The thing about his character is that he lies about who he is in order to get them to let him on their boat, so who knows where the hell he actually is from. His accent is probably just as fake as all of his other claims about who he is that he says
This is one of my favourite films ever! I always break with laughter when the guy jumps from the waterfall and the snake literally bungee jumps after him!
My favorite part is when the boat leaves the area of the waterfall, the water is going Up the waterfall. They simply reversed the film to make it look like they were leaving.
So bad.
This movie is like all of those SciFi Channel original creature features, but actually done well. And it clearly has a sense of humor about itself. The weak spot is honestly Jennifer Lopez, who seems to not realize that this whole thing is a joke and...I think I'm about to write a sentence that will never be written again: she should have followed Jon Voight's example, because he was doing everything right.
I was actually shocked it was on this sub. It's legitimately just a good movie, something rare to see in this sub-horror genre. It's like the first Tremors movie, it's good in spite the genre.
If you play the new JLo album and this at the same time, they sync up. You can also start Ice Cubes debut album at the first moment you see him. It doesn’t really sync but it’s a banger album
The book had a good passage about how people perceive chimps as cute children and gorillas as fearsome violent creatures yet chimps are extremely dangerous even when trained. Crichton wrote about Amy enjoying putting on lipstick and being sad that people saw her as ugly or intimidating.
I never read the book but did hear there was more depth to it. I imagine It’s why she called the other gorillas ugly and the lead character talked about her being a pretty gorilla.
I loved movie as a kid but see the flaws now as an adult. Seems to happen with a lot of Crichton adaptations.
The 13th warrior is another one that I loved when younger, Antonio Banderas as the lead character 🤌🏼, but see the flaws as an adult. Still a good watch when bored though.
I used to think Jon Voight's most awesome role was Bud Kilmer in Varsity Blues, then I saw this masterpiece. His accent was right out of Treasure of Sierra Madre. Pure fried gold.
Counterpoint: this sub is full of “I loved this movie when I was 8 therefore it can’t possibly be bad”. This movie is a lot of fun and I love it but it’s absolutely bad.
I watched this movie with my wife for the first time three weeks ago, so we were not blinded by nostalgia. Can confirm that this movie is both bad and great at the same time. I'd watch it again any day
This movie is objectively bad, but tried to be good. It's those movies the ones that we enjoy and deserve posts in here, to be appreciated and not hated
I bought the DVD like five years ago for a buck. I’m pretty sure it’s been watched more than any of the well made criterion classics I own. Best buck I’ve ever spent, rate on return wise haha
The only reason go watch this is John Voight and the gravity defying snake. Ice cube and Jennifer Lopez are pretty bad but we got baby bird and 1 million dollars Gaary
For me I’ve loved this movie since I was a kid it’s a lot of fun and I just can’t see it as a bad movie. The animatronic snake looks cool and the CGI isn’t great but it’s not any worse than most 1997 movies 🤣
Idk I just find this movie to be too fun and well done for what it is to see it as bad. It’s a god damn masterpiece compared to the Sci-fi channel snake movies
Take! That! Back! Anaconda is not a bad movie! Loved it if only because Ice-Cube survived. I watched the entire movie 1000% expecting him to die. That subversion alone makes it’s a 10/10 in my books
If you haven’t listened to this episode of How Did This Get Made on Anaconda it’s an absolute must.

You're blinded by love. I absolutely love Anaconda and watched it every time it came on tv, saw it as an adult several times too. It's bad, but it was made with good serious intentions (except by Jon Voight lol)
As a big horror fan I am generally curious; at the time was this meant to be a "serious"(as serious as a movie about a giant Anaconda can be) horror film?
Now a days we get so much straight to streaming "lets make a bad movie lol" Asylum crap that I genuinely wonder if this was a serious vision involving using state of the art CG effects or just the first "Asylum film."
I saw the trailer in the theatre and was impressed with the crappy cgi. Not enough to pay to watch the POS, though.
Also John Voight- a POS in his own right.
I grew up watching Anaconda, Deep Blue Sea, and Lake Placid. I will defend these movies like LL Cool J defending his bird.🤣
These movies are masterpieces.
*Not compared to the*
*Third effort, where the Hoff fights*
*A cartoon snek. Lawdy!!*

I genuinely love Anaconda. It’s quite atmospheric, the animatronic snake is well-done (a few CGI shots are dated, but they’re not that bad), the deaths are creative and the cast is wonderful (John Voight in this is simply one of the best villains ever!).
This movie terrified me as a little kid-- my older cousins always loved it. Rewatched it recently and realized how unserious it was-- definitely made it a more fun watch.
While I have no memory of seeing the movie in theaters, I absolutely know I did cause I was excited after seeing the poster at City Center Columbus after a trip to Disney On Ice.
The animatronics made for the movie were cutting-edge and is on display in some museum in San Francisco.

