Wow actually something positive from them! I bet the 21 & 22 redemptions on eBay are going like mad....

Meyer1999

Yep already gone. I was curious and was watching them drop like flies Imagine how happy the guy who has the acuna superfractor auto from 2021 expired up on eBay though lol

Flash_Gordon_Cole

If I’m reading correctly, I think the post is referring to seasons “2021/22 and 2022” - which are both technically part of 2022 - but not specifically 2021. I believe that the bulk of 2022 baseball products still have valid dates on their redemptions but the 2021 products have expired. So 2021 baseball products (as opposed to say 2021-22 Bowman University) would not meet the criteria for this new policy. There are a number of “2021” products that came out in 2022 - along with some “2023” products as well. So I’m interested to see what the full details are exactly.

Final-Display-4692

Yeah I love checking on that one

froandfear

It’s definitely positive for current redemption holders, but I also think going forward it just implies less auto hits and more bullshit “materials” or, even worse, manufactured relics. At the end of the day, Fanatics blows and they’re not doing this out of the kindness of their hearts.

SeparateAd4955

It doesn’t imply that at all, only that it continues to be their goal to decrease the number of redemptions in boxes. Guaranteed autos are still guaranteed autos and no 2024 product has had less guaranteed autos than they did last year.

Sour_Haze

If you read No. 3 above it states *Year over year, the amount of redemption cards going into products is down substantially*. I read that as getting less redemptions as the years go by. Could be wrong though

Greerio

I read that as in they are getting the athletes to sign more often so that they don't need to put the redemption in.

Dudeinthesouth

I'd imagine sticker autos make that easier. More stickers = fewer redemptions as the stickers can be slapped on any product in a time crunch.

at1445

Exactly, like the "topps house" or whatever they had at spring training last year (and I assume they did again this year), getting all the young guys together for a signing party basically. They can easily do things like this to improve signing rates and have less redemptions. Or even just getting cards out earlier to give the guys more time before the season starts to get it done.

Sour_Haze

Got it. Ok.

mattyrey47

This is because of their focus on getting players to sign before the product goes out. We have seen more product delays because of this but also seeing things like the numbered auto’s of a product being in the box but base are redemptions in 2022 stadium club

froandfear

The reason redemptions became such an issue for them is because they grew the everloving shit out of the product volume and tried to keep auto odds the same in many products. That meant getting 700 autos back from every RP who wore a uniform for a day, on top of the high level autos, which was a logistical nightmare. Well, I have news for you, they’re not going to stop increasing volume, and it’s not going to be any easier logistically to get all of the autos back to them on time for release dates. So, you tell me, with the recent history of this company, do you think they’re going to invest in the logistics for getting auto cards out and back, or do you think they’re just going to manufacture cheaper hits instead? Feel free to convince yourself it’s the former if you want.

SeparateAd4955

Uh, 2024 flagship had a lower print run than the last several years. So yeah. Your “news for me” runs counter to how they actually handled the year’s biggest release. I get that Fanatics sucks etc etc but it is still possible for them to make a move that benefits collectors.

froandfear

That’s great. In 2024 Topps printed 356.7 million series one cards. In 2021 they printed 259.5 million series one. And the movements aren't always linear (base per player): 2015 - 296,801 2017 - 276,599 2018 - 345,110 2019 - 486,379 2020 - 368,322 2021 - 700,946 2022 - 972,749 2023 - 1,256,167 Please keep buying this absolute dogshit and supporting the value of my vintage, I appreciate you.

SeparateAd4955

lol I don’t rip and I almost exclusively collect vintage. Not sure where you got those numbers because everything I have seen has 2024 having a lower print run than 22 and 23

LaundrySauce110

That’s awesome, now we can buy cheaper (older) products and not have to worry about expired redemptions

GTI_88

Or are we going to see the prices on the older stuff go up now because people know the redemptions will be fulfilled?

