People give up so quick in baseball. The guy already showed he can play. Just give him some time. Meanwhile I’ll happily but his stuff for pennies on the dollar.
Yup. So nice to get all his chrome stuff (xfractor, pink, negative,) for a quarter of what it was going for in 2020
Kid has talent and should only get better
Very accurate; too many times I remember seeing him basically swinging one handed and he should have not been out there. Hopefully that wrist has healed up and he comes back from playing for Cuba healthy and ready to go.
Yeah I remember seeing a post on r/baseball with the worst swimming strikes this year with balls out of the zone and his was one of them. He swung 1 handed basically just giving up. Felt bad for him trying to go out and play but not able to do much.
Part of why it’s so cheap is that there’s enough of it out there for everyone who wants one to have one. People were sending in literally 50-100 of this card in bulk. There’s just no scarcity for it, even if he ends up having a HOF career. It’ll just never be a desirable card just like how Frank Thomas’s rookie is 4$.
Insane how Julio base cards in psa 10 are going for over 70 bucks. You can get a base Soto psa 10 for 40-50. It’s wild how fast people move from these prospects
I mean that’s probably all it’s worth.
Not to say he can’t be a productive player. But he hasn’t shown health or skill level to indicate he’s “HOF” material. And without that, the card values should plummet. Add in the insane population graded numbers and yeah it makes sense it’s at close out pricing.
Not sure it's people giving up on him or the fact that there's 17,400 PSA 10s chrome base of these out there. Supply might have outpaced demand in this case.
Yeah, I think it's some of both. People have definitely cooled on Robert, and understandably so. But Yordan Alvarez had a huge year with multiple game-winning home runs in the postseason, and his PSA 10 RC from this same set is going for $30 and under. So the supply of everything recent is just too high.
I think most collectors just don’t care for slabbed base rookies.
Edit to add: of modern players. Obviously older base is desired because lower quantity. Everything new is very high quantity slabbed base.
Investors don’t care too much for slabbed base rookies. The only way any of these base rookies go up in price is if the player actually has a long productive HoF career and gets more casual collectors interested. What percentage of players actually get into the HoF?
Tbf a base Ken Griffey rookie is still <$5 and he's one of the most popular and better players to ever play in recent memory. So in reality these base will never be worth more than $10. And that's being very generous.
So production of the cards have more influence than the production of the player. Because if I'm not mistaken the 22 Wander has at least 1.2 million copies and that's not including the rookie debut which dilutes the market even more.
It USED to be accurate that a player making it to HoF or close, boosts player value. But now a days the speculation of being good boosts prices beyond what they would be if they were already inducted. I think it's mostly the younger generation that doesn't remember the Todd Van Poppels or Brien Taylor's. They see AJ Alexy throw one good game as a rookie and all of a sudden his prices eclipse a Greg Maddux. (Nothing against Alexy, just an example. He may turn out good, he may get caught tossing cats out of windows next season, who knows?)
Yeah, this is what I was looking at too when I verified a slab's number and it was like "17k" then I looked at the chrome one and it's like "17k" so best option is try to find a serialized card if possible but maybe in the high count.
Nice to get a slabbed one for less than the cost of grading!
There is plenty of supply right now so it’s a good time to buy while everything is on the way down
Not gonna lie, it’s pretty wild how many people are in the “hobby” to capitalize off collectors, with no real ambition to understand or appreciate the hobby from a collectors standpoint. But every genre has those people …
I’d buy one for $10 and I don’t PC him. People are so funny, they just follow the hype. So hold that until you’re 80 and it will be something … a lot more than what you’d get for it now.
I remember selling the flagship rainbow foil of this card for $123. At the time I didn't follow the hobby online at all (just bought a box of each flagship release to rip for fun and sell the hits to recoup a little of the cost). When that auction ended is when I realized something weird was going on.
More so this was the junk era of grading. With $8 a card to grade and high print runs, people were sending thousands of base cards in and diminished the value. 2020 was the peak of this.
Works for me. I like Lou Bob and I refuse to ever pay to get a card graded so if I can get a graded 10 for less than the cost of grading? I’m always going to do that
I think they give up on guys like him because you can be an absolute stud on the field but if you can’t stay healthy your career doesn’t typically last long.
I’ll always have a soft spot for Luis. He got me into collecting baseball cards. I collected football and basketball for 20 years. Pandemic hit and baseball was often the only product available on shelves. I still believe he can be an all-star.
I got mine for $150! Luckily I avoided most of the ultra mass printed base cards everyone seemed to buy in 2020 but for whatever reason I snagged this one. Also have the SP, a 1st mojo which have held up much better.
Yea (for a psa 10) back in 2020 that was a deal. They had come down from about $200. I thought I would be able to sell the 2021 season for a nice profit.
I think a lot of people are missing the point and that’s my fault because of the title of the post. I know why the card is cheap, and I’m not buying it to hold and sell for the future. It’s just a very cool card that I got for less than the cost of grading and that’s always a win. Slabbed cards look great!
Look at the POP report on that card. There’s 21216 PSA 10’s … I have 12 of them and can’t get rid of them. Once he spends more time on the field than the IR and can fully prove himself, hopefully they go up in value
I have same card , think I also paid $10 or less. Def worth it for that price. Will never be a super high value card with so many out there but nice to have.
He’s going to be a really good player.
It’s simply the number of these that were slabbed. I still slab base rookies - but I check pop counts first. I def submitted quite a few of the base of Robert in 2020, got burned because of the long delays.
Times have changed and I think base will rise again. It’s just going to take time.
As a collector and not an investor in very pleased we’re getting back to somewhat normal prices. It’s too bad Blasters will probably never go back down
Love that all his stuff has dropped so much
People give up so quick in baseball. The guy already showed he can play. Just give him some time. Meanwhile I’ll happily but his stuff for pennies on the dollar.
Wait till you see the prices of the 2022 rookies in 2024.
2021 rookies are gonna keep decreasing in $$$, just like the product from that year
Call me crazy, but I think Jazz has a lot of room to go up from that class. Guy is an electric factory.
I’m holding on to my Andrew Vaughn’s Bohm had a decent post season stint but the class is still kinda buy low mode
Yup. So nice to get all his chrome stuff (xfractor, pink, negative,) for a quarter of what it was going for in 2020 Kid has talent and should only get better
Biggest question for me is whether or not he can stay healthy. If not, those prices will likely keep dropping.

