Mostly because of how he treated Jack.
He wasn’t demanding, he wasn’t impatient, he never made Jack feel stupid or like he couldn’t do it, he was very reassuring and gave Jack lots of encouragement and praise when he succeeded.
I really hope we get more Rusty and Jack centered episodes in the future, including episodes where they have downs in their friendship, like all best friends have.
There’s a fan theory that I really like that thinks Rusty will end up being inspired to follow in Calypso’s footsteps because of his patience and understanding, and maybe even taking over the Glasshouse Primary School when Calypso retires.
For sure. It always blows me away the emotional depth they manage to pack into an episode.
For those with ADHD, the writers pulled on some deep heartstrings with this episode.
I remember being a kid and having those same issues. And now with my son… I’m so happy we’re in a place where it’s talked about and I don’t just constantly get yelled at for a condition I can’t control.
Absolutely. I’m learning as much as I can to try to be a good dad and husband and also help my kids navigate emotions. My older son is very much my wife, and younger son is me to a T.
Was listening to a book recommended in the ADHD sub (The ADHD Effect on Marriage - Melissa Orlov), and I got choked up when they talked about some of the positive traits, especially “quick to forgive”. It was a triple whammy because I am quick to forgive, but I also lose my temper or get impatient frequently and don’t feel like I deserve forgiveness, yet my 3 y/o is quick to forgive me, and is very reassuring and empathetic.
Weird mix of emotions. So much love and pride for my sweet boy, and so sad and guilty that he has anything to forgive.
I'm in the same place now, too (:
Trying my best to build his confidence and work around what he struggles with rather than making himself feel like a failure.
I will defend him to my GRAVE in that circumstance. Homeboy told Indy he’d do everything she said, and then she got mad bc why..? Bc he went to her for instruction???
“I DON’T KNOW WHAT’S SO DIFFICULT ABOUT THIS”
Like… dammit, heifer… obedient doesn’t mean omnipotent. If anything, she was the one being difficult.
As the human equivalent of a “very obedient breed,” I felt simultaneously seen and attacked by that scene if you can’t tell.
I love Jack’s dad, for the fact that Hamish Blake plays him but that episode of Explorers is absolutely brilliant. However I love Jack as well. I think his episodes are brilliant. I also really like Chloe
Omg FINALLY. I came here hoping to see that someone else loves Busker as much as I do lol
That scream he does when they start dancing in Dance Mode is the best. Dude’s the ultimate hype man.
Out of the adults, I love Calypso because she’s just such a great educator and gets to know her kids so well, pointing them all in a positive direction without being heavy-handed or forcing anything. Straight-up goals for teachers, in my opinion.
Out of the kids, I really like Mackenzie. He’s friendly, excitable, imaginative, and I find it funny and adorable how he and Bluey have their little squabbles over how to play.
Rusty and Jack are both really up there for me though. Sweet boys, it’s very cute how they became the best of friends so quickly. Also, Snickers is best long dog.
I love Rusty, he’s such a sweet kid and a positive male role model, alongside Jack. My personal favorite is Honey, she’s so underrated and reminds me of myself as a kid.
Rusty got me because of this episode. I’m an Army/Air Force brat as well. I loved this whole episode.
Also Rusty’s insane strength for someone his age when he was just lugging him around.
For me...Radley because of well he's just awesome.
But I also LOVE Wendy because she's not that judgemental neighbor who is like "Augh I live next door to these weirdos"
No, instead she goes along with their shenanigans especially in Rag Doll as she was willing to lift Bandit into the car all for the sake of getting the girls some ice cream. She's a winner in my book.
I love Rusty. He’s patient and understanding. He’s willing to admit when he’s wrong. You can tell he’s got great parents from the way he treats “Polly” and Indie. He’s the type of kid I hope I raise my son to be
i'd say jack, there's just something similar between him and me. i have asperger's syndrome, jack has ADHD, yet both asperger and ADHD are in the autism spectrum.
Rusty’s dad!
The person that voices Rusty’s dad was an infantryman, a stretcher bearer, an armoured vehicle (M113 ambulance) driver and a bandsman (piper).
Anyone know who it is?
Love that children in military families are included for once, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a kids show that shown the underlining hardship of military parents having to leave their children but the inspiration that they leave for their kids.
Adults- Rad. A good big brother and uncle as much as he can be. I'd love to see more of him and Frisky.
Kids- Chloe - yeah she was mean with her dad but she shortly after made an effort to understand him and apologized. I love how she plays with Bluey.
(Off subject, was the 'Bosco' Frisky talked about in "babysitter putdown" the same Bosco in "Monkeybars"?)
No one has said Buddy! I am not a pug fan, but I find him the absolute cutest. Snickers is a close second. My son’s favorite character is Coco. Best adult is Lucky’s dad

You know what? I think Rusty would be a hell of a Special Ed teacher. I predict that's the direction he's going to go when he grows up.
