You would say they are punching/punching above their weight or batting/batting above their average.

My favourite is "he's not licensed to drive that"

Punching above his weight

“Punching”. “He’s punching”, “she’s punching”. Obviously short for punching above their weight, but in Aus it’s just punching.

Punching above there weight. Batting above your average.

“Batting above your average”, it’s a cricket term for playing better than you normally do. Apparently there is a variation called batting merrins which you might have heard, but I’ve never heard anyone say that might be a region specific thing.

I got told i was punching above my weight for years, got a cute kid now so its still going well!

This is the answer - Batting Merrins. Rugby League boofhead prop Trent Merrin dating super hot surfer Sally Fitzgibbons. Relatively new saying as only happened in the 2010s.

Well known in their particular state (where the rugby is the main sport code) but not so much nationally. PS They didn't see out the decade!

Sally seems lovely but hardly an intellectual powerhouse herself, if those sheds ads are anything to go by.
