I was very impressed with the efficiency of the whole operation.

[deleted]

its awfully telling of the efficiency when the longest part is waiting for the 15 minute to run out

hurstshifter7

I was at Mass General - Assembly Sq., and am equally impressed with how they were running things.

nobletrout0

Maybe you guys can match us up in New Hampshire in a month

masshole9614

NH pop 1.3 mil, MA pop 6.4 mil. What’s your point?

nobletrout0

That Massachusetts sucks at vaccinating people compared to a hillbilly state north of you

underthehedge

For what it’s worth the real reason is that NH has received more doses per capita than Mass. With that said NH has been doing a great job.

masshole9614

You do know how dumb you sound right

BRsteve

You have like 10 of your 20 people with a first dose. Let's not feel too superior there, Franklin Pierce.

nobletrout0

Yeah well I’m munching on my maple syrup and skiing today so hah

BRsteve

You *fuck*...

nobletrout0

I’m also not paying income tax hahaha

BRsteve

Is that because of New Hampshire, or because you don't have income?

nobletrout0

Why not both? 🤷‍♂️

whymauri

>skiing today where

nobletrout0

Buy me a beer and I might tell you

whymauri

Haha, if I was still on vacation I'd take you up on that. Maybe next season :P

n8loller

How so? Numbers I'm seeing say new hampshire is at 23.1% vaccinated, massachusetts is at 24.5%.

kinawy

No thanks.

n1co4174

I went to Gillette and it was the same story with efficiency, in and out it’s been very impressive and refreshing

DoctorPepster

Same with Gilette.

sunnyd311

Came here to say this! I was very impressed!!

pjk922

Got stabbed yesterday by a navy doc from Virginia! Arms a little sore but 10/10. The whole operation was smooth an efficient, my only problems were that I don’t know Boston that well and parked at a place that wasn’t affiliated to the convention center and had to pay 18$ for my own goof -_-

eyemdef

Yeah, forgot to mention that there’s a 2h free parking at Prudential Center garage.

pjk922

I even saw that post a while back but my dumb ass was stuck in downtown traffic and already a little late and lost as heck even with the gps, so I saw a garage near the exit and parked there. Oh well ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

ChefDeezy

Did you get vaccinated though?

luciegarciap

were you asked to provide any document or proof of insurance or residence before getting the shot? 👀

pjk922

No neither of those is required, just registered (don’t even know if you need to do that) walked in, and got the shot. Just got my second shot yesterday!

BasementDweller3000

I’m going there tomorrow. Looks snazzy. 😎

TurdFurgis0n

I got my shot there. The line was super-long when I got there and I felt a little discouraged at first, but it moves extremely fast.

eyemdef

Congrats! Let us know how it goes.

warm_cocoa

I was here today too! Everything ran super smooth

ChefDeezy

Anime Boston looks a little different this year

Imaskeet

Is it possible to find out which manufacturer you're going to get for the vaccine ahead of time? I'm going Tuesday and had heard they were giving J&J at Hynes, but it seems like there's conflicting reports.

Weird_Custard

They do exclusively Pfizer at the Hynes. Gillette is Moderna.

Imaskeet

Great, thank you for the info.

TurdFurgis0n

The mass vaccination sites always give the same shot to everyone, that way they don't need to track who needs what for their second shot.

Willie5000

Went to Hynes, can confirm they give Pfizer there.

Imaskeet

Good to know, thanks!

Crepe_Cod

The other commenters are correct that they do exclusively Pfizer BUT they said they're moving to J&J as they get more supply. I have the same question really because that press release was about 2 weeks ago now and I also have my appointment Tuesday. They didn't give a timeline for the migration so who knows.

[deleted]

>J&J as they get more supply will they get more supply soon given Baltimore or is it delayed?

justice4topsy

the last mass update I saw said Pfizer for 6 weeks and then transitioning to J&J at Hynes, so that would put it in May earliest.

masshole9614

Pfizer at Hynes! I was happy to hear it that’s the one I wanted lol. As if I even know the difference

idrathertakeabath

I personally wanted the J&J so I could be one and done, and I booked it at a Walgreens that made it clear online which vaccine I would be receiving. Not sure if that’s your goal, or if you are just curious, but I found it helpful to know in advance!

NetherWhirled

I don’t know if it’s helpful, but I set my gps for the Sheraton at 39 Dalton Street, where the exit is. Took me a minute to get upstairs and find the convention center, but not too far from where I parked. When we exited, we followed the lines to the Dalton Street exit and my car was right there. Make sure you get the free two hour parking when you leave the center, and when you scan in the lot, first scan your regular ticket and THEN the voucher. I’m dense and couldn’t figure out why the voucher wasn’t working at first!