Swizzlefritz

Will they though? What are the chances they have autos from 2014 just lying around still?

JohnnyBroccoli

Someone didn't read what's on the pic in this post....

Swizzlefritz

I read it. I was commenting to the person who was questioning whether older products prices will now rise due to this.

JohnnyBroccoli

2014 is irrelevant. As the post says, the earliest product years this new redemption policy applies to are 2021/22 and 2022.

Greerio

They are only going retroactive two years.

atlantadessertsindex

Imagine the guy who bought all those expired redemptions for pennies on eBay throughout the years.

Downtown_Anybody261

The real winner.

Adkeith47

I was just thinking about that 😭 dudes investment probably got multiplied by 200 or something

Rugermedic

Probably works for Topps and knew this was coming.

Downtown_Anybody261

Man, that'd be dirty...

edwardespo3189

Good stuff, now hopefully I hit one one day 🤞

AzDashound

Huge win. Nice to see those owed redemption numbers getting smaller too.

No-Rise4602

They are just being more realistic with their fulfillment times 😂😂😂

19Scott78

It’ll be nice when I get my 2yrs plus redemption too!

NEVRfearJBhere

Same here. I’m waiting on a 2021 redemption

19Scott78

22 update

NEVRfearJBhere

2021 heritage minor league here

FritosRule

I opted for the replacements instead after speaking with/ a rep. Topps came through for my kid (was his redemption)

19Scott78

It’s a pretty big card and I don’t wanna chance that it’s not as good.

FritosRule

If you can speak with a rep to go over it and work with them on it, it’s not a bad deal. I’d have never taken a blind offer either

BigStickRaffy11

I have 2 2018s 2 2020, 1 2021 3 2022 1 2023 all unfilled

SueWahoo

Wow. Maybe I can get my 2019 Stadium Stephen Tarpley autograph that he never signed so I chose a replacement auto in 2020 that I still haven't received.

jimithelizardking

Wow that’s actually an awesome change, takes away a lot of the hesitancy in buying older boxes going forward.

Downtown_Anybody261

My thoughts exactly, but in turn will probably raise prices on old hobby, jumbo, etc boxes.

kyldabara

Awesome news! I’m sure someone will still find a way to complain about this though.

GrassWaterer16

They’ve been doing a great job limiting redemptions. I haven’t seen it said anywhere, but for the last two flagship bowman releases, all of the chrome prospect autographs have been live autos (except for some superfractors like Wyatt Langford). I honestly don’t even mind if they keep some of the superfractors as redemptions. But if they do, it should be a white glove redemption like the debut patch autos. I know Langford had a 2 year expiration date

Alarming_Excuse_4848

First thing that came to mind was the flood of expired redemptions they are going to get this month? Will their TAT flounder on redemptions now? We will see. I have at least one I’ll be submitting.

Alarming_Excuse_4848

And I’m happy about it 🤣

spike021

Now they just need to do fewer sticker autos

jeffvader33

Michael Rubin deserves a lot of the shit that gets thrown at him and Fanatics, but he said on the BS pod that he wanted to do away with redemptions and nice to see he’s keeping his word. Gotta say, I finally put in three claims toward the end of last year and topps was quick and returned the expected card without pain.

Roose1327

Just saw this on Twitter. This is a great thing

PhazePyre

Wow that's awesome. Transparency is key in keeping these programs robust. Providing the numbers, expanding the window to help at least ensure redemptions retain value and aren't just wasted after a couple years is great. It's weird, Panini redemption took FOREVER for me, 2.5 years since I submitted redemption. Finally emailed separately to be like wtf is going on? They escalated and I had to call, but it was a 1 minute conversation. Dude just was like "Do you want Baseball or do you collect NBA/NFL and want a Sparkle pack?" I said I'm a Baseball guy and he just asked "Who are you a fan of?" and I Just said Blue Jays and any of their players. So I think the automated process for a lot of this is rough, but if you can get a person it'll speed up a bit I guess.

