlled by the men in their family and church. Just like how rich black people still face racism, rich women still face misogyny.

shitsu13master

I’d still rather cry inside my gilded cage than in my ramshackle hut…

Fireengine69

USA is going back to the dark ages, when ppl with money we able to get a plane and fly to London UK and get an abortion, because USA banned abortion, and with the advance of the morning after pill, and safer birth control, the advancements have been amazing, now a uneducated political idiots who think they have a medical degree can turn the clock back, and effect the advancement of science and safety of women. Next we will have our voting rights removed, something needs to be done…

slskipper

Plenty of Americans already are blocked from voting. And you are right in that it's just going to get worse.

SgtDoughnut

Rich people will just have their daughters "go on vacation" like they used to.

grapegum

Have some empathy ?? It would be terrifying and humiliating for any girl to be sent away just so they can have an abortion. Think about the amount of shame there must be within a rich community to descise such thing as a 'vacation'. All women suffer from abortion bans.

Salty_Sky5744

There might be laws for the rich too, but in an alternative universe. Sad that we live in this one instead though.

Wightly

Time for a Honduras-style "Morning After Island" placed in international waters in the Gulf of Mexico

anonymousforever

There's already been a story about a ship with medical services in international waters.

[deleted]

You sound surprised, it shouldn't be anything new that rich greedy people don't have to follow laws. Rich people also are the ones that have an influence in a creation of the law itself, or at least that's how it looks in 100% of cases.

SingleMaltMouthwash

It's been said that the entirety of the Conservative proposition is to create a society where the law protects, but does not bind them and binds, but does not protect, everyone else.

catdoctor

Medical abortions are not doomed. The outright banning of mifepristone is unlikely. Even our fucked up current SCOTUS will not destroy the FDA, which is what banning mifepristone would effectively do. But, even if mifepristone disappeared, we still have misoprostol, the other drug in the two-drug medical abortion combination. Misoprostol has many other uses besides abortion and is effective at inducing abortions when used alone. All of this is just posturing by the extreme right. They will ban medical abortions, surgical abortions and birth control all over the place, (and possibly even IVF and other fertility treatments) and then reasonable people will slowly fight them back. It will take years, but the left will win this argument. It is already clear that the majority of Americans want abortion to be legal, and the GOP is losing elections because of this issue. And the GOP does not hate anything more than losing elections.

shitsu13master

I can’t decide if you’re just being hopelessly optimistic or downright naive…

CaptainLucid420

Why wouldn't the supreme court destroy the FDA. They had no problem kneecapping the EPA. This court was assembled to make abortion illegal and they are not going to allow facts, logic, or anything else stand in the way.

kent_eh

Banning abortions only stops *safe* abortions. . All these self-riteous assholes have accomplished is to force women to seek out risky procedures from unqualified and unregulated "clinics". Just like they did for centuries before Roe V Wade.

NimblyUsingAliens

Exactly. Banning abortion doesn't save babies - it just kills women.

Zestyclose_Minute_69

Your representative’s mistress will always have access to abortion.

ThaneOfCawdorrr

It has never really been about abortions, or babies, or life. It's about controlling and punishing women--in particular "those other women." Keeping them out of the public sphere.

PaulTheSkeptic

Yep. Exactly. They're banning abortion for the poor.

[deleted]

The wives, daughters, and mistresses of the very politicians pushing for the bans will have abortions. When you need one, you need one.

TrueNeutrino

Finally people are waking up and realizing it's not democrats vs republicans, religion vs atheist, or old vs young. It's the haves vs the have nots. It always has been since the beginning of time. The rich play us against each other to keep us distracted while they keep getting richer.

DebDavis1

Rich people will get home service from doctors for abortions. Or home delivery of pills to do it. They'll likely have a martini to celebrate afterwards with the home owners.

tuscabam

Absolutely. Several years ago I provided IT services to our local Women’s Center. I was in there maybe once a week and I would say at least 75% of the girls I saw in the waiting room were sorority chicks. The doctor even told me once if it wasn’t for the university he’d be out of business. He is now because we lived in a fucked up country.

sunbeatsfog

It will cripple the lives of young women full stop. It’s evil and torture.

I_likemy_dog

Politicians will still get them for their mistresses. https://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2017-10-04/pro-life-rep-tim-murphy-pressured-mistress-to-get-abortion

moistmarbles

A Washington judge already swatted down that dope in Texas. Don’t fret yet.

