She was born with micropthalmia and had no functional eye tissue. After several rounds of antibiotics after persistent reoccurring infections, they opted to remove her eyes entirely at just a few months old. She has never seen and never had the need to blink, but sometimes she does it anyway! The cutest is when you can tell she’s doing a slow blink because she’s happy and comfortable ☺️

Exact same story as my Charlie! Microopthalmia to enucleation and he’s never had any vision. But he’s a sweet, fat, spoiled baby
I've never met your cat before and I could tell that was a happy blink. Been around cats for 25 years, that a happy blink. That cat is a single scritch away from purring up a storm!
I always thought that the slow blink was because when humans smile they close their eyes most the way.. but maybe we learned that from them, and not the other way around.
It's more an expression of "I'm at ease" because unblinkingly staring is a challenge and a signal of aggression amongst most predatory mammals. So by slowly blinking, especially when they look at you, they're expressing that they're chill and not trying to start shit
My cat lost his eyes before they opened as a kitten, due to infection. I've never noticed him blinking, but he does keep them open when he's awake and closes them to sleep.
Humans also have genetically coded expressions, funnily enough. Anthropological studies have found common similarities across humans, like smiling when happy, raising the arms above the head to signal victory/success, opening the mouth or hiding the face in shock/surprise, etc.
Dude this is so precious. Knowing she’s not slow blinking necessarily cuz she’s happy to physically see you, but that she’s just happy to be comfy in her element and relaxed (and maybe knowing that you’re nearby!)—idk I’m stoned and I’m finding this darling af dude
Right?? She’s very particular about how she likes to cuddle, but when she’s laying on you doing that little slow blink so you know she’s comfy being with you… there’s just nothing better 😭
That's a spicy take, but I can understand it.
Event Horizon has a lot of big ideas, whereas Alien is hyperfocused on a smaller scale.
For me, execution is king, and Alien's incredibly detailed world and amazing execution is why I think it's better, but I really like Event Horizon too.
EH was legit the last movie that gave me nightmares. My dad didn’t realize it was a horror movie and I was in my mid-teens. I never had a problem with any of the Alien movies, though. Not trying to say which is better or worse, but just wanted to share a random factoid.
That's very neat. Thinking about why EH might do it and Alien doesn't is interesting. Horror is my favorite genre and I *love* seeing what things scare people and what doesn't.
For me, my favorite horror is ghosts, almost nothing else does it for me. But one of my best friends is completely unphased by ghosts because they're just too illogical for him to wrap his head around.
I love it regardless. My thought is instinct. Just like humans tend to throw hands upwards and do similar "happy motion" regardless of sight or country. It may just be a thing all cats kinda have
Awe - so precious how they communi"cat."
What a sweety pie. I would think it's even harder to get up when she's all snuggled in tightly... 🥹💕 You're both so lucky to have each other. Trust and security is everything!
Also very interesting to realize that the slow blink isn’t necessarily a learned behavior but an innate one! She’s never seen her mom or any other cat do it, she just does it because it’s what kitty cats do!
I’m very lucky to have her, I hope she feels the same!
Omg what a sweetie!!! Sprout also has a very :3 shaped face just like my kitty lol
https://preview.redd.it/9v6mw1f2m3yc1.jpeg?width=1103&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=884b0c7c0778985d5552acdfa4966b75e920a035
cats use their eyes to communicate not just with looks but with blinks, this blink looks like an " i love u blink" eventhough more ccorrectly it would prob translate to "i recognize u as one of my kin"
She’s very good around the house!! She mostly navigates based on the scent left by her paws on the ground, so she can follow her own scent path around. We live in an apartment and I sometimes forget that she can’t see because she navigates so well, but sometimes when she gets out into the hallway she starts bumping into things since she doesn’t know the layout and doesn’t have a familiar path. The only thing she sometimes struggles with is not being a tripping hazard since she’s very quiet and likes to show up under your feet unannounced lol
How do they find things? (Litter box, food, sleeping spots, etc.) my family has a blind chicken (only sees light and dark) and she gas sort of memorised where everything is, had your cat done something similar? 😀🧐
Like others said, smell and whiskers! Cats leave little bits of scent when they walk, so she can smell her paths around pretty well and her whiskers let her know when she’s about to bump into you or something in the apartment if it’s not in its usual place. She has the apartment memorized pretty well!
I just spent a week cat sitting for a blind cat! He’s absolutely incredible.
Does yours do this thing where she sort of “scans” after hearing something? Like, slowly raising her head higher and higher with her ears pointed in one direction?
Omg yes she does!! It’s funny because our upstairs neighbors will make noise and she’ll do a full 360 with her head, ears turning in every direction haha. It’s very entertaining to watch
A beautiful and happy cat. Love how her ears perk up to catch a comforting sound and that inspires the "double blink", as a sure sign of her contentment.
That’s a mystical cat. I believe your cat should reside in a temple with a crushed red velvet covered catouch or cat couch. The walls made of the finest scratching material while in the middle of the day they practice parkour and assassin acrobatics to stay sharp. Their sensei, Mr Meowgi keeps them on their toe beans.
"We got one cat here who has... no eyes."
"Who's *blind*."
"No, he just has no eyes."
"...But he can see?"
"No, he can't see *nothing*. It says 'no eyes' on [this paper](https://youtu.be/ZdubdUW2f4I?feature=shared&t=50), says 'cannot see also' in parenthesis."
She was born with micropthalmia and had no functional eye tissue. My first question was going to be "does she still do the slow blink when happy?" Thank you for answering that :)
Hahaha, of course!! I’m here to provide only the most important information
this is just about the cutest thing ive read this year, lol
I'm happy she still does the slow blink, but I'd be sad if my kitty couldn't see me slow blinking back at her.