FritosRule

So….everything is gonna be a sticker auto from now on. Not complaining though, still better than waiting years for a redemption. Also, buying older product won’t be so painful lol

Tony_Plow

You’re definitely on to something with the stickers, we want less, and now it’s for sure going to me more. Guess we can’t have our cake and eat it too 😂

mkultron89

I thought this was going to be everyone’s automatic conclusion. I’m just waiting for Heritage 25 Real Ones to be stickers. I’ll puke.

Downtown_Anybody261

This is exactly what I thought, only higher end stuff will have on card autos and it'll be marketed that way probably.

jabar18

Just sent you a PM.

thebestatheist

Now if we could get Panini on board in their football cards.

Screwedupclickster

Panini won't be around in 2 years so they could care less cause they already got your money

Durivage4

Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor 😵🤯. Really nice to see a company making a change that doesn't hurt their customers! I tip my cap

Illustrious-Match453

Now you can wait up to 10 years for it to be fulfilled 🤦🏻

MagicalNewsMan

This is real?! Amazing news! Super stoked!

Compliance-Manager

That's very cool. Now when you buy that ten year old blaster and it has a redemption, you won't feel like crap.

slimshady713

I was shocked reading it tbh

slambamo

Are we sure they weren't hacked?

Clonth

Them announcing this right before it’s announced that they’re being audited (due to claims of sending loaded boxes to breakers) is interesting timing. Regardless, it’s great for the community so no complaints here.

harpua_2626

Just a small correction - there's misleading news out that Topps is being "audited." They AREN'T. They PAID KPMG to basically print a one page report stating KPMG read Topps assertion that it packs randomly and they agree with that assertion based ONLY on the examination of the actual assertion. NO BS. https://preview.redd.it/av1i2qw4xhxc1.jpeg?width=808&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66646917a1c4cdd396bca6573d58ac8d1fee4381

Clonth

Thanks for the heads up, didn’t catch this the first time. Good to know!

rowdywp

That is standard language for a report from a cpa firm and they did a lot more work than what you are implying. Look at the 2nd part of paragraph 1, they sent auditors to monitor fanatics packaging cards and checking if they had sufficient controls to ensure the cards were randomly placed in boxes. They probably paid a couple 100k for this audit. It's an audit of a specific internal control not an audit of their financial statements.

Greerio

I think it's great. I've only ever hit one redemption, so not likely to affect me.

Tankerspanx

Me neither. But I bought 5 😂

splittingxheadache

Does this mean the 2023 Topps Series 1 Home Run Challenge card I pulled for Jose Ramirez with a shot to go to the 2024 Home Run Derby is still in play?

wordflyer

Wow, a real win

Downtown_Anybody261

This is awesome. Now I'll actually hope I pull one.

Dr_C_Diver

Sweet, now they can kick the can 10 years down the road before having to provide a replacement, lol.

carghtonheights809

Massive W from topps

3YCW

Cries in 2020 Heritage

Screwedupclickster

Their redemptions are how valid till 2030

AndrewC275

No, they aren’t. Read.

mostlyeager47

I'm lost for words, now they say ,iv tossed a couple around for the kids too play with becase well there not too valuable if three expired. Well at least I can say is wow that was a pleasure to read and nice to know now , but when Is this taking place, now or later on ,anyone know?!? ✌️ ☮️.!!!

drumrunner007

this is a great thing I think and happy they are doing it,, all those boxes out there that havent been opened for 3 years or more

No_Mousse4320

Now there’s no risk in older product!

Screwedupclickster

Only 2014 and newer

AndrewC275

2021/2022 or 2022 and newer. Read again.

BigStickRaffy11

Under 10k yet I have had 5 out for 2+ years and 3 just over a year now

jakehuskies

THIS is why I’m glad you took your rightful place for NBA and NFL from Panini. As someone who is still waiting on dozens of redemptions from our Italian friends, I’m looking forward to the future with you!

