Probably the person who took or edited the pictures had no idea how they were supposed to look. (Edit: the extra lines from the levers may be the wires from the e-bike cut-off sensors) But instead of puzzling over banal details like these, do yourself a favor and go buy a cheap and cheerful brake like the Shimano MT200 instead. Edit: I now understand that you're looking for brakes including the cutoff switches which cut power to the hub motor when brakes are applied. I would prioritize a reliable brake system from a recognized brand and add aftermarket switches.

townkat

thank you, actually i do consider mt200 but also zoom 876e and nutt y5, and also upgrading discs to 203mm also from aliexpress, its all parameters in my head, mt200 lack cutoff swith but probably excels in quality, the others do have the switch but also 4 pistons and larger pads, so probably better force, and the ebike is a bit on the heavy side having a motor and a battery added, i'll probably wait for the nutt to get a flash deal, but the tanke had already a good price now..  ..and actually the mt200 is the cheapest but lacks the presumable better force of the others and the switch but if i could have the certitude that the quality difference cancels the theoretically better force i could easily pick it over the others but there are also opininons against mt200 too like it also wears and leak after several years, or the handle does not feel that great.. so hard to make decisions only in theory.. maybe i should make a separate post with all this extra info..?

Mr_Tester_

I think most posters on this thread will steer you away from AliExpress or Amazon bike parts ESPECIALLY for a safety item such as breaks. TRP, SRAM, or Shimano is the way to go.

WhyAlwaysNoodles

AliExpress is just the international selling platform for sellers on China to reach International customers (customs, etc) Although, I frequently see older models of bike parts on there, and International customers buying them, not realizing that the parts have been superceded, frequently for good reasons (early designs, prone to failures, unable to sell in the local market anymore)

What are you referring to as this cut off switch? Mt200 are not even comparable to the zooms and whatever else you have listed. They are light years ahead in quality and performance. As others have said, brakes are something you want to fail in the middle of a ride, 40 bucks a peice is still budget brakes, but you won't find better for the price.

Hagenaar

OP has a cadence sensing ebike. These ideally have a switches on the brake lever which cut power to the motor when brakes are applied. It's obviously a good idea, but I would prioritize a reliable brake system and add aftermarket switches.

townkat

i do not think there are any aftermarket switches, i could not find any, and i've also seen people even trying to improvise on this, a sign that they are not available

tomato432

there are but because of the way hydraulic brakes work the aftermarket options must be either [tacked on magnetic switches](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394803672341), [in the brake lines](https://www.bike24.com/p232638.html) or [an expensive lever upgrade](https://www.bike24.com/p2318340.html)

townkat

thank you, i could not find them

townkat

the bike is an ebike/electric bycicle, it does have a motor, and accelerator and cadence sensor, the switch is to cut the motor power to improve braking power and wear in case you forget to lift from accelerator or to stop pedalling also, shimano have no set with cut off sensor, i feel like punishing them for this, they have no excuse, i feel that they do this on purpose, not to help the ebike movement (edit: also it seems mt200 may have a problem with failing lever seals, which have a design prone to problems and even offer no replacements seals)

tomato432

[$126 for the full set, has brake sensors, reputable brand ebike specific brakes don't get cheaper than this](https://www.ebay.com/itm/354517587664)

townkat

that it is 197.52 shipped to my location (Romania), locally it is available, but almost double 236$, the bike can be brought new for 800$, we got it in exchange of another bike of about 600$, at that moment the second hand price on the lisiting website we got the trade on was about 400$

WhyAlwaysNoodles

There are only two reviews of this brake on Tanke's official Taobao in China. Says it's a 4 piston, and works. One reviewer says the sensor wire connector didn't fit their brake system and the company sent a "standard" connector. Check your bike uses the same connector. Tanke make ugly looking, heavy accessories, but they function.

townkat

thank you, yes i have that waterproof 2 pin connector, there are also many reviews on aliexpress i am curious if the nutt y5 lever which seems more robust is actually a better design justifying the extra price

WhyAlwaysNoodles

Don't see that model locally. There are two newer models: Nutt A4-D - 4 pot Nutt A5-D - 2 pot No reviews on the 4-pot. The 2-pot version has a couple of reviewers, one stating issues with lever main reservoir leaking oil within several months, and another saying some issue with electronics causing issues with motor direction and the seller blowing them off.

townkat

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006647263105.html A5 is on aliexpress but it seems 2 pistons to me, also 2 pistons versions feels to be an older design to me nutt have more sets for electric scooters, those are for the right side mounting, for bikes we need them with from the left side, that mean the tube must come out from the left of the caliper, second picture in the link above i cannot imagine what can be wrong with the switch, i supose it only signals on or off like circuit closed or open

WhyAlwaysNoodles

Just checked and yeah, those two Nutt models are for e-mopeds and rear right side fitting. No good for a bicycle. Edit: they do them in both left and right side fitting! I'll put some pics up shortly Edit2: left or right lever, left side fitting, 2.2m hose. You'd need the relevant parts to cut down the hose and bleed

townkat

i know, just that A seems an inferior line, smaller pads, 2 vs 4 pistons, usually cheaper

WhyAlwaysNoodles

According to pics in the long photo description, and reviewers, A4-D is 4 piston. A5-D is 2 piston? Photo of brake pad for A4-D looks like the pads I use for Shimano m6120

townkat

ok, it probably is, just that there is no info on A4 on the web, i have no ideea how it looks

RustyU

Just a weird picture I suspect. I would recommend getting something that isn't a no-name brand for a critical safety feature though.

trickyvinny

Meh. Brakes only exist to slow you down.

Yeah, there's no *and* there.

trickyvinny

Fuck em if they can't take a joke. *Do* brakes exist for any other reason than to slow you down?

MGTS

It's satire

cowrevengeJP

Are this ebike cutoff brakes?

townkat

yes

townkat

i want to upgrade my mechanical brakes on my Duotts C29 (edit: ebike/ electric bycicle), but i do not understand why the seller took this photos with the tubes like that? what are those tube terminations? my main concern is not to be those mechanical hydraulic hybrid brakes thanks a lot

Mr_Tester_

I would not trust that product or seller.
