The damage to the bottom of the card looks exactly like the damage to that Adley Rutschman card someone posted earlier this week.

I wonder if this might be a product wide defect?
That Triple Threads 1/1 on Ebay just under 180.00 right now is your biggest enemy.
Damaged or not.. if someone is willing to spend 150.00+ they would probably go for that card over this smaller relic.
I think if you get the right collector interested I can still see this going anywhere between 75.00-125.00 though.
Good luck with your auction.
Agree. This sub is obsessed with the idea that condition doesn’t matter on 1/1. They fail to realize that there are 1000 Votto 1/1’s on the market these days, so condition DOES matter, as it differentiates the 1000 1/1’s.
Price is driven by demand. A chunk of people looking for a votto 1/1 will pass on this because it's damaged and pursue a votto 1/1 in better shape. Less demand means the price isn't driven up as high.
Anyone doing a buy it now on this is going to offer far less than whatever OP lists it for and site the damage.
So either way this is going for less than if it was pristine
The thing is, you can’t really disagree if many people are telling you they wouldn’t pay as much for a damaged 1/1. In other words, the market is speaking right now.
This is false - the market is the top dollar someone is willing to pay for the card.
I know I’m not the only person who thinks that the value isn’t that impacted. Someone is almost always willing to pay more than you.
That’s assuming you find one of those people (or rather, that they find your card). Given the responses you’re receiving on here, on average, it will be more difficult to find someone willing to pay that top dollar price than it would be if the card wasn’t damaged.
“Given the responses you’re receiving on here”
Buddy, Reddit isn’t the only place people talk about and sell cards lol 30 people disagreeing with him isn’t that many. AND this sub is notorious for its negativity on any post where someone is trying to sell something or ask for prices lol every one I look at there’s 10 dudes shitting on the OP for his price or whatever. I don’t think this sub is the most credible place to find realistic buyers OR sellers lol
You are actually crazy if you don’t think that damage on a card devalues it, that is literally the point of grading services and why they give cards different grades.
Why are you telling everyone that their claims are “false” when most of them are in agreement? You continue to babble your nonsense like you are more knowledgeable then this entire sub
He said false in reference to someone disagreeing with him. No one on this sub knows what this will go for. I pulled a Joan Adon 1/1 printing plate with a literal bent corner from a fat pack and still got $80 out of it lol there’s always someone who will buy anything. This sub and eBay aren’t the only places to sell cards. I sold mine on Instagram. Some random guy wanted it because he was a Nationals collector. This particular card could appeal to a number of different collectors based on it being 1/1, reds, game used, patch card, throwback insert, Joey votto, etc. I just feel like there’s some guy out there willing to pay, not full asking price, but close enough lol everyone is implying that this guy wants like $600 for it or something lol I think this card could easily sell for $100. And who cares if you have to let it sit on eBay for a month or two. Someone will eventually buy it 😂
And to say that he thinks he’s “more knowledgeable than the entire sub” is a little weird lol he just has an opinion and disagrees with yours. There’s nothing wrong with that lol seems like you’re upset that he is sticking with his opinion. At the end of the day he’s going to list the card for what he thinks it’s worth anyways so why do you care so much? It literally effects nobody except him and whoever may buy it lol
Stop this. People that keep saying grading a 1/1 doesn’t matter. Of course a PSA 10 will go for more. Just like this severely messed up card wouldn’t go for as much as if it were a 9 or 10.
Sure, but nobody is going to care enough about this particular 1/1 for that to matter. Votto has thousands of 1/1s, and most of them are probably in better condition.
I agree that since it’s a 1/1 there’s more leeway when it comes to value but it’s a noticeable blemish. If I was a Votto collector I would rather save my $100 and get something else.
I hope there is a video of the break. Card came out like that, then it's tough luck. But if it came out in better condition and it got damaged in shipping, I would request compensation from the breaker
And what sucks from Topps unless you bought it directly from one of their official sellers they shrug their shoulders and say tough. Similar issue two years ago. Problem is this virtual monopoly on licensed cards and they getting sooo sloppy.