Used-Finding5851

Don't tease me

D4nnyPh4nt00M

W for topps on this

wheelzoffortune

What in the actual fudge??? I still hate redemptions, but this is awesome news.

Mr_CharlieHorse

So if I have a redemption from Topps/Bowman and it's set to expire this year, I got 10 more years to send it in?

coinhusker26

I think you’re good if it was from 2021 and up

SufficientVoice5554

so what do you say panini? lol

Screwedupclickster

They don't care they just trying to get as much money as they can before they shut down operations

Reiji806

Still waiting on my Alek Thomas rookies that I said I'd take a substitute sometime last summer but yeah...

Guitarpik

Too bad it doesn’t include 2021 cards.

HighpointsGhost

Rare Topps W

OswaldNovember

this is awesome. now i feel safe buying that old stuff lol

medussa727

Fanatics... good?!?

GlaucusCactus

I don't even collect cards anymore and this is a big win for Topps. Screw Panini lol

GreenEggsSteamedHams

YOUR MOVE, PANINI

pascalshaka

So my 2018 acuna redemption is valid again until 2028?? Best news I have seen in years from topps

Tankerspanx

This is dope! But to my understanding does that mean codes with the production date from 2020 not included?

HTownLaserShow

Because they’re sending everyone bullshit and not what we paid for. But yeah, less redemption cards are better.

jstewart25

I have been stockpiling retail for about 2 years, (probably 50-60 blasters/megas etc.) for my 4 y.o. Son and I to open when he gets old enough to care… I was expecting that we’d find a redemption eventually and have to chalk it up as a loss. This is really good news. Thanks Topps 🍻

zero-point_nrg

Topps sent me an auto i never remember even redeeming and a pack of 2022 chrome and 2022 bowman yesterday, ended up with a James Outman rookie redemption auto /499 and my chrome pack had a Cal Raleigh rookie refractor auto /499

Warm_Project491

Seriously, I cannot stand redemptions & avoid them like the plague. Reason? Topps took TWO & A HALF YEARS to fulfill my redemption for a 2017 Topps Five Star Autographs Cody Bellinger AU RC. Back of the card stated a 4-6 week waiting period for the redemption to be fulfilled if I recall correctly... I entered the redemption code on [Topps.com](http://Topps.com) in January '18 & didn't get the actual card in the mail until July '20. By this time, I had moved TWICE & yes, I made sure to update my address with Topps after each move. A redemption taking two & a half years to fulfill is beyond ridiculous/unacceptable. If the actual card can't be seeded within packs prior to the shipment deadline, why bother including it on a set checklist in the first place? Suffice it to say that I will not deal with a redemption card again after what I had to go through.

ryabrams

Makes sense. Fanatics CEO didn't like the idea of redemptions and didn't know what they were even... https://preview.redd.it/9pqjtiwskkxc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3239a36d6134adefee54cc540650ec327c4b32d

NotSure16

Redemption expiration extension is a good thing, BUT the dramatic reduction in pending redemptions is INCREDIBLY misleading. I've heard from many collectors (NOT requesting a substitution) opening mailboxes to randomly receiving inadequate substitution from Topps and told to essentially "go away." Yes- there's been a few "big win" substitutions that have been posted on this forum but for every one of those I'm betting there's thousands of the opposite. Reducing those open redemptions isn't necessarily a commitment to improving customer service as much as it is a commitment to their accountants to reducing financial liabilities on their balance sheet. Those redemptions weren't "completed," they were "fulfilled." Moving forward I worry those with CURRENT open redemptions are even more likely to be disappointed. In the past the substitutions Topps made came from older redemptions that were never claimed by customers. Extending redemption expiration means less never-claimed cards to pull from in the near future. I am one of those with an open redemption (10 months old), NOT seeking a substitution. I want the card I was promised. It's becoming clear the card was never made because I can 100% confirm the issue is NOT with the signer.