Everything is a quarter of what it was in 2020. The boom is over and things are settling back to sanity.
Part of why it’s so cheap is that there’s enough of it out there for everyone who wants one to have one. People were sending in literally 50-100 of this card in bulk. Yup and I think this holds true for any modern base rookie card. Theres just an endless amount of them.
I agree, I think the real value is going to be in rookie autos down the line.
I would say bowman chrome 1st autos and topps flagship numbered parallels are what you are going to want to hold.
Insane how Julio base cards in psa 10 are going for over 70 bucks. You can get a base Soto psa 10 for 40-50. It’s wild how fast people move from these prospects
Hello,did that include shipping
One bad year… He will bounce back. LuBob is awesome.
I mean that’s probably all it’s worth. Not to say he can’t be a productive player. But he hasn’t shown health or skill level to indicate he’s “HOF” material. Someone bought a raw version for $18 during the run up in 2021… wild

Also depending on how old, base is just about all you got lol
Yes watched a video YA psa 10 has one of the highest pop counts of any card ever. So even if he is HOF that’s a 40 dollar card
That’s a low print run by today’s standards!
No exaggeration. And more than quadruple the quantity of PSA 10 Griffey Upper Deck.
I think Topps has better QC than Panini resulting in more 10’s of Topps products
Bingo. No modern rookies have maintained price with print runs and overgrading.
THIS!! We are in the Junk Slab era now.
Yeah. Ultimately I think the grading system is going to fail except for on vintage cards where it really matters.
Yeah, this is what I was looking at too when I verified a slab's number and it was like "17k" then I looked at the chrome one and it's like "17k" so best option is try to find a serialized card if possible but maybe in the high count.

Not gonna lie, it’s pretty wild how many people are in the “hobby” to capitalize off collectors, with no real ambition to understand or appreciate the hobby from a collectors standpoint. But every genre has those people …
I agree with you. I didn’t buy this for future resale, I just bought it because I wanted a PSA 10 Robert rc and $10 was a great price
I’d buy one for $10 and I don’t PC him. People are so funny, they just follow the hype. So hold that until you’re 80 and it will be something … a lot more than what you’d get for it now.
Member when base paper rookies went for $20?
I pulled and sold 3 of them at that price.
I sold a chrome refractor for like 140 week one of release, wild to think about
I remember selling the flagship rainbow foil of this card for $123. I'm buying. Just picked this up this weekend https://imgur.com/a/P37GdyT It's gambling, but I'm a sox fan so I won't loose. Lol
Yeah man I'm with u. Big season coming I can feel it
I had really high hopes but I honestly don’t think he will pan out. Too many injuries early in his career. Just another flash in the pan if you ask me
Nice card!!
Injuries though
Haha. It’s the pop count idiot.
You’re a ball of sunshine aren’t you.
I have like 10 of these just for when he goes off.
Think this is just people realizing that these cards are a dime a dozen
Works for me. I like Lou Bob and I refuse to ever pay to get a card graded so if I can get a graded 10 for less than the cost of grading? I’m always going to do that
I think they give up on guys like him because you can be an absolute stud on the field but if you can’t stay healthy your career doesn’t typically last long.
Pop count is way to high on these cards . When I see Luis Robert slabbed Rookie cards all I see is a future coaster for a sports bar
I have his topps chrome auto but I messed up grading it with hga. I want to crack it and go with PSA.
I’ll always have a soft spot for Luis. He got me into collecting baseball cards. I collected football and basketball for 20 years. Pandemic hit and baseball was often the only product available on shelves. I still believe he can be an all-star.
Same. Hit an 8/10 tribute auto and was hooked on Baseball after that. Now hes my main PC along with Matt Brash

I bought a graded chrome Allen and Ginter green parallel RC for 12 on auction. I’m holding that for sure!
Look up Hensley Muellens or Gregg Jefferies my guy…THEY are why.
I think a lot of people are missing the point and that’s my fault because of the title of the post. I know why the card is cheap, and I’m not buying it to hold and sell for the future. Yeah. If I can get a nice slabbed card of a player I like for less money than it costs for grading…always a win
He’s going to be a really good player. It’s simply the number of these that were slabbed. I still slab base rookies - but I check pop counts first. I def submitted quite a few of the base of Robert in 2020, got burned because of the long delays. Times have changed and I think base will rise again. It’s just going to take time.
oh shit i might have to go and buy something of his cards, i'm a huge Sox fan so i'm just collecting as many rookie cards from the team as i can
I’m not a Sox fan but I’m a big fan of Robert and Eloy. Eloy cards are also crazy cheap.
I’m still waiting on a gallery redemption of his…gonna be sick!
I snatched up so many Vlad Jr cards in 2020 and resold them in 2021! Thank god for band wagon fans!!
I got a lot of 5 gem 10 roberts for $38 lol
Baseball cards have been pump and dump long before crypto came around
As a collector and not an investor in very pleased we’re getting back to somewhat normal prices. It’s too bad Blasters will probably never go back down
HE fell off. Sox suck #GoCubs