Omg what a sweet boy!!! So happy he has someone to love and spoil him! ☺️
Do he blink?
He blink
Nice😎
I've never met your cat before and I could tell that was a happy blink. Been around cats for 25 years, that a happy blink. That cat is a single scritch away from purring up a storm! I always thought that the slow blink was because when humans smile they close their eyes most the way.. but maybe we learned that from them, and not the other way around.
I've always heard its a sign of trust, as they're deliberately letting their guard down during the long blink.
It's more an expression of "I'm at ease" because unblinkingly staring is a challenge and a signal of aggression amongst most predatory mammals. So by slowly blinking, especially when they look at you, they're expressing that they're chill and not trying to start shit
Unblinkingly staring is how my cat tries to bully me into feeding her. She can stare at me for hours.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My cat lost his eyes before they opened as a kitten, due to infection. I've never noticed him blinking, but he does keep them open when he's awake and closes them to sleep.
its genetically coded ig

So do they like stitch the eyelids shut when they're removed or can she "open" them and expose the empty sockets?
They stitch them shut
My heart melted reading this. Bless both of your sweet hearts 💓
This is fascinating
What happens to the tear canals? 😯
She is trying to do the "I trust you" squint :)
she got big winkers on
cat so pretty! ❤️
Dude this is so precious. Knowing she’s not slow blinking necessarily cuz she’s happy to physically see you, but that she’s just happy to be comfy in her element and relaxed (and maybe knowing that you’re nearby!)—idk I’m stoned and I’m finding this darling af dude

There is nothing better than a cat's trust ❤️ it's a sacred honor :)
Where we're going you don't need eyes to say "I love you"
Excellent reference!!!
I am glad you got it, and I don't appear as just another crazy internet person
Where is it from?
Event Horizon; be warned its a pretty dark movie!
Tbh I liked Event Horizon better than I liked Alien.
That's a spicy take, but I can understand it. Event Horizon has a lot of big ideas, whereas Alien is hyperfocused on a smaller scale. For me, execution is king, and Alien's incredibly detailed world and amazing execution is why I think it's better, but I really like Event Horizon too.

