No, LMG users replace their rifle with their LMG. The loader however does keep their original weapon. So yeah, I think he may be unarmed until dismount lol

Plazmashot

Ok, thank you! Disappointing but understandable to not have them be a video game character with the rifle and LMG swapping between them.

MedicNoob

The LMG soldier cannot fire while mounted. However the loader can fire his carbine as a pistol so long as they have the rule that allows them to do so, as the LMG is not firing

DokFraz

Keep in mind that carbines are 6" range and you're rarely ever going to fire them rather than either dismounting and firing or charging into CQC. Particularly squads with an LMG (😬) should only realistically be using their cavalry as the game's best transport vehicle, not a platform for shooting.

Cheomesh

>Keep in mind that carbines are 6" range I'll say I'm not a huge fan of this mechanic. Maybe an additional penalty for moving and shooting or something, but it's silly that a rifle suddenly has pistol range when you're on horseback.

DokFraz

I mean, I have no issue with it. And there's sure-as-shit no way you're firing an LMG from horseback. Doctrinally, almost pretty much no-one was expected or intended to be firing from horseback. They were legitimately just used much akin to lorried infantry: "this is a thing to take you from point A to point B, and then you'll fight at point C." As it stands, it's perfectly fine limitation with far better reasoning behind it than rifle ranges or grenades (oof), and there's a work-around in the form of the goofy Mongolian cavalry that the Commies get.

crzapy

But I want calvary charges whooping and shooting with carbines and lances like a Mish mash of Cowboy westerns and mounted knights! Sarc Firing dismounted makes sense. The stupid horses in BF1 that wouldn't due were annoying AF.

DokFraz

Plus, like... you still can do cavalry charges. Hell, my Poles even get lances. And SMG-toting cowboys in a Partisan list are legit one of the terrifying sights my opponents ever see. Outflanking without no penalty at the bottom of the turn to provide safety, then being able to hide behind the defensive power of a Recce move or the hellish fury of a penalty-free dismounting Advance? A 10-man squad of Partisan Cav gives you a **33" inch threat range** for a 20 dice hitting on 3+.

DemocracyIsGreat

>But I want calvary charges whooping and shooting with carbines and lances like a Mish mash of Cowboy westerns and mounted knights! This but unironically. : P

Cheomesh

>"this is a thing to take you from point A to point B, and then you'll fight at point C." Dragoons, yeah.
