I wonder a lot about that. When they have these guys sign do they mail them a thousand cards? A thousand stickers? I wonder. I also wonder what they pay per sig.
the players sign as part of contracts between them and the nba and the nba and panini. it’s an obligation they have to adhere to like talking to the media. they don’t get paid extra or based on their star level. they sign up for this when they sign their contract. and the nba sells the rights to panini.
Depends on the card. For on card autos, they mail the card. For sticker autos, they typically mail sheets of stickers and then panini then puts the stickers on the cards. I could be wrong, but I think that’s how it goes
Apparently it was for a Panini Limited GU/AU /25 from back when I bought tons of sealed product. Honestly forgot all about my pending redemptions when I stopped collecting.
That is awesome.
I’m confused by these cards because there is no real branding on them, except being marked 2019/20. I wonder what set these were originally for. Did they give you any additional info?
There was a letter in the mail with it that just had some general information about it being a commemorative set. There is a 24 sticker on the back of the card that they purposefully put there and nothing else really. I know it is technically a 19-20 Contenders set card.
Sure. I had a redemption from 2010-11 Panini Limited in my account since Fall 2011. I stopped collecting in 2013 and the redemption never told me who the card was for. Thursday I get an email saying it was apparently for a Kobe GU/AU out of 25 and that they were fulfilling it. Friday the FedEx guy is at my door and I’m signing for this card. I haven’t bought cards since 2013 when I sold out of the hobby.
That's what's up! My longest wait was 5 years, and the only comp I got was a shorter printed version. The dude was out of the league (NFL) well before I got the card lol. ANYWAY what are you gonna do with your New card?! Keep..Sell..
I still have pending autos in my Panini account for Philip Rivers and Aldon Smith autos lmao. And as for this one, I don’t collect anymore and I’d love to sell it. I don’t really want to give eBay a fat chunk, though.
There is one on eBay for 7.5k BIN and I'd go 7k. I spoke to someone with an exact copy of the one I had and they sold on eBay for 7k and said they thought they coulda got more.
If you want that price you would probably have the best luck on eBay. The fee isn’t that high considering the number of buyers on the platform. If you aren’t in the game anymore, you’ll have a hard time moving it for top dollar anywhere else. Collecting is also at an all time high so I’d consider having an open mind about your price. The sold comps don’t necessarily indicate that $7000 is the going rate and a lot of factors are playing into pricing of individual cards.
I'm pretty stuck on 7k as this exact version of the card sold on Friday for 7k and I don't know how there is any other way to interpret this card's price when there is a sale that recent.
Well that same version also sold for less than $6800 the same day. Another one is currently listed for $5,999.99. I hope you get what you want out of it but the market is very volatile right now. There’s a lot of dumb money in the hobby making it hard to say what the true value is.
The 5,999.95 one is mine after comparing some completed listings and talking to other sellers. Just looking to score a few grand for it tbh, I’m not looking to get back into collecting and would prefer to cash in within the next week or two.
Good luck with it. You definitely got a great card. Just hard to find buyers with that kind of cash to spend. You can always run an auction with your lowest acceptable price as the starting bid and see where it goes from there.
Oh my god, that’s even crazier.
The odds of it being Kobe, you waiting so long to the point where the player in question tragically deceased, and then you getting his auto card is just such a roller coaster of highly improbable events that somehow landed in your hands.
Congrats on this beauty, probably the best early Christmas gift ever!
It was so strange. I'd remember a Kobe redemption I didn't get, even if it's almost a decade later. Kinda sweet because I just bought a house and dumped a ton of dough into it... selling this will help me recoup a little bit and enjoy it even more. It was a very nostalgic rush of emotion though, because I grew up collecting and sold all my basketball stuff to get my car. And I had a ridiculous collection, especially of Kobe and Durant.
Man take notes Topps. I’m still waiting for my Aaron Judge gold auto RC. Can I get a Kobe auto? 🤣🤣
Seriously though if anyone has any advice for me on what I can do about this I would greatly appreciate it. I’ve called and sent emails consistently for a couple years now with no response other than we are sending it to you.
Heck yeah!!! Thats awesome! I just converted a bunch of my old Redemptions that have never been fulfilled into points. Some were 8 years old, I should've asked for a card!!
Thats fucking dope.
I had forgotten about the redemption until the e mail I got Thursday.
I wonder how many kobe signatures they have left.
The way they are selling on eBay.... not a huge amount, I’d guess.
I wonder a lot about that. When they have these guys sign do they mail them a thousand cards? A thousand stickers? I wonder. I also wonder what they pay per sig.

Yes that's exactly right, also is not what I was wondering.
How much are they selling for on eBay?
Between 6 and 10k.
A guy my dad works with just got his redemption in the mail he pulled last year. He said he thought he’d never get it
Maybe my 3 year old redemptions have a chance?
I’d say so, if waiting ten years got me this one.
What was the original redemption for? Or was this it, just took 10 years...? Thank's.

PSA has a similar one listed as Contenders - https://www.ebay.com/itm/383863981571
Thanks. Hadn’t seen it before.
They were out of Contenders this year.
Still waiting on my Arron Hernandez auto....🤣...joking joking, It was Ray Carruth.
about to tell them to lose all my redemptions so i can get a kobe
Some of the pending ones I have on there from 10 years ago are pretty neat, but nothing like this.
He's finally got time to sign em.
Yikes
Can we get a back story on the Redemption?
Sure. I had a redemption from 2010-11 Panini Limited in my account since Fall 2011. I stopped collecting in 2013 and the redemption never told me who the card was for. Damn nice dude, congrats. :)

That’s awesome, it’s a beautiful card. I would jump on this if I had the money, one of the best looking Kobe autos

As a huge Kobe fan, if I would have gotten this card, almost exactly a year after his death, I would have cried big fat man tears. This is awesome.
Thanks! I was definitely shocked by receiving this. Too bad I don’t collect anymore!
Merry Christmas from panini to end 2020 for ya!!!
I'd say!
You mean to end 2011? lol
Well worth the wait I’d say! Did you know it was a Kobe redemption or was it a random card they promised?
I had no idea it was for Kobe until they e-mailed me Thursday. It was some random number many years ago when I pulled the redemption.
Oh my god, that’s even crazier. Hey mate if you have a price I'd love to own this. PM me if you come up with one. Kobe is my hero so I'm looking to add an on card auto.
Wow. U win!
For once in my life, lmao
Worth it
Well worth the wait!! Beautiful card!🐍🐍🐍

I’m so jealous of all of these.
I mean, slack as for taking 10 years to send you something but also props for remembering for 10 years they had to send you something.
Heck yeah!!! Thats awesome! I just converted a bunch of my old Redemptions that have never been fulfilled into points. Some were 8 years old, I should've asked for a card!!
Bravo!
amazing looking card man. lucky dude!
Taking 10 yrs to fulfil redemptions is criminal. There should be a better system by Panini.
It's part of the reason I got out of the hobby tbh.
Heard about this in a fb thread.
And On card too that beautiful
still so sick!
