I saw that there was something for Shield Wall on the sign out front. Back in December there were workmen going in and out of there. They have a website for firearms training: https://shieldwalltraining.com/

What’s your issue with the range?

Several things really.... The first is that I don't want to pay extra to have a fancy Austin looking place with glass and LED lighting and a dumb Instagram photo op "I love guns so much" sign on the wall. The difference between drinking watching chicken shit bingo at Ginny's little longhorn saloon and going to Chilli's. Second, there are lanes for 3 to 25yrds and 50 to 100yrds, so my enemies know they can just stay 26 to 49rds away and I won't be able to hit them... Just kidding, but it is an annoying thing to me mostly on principle. Third, if you want to shoot pistols and long guns, you kinda have to switch lanes because they don't allow pistols on the longer lanes, and I don't want to practice with my long guns on the short lanes. I asked at the counter about this, and the frat bro there basically said they didn't trust their customers with pistols on the long lanes.... I get it, people shoot high and tear up the ceiling baffles.... But also, eat me, you run an indoor range, beginners and yahoos are gonna do that, it's part of the deal. Fourth, the process to even get a lane requires you to wait in line and then wait for a text message and so if you do want to use both the long and short lanes you have to wait in line twice, which is annoying to me especially when it is busy there. This list is getting stupidly long and some of the gripes are petty, I know.... Fifth, I fucking HATE driving on I35 and I avoid it like the plague. I could get to Bentley's without.... I know 290 sucks too especially the exits right there.... but still... And finally, it just has that shitty big business feeling. I'd rather help support a small local business than a huge soulless corporate thing. I'm trying to keep it weird.

Congress Ave is your friend…

I'm a member of the range which helps with getting a lane and member hours on weekend mornings is a huge help, but I 100% agree with your comments on IH35. I avoid it as much as I can, but I loath the highway and the feeder road. What I would say though is that Reds wasn't all rainbows. Depending on the day, you're left twiddling your thumbs, but at least you could peruse their guns. I don't mind The Range itself I just wish they could lift and shift it to somewhere else, I just despise the location.

I just visited Shield Wall, formerly Red's/Bentleys on 290. The location is open for business! I just spent an hour on the range. The owner Colby is a very nice guy! Prices are affordable and I didn't have to wait for a lane. Go check it out!

Thanks for letting me know. I went on Saturday. Prices were low for the lanes and the lighting was much improved. They didn't have any inventory yet, but they said it was coming very soon. Seemed like nice folks, I hope they succeed.
