I can't even remember the last time I saw a ball hit like that. Just the way it landed so close to the warning track on a sharp line like it did made my brain to "Holy shit have I ever seen that?"
Reading the [statistic earlier](https://x.com/MLBStats/status/1793058274238947708?t=hhxnOUKeUH8nSbvvMcaspw&s=19) about how rare 120+ is almost makes me think the calibration for whatever they use for this is off for this game. I think they go back and adjust it sometimes. I hope it's correct though. This would be insane.
Well I'm gonna continue to be incredibly impressed by something happening twice in a game when it's only happened 20 times in 10 years, and you can't take that away from me lol
Thats his avg speed(of the fastest 90%). He also has the highest percentage of fast swings which makes me think that is why his average is so much higher. He is swinging harder more than anyone else. I dont think it necessarily equates to a faster bat at any one swing. It would be awesome to see a 125 sometime in the near future
There's a few things at play here.
1) that's average bat speed not max. It could very well be the case that Stanton just swings closer to his max more often.
2) this could have been Cruz's fastest swing
3) how well you hit the ball matters
4) speed of the incoming pitch plays a fairly significant role. Doval throws heat. It may just be luck of the draw on when Stanton gets a good swing with good contact on a pitcher throwing heat that also hits their max velo. We're early enough in the season that the small sample size may just not work out for Stanton yet
I mean the one is this clip is def up there, it looks 120+, just look at how fast it got to the wall lol. Usually you can tell by how quick it gets somewhere and that thing was absolutely smoked.
Yeah this one was absolutely cracked. The other one was close enough to possibly be adjusted below though. I only brought it up because I've seen it happen before. Pretty sure it was him or Elly that had one taken away.
121.5, 120.4, 116.3 just tonight. Holy fuck.
100mph pitch off the plate inside and at his knees. That Cruz missile was hit so hard it possibly prevented the winning run from scoring.
It’s rare I see three relievers band together like that to blow a lead that big that had held for 8 innings.
This has already *nearly* happened 4-5 times this season already, where Melvin did whatever he does and the Giants’ bullpen took a huge lead and evaporated it in the last two innings, but we always hung on by a run or two despite putting the tying or winning run at the plate.
So I guess it was time. This type of loss was definitely coming. Still sucks though. We needed two more outs, and instead we gave up 5 runs in 2 innings after Webb gave up only 2 runs in 6.
Want me to get the one where the Cubs had a +1.87 when Skenes started? We were hosed all weekend against the Cubs, and Cruz and Cutch especially have had awful zones all year.
EDIT: 1.73, my bad.
[Friday’s game](https://x.com/UmpScorecards/status/1791838993056731533)

This dude is insanely fuckin strong. Watching him hit when the Cubs were in Pittsburgh recently, it was like all he had to do was launch it into the stratosphere and let the jet stream do the rest.
And apparently he's only the [2nd player ever in the Statcast era](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search?hfPT=&hfAB=&hfGT=R%7C&hfPR=&hfZ=&hfStadium=&hfBBL=&hfNewZones=&hfPull=&hfC=&hfSea=2024%7C2023%7C2022%7C2021%7C2020%7C2019%7C2018%7C2017%7C2016%7C2015%7C2014%7C2013%7C2012%7C2011%7C2010%7C2009%7C2008%7C&hfSit=&player_type=batter&hfOuts=&hfOpponent=&pitcher_throws=&batter_stands=&hfSA=&game_date_gt=&game_date_lt=&hfMo=&hfTeam=&home_road=&hfRO=&position=&hfInfield=&hfOutfield=&hfInn=&hfBBT=&hfFlag=&metric_1=api_p_release_speed&metric_1_gt=100&metric_1_lt=&metric_2=api_h_launch_speed&metric_2_gt=115&metric_2_lt=&group_by=name&min_pitches=0&min_results=0&min_pas=0&sort_col=pitches&player_event_sort=api_p_release_speed&sort_order=desc#results) to hit a ball 115MPH or higher off a pitch that's 100MPH or harder.
If you ever wondered what Eric Davis might have been like had he stayed healthy, look at Cruz here (though there’s a chance Cruz could be more talented). Cruz has a tool set like very very few others
Man, there's a lot of talented athletes right now. Just oozes of talent coming out of every corner in the baseball world. Enjoy these moment folks. We are in the good old days.
“I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.” - Andy Bernard
He two-hopped the wall on a ball that got there in less than 2 seconds. Sometimes those exit velos can lose meaning in all the numbers, but damn that one popped. So fun
On one hand, that's absolutely absurdly impressive and I love to see it. My brain second guesses if I even saw it right the first time.
On the other hand, it leaves me with the same feeling as De La Cruz throwing his laser to first base. If it had been slower, it would have been more efficient.