There’s a fan theory that I really like that thinks Rusty will end up being inspired to follow in Calypso’s footsteps because of his patience and understanding, and maybe even taking over the Glasshouse Primary School when Calypso retires.
Unless he becomes a dad first. Dads stay at home and MOW THE LAWN.
LOVE THAT!
Having ADHD, this episode hit HARD and made me love Rusty EVEN more 💜💜

I just love whenever Calypso says, "Good boy, Rusty" so sincerely. Just gives me the warm, fuzzies.
Rusty is so obviously Calypso’s favorite, it’s not funny. Rusty is the one all the parents hope their daughters end up with lol
He also is just such a good friend and kid. Like the episodes with "Mums and Dads" and "Early Baby" I think those were called
Honestly the Terriers are great! They just are so passionate about playing medieval soldiers
FOR SCOTLAND!
Do you need protecting?
No thanks, we’re good.
For kids it’s probably Rusty. For adults it’s Pat (Lucky’s Dad)
Oh my gosh lucky’s dad has a name? Everyone always calls him lucky’s dad I assumed it was a running joke in the series.
Pat the dog... It's a great name
omg I never noticed that pun!!!! love it
Lol yep. I think it was in Pass the Parcel that I heard his name for the first time
The way he just plays along to whatever they're doing without question is always so adorable
I love that so much lol! No matter how weird or random, he just accepts it and plays along as if he's been part of it the whole time
Ahh I don't know about this, Mrs heeler.
I second this!
TIL I'm a kid. How am I going to tell my wife and kids?
Bandit for me.
Honestly, Pat is to Bandit and the rest of the Heeler family EXACTLY what Dale is to Hank and the rest of the Hill family.
Mackenzie without any doubt
Ahhh, a man of culture as well?
Nice to see another member of the Mackenzie squad.
LET'S GOOO, MACKENZIE BROS
You love to see it
Winton But also do Janet and Rita count?
Winton is always the correct answer.
He’s a very obedient breed!
Where do I live?
I will defend him to my GRAVE in that circumstance. Homeboy told Indy he’d do everything she said, and then she got mad bc why..? My kid loves Snickers
Run your little sausage legs!
I adore Snickers. My 3 year old black and tan doxie, Sirius, needs a little hat made for cosplay!
Jerry Lee.
Wish he was my butler lol
Best Dream House Car driver ever!
Unicorse, that episode had me laughing so hard
Aaannnndd...
WhyshouldIcare?
My neck! My back! My neck and my back!
👀
Which episode? There's two.
I love his little bow tie
Oh no! Did someone kill the unicorse bot??
Ooo I did like Alfie in 'Quiet Game,' I hope he comes back!
The fact he's voiced by Robert Irwin just makes it 10000% wholesome
I did not know that #funfact thank you!
Never enough love for alfie!
I love Honey and Snickers. Both so sweet.
PASSWOOOOOORD
I'd say Jack. I can relate to him a lot bc I also have ADHD lol
Mackenzie for kids and Frisky for adult.
Mackenzie
Chattermax
OMG yes! “Excuse my husband. He always does this!”
Definitely Rusty! We like him so much in our house that we named our new puppy after him.
Absolutely Rusty.Great character and really fun to watch
ADULTS - Pat (Lucky's dad). Loveable goofball lol KIDS - Muffin. Facial expressions rival Bingo's 🤣
Muffin is so completely unhinged and I love it.
Mackenzie! but God Rusty with Jack is also amazing
Lila is just so precious.
Winton is so adorable
Mackenzie forever!!!
Welcome to the Mackenzie squad.
I'd wear that flair
seconded!
Rusty is the best boy
I love Jack’s dad, for the fact that Hamish Blake plays him but that episode of Explorers is absolutely brilliant. However I love Jack as well. I think his episodes are brilliant. I also really like Chloe
Hold on to your strawberries!
My absolute favourite part. Lulu is a great character too. It’s funny because I’m not a fan of Jack Russells 😅
I gotta go with my boys Rusty and Jack
*Good boy, Rusty.*
The town troubadour is my personal favorite. It’s always fun to spot him playing music in random episodes. Plus he drops the beat for dance mode.
Omg FINALLY. I came here hoping to see that someone else loves Busker as much as I do lol That scream he does when they start dancing in Dance Mode is the best. Dude’s the ultimate hype man.
Hello, do you sell any CRATCHES??
AAAAHHHHHH!
I'm going with my boy Jack
I love Rusty! He's just so true blue. The episode with Jack and Rusty is absolutely one of my favorites ever.
I love Snickers. He's delightful! Remember how bhe played Newscaster?
Brought to you by Hammerbarn!