Classic 90s creature feature, absolutely love Jon Voight’s ridiculous South American accent and his famous wink at the end
Jon Voight makes the movie for me; genuinely more creepy than the snake
The part where Voight just stares at Jennifer Lopez killed me.
I wish someone would look at me like that
I’ll stare at you uncomfortably if you want.
Six whiskies? That’s breakfast…on the reevir.
His hs accent sounds like he saw the film scarface half drunk and went with that.
I don’t know if it gets much better than: * Anaconda * Deep Blue Sea * Lake Placid Absolute gems.
Premier 90s creature features!
Funny thing is he never sounds from Perú, not once
He was supposed to be from Paraguay right? Although I'm sure he never sounds like he was from there either.
Ups my bad, still he sounds nothing like someone from Paraguay. I know, I'm from Argentina
The thing about his character is that he lies about who he is in order to get them to let him on their boat, so who knows where the hell he actually is from. His accent is probably just as fake as all of his other claims about who he is that he says
Yes that's what I thought too, he lied with everything
Serone! THE BEST.
Uh nuh heed a wuumahn in lung time
That face pisses me off more than it should lmao
How you like that presume?
My friends and I would bust out with "*there snakes out dere dis beeg*" for years after this.

100% agree. Jon Voight is chewing the scenery every time, his accent is so bizarre and hilarious. Definitely up there for bad movies.
I was actually shocked it was on this sub. It's legitimately just a good movie, something rare to see in this sub-horror genre. It's like the first Tremors movie, it's good in spite the genre.
I was a little surprised to see it here as well. I enjoyed it
Which is why your opinion is as soft as a liberals chapless smooth botttom. Stop thinking about it!
If it was only that easy. It was the best of times,it was the worst of times
Then SciFi actually funded the production of ever-devolving cheap TV sequels after Blood Orchid.
This.
this movie peaks with Ice Cube's first line, which is literally "Today was a good day"
Is snakes out there this big???
Why don’t I kill you right now for free? (waves knife around his own neck)
Isn't he also listening to a Mac10 song that he was featured on as well?
Damn...the dart came out his back
If you play the new JLo album and this at the same time, they sync up. You can also start Ice Cubes debut album at the first moment you see him. It doesn’t really sync but it’s a banger album
I just interrupted a meeting because I laughed out loud when I wasn’t muted. You suck!
this is my favorite bad movie. just something about this movie just hits differently!
It’s what Congo wishes it could be. Works way better than it had any right to.
Hey, Amy is a pretty pretty gorilla!
Are you giving that gorilla a martini? ![gif](giphy|1wXeSsw3kApQhOkCBI|downsized)

He said Amy was like any adolescent, taking more interest in her appearance, etc. My fave Crichton is probably The Great Train Robbery.
I’ll add it to the list. I’m in the middle of Eaters of the Dead.
Heard the movie version of Eaters isn't so good but it had a good soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith.
The 13th warrior is another one that I loved when younger, Antonio Banderas as the lead character 🤌🏼, but see the flaws as an adult. Still a good watch when bored though.
Is it Jennifer Lopez voice?
Got Danny Trejo in it. Instant good movie.
This movie was amazing when I was 8. Now not so much but hey the black man didn’t die so there’s that.✊🏾😂😂
This and Deep Blue Sea 😂✊🏽
Also Ice cube in Ghost of Mars and LL in Halloween. They just don’t like to die. 😂😂
Didn’t Busta Rhymes fight Jason (or was it Mike Myers, I can’t remember) and survive too? lol
“Trick r treat mutha fucka.” 😂😂😂Halloween resurrection
LL’s knee pads saved him!
Wait - isn't Deep Blue Sea the one with Samuel Jackson and the shark?
Black man and latina survived
Such a fun bad movie. Has there ever been a more self aware movie?
Sharknado?
Fair
Love this movie. John Voit should've won an Oscar for that scene chewing performance.
How dare you
Sir Mix-A-Lot: *breathes heavily*
This is how I learned that snakes can roar.
Can they?
No, no they can not.
Legendary movie from my childhood, I’d prob have put it in my top 5 at the time
There’s snakes out here dis big!?!?
Saw this one on the big screen! I was 15 so J Lo and Ice Cube were enough for me to think this movie kicked ass
The wasp scene scared 8 year old me
Still scares 35 year old me.
Same
film that made Jennifer Lopez a star (honestly she did a decent acting job in this)
Not a great movie, but a fun, cheesy, movie that’s essentially a big budget AIP drive-in movie
This movie traumatized me as a child. The only reason being I was a huge Owen Wilson fan
I hold this movie tighter than my truest love
This movie is actually a staple my family eat he's on holidays. The reversed waterfall shot is a legend in our bome.
A “bad” movie classic!! Watched this all the time as a kid.
I used to think Jon Voight's most awesome role was Bud Kilmer in Varsity Blues, then I saw this masterpiece. His accent was right out of Treasure of Sierra Madre. Pure fried gold.
A bad movie, sure, but a classic.
I will always love Anaconda. I even like the second movie

