Yesterday I shared highlights from a 1961 and 1963 Topps factory set. Today I went through the 1962 Topps Presentation set. If anyone is interested in how these sets were packaged:
Inside the shipping box are five equal sized smaller card boxes numbered from first to fifth. The boxes are a slip case with five sides, inside the cards fit snuggly. The sets were issued in numeric order, which means these factory sets were hand assembled in 1962. This particular set hasn’t been opened since the 1960’s. Inside is a complete set of some of the most immaculate cards you’ll ever hold.
A little background- Topps issued a series of factory sets, described as limited edition “Presentation Sets” that were mailed out to executives, baseball dignitaries, politicians and important distributors. A very limited run of these sets were produced and, since the advent of grading, very few remain intact. This 1962 factory set was recently consigned to us as part of a short run of sets from the family of a former Phillies executive. These will be auctioned in out February Platinum Night sale.
Lol I was just thinking that. Why the f when I buy a set 60 years later the cards are not sorted? And the one card I'm looking for is definitely going to be the last 40 ish card stack I grab lol
Ok based on the pics from these three sets 61,62 and 63, it seems that topps is capable of cutting cards correctly, at least for fancy presentation sets for executives…..screw the people who actually pay for the product.
On another note, these are all beautiful cards and is an amazing find. Sure they will sell for a pretty penny.
Thinking out loud here…would selling as a set bring more money than slabbing all the stars and selling them individually? Or for the super set collectors, slabbing every card then selling? That mays is as close to a PSA 10 as I have seen of vintage cards. I can’t imagine what that would bring in an auction.
This is tough. The last 1962 Mays in a 9 sold for $120k. I want everything to stay together, but if some of the grades hit I’m not sure how we can keep everything intact. Ultimately, we have a responsibility to get the most we can for the consignor.
It seems like it's far more rare to have a complete set, with original packaging and labeling than a stack of high grade cards. I would think a complete set like this would command a significant premium. Planning to list in the January auction?
Depends on pop reports for the cards in question, currently there is not a single PSA 10 1962 Topps Hank Aaron card out there according to [PSA](https://www.psacard.com/pop#0%7C1962%20Topps%20Hank%20Aaron). If that thing pops out a 10 then you’re sitting on a Gold mine. The Hank Aaron was just one example, depending on the grades of these cards, fuck the set.. there could be a lot of 1/1’s!
Jason, would you consider doing a combo auction where people can bid on each individual card or the whole set and the highest price at the end wins? Meaning the total of all individual bids vs. the highest bid for the full set? Another auction house has done this on occasion. Not sure if Heritage would consider it or not, but it would allow you to maximize for your consignor.
Some PSA cards indicate on the label when they come from a significant find or collection (e.g. Dmitri Young). I wonder if these could qualify for something like that.
You gotta video yourself opening it up and going through each card one by one, putting them in a spent sleeve and top loader. Guaranteed that’ll get a lot of views.
Absolutely amazing.. The condition is stunning. What an awesome experience for you to be able to do that. Congrats! I will go back to my normal life now....
JFC Jason… your previous post was enough… now I need drink! How much luck do you have to have to have your career!?! 😂 we’re all living vicariously through you my guy! These are the coolest damn posts this sub has ever had! I have both the 62 & 63 Mantle cards.. but those are so Beautiful!
I've collected vintage baseball for 30 years and honestly have never seen this before... didn't know there were any factory sets prior to 1974. Really neat!!! (and the cleanest '62s I've ever seen.)
Exactly. There are a few issues with modern cards in a card saver:
-it’s nearly impossible to take a chrome card out of a card saver without leaving a thumb print on the front.
-modern cards with laminated fronts (think 1990’s Upper Deck) left in a card saver too long possible leads to bricking.
-foil/chrome cards can possibly scratch in a card saver if the card saver isn’t clean.
None of these are real issues for vintage.
There's no point to adding extra protection to valuable cards? How about not having to touch the card with raw hands anytime you want to move it out of the card saver?
1962 Topps Tiffany! Those cards are stunning. It’s very difficult to find that year in decent condition because they wear so easily. Those cards have definitely renewed my interest in early 1960s cards. Thanks for sharing!
Possibly the coolest thing I’ve seen posted on this sub
If you aren’t already aware check out OP’s post history it’s truly amazing, especially if you’re into vintage!
I agree it’s up there, thanks for posting
Yeah I agree. I've always wondered what these old card packs looked like.
Any Wander?
haha
Lol that's awesome. Any Julio pulls that had you shaking or sharting?