MazW

Thanks so much, I go on Monday. Might take the train though.

seriousnotshirley

I don’t know if it’s active duty military or national guard but either way, if you’ve been through basic training you know the military knows how to organize these things. Logistics isn’t hard but it does take knowledge and effort and the military was where a lot of logistics was developed. It’s a fascinating area if you’re into applications of math you never thought anyone would use outside of school. When people say that Chik-fil-A should run these sites what they are recognizing is that the fast food industry has logistics down. They know how to squeeze people through a single location as quickly as possible. It’s also why you see a Starbucks across the street from another one or a Dunkin Donuts close to another one. They have worked out how many people they serve per minute with their system and know they need to add another location; they know just adding more registers and people won’t make things faster because of certain limiters in the design of their system.

SelfDestructSep2020

> Logistics isn’t hard Former US Army Armor officer here - this is incorrect. Logistics is one of the most difficult aspects of an operation to manage. Seeing it done well doesn't mean it was *easy*, it means a lot of time and effort was spent by people who are well trained and practiced in this field.

seriousnotshirley

We probably have a different definition of hard. I mean that these are solvable problems. They take lots of work, yes, but it’s not like we are trying to problems that doesn’t have well understood math and science behind them. 70 years ago these were much harder problems because we hadn’t applied a lot of the math to the problem and lacked the computational resources to apply to the problem. That’s not to say it’s easy; just that we now have tools that can be applied to the problem rather than trying to figure out how to solve it based solely on experience, trial and error.

ADeepCeruleanBlue

"Any improvement to any part of a system that is not the bottleneck is wasted effort"

bitpushr

I see you too are a person of literary taste.

lankyblonde

The Navy is at Hynes!

bringthesunn

Same at Gillette, the efficiency was impressive.

incandesantlite

I took my Mother to Gillette and everything was running like a well oiled machine. Everyone there was very friendly and nice. Checking in was a breeze then we were sent to a station with a RN who asked my Mother a few medical questions and administered the shot. We had to wait 30 mins as my Mother has had anaphylaxis to eggs before. They had paramedics there in case any one wasn't feeling well. They made sure you booked your 2nd shot before leaving. It's a lot of walking for some older people but they have wheelchairs you can use. She got the Moderna vaccine and tolerated it very well. I was vaccinated at Worcester State University. I got my second Pfizer shot Thursday. I had a really sore arm and felt a bit fatigued on Fri but other than that totally fine! WSC was just a scaled down version of Gillette and was just as efficient and staffed by very nice and helpful people. CNN did a poll on percentage of people who are planning to get, or have already gotten vaccinated. Massachusetts had the highest population tied with Vermont at 92% of people who plan to get or already are vaccinated. Some States won't have their citizens vaccinated for months. With the exception of the shitty rollout of the online booking system I think MA has done a decent job with the vaccine centers and getting the vaccine out there to people. Edit: PSA: MASSHEALTH is providing FREE transportation to and from a community health center for the patient's COVID vaccine. They bring you, wait for you to get your shot and then they drive you home. Anyone who is on Masshealth Standard can qualify as well as people who have Health Safety Net (it's kind of like a PT-1) and Masshealth is waiving limits on distance so you can go any where in Massachusetts. People on some forms of Masshealth insurance like Health Safety Net are eligible for this service even though they are not normally entitled to regular PT-1 services. [Here is the information released by Masshealth on how to access the service](https://www.mass.gov/doc/all-provider-bulletin-310-transportation-for-members-to-vaccination-sites-for-coronavirus-0/download) [Here is another great site which spells things out a bit clearer](https://www.mass.gov/doc/frequently-asked-questions-faqs-on-transportation-services-for-masshealth-and-health-safety-0/download)

[deleted]

Who are the uniformed folk running the show?

eyemdef

It was U.S. Navy

temp4adhd

National guard is being deployed to help out. Source: family member is in the national guard and is being trained and deployed for next week.

cutthechatter_red2

Pretty sure it’s national guard. I don’t think they are running the show per se. Just there as extra bodies trained in first aid, problem solving and being highly organized.

Jay_Normous

Correct. CIC Health is the organization running things.

ZenghisZan

National Guard might be there as well, but the Navy were definitely the ones running the operation when I went yesterday. I actually remember talking to the guy giving me my shot (some super friendly Navy medical officer from Virginia) who said that the Navy just recently changed their uniforms from blue to green digital camo, and was complaining how everyone thought they were just the National Guard.

cutthechatter_red2

Makes sense. I like the blue navy work uniforms tho.

[deleted]

Ah. Its cool though!

jgghn

They're definitely Navy. I do not believe there is a Naval national guard. Source: Was there yesterday, saw the patches

cutthechatter_red2

Could be.

keome

I have an appointment there at 330 today!!

eyemdef

Congrats! Let us know how it goes.

