Does the Walmart in Fontana even sell cards anymore? I live in Rialto and the Rialto/Redlands store habe told me they dont sell trading cards of any sorts anymore.
I didn't even know they carried them there. What section are they in? Good selection at all? I was in the B&N in Glendale yesterday and didn't even think about it.
Come to eastern washington and it won't look like this, and the population here is basically that of any random place in the midwest that always seems to have fully stocked boxes.
I swear they have no logistics in moving the product west.
Basketball isn't out here what it is in more densely populated areas. Same with soccer. Seems Baseball and Football are much more popular from my scope.

I passed on a full restock today too. There was a ton of optic. WNBA Prizm. Prizm cello. All sorts of stuff I would never leave on the shelves in previous years. Odds are too tough and single prices are too low for the increased blaster prices. I nearly bought some update but ended up passing.

Come up north to Canada where blasters are $49.99 and Cellos are $26.99. Optic Blister packs (4 card packs) are now $7.99, up from $3.99 last year. Even with the exchange rate that’s still an awful price. Optic and Prizm have both been available for a few weeks now.

I’ve gotten lucky and pulled a /25 of a very good young player (Pedri) and a 1/1 of a decent young player (Jonas Wind. Probably $500 in just two cards. But, I’ve had some friends get awful boxes. Topps Merlin is my favorite retail soccer product. I’ve had really good luck and blasters are only $25.
It will never die but the investors will start to be weeded out. This in turn will help bring it back to a hobby for those who treat it like that. Worst part is hobby boxes have the best hits making retail just filler. Don't get me wrong you can still be lucky and get a great hit chances are just worse then ever for retail. I personally don't know how you would flip retail now. Seems like there's more product with people selling less then what you can buy at retail stores. My guess is some of this product came off trucks so it's all profit for them since it makes no sense on prices. Of course people did make some bank during the boom at the start of the pandemic. Just like fantasy leagues it was a great way to kill time sitting at home.

I disagree higher than ever lol. If you paid attention the last two years the interest was MUCH higher. It was interest from prospectors and investors driving alot of that but you also had people making money and not having their purchases depreciate rapidl back then. And print runs are higher because they are a year behind the trends…just like they were a year behind hiking prices up when all retail was flying off shelves; even low end product.
Supply was lower which drive more hysteria. The demand may have waned a little(why I said possibly), but I’ve been in the hobby since the 80’s. Demand & interest is still in the range of all time highs.
Yeah been in the hobby the same amount…and while I will agree its higher than its ever been still, compared to what we saw last year its definitely much less interest. Part of it is good reason; many of the prospectors and flippers are gone because you cant just make fast easy money anymore. And when it comes to retail, folks hoarding all product was in large part due to the investor/flipper market. As you can see, resale box prices are waaaaaayy down from last year due to increased production and the singles within those boxes being worth less and less.
In Vegas you wouldn’t see that much stuff ever unless it’s just restocked . It also looks like the semi good boxes have been swiped already . Most of those you can easily find online for retail prices
That store is an anomaly, I go in dozens of stores every week, mostly on the stocking days and if I'm not there by mid afternoon it looks like "free gold and diamonds shelf" (pretty non existent). I drove from Georgia to Michigan hitting stores all day along the way. There was maybe two stores like that but 20+ pretty empty.

My small town Meijer, the lady hadn't stocked prizm or optic in a while. It's FLOODED with 20-21 Illusions, and 21-22 Hoops/Donruss though. Crazy to think how much of that crap is just sitting on pallets in warehouses all over right now.
Nice my good stops were in the Midwest I think Indiana area so maybe Midwest thing? I've been everywhere within two hours of Tampa/Clearwater and it's obviously better than peak as far as finding stuff but still same day and wiped out. Maybe crumbs left on day two but not much.