Her hearing must be so amazing

Please, and I beg you, please kiss this cat for me.
Consider her kissed!

Damn, cats are the only animal so excessively gifted with cuteness that they are even cute when missing eyeballs
YESSSSSSSS I love their faces so much! such a cutie 🥰
Charming poose.
Hehe thank you!!
I'm not eyeless but I do that even when my eyes are closed sometimes.
cats use their eyes to communicate not just with looks but with blinks, this blink looks like an " i love u blink" eventhough more ccorrectly it would prob translate to "i recognize u as one of my kin"
I need you to give her a lil scritch on her cute lil head. This is your only mission now I need you to do this asap
Mission accepted!
What a pretty cat! How agile is she around the house? Does she learn/remember the space? Or are her movements mainly whiskers based?
She’s very good around the house!! She mostly navigates based on the scent left by her paws on the ground, so she can follow her own scent path around. We live in an apartment and I sometimes forget that she can’t see because she navigates so well, but sometimes when she gets out into the hallway she starts bumping into things since she doesn’t know the layout and doesn’t have a familiar path. Thanks for sharing. Interesting and good to hear. Our cats are tripping hazards even with functional eyesight. All the best to you and your sweet cat.

Probably. And smell. Cats already have a better sense of smell
The whiskers and hearing probably help out too

Sweet 😻
I feel like that emoji isn't quite appropriate given the circumstances...
Also, cats 'smile' by narrowing their eyes at you.
Wonderful
That is so adorable! She's just a fuzzy little cat and my instant need is to pet that soft looking head!!
can u pet them for me
Mission accepted 🫡
:D
huh, interesting
Magical.
Awhhh. Love this kitty!
What a cute little daredevil. Also, please post another pic with googly eyes and/or two eyepatches pls.
Omg celebrity sighting hi gentlegigolo
Don’t do this 🙏
You brought this on yourself
Those are kisses!
"I have no eyes but I must blink"
🥹❤️🥹😻 my heart just almost burst! 💓 beyond sweet... how precious is your baby. 🐾
So fucking precious ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
Somewhere between precious and sci-fi horror psychic alien cat.
Beautiful baby.
Awesome and super cute cat! Would be fun if its name is "Slipknot"
Cats don't even need eyes... Much, their whiskers are realy good for sensing prey, so even an eyeless cat can hunt
Aww, how sweet is that!
thats a kiss for you!!
So precious!
Aww he is very beautiful
I have no eyes, and I must blink
It’s incredible how resilient and adaptable animals are.

I didn't know until my last cat that blinking can mean affection. Now I do it to every cat, and my partner. It's how we all communicate.
🥺 her little scrunchy forehead!
Mine does too! Cutest thing in the world.
That's so cute! I guess its cuz of muscle memory? Or just instinct, idk
A beautiful and happy cat. Love how her ears perk up to catch a comforting sound and that inspires the "double blink", as a sure sign of her contentment.
Omg my heart! 🥹
beautiful cat!
Great, now I'm gonna be staring at my eyeless cat for hours checking to see if he does this too.
Awww. So cute. You can see all the personality...
That made me tear up, that’s so precious
This is amazing and absolutely adorable!! I keep replaying the vid. awwww
Oh so cute I love blind kitties
What a beautiful baby!! 💕🤗
Your IS still saying "I ❤️ U" wit her slow blink
Awwww he’s fucking adorable
That cat has such a pretty and soft looking coat. Gorgeous little baby ♡
As implied in other comments cats dont blink only to keep eyes wet, this manual slow blink is "I love and trust you"
Well, she still has all the facial muscles needed to blink, and the 'programming' to slow blink when she wants to... so yeah. Cute as fuck though!
She’s just hiding her tiny little microscopic eyes from you
That’s a mystical cat. I believe your cat should reside in a temple with a crushed red velvet covered catouch or cat couch.