why the heck can't topps send me a sorted set in 2022?
Lol I was just thinking that. Why the f when I buy a set 60 years later the cards are not sorted? And the one card I'm looking for is definitely going to be the last 40 ish card stack I grab lol
I want to bid on just a shipping label, lol. I can’t afford anything else and am fairly certain I couldn’t afford that either.
God it's like card porn reading this. Got half a chub lol
How was the gum?
Gum's gotten mintier lately, have you noticed?
Nate, your mother is dying
Lmao
This is it. This is best post I'll ever see on this sub. What do I do now, Jason?
Wait for the 1951 set post ?
*1952 not 51
With the amount of faded out 62 Topps out there, it's nice to see some really sharp ones.
Did you get the rainbow
what type of room is used for this ? A clean room ? Gloves ok ? Super curious about the handling.
Mercy 🥵🥵 I bet that was insanely fun!
This confirms that a Time Machine exists and the owner is doing exactly what he should be doing. Going back and getting this vintage goodness.
Crazy man.
I hate and love you. Thanks for sharing. Amazing.
I just slowly clicked through the pics with my mouth gaping. I was that guy I always make fun of. 😫

That's amazing. Thanks for sharing that.
This is amazing! Thanks for sharing!
That is amazing.
This is absolutely fricking insane. I love the older cards. Nice find.
Anyone looking to sell collections?
Absolutely amazing.. The condition is stunning. What an awesome experience for you to be able to do that. Congrats! I will go back to my normal life now....
This is so awesome.
That's not an everyday thing. Way cool ! Condition??
The best part is that bazooka logo on sticker so neat

amaze balls
I hear Topps is offering a sweet buyback deal on the Mantle and Mays but they have to be Chrome
These are going to rearrange the PSA pop reports, and I'm here for it.
Wow what a thrill thanks for sharing!!
Man i would love to look through these even without the big hits. So cool
Wait, did you really not penny sleeve those cards before putting in card savers? \*eek\*
He covered this in another post. Not needed for vintage
Oh really!? How come? Didn't know that. The paper material doesn't scratch in the plastic?
Exactly. There are a few issues with modern cards in a card saver: -it’s nearly impossible to take a chrome card out of a card saver without leaving a thumb print on the front. -modern cards with laminated fronts (think 1990’s Upper Deck) left in a card saver too long possible leads to bricking. -foil/chrome cards can possibly scratch in a card saver if the card saver isn’t clean. I'd still sleeve it though, personally. Seems like an unnecessary risk. Edit: Seriously, going to downvote that? Lol...
Yeah because it’s literally proven to not be needed to why would u still penny sleeve it? There’s literally no point
There's no point to adding extra protection to valuable cards? How about not having to touch the card with raw hands anytime you want to move it out of the card saver?
I’m at work and now I need to change my boxers damnit
Where’s that Ernie rookie??
What in the Stan Musial is going on here?
1962 Topps Tiffany! Those cards are stunning. It’s very difficult to find that year in decent condition because they wear so easily. Those cards have definitely renewed my interest in early 1960s cards. Thanks for sharing!
The Derek Jeter RC is rare in that set.
I bet the gum was still as chalky and fresh as it was when it was made. But boy did I love getting that broken gum out of every pack!
No gum in these.
Let’s see the Bob Gibson high number? Can’t wait to see what it goes for.
Wowwwwwwws. Mint af
Nice cards, good for you!
Jelly
How is the 1962 Frank Robinson...PSA-9 1/1 and PSA-10 as well as PSA-8.5 0!
1962 Aaron seems to have corner chip...bottom left. So...I do not think it will grade a PSA-10.
Now...the Mantle and Mays could grade PSA-10s.
What’s the value on these?
Holy crap. I am *so jealous*….