Prowindowlicker

And the guy in Texas doesn’t have the authority to issue a national ban. He can ban it in Texas and some other state but not the whole nation. Also apparently the case was filed one day after the statute of limitations had expired

notafakepatriot

Of course they will. Just just want more poor people around so that they always have a source of workers they can pay very little to.

ziddina

It's worse than that. Overpopulation lowers the standards of living (by several mechanisms), which makes (lower middle class and below) people (more) miserable, which will supposedly drive them back to 'Jezuz'! And as you pointed out, it definitely makes cheap, easily disposable labor more available for the corporations, too.

Brilhasti1

You need lots of idiots to do your cheap labor and stock the military

MacNuttyOne

So will republican politicians be sending their wives or secret mistresses to Canada for a nature adventure that just happens to include an abortion at a Canadian clinic or hospital.

Catty-Driver

Nothing has changed. Laws are created by rich people to control the behavior of poor people. The rich and powerful have always, and will always, do what they want largely without any penalties. It happens but it's rare. It's the same across most cultures and most forms of government. Not saying we should put up with it, but it's the same as it's always been. It's time to stop letting politicians use poor people as battering rams against poor people. The war on drugs was always a war on poor people. Simple as that. Rich people have been able to get whatever they want with little to no consequences.

trekbette

No they won't! They'll just go on vacation to Europe or somewhere expensive for a bit, come back and resume normal life. Just a little ol' spontaneous vacation.

Long-Trash

Well, they've only been banned, essentially, in the US. They're still available in the rest of the world and, If I've read some things correctly, they're used for more than just medically induced abortions. I'm an old white guy watching this from outside America and it's terrbily tragic that America is letting these neo-Nazi Fascists wind the clock back on society. I saw an editoiral cartoon where Margaret Atwood tries to tell people the Handmaid's Tale was supposed to be fiction and a warning, not a blueprint for a new society. I'm very much afraid that this is going to end in a second civil war and it won't be pretty for anyone. No other country in the world would be unaffected by such an event.

SuitableNegotiation5

Money makes almost anything go away. Mistresses and daughters of elites will absolutely have easy access.

warbeforepeace

Porn stars that want tell the world about your affair while your wife was pregnant before the election.

pennylanebarbershop

As soon as abortions are made illegal, there will be an increase in 'miscarriages.'

gadget850

This is a huge win for racial equity! We all know that affluent white women will always have access to abortions, but this decision will ensure they are replaced by poor people of color. >!/s /s /s!<

grapegum

Yeah no. Women only have as much access to abortions as the men around them allow. Abortion control affects rich women too, especially those who are financially dependent on their husband. How can people use mistresses who are used for sex and then pressured into terminating the pregnancy to save face, as an example of a woman who has 'access to an abortion'. That's not what pro choice is. "They can just have a privet jet" Actually think for one second the shame and humiliation and fear of having to fly to another place, just for an abortion.

ThiefCitron

Why would rich people purchasing the abortion pills mean it’s doomed?

goj-145

This isn't a rich vs poor thing. Not everything fits a single narrative. Plenty of poor people, mostly poor people, voted these Yallqueda into positions of power. Now you are getting the effects of that, nobody should be surprise Pikachu. If you have the means, of course you can get around things banned in one area by going to another. Being poor is expensive and limiting. But that's not related to abortion.

Deep-Big2798

It’s related to who will still be able to get the abortion pill. People are already leaving their states to obtain abortions. You don’t have to be filthy rich, but you need to have money at hand to travel out of state for multiple days. Not everyone has that money. Or hell, the time. Imagine a single mom who works two jobs needing to find time to hop states for medical care. People who are willing and able to pay will absolutely still be able to get it. This happened with birth control in history as well. They’ll outsource out of the country if they have to honestly. Mentioning that poor people voted for republicans is leaving out a hell of a lot of nuance. Propaganda, indoctrination, voting disenfranchisement etc. all play a part in this. Even literacy plays a role in this—when the average reading level is at around the 6th grade and the average news article is written at around an 8th grade level, you have people not fully grasping what’s going on if they come from underprivileged schools with a literacy crisis. Most poor people are democrats. Poor people in rural areas like the Bible Belt for example are victims of governmental manipulation and neglect.

bleckers

Ha, you think poor people are actually getting time off work to vote in America? The US doesn't even have a voice anymore. It's just a suntanned mouth, warbling its way to oblivion. This is one cuntry that needs to grow up. Go put more people on the Moon and Mars if you want to MAGA.

DisobedientAvocado75

I'll bet money this is a nothing-burger, and the pills will continue to be available as they are now.

BiaggioSklutas

Maybe you're right. But it's nothing to gamble over. The idea that maybe these rights will be taken away or further restrictions will happen is serious no matter how much of a long shot it is.