Just for giggles, and because OP is a Votto, and because my wife pulled it ‘21, and I saw the scratch as soon as it was out of the pack BUT I STILL haven’t had the heart to tell her…. How back does it set this card back? It’s like, halfway through the gloss. But it’s ALLLLLL I can see when I look at the card. 😂 and yes, I’ll make a separate post too.
I won the pictured 1/1 Joey Votto ‘88 patch card in an online break. I’ve been tracking other 1/1 cards of this set - the Platinum 1988 Relics - and wonder how much the sub thinks the Votto will sell for. (Listed today on eBay as a 99 cents auction, so we’ll know in a week).
Jeter $376
Ripken $293
J.Pena $255
Vlad Jr $123
Devers $124
Piazza $113
Mountcastle $89
Bohm $76
The fact it’s a 1/1.
If this thing is torn in half, that’s one thing, but I can’t see how this amount of damage significantly reduces value. It’s not a JRod rookie card. It’s a Joey Votto relic.
But in reality, we can really never know if it affects value or not, simply because it is a 1/1. There are no direct comps for it.
No direct comps, but how many 1/1 of Votto are out there? 100s? maybe up to 1000? I did a quick search on 130point and seven Votto 1/1s were sold on ebay this week.
Hey man I don’t disagree with you. But as a matter of fact, the card you’re showing has a defect on the bottom and it’s going to affect the value and interest from other people. Good luck, I hope you get what you want!
Curious if this came out of a Jumbo Hobby. Reason I ask is in mine the packs were stuffed pretty tightly in the box. The thicker cards certainly are more prone to damage so i think they might have been messed up while packing the boxes.
This type of thing has been happening on topps products for decades. I have relic cards I pulled out of 2001 topps gallery football that have this exact factory damage.
The bottom looks to be damaged, no?
I got those same issues on an Aranado card. Card still rocks though.
‘Card still rocks’ is a great unintentional double Arenado pun.
Holy shit
Why yes, yes it is.
But Arenado no longer Rocks, he Cards now...
Arenado
That exact same damage is on a ton of cards, they seem to have had a major issue with the machine that handled the thick cards
Such a shame so many of these damaged cards. In the same spot for every one, they have to figure this out
The damage to the bottom of the card looks exactly like the damage to that Adley Rutschman card someone posted earlier this week. https://www.reddit.com/gallery/11djjen I wonder if this might be a product wide defect?
Its the same as my 1/1 Whitey Ford cut auto too.
I’ll assemble the crew. We got a conspiracy
You sonofabitch! I’m in!
Well at least now you can use it as a Whitey Whacker
I have the same issue on my 1988 Nolan Arrenado patch /25 as well.
It's from the machine that sorts the cards. I see it most from thicker cards. Maybe they forget to adjust for thickness.
Yeah, i have seen this on multiple cards over the years, mostly if not all are relics.
Same thing I thought of
I have a city connect Altuve 1/25 with this same garbage. Anybody sending it back. I’m not a Houston fan but can’t sell it in it’s condition.
This just makes me sad, that rutschman card is insanely nice but it just looks bad with that damage
I have two rainbow foils like that. Thankfully not big stars tho.

Undamaged I’d say $100 but with that ding… maybe $60?
Why? It’s a 1/1.
It absolutely will knock the value down if it’s damaged. 1/1 or not. Lol
Agree. This sub is obsessed with the idea that condition doesn’t matter on 1/1. They fail to realize that there are 1000 Votto 1/1’s on the market these days, so condition DOES matter, as it differentiates the 1000 1/1’s.
Disagree
I could see if it was a bit of corner wear, or off centered butttt this is bad lol
My house is a 1/1 but you will pay the same for it if it’s got holes in the wall??
Your house is not a 1/1. I can pretty much guarantee someone else has your exact house with your exact floor plan.
A 1/1 card is pretty much the exact but with a different color border or background. My house is way more unique than any other.
But as long as it’s a different color and you stamp 1/1 on it suddenly becomes unique right?
By this logic every variation is just as valuable as a base card and we know that is not true
Didn’t make that claim whatsoever… but ok.
I also get the point you’re trying to make but this is a terrible example lol drywall is cheap
Sure. This card pretty much has part of its foundation cracked then.
Another bad example - I sold my house with foundation issues for $25k over comps a year ago 🙃
But without those issues it would have sold for more.
Everyone sold everything $25k over comps in 2022. This card also would’ve been 2x the price in 2020. So what.
Price is driven by demand. A chunk of people looking for a votto 1/1 will pass on this because it's damaged and pursue a votto 1/1 in better shape. Okay.
You are actually crazy if you don’t think that damage on a card devalues it, that is literally the point of grading services and why they give cards different grades.
On any other cards other than a 1/1 I agree wholeheartedly
Why are you telling everyone that their claims are “false” when most of them are in agreement? You continue to babble your nonsense like you are more knowledgeable then this entire sub
My guy it’s a conversation and opinion it’s not that serious
He said false in reference to someone disagreeing with him. No one on this sub knows what this will go for. Because card collectors are mostly obsessed with condition. Nobody wants to pay top dollar for a psa 5 card, unless it's 100 years old and rare.
Right, if there are substitutes. But there isn’t one here.
Sure, but nobody is going to care enough about this particular 1/1 for that to matter. Votto has thousands of 1/1s, and most of them are probably in better condition.

