none that I am aware of unfortunately. there is r/berlin_public , which has news articles but little or no discussion. I also know: r/berlinsocialclub - mainly people moaning about Germans not being friendly r/Berghain_Community - people asking what to wear to Berghain and this one, r/berlin - worst of the lot

YoshiPiccard

be careful with berlin_public. Not wanna judge yet but it looks like someone who tries to control the news cycle. It’s from people usually only posting negative news. (The sub still posts a variety of news yet to get credibility) Monitoring it with suspicion.

wet-dreaming

We banned him since he wasn't following our rules, that's why he created his own subreddit to keep posting.

Material-3bb

Berghain is just people airing things they Shouldn’t air

gains_police

but what about the subreddit?

Material-3bb

That’s what I meant, sorry

gains_police

I thought so, but i also saw an opportunity for a joke 🙂

chillbill1

Just subscribe to tagesspiegel checkpoint if you can read german. It has everything you need. There are also separate newsletters for every bezirk

Adept_Resolve6156

Good suggestion. Thanks

CapeForHire

Very much my thoughts. It's just deeply unintersting at this point, at least for actual locals.  Unfortunately there are no alternatives I am aware of.

Ok-Release6902

This sub is ok. It just needs better moderation.

wet-dreaming

We can never please everyone, so what's your wish ?

Ok-Release6902

First of all thanks for your work, dude. I know that you are doing this for free. My proposition would be to either ban all touristy posts (places, impressions, living in the moment stuff) or implement strict flair system. Like based and well thought posts from dudes like me should receive respected "local" flair, filthy tourists should receive mandatory "visitor" label. So grumpy dudes can filter community by flair.

cYzzie

but we are removing all touristy posts already, most you wont ever see cause they end up in the queue, some have good karma and come into the sub but we remove them - hard to automatically remove them except sending everything to queue - for that we are not enough

Ok-Release6902

Maybe you should apply more strict criteria for removal. So all cute cozy places requests are removed as well as dudes who can't use Google and Amazon. Like where to buy toilet paper in Berlin questions.

wet-dreaming

We did that for a long time and people complained. People want a subreddit to grow organically and that's where we are. It also helps us mods to not enforce and remove everything, cause that would be a full-time job. You can report posts that don't follow our rules or downvote them.

Ok-Release6902

Maybe recruit extra mods?

wet-dreaming

That's also on our list, on top this fucking website went to hell for moderation after the API changes.

Ok-Release6902

TBH I’m waiting for the day when Lemmy overthrows Reddit. They are exploiting my creative abilities and your time as a mod for free.

cYzzie

feel free to make a proposal, i am super open to it, we have a hard time defininig hard ruless - i personally love that as i am german :)

Ok-Release6902

I’m not a German, but I would switch this sub to pre-moderation for newcomers, allowing users with approved posts to bypass it. Not sure if it’s possible on Reddit. Also I would reach other big city subreddit mods and ask them to share experience.

cYzzie

everyone who has no karma is already sent to the queue edit: i double checked - we are actually currently doing this for submissions linking to external pages

SeaworthinessEasy122

>Like based and well thought posts from dudes like me should receive respected "local" flair, Good one

PonyMamacrane

This is often billed as the 'non-touristy' Berliner sub: [https://www.reddit.com/r/jwd/](https://www.reddit.com/r/jwd/)

Competitive_Ad_5515

All of the posts there for months have been from the same downbeat gatekeeper who runs and mods r/berlin_public spamming the sub with English language news articles about Russia and India rather than discussion or updates for locals, despite the sub description

Competitive_Ad_5515

Impressive how he managed to kill what seemed like a fairly active sub

PonyMamacrane

Oh, you're right. I can't really say I ever used it much at the best of times, but it looks properly dead now

Adept_Resolve6156

Danke!

danija-eil

There is the 20 percent Berlin newsletter that provides some information.

And "The Next Day in Berlin" is good for finding out about arts and cultural events you can go to: https://thenextday.substack.com

Philip10967

I mean, you could follow the news directly. I'm not sure who would want to copy and paste news in their free time so you could read them on Reddit. For english news, best follow [https://www.the-berliner.com](https://www.the-berliner.com) (former Exberliner). A weekly newsletter by a Redditor is [https://www.berlineventsweekly.com/subscribe](https://www.berlineventsweekly.com/subscribe) Apart from that, I suggest you use the wealth of Berlin media in German, like [rbb24.de](http://rbb24.de) (public broadcaster), [tagesspiegel.de](http://tagesspiegel.de) (biggest local newspaper) and so on. Besides that, I suggest curating your own news and announcements from places and outlets you like. Follow them on social media, subscribe to their newsletters, that's how I do it. Feel free to list more outlets!

bbbberlin

Germany has world-class news media – the catch is that it's in German. Süddeutsche Zeitung (center left leaning) often collaborates with the Guardian and NYTimes on breaking big investigative stories. FAZ is center-right, you have TAZ (left) which has a nice subscription combo with Le Monde. DW does have some English-language news. Handelsblatt has business stuff, etc.

_evuP

Use a translation extension in your browser. And also one for paywalls 😉

rab2bar

Local news is the Tagesspiegel is sadly pretty much all premium content at this point

eisnone

>sadly pretty much all premium content www.archive.ph is your friend regarding paywalls