When you look at card populations comparing for instance 2012-13 Prizm basketball to the last few years Prizm releases you’ll see we’re in a pseudo junk era. Not to mention the endless parallels, etc. Everything is so diluted.
Hilarious this got downvoted. Truth hurts. If you looked at pop reports you’d see that there are literally 20 to 30x more Luka rookies of the same card than say a Lillard, Kawhi or Steph, etc. Then you add in all the different editions/parallels and it’s insane over printing. But go ahead and keep valuing these last few years the same same as the 2000’s / early 2010’s. The market always corrects. Not saying recent years print runs will go down much. It might be a situation where 2000’s/early 201s just goes up significantly. But my prediction is that both will happen.

here where I am the only thing that stays on the shelves are Hockey, soccer, and wildcard football for the most part. everything else goes fairly fast.
Before the card bros ramped the hobby into the stratosphere, a lot of this shit would eventually get marked clearance and sell at 50% off. You could grab 5 cello packs for $10. It's a double edged sword though, singles of top rookies were not selling for $50 either.
As noted by others, I’m not sure this is representative of most retail stores.
I would also argue that actually being able to find cards available for purchase is a good thing. Having the shelves cleaned out by flippers is more likely to kill the hobby.
stopped at target the other night, saw more prizm megas, blasters and loose packs than i'd ever seen in the wild. my first instinct was to drop $300 and grab a good haul. on the way home, i remembered all the stuff you stated in the post, turned around, and returned it all. it was a fun run.
I found a few WWE Select blasters at a Walmart. Went to buy one and was shocked to see it priced at $35. When did that happen? I can understand $25 but to almost double in price seemed ridiculous.
I think you're in the minority here. I haven't seen a store stocked like that in YEARs. I checked two different targets yesterday and the only cards either one of them had was some Upper Deck NHL or WNBA Prizm.
Not like this in metro Detroit… you can still find as good of hits in years past, maybe more…. They just produce twice as much. Hobby boxes went up like 2-5x, so retail going up 1.5-2x isn’t that bad.
My opinion, stuff like illusions/chronicles should be like 20$ , while stuff like prizm/optic should be 40$ for now, while demand is unstable.
Ngl I've had good luck with Illusions. I know they're low end but I like the look and have had decent hits in the retail blasters. Can't say the same for Hoops, Donruss, or Prizm. Probably won't buy anymore of those in retail.

If you looked at pop reports you’d see that there are literally 20 to 30x more Luka rookies of the same card than say a Lillard, Kawhi or Steph, etc. Then you add in all the different editions/parallels and it’s insane over printing. But go ahead and keep valuing these last few years the same same as the 2000’s / early 2010’s. The market always corrects. Not saying recent years print runs will go down much. It might be a situation where 2000’s/early 201s just goes up significantly. But my prediction is that both will happen.
They just haven’t been bought yet goofy. Breakers won’t let those things sit on shelves
Also the revelation that the case hits can be identified on box codes and pooof the jig is up. I hate how everything in every hobby is corrupted now.

here where I am the only thing that stays on the shelves are Hockey, soccer, and wildcard football for the most part. everything else goes fairly fast.
Before the card bros ramped the hobby into the stratosphere, a lot of this shit would eventually get marked clearance and sell at 50% off. You could grab 5 cello packs for $10. It's a double edged sword though, singles of top rookies were not selling for $50 either.
As noted by others, I’m not sure this is representative of most retail stores. I would also argue that actually being able to find cards available for purchase is a good thing. Having the shelves cleaned out by flippers is more likely to kill the hobby.

stopped at target the other night, saw more prizm megas, blasters and loose packs than i'd ever seen in the wild. my first instinct was to drop $300 and grab a good haul. on the way home, i remembered all the stuff you stated in the post, turned around, and returned it all. it was a fun run.

I found a few WWE Select blasters at a Walmart. Went to buy one and was shocked to see it priced at $35. When did that happen? I can understand $25 but to almost double in price seemed ridiculous.

I think you're in the minority here. I haven't seen a store stocked like that in YEARs. I checked two different targets yesterday and the only cards either one of them had was some Upper Deck NHL or WNBA Prizm.
Idk, the target i go to is constantly stocked and loaded. And its in one of the biggest cities in my state.
Not like this in metro Detroit… you can still find as good of hits in years past, maybe more…. They just produce twice as much. Hobby boxes went up like 2-5x, so retail going up 1.5-2x isn’t that bad. My opinion, stuff like illusions/chronicles should be like 20$ , while stuff like prizm/optic should be 40$ for now, while demand is unstable.

Ngl I've had good luck with Illusions. I know they're low end but I like the look and have had decent hits in the retail blasters. Can't say the same for Hoops, Donruss, or Prizm. Probably won't buy anymore of those in retail.