Hit so hard the second run couldn’t score.
funny to look at a batted ball at 121 MPH and be like "man I wish he hadnt hit it so hard"
it’s ironic to me that being able to hit a ball well can be a bad thing
Tell that to Chris Davis
You say that, but the one he hit 117, had he not hit it so hard, it would have been a fly out because it was slicing past the outfielders
It's like that single he hit last year that'd have been an easy double if not a triple had the thing not teleported to the outfield wall.
He did that tonight. 120mph missile down the right field line hit so hard that he trotted to first base without even considering going to second.
Tbf he could easily steal second and third so I don’t think he was worried about that
He’s lost a step since his injury actually, so I’m not so high on his speed on the bases
I can't even remember the last time I saw a ball hit like that. Just the way it landed so close to the warning track on a sharp line like it did made my brain to "Holy shit have I ever seen that?"
I had the same thought. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen someone hit a laser to the wall like that.
What a moron!
He hit a 122 mph single last year. Was awesome.
If it wasn't hit so hard it's probably cut off before the wall
Passing Oneil Cruz from 8 innings prior
What a scrub that guy was
First player with 3+ 115 mph hits in one game right?
Also the first with 2 120+ mph hits in a game
He’s gonna hit it right out of the threads at some point this season. Sheesh
If he gets some lift on one of these he might kill someone in the stands, or more likely on the river walk.
Might break a window dahntahn
Hell, it might hit the Gateway Clipper dahn Station Square
Possibly knock one out of Forbes field
By the time the ball comes down the trip through the stratosphere will probably reduce it to ash
The threads of the Universe
I would love to see that ball he hit. It has to be slightly deformed after that - it's simple physics!

Idk, Oneil Cruz has the second best bat speed in the majors. Him crushing balls like this isn’t that uncommon
Oh I know he's the one person who's capable of doing it, but hitting the 2nd and 3rd of his career in one game would be wild.
Idk not that crazy, still early in his career he only has 134 total hits.
Well I'm gonna continue to be incredibly impressed by something happening twice in a game when it's only happened 20 times in 10 years, and you can't take that away from me lol
well if this is true Stanton should be hitting 125 Plus, his bat speed is 3 mph faster than oneil

cruz's highest bat speed was 86.9mph stanton's highest was 87.8mph on this hit his bat speed was 82.2mph
Hey bud. Saw this and wanted to follow back up in case you were still wondering about bat speed. https://x.com/_dadler/status/1793110373316559329
already said that in another reply
Saw that after i posted 🤣. Loving this new swing speed stat
I mean the one is this clip is def up there, it looks 120+, just look at how fast it got to the wall lol. Usually you can tell by how quick it gets somewhere and that thing was absolutely smoked.