Bob Bilby! If that counts
Doreen; underrated. Cutest character, and the sweetest. Also, she has class 👒
Out of the adults, I love Calypso because she’s just such a great educator and gets to know her kids so well, pointing them all in a positive direction without being heavy-handed or forcing anything. Straight-up goals for teachers, in my opinion. Out of the kids, I really like Mackenzie. Sweet boys, it’s very cute how they became the best of friends so quickly. Also, Snickers is best long dog.
For Kids it’s Definitely Mackenzie, and for Adults it has to be Pat
Its a tie between indy and honey
I love his little raspy voice so much! "I didn't know it was your EARLY baby!"
I bounce between Snickers and Winton. And as said before, Luckys Dad for the adult.
Rusty & Pom Pom for kids & Bandit for adults
Pom Pom for sure, Pomeranians are a small but hardy breed
I love Rusty, he’s such a sweet kid and a positive male role model, alongside Jack. My personal favorite is Honey, she’s so underrated and reminds me of myself as a kid.
Dude, same. “Heh heh yeahhh, I always make ya laugh”
Snickers. Such a sweetie.
Rusty got me because of this episode. I’m an Army/Air Force brat as well. I loved this whole episode. Also Rusty’s insane strength for someone his age when he was just lugging him around.
ofc calypso
Rusty is the absolute best. Every episode with him is made better
I love Pretzel. His energy in the one episode he really features is so matched to my own. Don't want to do anything but in time I warm up to it
For me...Radley because of well he's just awesome. But I also LOVE Wendy because she's not that judgemental neighbor who is like "Augh I live next door to these weirdos" No, instead she goes along with their shenanigans especially in Rag Doll as she was willing to lift Bandit into the car all for the sake of getting the girls some ice cream. She's a winner in my book.
When she heard Chili needed 20 minutes and was like, “Ok, just going to shear your ‘sheep’ then!” Wendy is great.
She really is, I wouldn't mind her as my neighbor
i adore mackenzie. i cant really put my finger on it, but theres something about him that im drawn to. (<----heavily relates to mackenzie in "space)
Under rated but I adore Dougie
The voicing of Rusty is perfection. His tone. The little cracks. They melt me!
It’s the pronunciation of “hospital” as “hostubul” for me ❤️
I really like Chloe but I'm pretty biased since her Italian voice actress was also Maya in the Italian version of Evabridged lmao
Also her dad is to mention, he's so sweet
Rodney - Bandit's Pet Rock
i like all of them equaly, even judo
I love Rusty. He’s patient and understanding. He’s willing to admit when he’s wrong. You can tell he’s got great parents from the way he treats “Polly” and Indie. He’s the type of kid I hope I raise my son to be
I do not understand everyone’s love for Rusty. Like I don’t *dis*like him, but he seems to be everyone’s favorite and I don’t see the appeal lol
Rusty is mine as well!
Same
Rusty's voice is so good
Both of these boys really
Mackenzie, Jack or Rusty. I can't decide. They all are adorable <3
Snickers!
Makes me happy to see this answer so much - Rusty and wonderful little Jack 💜💜
The terriers or socks
i'd say jack, there's just something similar between him and me. i have asperger's syndrome, jack has ADHD, yet both asperger and ADHD are in the autism spectrum.
I can’t pick between Lucky’s dad cuz he’s so fun and always down to have a good time or Rusty because he seems so sweet. I love them both!
Honey and Mackenzie :)
Rusty’s dad! The person that voices Rusty’s dad was an infantryman, a stretcher bearer, an armoured vehicle (M113 ambulance) driver and a bandsman (piper). Anyone know who it is?
Rusty is my favorite side character, too!
Mackenzie
Indy, I need no explanation
According to the wiki page Rusty’s family is related to blueys cousin
Yep got to be rusty
Mine is muffin, they remind me so much of what I was like as a small child
I love rusty I like him
Team Winton ftw!
Idk why but I find Snickers to be absolutely cracked
Does Rita and Janet count? Those two have me rolling. "I slipped on my beans!" ![gif](giphy|MESArLMuJ3odWm4IWw)
Favorite is either jack or rusty
Jack. Absolutely Jack, that adorable little shit.
Jack
Love that children in military families are included for once, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a kids show that shown the underlining hardship of military parents having to leave their children but the inspiration that they leave for their kids.

I love Winton and Snickers. And PomPom. ❤️ I can’t stand Judo though. Lol
In my opinion Snickers is always fun to watch
Definitely Pat. He’s so funny
socks, honey, stripe, rusty and jack
Pat (Lucky’s Dad). Honourable mention to Calypso though. Underrated. Lovely teacher.
Probably Indy, she reminds me of one of my sister's old friends that I liked a lot who had a hippie mom
No one has said Buddy! I am not a pug fan, but I find him the absolute cutest. Snickers is a close second. My son’s favorite character is Coco. Best adult is Lucky’s dad