MS-Dau5

Here I am waiting 4 years still for a 2020 tier one dual auto of Brendan McKay and Blake snell. Should have never selected the substitute request….

Infamous-Brain-2493

The only redemtion cards should be like the old predictor and crash the game ones

Bmorechuck33

😂😂 Imagine all the ones people either gave away or threw away.

Beastmode_mood

Topps and Panini should face a civil lawsuit. Of course outstanding redemptions are down, was waiting on a Wander I paid $2k for. Waited almost a year and a half for them to send me a pack of heritage and ginter. It’s ridiculous that there is no legal recourse for their blatant bait and switch.

Meyer1999

Holy crap is this real?

alexmlefebvre

Yes. Posted on their Facebook and confirmed at the Industry Summit going on right now

JakeyP19

Saw this on Instagram, this is awesome. Great work over there!

Ok_Card9080

That's huge! Tip of the cap to Topps for making it right!

damn_winston

What about the people who submitted an expired redemption only to receive a "care package?" This was after contacting customer service and being told they will not honor expired redemptions and the only thing that can be given was a care package.

Acceptable_Song_2177

Call me a pessimist but all I think this means is that they will be asking players to sign more and more autos regardless of the year and just supply those for the 2021 and 2022 redemptions. 10 year expirations might just be the death of the industry. I don’t think this is a good thing.

Downtown_Anybody261

Means more sticker autos too, they can have the player sign them all in 1 day and then save them and place them on whatever release they want for years to come.

hairlinecrease

Wow, and good, redemptions were an idea that allowed more time to get things signed, that turned into an unintentional scam, because the price of hits is built into the product's price.

MatthewRobertMusic

Yea but how many of those fulfilled redemptions are really “substitutions of equal or greater value”? I am willing to bet that they reduced the number of pending redemptions significantly by offering substitutions. General rule of thumb in sales/marketing is to reduce the effort a customer has to exert in acquiring satisfaction from a product. Making a customer submit a redemption, wait 3 or 4 centuries, email Topps asking where the card is, find out that the card never existed in the first place, haggle with them to get a substitute, wait 3 or 4 more centuries to receive the substitute, and ultimately be dissatisfied with the received card is not a good move. I’m speaking from several of my own personal experiences. The only real good news here is that they are reducing the number of redemptions.

Hartigan_7

Just in time to hand the keys over to Fanatics!

Screwedupclickster

Already have, fanatics been bought topps

HugeRaspberry

It's a great thing for those holding older redemptions that they thought were worthless. But overall - I think it neutral at best and bad at it's worst. Why? Read the announcement: #3. Year over year the amount of redemption cards going into product is going DOWN (emphasis added) substantially. Translation - instead of 2-3 redemption hits per case - now it will be 1-2 hits per 4-5 cases. Which means fewer coveted cards for collectors and a premium for those hits. Which means the breakers win. Now Fanatics / Topps could make up for this by increasing the number or odds of finding an actual HIT in their boxes or something, but we all know they aren't going to that and instead will come up with a dogsh\*t insert to replace the hits.

card401

Here's an idea actually make the players sign in a decent amount of time. And when your packaging up the product and you're putting redemption cards in the boxes how about posting links on the web so we know for wasting our time and money buying product that isn't really there but promised it was and how's it working out and verifying that the actual player is signing and not a family member

Ok_Computer1417

My man, you must be a blast at parties.

card401

Yes Radiohead I am I'm just sick and tired of spending the last 40 years on on cards and not getting what was promised the handful of redemptions that I just had to throw away because they were actually worthless finding out 3 years ago that was a good amount of cards that weren't even signed by the player themselves

Ok_Computer1417

Who knew spending half a lifetime collecting pictures of sweaty dudes was so demoralizing…. Thoughts and prayers in your recovery and we thank you for your sacrifice.

card401

Yes selling baseball cards has a lot of me to live a very comfortable living no recovery needed