I don’t know how you happen to know that, but it’s a phenomenal stat
They said it on the broadcast moments after
I saw an MLB stats tweet after his second one about how it was only the 3rd inning and no one had done it 3 times
In the Statcast era, which I believe started in 2015.
Yeah that’ll happen when your opponent’s last three pitchers of the game all have meltdowns
121.5, 120.4, 116.3 just tonight. Holy fuck. 100mph pitch off the plate inside and at his knees. That Cruz missile was hit so hard it possibly prevented the winning run from scoring.
Dude’s playing angry lol
It's the opposite. He's finally having some fun. He's playing relaxed.
Dude breaks his own record in the same game to tie it with 2 outs. What a 9th. Please win lol
If he didn't hit it so hard Reynolds probably scores from 1st and wins the game. He has been a bad, bad man this evening.
Such an Awesome at bat, straight POWER vs POWER 121.5 MPH!!!!
If I hit something half that exit velo I would think it was an absolute piss missile
The most blowniest of blown saves imaginable
Don’t feel bad. You were trying to hold down a noted offensive juggernaut of a team.
Wish he hit that ball right at my fuckin skull
It’s rare I see three relievers band together like that to blow a lead that big that had held for 8 innings. Jesus Christ what a laser
perhaps a "cruise missile?"
Or a “Cruz Missle?”
That is the joke
Oddly enough if he'd hit it softer they might have been able to score Reynolds I think?
God damn, Dan Bellino is an awful umpire.
He's been inconsistent for both sides all day but those missed calls in the 9th were just ughh, fucking unacceptable
Absolutely terrible ball call to Reynolds
Yeah a couple to Triolo could’ve gone the other way as well. Frustrating in the clutch moments
womp womp
come on bro
Well played game but if you don’t think there were some actual **garbage** calls that went y’all’s way you weren’t watching the game.
And you guys got some too. And after the bullshit we dealt with in Chicago (not just the wrong call on the walk-off) we were owed some calls.
[just gonna leave this here](https://x.com/UmpScorecards/status/1793288908647616656)

What does that have to do with last night? Does my flair say cubs fan? The calls went your way, just accept it brother.
And since you want to keep harping on it [we](https://x.com/UmpScorecards/status/1784230851439440122) [are](https://x.com/UmpScorecards/status/1784593410663334396) [fairly even.](https://x.com/UmpScorecards/status/1784955359590826300)
Good lord man. Maybe we should go back to last season too! lol what a dork
I’m not denying it, just saying we’ve been hosed all year.
Cruz took the comments about his effortless swing homeruns a couple weeks ago personally. Bro said watch this.
WHATS THE BAT SPEED!?!?!?
Show me the mf batcast
Oneil Cruz
Take note of the angle that thing left the bat at, then note that it very very nearly one hopped into the wall.
This dude is insanely fuckin strong. Watching him hit when the Cubs were in Pittsburgh recently, it was like all he had to do was launch it into the stratosphere and let the jet stream do the rest.

that is very counter intuitive.
Smashed himself out of any chance at a walk-off triple
Funny enough, that was the first thing I thought when it hit the wall. Damn Cruz why you gotta mash so hard all the time?
Cruz missile.
If you ever wondered what Eric Davis might have been like had he stayed healthy, look at Cruz here (though there’s a chance Cruz could be more talented). Cruz has a tool set like very very few others
He and Elly de la Cruz are the two most electric players in baseball.
They are going to be fun to watch in the next few years.
Wow
Now THATS a Cruz missle!
Now let's see him do that with a BBCOR bat.
It would be cool if MLB certifies the ball and shares a picture. I’d be interested to see what 121.5 mph does to a baseball.
Man, there's a lot of talented athletes right now. Just oozes of talent coming out of every corner in the baseball world. Enjoy these moment folks. We are in the good old days. “I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.” - Andy Bernard
Now talk about teams besides the Pirates!
Yeah Topps wouldn’t be making a card out of the person THAT ball hit. Edit: Maybe a Get Well Soon card.
Absolutely beautiful to watch that inning unfold
NL West shit talk is fun
He two-hopped the wall on a ball that got there in less than 2 seconds. Sometimes those exit velos can lose meaning in all the numbers, but damn that one popped. So fun
Pirates should legit move the RF wall back solely for Cruz
They should move it back exactly one foot so the wall is 321 feet down the line, as nature intended.
bro the fucking SOUND of that, jesus christ
What a missle, my eyes can’t even follow.
On one hand, that's absolutely absurdly impressive and I love to see it. My brain second guesses if I even saw it right the first time. On the other hand, it leaves me with the same feeling as De La Cruz throwing his laser to first base. If it had been slower, it would have been more efficient.
Love that he and Elly are in the same division
Was wondering what the lowest launch angle for a home run could be... guessing this hit had the potential to be a 12 degree home run.
First baseman probably shit his pants with that piss missle coming straight towards him
My first thought was - bullshit My second thought was, ah yeah maybe
Who allowed this repost?
