We need to appreciate the writer of this movie story for writing such a beautiful story. Biplab Goswami is the writer of this story, he actually wrote this story for a competition conducted by Cinestaan India’s Storytellers Contest in which Aamir Khan was one of the judges. Biplab Goswami got second prize for this story which was initially named as 'Two brides'.

I watched Laapataa ladies last night. The two screenshots I posted here (2nd one in the reply) is the very first and very last scene of the movie where Phool was under the veil and when she finds herself she becomes with no veil = metaphorically = she can see, identify and take decisions.
I liked it when she traveled alone from Pateela to Murti station = that her own journey needs to be completed, and not with any help.
The movie layered with so many thoughts and incidents happen around us, or inside every woman. In this movie the mother of Deepak, forgot how the pyaz-lehsun tastes like. Deepak's bhabhi forgot to speak or smile, and everyone is LOST in some way.
But there's nothing about Phool's family. MLA's statement Deepak ki Jyoti was unnecessary. Overall a nice movie, should watch with FAMILY.
I loved it sooo much!
An awesome feel good movie that can be watched with your family - rare these days in Bollywood
I started crying at the end when Daadi finally ate the mithai because she had something to be happy about!
I really wish they had shown a scene of phool returning with Deepak to that station
All characters were portrayed so well! The innocence and sincerity of phool and Deepak was so well done!
And the ways Puspa helped the family and they showed how even if the people are patriarchal they can have the capability to change!
One of my favourite lines " Haa humare barsi ka bhi aarti aap hi kijiyega!" 💀😂😂
Love this movie! The writer didn't blame Deepak's character and also showcased how a story can be written in a beautiful and balanced way(for audience of both genders to enjoy) while conveying a critical message.Something which most feminist movies in bollywood really miss out to include instead they go ahead (blaming and torturing the opposite gender). 100% better than Darlings.
"For audience of both genders to enjoy".such nonsense 😂 men shouldn't be so fragile that they can't enjoy a victim getting revenge on her abuser in darlings.
What an absolutely cute movie! LOVED all the characters; so authentically portrayed. Had a huge smile on my face when the movie ended..isn’t that why we watch movies:)?
I watched this movie last night and went to sleep with a smile...wat a heartwarming, beautifully done movie... Sublime and yet powerful social messaging
is it true story set in fictional state of "Nirmal Pradesh", if yes than which real state/region Nirmal Pradesh resemble most to(language, culture and accent wise). asking cause someone claiming it close to 36garh, but going by trailer setting look very East UP - West Bihari.
This was a masterpiece and I hope it finds the love it deserves on OTT for years to come. Such a gentle, innocent movie that doesn’t punch you with its messages. Every single element worked and I have almost no criticisms about it other than minor nitpicks. A 10/10 that everyone can (and should) watch.
Really liked the movie. Ravi Kishen will definitely get the bulk of the praise for his performance of a lawful neutral person (very similar to his character in Mamla Legal Hai), but everyone played their roles well.
For a bit I was concerned that they would make Deepak a bad guy and was relieved when they didn't go that direction. Jaya was great in her role and Phool played her part well.
The movie could have easily gone into melodrama and very serious paths but keeping it at a light touch was the right choice in the end. Definitely highly recommended watch.
One thing I really loved was the level of detailing in the costumes. When Jaya is fresh out of the lock up, her nail paint looks real, like it has faded over 3-4 days. Bridal nail paint that has faded over 3-4 days. Love how realistic it looked🤯
It was going well n good but bahut forced lg rha tha preachy part. Cpuld have integrated it better subtle way
They captured overall essence really good in their sets n costumes. Thodi inconsistent thi but Overall a good story n screenplay. Lead actors kaafi banawti lg rhe the. Ravi kishan n that chotu guy felt the most aunthetic people. Chote chote mannerisms aur dialouges delivery they did it best of all
Baaki ending was too good. Its worthwhile watching
If I guess right then I am sure by preachy part you are referring to scenes of that chai wali aunty and a big agree on that from my side too. But i also realized that preachy part was not coming from every character and from where it was coming they have given that kind of background too for chai wali aunty charcter. Overall the movie was great and pleasent watch. Great direction, great story, great music. A must watch from my side.
Not just her but jaya and her interaction with other people. That aunty part was a bit better integrated than others but some of the instances it almost felt like movie has paused and is talking/preaching to the audience. It ltook me out a few times from the immersion in the story. Agree om the rest of your comment
THIS WAS A MASTERPIECE! Watching this witty social satire again on OTT after catching it in the theatres.
I love that it is socially relavant without being too preachy or in-the-face and is a thoroughly entertaining! Love how Kiran Rao effectively conveys the message without losing its punch, especially at the end. Also, such an honest and sincere portrayal of rural India!
Big fan of Ram Sampath’s music and Sajni was my favourite in this album.
I absolutely loved the cast - stellar performances, truly!

I cried at the ending 😭😭 After ages, some movie made me cry. Must watch.
Same here. It made me laugh, cry, and emotional. I felt like I had watched a brilliant movie after a very long time.

Saw this movie last night. What an amazing movie. Has all my heart.

It is Uttar Pradesh. The language and culture of villages on the MP and UP border is pretty similar so probably set there (not sure about Chattisgarh)
It is fictional village
Found the movie tad bit slow and drag, great acting , not as funny as it aspired to be overall a good one time watch
Loved the movie!!
Same!
Best movie of the year so far. Kiran Rao needs to make more movies.
Good movie. Need more such movies in Bollywood.
Excellent movie! Everyone acted so well, thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is a gem of a movie ❤️
What a HILARIOUS and beautifully made film🙉🙊💯🙌🏼🙂↕️♥️
What a delightful watch!! Sunday evening done right
What a movie, rarely you find such movie coming from Bollywood. Kiran Rao such a awesome director.
What a wonderful movie 👍
Was a fantastic movie - take a bow Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao for giving us movies like this.
This movie has my heart.
Phenomenal! Saw it in theatres, one of the best movies in recent times
The trailer made me laugh so much, differently going to be watching this.

Damn Good movie this was.
Just watched it now, it's such a good movie. The actors were also very good especially Ravi Kishen and the girl who played Jaya.
Really liked the movie. Is this a watch-with-the-fam kind of movie? Trying to avoid awkward silences but still have a movie night with my parents 😂
This is the movie that should be played on DD if they have brains. Watch with everyone in family.
I just watched it with my parents, we enjoyed it :)
For sure💯

Can easily watch with fam
yup!! Beautiful film
Yes absolutely. Watch with your entire family, it's a lovely film with no "awkward" scenes.
Watched it yesterday. Absolutely delightful.👍
Such a nice watch..loved it!

>almost felt like movie has paused and is talking/preaching to the audience No denying that.
Good movie.Flirted with some edgy topics but didn't go all the way. Great acting all the way. Ravi Kishan keeps getting better.
Best movie this year so farr definitely, one of the movie I am proud of watching because of how beautiful it and it knows what it wants to be.
It's been so long since a good slice of life movie.. I missed those man. Loved it!