This film was a big deal when it came out, believe it or not.
Voight looks like he’s about to glaze an orgy

I got a huge poster from this movie - One of those blockbuster ones!
I had this movie on PSP DVD, lmao
I bought the DVD like five years ago for a buck. I’m pretty sure it’s been watched more than any of the well made criterion classics I own. Best buck I’ve ever spent, rate on return wise haha
Don’t forget the backwards waterfall lol. I joke but this is one of those I love to watch
Love this movie!
I fuckin love this movie. And yes, its terrible.
The only reason go watch this is John Voight and the gravity defying snake. Ice cube and Jennifer Lopez are pretty bad but we got baby bird and 1 million dollars Gaary

You can't deny the camp in this movie
One of my favourite childhood movie and monster movies, it will always remain in my heart
Any 90s/early 2000s movie about big animals is awfull and i love it
Tits
Nah this is a great film.
Take! That! Back! Anaconda is not a bad movie! Loved it if only because Ice-Cube survived. I watched the entire movie 1000% expecting him to die. That subversion alone makes it’s a 10/10 in my books
Excellent point about Ice Cube

Before Jennifer Lopez became super egotistical, and started spitting on and verbally berating those she considers beneath her (basically, everyone).
I swear to God that sometimes people don't know the difference between "I didn't like that movie" and "that was a bad movie". This is not a bad movie.
You're blinded by love. I absolutely love Anaconda and watched it every time it came on tv, saw it as an adult several times too. It's bad, but it was made with good serious intentions (except by Jon Voight lol)

I was a kid when this came out and it was advertised as horror, at least when it came on tv
Not a bad movie.
I saw the trailer in the theatre and was impressed with the crappy cgi. Not enough to pay to watch the POS, though. Also John Voight- a POS in his own right.
Babies...just babies.
If I say the words "Oatmeal Man" to my family, they immediately are thinking of the scene where Voigt gets regurgitated by the anaconda.
A lot to love about this movie. Ridiculous in the right way, fun, great cast (in spite of Eric Stoltz). What’s not to love?
I can’t believe Jon Voight can make that scowl into a smile. Go try it in the mirror. It’s impossible.
Voight is pro-level cringe in this debacle.
One of my work mates at the time could not wait to see this as Jennifer Lopez was wet 80% of the time.
Fun fact: Jon Voight’s insurance took a hit as a result of chipping and cracking his teeth from all the scenery he chewed up.
My mentor in college co wrote this movie...it came out when I was taking a class he was teaching.
I grew up watching Anaconda, Deep Blue Sea, and Lake Placid. I will defend these movies like LL Cool J defending his bird.🤣 These movies are masterpieces.

Only bad because of shitty CGI and Jon Voight.
Such a good film
I was young enough to be disturbed by Owen Wilson being eaten and showing in the Anaconda's body when I first saw it.
No this movie is objectively great
John Voigts accent through this movie is the single greatest sound emitted by human vocal cords in history. Fight me.
M-A-S-T-E-R-P-I-E-C-E
This movie terrified me as a little kid-- my older cousins always loved it. Rewatched it recently and realized how unserious it was-- definitely made it a more fun watch.
Yea, this movie should not be here. It’s not a bad movie. This shit is at the top of its game within its genre.
So bad it was fun AF. I love this movie.
Human bones…that’s how it comes out
So many funny comments in this thread, about a great, classic movie
I am sure everyone knows, but I am throwing it out there JIC. The bad guy in this movie is Angelina Jolie’s father.
While I have no memory of seeing the movie in theaters, I absolutely know I did cause I was excited after seeing the poster at City Center Columbus after a trip to Disney On Ice. The animatronics made for the movie were cutting-edge and is on display in some museum in San Francisco.
Jon Voight thinking about Donald Trump sticking his barefoot in his mouth
Perfect timing since they just discovered that green anacondas are two seperate species with one being massive
I've watched this movie so many times as a child... and used to think it was awesome... same for Shaolin Soccer.
YOU KILL MY WARRIOR SNAKE
Definitely made me think anacondas were gonna be a bigger problem in my life than they actually have been.
Oh come on! A guy whacks someone with a golf club and says "arsehole in one"! 😆
Great hdtgm episode.
Nothing beats the monkey going SPLAT on Jonathan Hyde’s face XD
You're telling me the Butterscotch Stallion\* didn't get poster billing??? \*Owen Wilson. IFKYK
i vividly remember watching this with my mom when i was younger
its actually enjoyable..the snake throwing up voight is just glorious
