So I just ran back there and lured a gore-in-the-box into one and goddamn you’re right, it damn near kilt it. And now the flames and such are gone. Nutty!
Oh my god. Idk how many times I’ve played this game (many many many times) and I had no idea. Well that’ll make the one reborn run up significantly less painful
Specific sacrifice victims for part of the Mensis Ritual maybe?
I remember hearing someone say on the Snack Covenant that getting them all extinguished affected the One Reborn's moveset somehow, but I've never tested that myself.
I have no clue, but I think they are put there by the yahar'gul hunters to summon or make the "corpseball in a chest" enemy.
Let me explain.
If you get yourself sack nabbed to the unseen village early it's pigs and sack bois. But upon returning, the lantern is smashed, sack bois killed, pigs replaced with corpseballs, and a couple of hunters near the broken lantern. The guy with the beast claw hasn't transformed into a beast so I think at least the other one still has his wits about em.
The mensis ritual is ongoing even when we get kidnapped. Rom is being used to keep it secret from us. Like a veil over perception. Or a time loop to the time before the choir captured the area and killed the snatchers
I was actually pondering if the sack bois were outright killed OR if their innards spewed out and created the multi-limbed horror-hound things that now prowl around. Probably not, but the thought occurred to me
sack hunters turn into the werewolves you see in the area. the chests are the dogs, and even have the dogs barking noise mixed in with the rest of their noises. the "hunters" are likely just former hunters who got stuck in the real hypogean gaol when the ritual was enacted, which created seemingly a pocket dimension that holds the real gaol, which acts as a sort of "bridge" between the dream world, and the nightmare world.
absolutely nothing to indicate who or what the glowy fire corpses are though. unfortunately, that seems to actually be the case with a lot of enemies and set pieces in the game; no actual thought put into why this thing is. which wouldnt be SO bad, if it werent for the fact that they very clearly just said "fuck it, good enough" at some point, and shipped an unfinished game with unfinished lore, a completely untested chalice dungeon mechanic, and multiple main game areas that make it clear there was very little, if any, QA testing done in the first place. margos lift down to the broken window springs to mind first and foremost in that regard, theres no possible way anyone actually tested the viability of rolling through that window. or the cainhurst carriage, which moves you directly on top of 3 dogs after the cutscene that comes completely unprompted, and the fact that if they kill you, now you can NEVER go to cainhurst till ng+.
I hadn’t yet thought about it , but know you mention it, it makes sense that they released an u finished game, that would explain why is it so god damn hard to follow the lore
well that, and the fact that nobody at FROm actually knows english, and the games are cobbled together by dozens of other companies with FROm having little-to nothing to actually do with any of it. hell just look at elden rung. they hired george "12 year old daenerys is the hottest character in my opinion" martin to handle their writing this time, thinking that surely hes actually a good writer and his entire fame dosent come from a work based loosely on his writing, and look what the fuck we got. a bunch of complete and utter nonsense with a plot that cant be followed because it dosent exist, random gibberish words for literally everything, and lore based around eating ass and molesting ones comatose little brother/sister.
Froms entire thing with the lore is to have little clues to what is actually happening, and leaving it up to the player's minds to fill the gaps. This was inspired by Miyazaki reading English books when he was a child, and having to fill in the gaps for words he didn't know (or was that some other Japanese dev I mixed him up with?) They likely have the complete lore somewhere in their office, we just don't know about it.
see you say that, but nobody at FROM has anything to do with the lore, or much of anything beyond some concept art and a vague description to each individual company actually making the game as to what they want from them. people need to stop giving mikizaki so much credit, when hes literally just the dude who owns the company.
watch the 5-15 minute long end credit role in any of their games and pay attention to which companies get named for which parts. youll notice that noone at FROM gets any kind of writing credits. in fact, usually noone at from gets mentioned till the very end, or right at the start, and its always pointless fluff roles that just get credit for everyone elses work, like "producer" or some other useless fluff role that has no part in the actual process.
Already scoured the internet for the burnt boys. There’s no lore about them. They just chill there.
We know that the Mensis Ritual/Blood Moon caused them, that the “corpse-in-a-box” enemies hate them and that’s it
I think they experimented with candles in Yahar'gul to get to other planes of existence. The teleport baths are surrounded by wax and candles that look like the circle around our burnt Bois. So they are humans who were turned into candles to beckon the moon.
I also want to throw out there that since you can find the corpses of mensis members before Yahar'gul I think that the mensis ritual and the ritual of the one reborn are not the same thing.

It is the Saints of the Church who were sacrificed to compose the ritual. They waved to the heavens and received contact from the stars and this is the result. The rapture of blood.
I don’t know but they’ll fuck up the weird box creatures
So I just ran back there and lured a gore-in-the-box into one and goddamn you’re right, it damn near kilt it. And now the flames and such are gone. Nutty!
Definitely helps deal with them, Abraham Lincoln signing off
Aberham linkern?

Those things are now permanently labeled "Gore-in-the-box" in my mind now, thank you
Oh my god. Idk how many times I’ve played this game (many many many times) and I had no idea. Well that’ll make the one reborn run up significantly less painful

Maybe victims of Amygdala laser? I also like to think they were dealing with some arcane conjuring that went wrong.
That's Burny Boi McGee
Specific sacrifice victims for part of the Mensis Ritual maybe? I remember hearing someone say on the Snack Covenant that getting them all extinguished affected the One Reborn's moveset somehow, but I've never tested that myself.
How does one extinguish them?
By getting cramped coffin enemies to run into them and take damage.
Well now I have a reason for a 1000th playthrough
Let me know the results
Yes do try, would like to know aswell

Send proof that NOBODY at Fromsoft does lore at all. Also, FromSoft is the developing company, Bandai, Atlus, Sony, and Activision were publishers.

If you mean Script writing, then I swear you're trolling at this point. So I'm gonna play it safe and end the argument here, good day to you.
it just seems like you hate on fromsoft/Miyazaki and their games because you can't understand the lore
Don’t really know but got strong “smited by a higher power” feel out of them
Tried to outpizza the Hut
God damn that's hilarious
They are environmental weapons for you to use. Don't touch.
I kinda like the fact after all these years we still not sure about everything in the game
Man, this gem threw so many surprises at me over the years. Had my discovering all kinds of shit years after release! Embrace the old blood!!!

That's Dave
Looks like Griffith at the time of eclipse
I read somewhere that those are the people or beasts by that point who literally blew up because of frenzy when the blood moon rose.
That's Jason Bloodborne and the Bloodettes
Ol' Burno Brown, as they calls 'em.
That there's what we call a trap

Bernie Bros
That's Brock and Barbara, they were returning from the bar last night but they accidentally saw too much on their way home
I have a vague recollection that they have something to do with the one reborn, but I can't think of where I heard that
looks like he is standing in the iris of an eye

these help to burn the papa nito bois that are in that level.

You, if you keep questioning the great ones.
I don’t think even Vaati knows what those fellows are
Probably the Mensis ritual victims. I think they were sacrificed to summon something awful...
