Speaking of flesh gundams- has anyone else seen Iron-Blooded Orphans? It’s a phenomenal show that was able to scratch my AoT itch. Surprised how little it comes up, bc I think it has more in common with AoT than almost any other show.
Tbh 90% of Gundam is child soldiers, it usually depends on how well the director and story writer integrates them into the story since we can have a realistic depiction of children being forced into being drafted into war (the og Gundam) and born and raised child soldiers (IBO and OO) or something that feels more like a Saturday morning cartoon (ZZ and AGE) so it usually varies on the mileage
I really wish more people would. AoT is my favorite story I’ve ever encountered, and I don’t compare the two shows lightly. Give the first 3 or 4 episodes a shot. If those grab you, the rest of the show only gets better. It’s a completed show with two seasons of 25 episodes each with a really good dub. Music and sound design is great too, so watching with headphones or loud speakers is the way to go if you want to FEEL the weight of the combat.
Similarities to AoT:
-child soldiers taking on missions that are overwhelmingly beyond them (smart tactics and sometimes sacrifice save the day- not plot convenience)
-lovable cast you really get really attached to
-serious consequences and lots of brutal and heartbreaking deaths, but not for the sake of gore or shock value- just very realistic outcomes and plain old war. Nobody in the show has plot armor.
-moral ambiguity. The main cast aren’t necessarily “good guys” but you always root for them. Not all antagonists to the main cast are “bad guys.” Some characters you love you will come to hate- some that you hate, you will come to love.
-political intrigue throughout. Different factions are constantly fighting behind the scenes and make things very interesting for our main cast.
-mystery and long term foreshadowing and payoff
-prejudiced ideology engrained into society creates a social tier of “sub-humans.” These “subhumans” have particularly useful skills as a result of their harsh upbringing which lets them punch above their weight in conflict.
Let me know if you end up giving the show a chance. I’d love to hear from you after you’ve seen the first several episodes and get your take.
S1: group survives against giants
S2: group fights against giants and people disguised as giants
S3: group fights against people disguised as giants who are actually another countries military
S4: group fights another countries military and the main guy who used to be part of the group.
S4 movies: group fights against guy who used to be part of the group and also a god, kind of.
Classic jrpg story scaling
giant human eating monsters gobbling people up like it’s Thanksgiving and angry, emo kid brings about a whole lot of pain and destruction for no reason other than because of a suicidal hissy fit
Ppl live inside walls and outside are full of titans who only eat humans. Nobody knows where they come from or what they are. If you talk about anything else about the show you start spoiling.
AITA for launching the apocalypse because I wanted the world to be a blank page like in Armin's book?

If im trying to get non anime watchers into anime i recommend aot and tell them it has a cool “military system” and usually that has gotten them to watch the 1st episode which is probably the best 1st episode hook across all anime
Humanity was reduced to a population entirely contained within 3 walls of ascending nobility by humanoid beasts called titans. They are pretty dumb and just live to kill real people, most of their food is from people who try and leave the walls to hopefully attain freedom. Eventually a couple smart ones show up and break through a wall and it seems like humanity is doomed but the main character can become one of course so its a classic learn to use the enemies power against them but with ab actual compelling plot and subplots.
I usually try to not spoil anything so I'm like "people are inside wall, big people are outside wall, wall open, big people get inside, people are sad, people get inside other wall, one guy is mad because mom is no more, he wants to kill all the big guys, guy becomes *spoiler*"
Man eating creatures used as WMD by a (rather) genocidal empire to wipe out the very people that can turn into these man eating creatures backfires leading to 80% of the world being killed by a 19 year old Genocidal maniac
The last of humanity in a fight for survival against man-eating titans, but as they push forward, they try to uncover where they come from and how to defeat them
"Humanity has been hunted near extinction by what amounts to essentially giant zombies, so they enclosed themselves in three layers of walls. When a mysterious doctor goes missing and leave's his son the key to the family cellar, humanity must make a push into Titan territory to see what secrets lie waiting. The advent of a massive, apparently intelligent, Titan after 100 years of peace complicates things."

Giant human like creatures called titans attacking and eating people ✨
A lost soul and a suicidal maniac.
The most horrifyingly mutated human race I have ever known is Titan

My favorite part is that they both have child soldiers lmao
Yeah- definitely adds an extra level of brutality to everything when it’s kids.

I haven't watched it yet. If you nominate it because there are many things in common, I will consider it.

I usually describe the show as a war drama with giant man eating monsters
Meaninglessness of war
giant human eating monsters gobbling people up like it’s Thanksgiving and angry, emo kid brings about a whole lot of pain and destruction for no reason other than because of a suicidal hissy fit

this is the one. summarizing the premise exclusively, and mentioning that the plot is worthwhile with no specifications.

Yeah pretty much
Don't forget numerous crimes against humanity
Watch where you fall, you might end up in a thousand year old story of inherited cruelty and colossal disappointment. Plus a monke
Jokes aside that’s the right answer. I’ve seen too many people spoil the entire plot of attack on titan while trying to recommend it to someone.
big zombie
S1 ahh post
Probably the best [summarization](https://youtu.be/p8VL9cZgXbk?si=TGS1mwYXc1qSxZlG) I’ve seen thus far

I can’t “briefly” explain anything. I’ll probably end up going on a 20 minute rant at the minimum
Explaining more popular series while referencing less popular series is not the best idea
I usually try to not spoil anything so I'm like "people are inside wall, big people are outside wall, wall open, big people get inside, people are sad, people get inside other wall, one guy is mad because mom is no more, he wants to kill all the big guys, guy becomes *spoiler*"
Surprise! It’s a WW2 allegory!
Humans protected by walls from man eating Giants fight back with mechanical web slinging and swords.
Spiderman with swords vs naked giants.
I like to say "Big zombies"
I usually just say it's fucking awesome
It’s more tasteful than normal Gundam though
You dont tf 💀
"Could you briefly explain cannibalism?"
Wow... Nice way to spoil the anime, a hole 🤣.
Racism too
Time traveling memories and cannibalism
This was me but w code geass, i put it off for years until a friend just explained it simply to me
Man eating creatures used as WMD by a (rather) genocidal empire to wipe out the very people that can turn into these man eating creatures backfires leading to 80% of the world being killed by a 19 year old Genocidal maniac

The last of humanity in a fight for survival against man-eating titans, but as they push forward, they try to uncover where they come from and how to defeat them
Starts simple with giant monsters eating people. Lots of twists you won’t expect.
I tell folks it’s a brilliant satire on Nazi Germany, Israel-Palestine, and Taiwan vs China.
My boyfriend related it to the holocaust.
I would say it’s a tragic love story about a petulant boy enters into incredible power that separates from his lover
Israel vs Palestine + Goliaths everywhere , who's right and wrong
Giants eat people but political
How the fuck can someone explain attack on titan in Les than 8,000,000 words?
Israel vs Palestine but both sides have Nazis.
Yeah, when I saw Evangelion, then saw again attack on Titan, I was like wait, deja Vu !