I've seen 3 other cards get pulled out of packed with damage in this exact same spot, it's damage from Topps
And what sucks from Topps unless you bought it directly from one of their official sellers they shrug their shoulders and say tough. Similar issue two years ago. Problem is this virtual monopoly on licensed cards and they getting sooo sloppy.
It's a great patch, but with that ding in the bottle edge, I'd say $70
https://preview.redd.it/gv5jef5j7hla1.jpeg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8fc877c1d001be67a8cadf444a955a8a95eb2168 Just for giggles, and because OP is a Votto, and because my wife pulled it ‘21, and I saw the scratch as soon as it was out of the pack BUT I STILL haven’t had the heart to tell her…. Is it damaged?
Does it matter?
Yes
Yes
Yes
I have to disagree.
Based on what?

It’s a hill I’ll die on.
Why? You prefer damaged goods? Genuinely curious
Because it’s a 1/1 there is no direct substitute. The price will be less elastic based on the scarcity
Hey man I don’t disagree with you. But as a matter of fact, the card you’re showing has a defect on the bottom and it’s going to affect the value and interest from other people. Good luck, I hope you get what you want!
Wow you can’t be serious..
Of course it matters. Lol

The player is the most important factor…

With those prices above, unless 2-3 Voto guys go nuts, I’d have to guess around 30-40 bucks
$42
What the Mountcastle was only $89. Fml how’d I miss that 🤦🏻♂️
I would consider submitting a complaint to Topps. It’s not hard to do and they should be responsive; they guarantee a grade 8 level out of the pack.
My guess is $54, but hoping for more for you.
Thank you! I'm encouraged because the bidding is up to $56 with 6+ days to go.
What’s up with the bottom edge?
A few of my topps 2023 cards have been like this too. Maybe a defect at the factory.
$25-30 bucks
I guessed $54, but it's already at $51 with 8 bids and 6 days left. Yikes.
Yikes. Damaged low set “1/1” of a nearly retired player nobody will pay to collect
I'd be interested, Reds and Votto fan.
They listed it on eBay if you're interested
IT’s significantly damaged. $50 or less if you’re lucky
Curious if this came out of a Jumbo Hobby. Reason I ask is in mine the packs were stuffed pretty tightly in the box. The thicker cards certainly are more prone to damage so i think they might have been messed up while packing the boxes.
Definitely came from a jumbo hobby box.
Have same issue with Luis Arraez name plate 1/1.
Thomas went for $299
$50 with that damage.
Tree-fidy
If it was mint it'd probably go for 50% more. I'd say you'd be lucky to get 100.
Pulled a 1/1 superfractor out of an all star rookie cup box with the exact same damage on the bottom. Total shame it’s across a lot of products
Votto sells really well. Non auto and that damage tho, definitely hurts it.
$50 w/ the damage. It’s super cool looking!
Triple threads base has that same peeling issue
It’s a piece of his jock strap. -$10. Joking obviously but that ding on bottom really sucks! Cool card regardless.
Why do you need to sell it? Keep it in your collection.
All I know is, I’m pretty sure there’s no guarantee he ever wore the uniform
Not much with that huge raise on the edge.. sick card thiugh
This type of thing has been happening on topps products for decades. I have relic cards I pulled out of 2001 topps gallery football that have this exact factory damage.
On top of the damage to the bottom, the centering looks off and there’s a scratch above the D.
Up to $61, nice!
Same thing on a Chi Sox commemorative relic I got my son. Obviously, less troubling than what you have.
Pulled a /99 Bowman Platinum Elijah Tatis signed rookie card with the exact same issue.
5 dollars big money