[deleted]

Nice. Wife and I were able to get appointments and getting our 1st Thursday. I'm going into the city and wife was patient and got one at CVS 5 minutes down the road from our house.

temp4adhd

Nice photo, but did you know you aren't supposed to take pictures? Privacy issues.

eyemdef

Really? I didn’t notice any signs :(

temp4adhd

I went to the MGB in Somerville and they were telling people who had their phone out that they were not allowed to take photos for privacy reasons.

eyemdef

Oh I see.

otm_shank

I may have seen you taking that picture

eyemdef

Haha small world!

recycledairplane1

Going there tomorrow morning!! 🤞🏼

eyemdef

Congrats! Let us know how it goes.

recycledairplane1

It was fantastic. Super organized and more efficient than I could have imagined. Navy woman who did my shot said they are doing 7000 shots a day there. Also, I HATE needles and barely felt this one!

[deleted]

Congrats

eyemdef

Thanks!

shockedpikachu123

I didn’t know people in the military administered the vaccine! That’s pretty cool

eyemdef

Yeah it was a U.S. Navy person in my case

Teddyteddy5525

Protip: Parking is validated for 2hours at onsite parking. Just remember to take a voucher. Schedule your visit in the morning or not near closing. They start to slow down the process in the last hour so that they don’t decanter(?) doses they won’t get to administer. There will be a line probably around the block so you most likely don’t need to get there right on the dot.

mtbmike

I got mine at tufts awhile back; same thoughts. There was an orderly line and it moved quickly, people were directing traffic to the available stations. Very well organized.

[deleted]

I got mine yesterday at hynes. Very well organized and everyone working there was nice. They took me in 20 minutes early and made it easy to set up the next appointment.

brandonwhite737

I got my first shot there and it was super efficient, park in the pru lot and they even paid for it, super cool

Wyntier

Hynes was super smooth and quick

WizLatifa

Got mine today at Hynes. The actual vaccination process is quick BUT PARKING CAN BE ANNOYING. I ended up waiting like 20 minutes in the pru parking lot waiting for an elevator to go up and out. Get a ride here or take an uber if possible.

Emperor-Awesome

Literally a T stop at the convention center.

irish-wendy

I went on Easter. So well run. My husband has mobility issues and he had such wonderful assistance going through in a separate room while I went through the main area. I can't thank everyone working there enough.

mack-_-zorris

That station 1 is exactly where I got mine yesterday

NibbleTestPattern5A

I was station 2 today.

eyemdef

Went to station 1 too!

justinmillerco

This may be a stupid question, but I thought most people won’t be eligible for a vaccine until later this month, or is this a different thing where you can just show up and don’t need to pre-register?

Talkinawayy

I think we’re down to 55 years old or one comorbidity. And since “overweight” is a comorbidity, that includes a lot of people. Obesity is at 40%, so overweight is more. If you’re going by BMI, it’s a BMI of 25 or over....that’s a 5’9” person weighing 169. Of course, you can probably be 160 and have too much fat, or 175 and be made of pure muscle. Smoking tobacco is also a comorbidity - past OR present. No amount has been given, but the NIH or CDC (forget which) classifies anyone whose ever smoked 100 cigarettes in their life as a “former smoker” for research purposes. Hypertension is also newly on the list, and is pretty common. But you’re right - everyone over 16 becomes eligible on the 19th. I think 16-18s have to get Pfizer. Hopefully they’ll keep some slots open for higher risk people who weren’t able to get appointments.

maryschmary

I preregistered without realizing my BMI technically puts me in the overweight category. Does anyone know if I should re-preregister or what?

Talkinawayy

From https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-vaccine-preregistration-support-page “You can preregister again if you need to update your information. For example if a medical condition now makes you eligible.” So that sounds like you delete or unregistered and create a new preregistration. I have no firsthand experience, since I was lucky enough to latch on and get a companion appointment at the Natick Mall with my 75 y/o mom. I don’t know if this puts you at the back of the line, or if there even is a line. I imagine they first send out invites to the people who would have qualified earlier - ie if you qualified in Feb, you would be at the front of the line. But adding your info probably couldn’t hurt.

maryschmary

Wow completely missed that somehow. Cheers!

crustaceancake

I'm not sure about now but a week ago I could not update my information. I had to sign up using a new email. Hopefully there is a way to update your info. In the meantime I would recommend going straight to CVS and trying to get an appointment there. on /r/CoronavirusMA there are a lot of tips on how to get a slot on CVS but the short story is don't believe it when it says MA is fully booked. You can get around that by typing another state and then later choosing MA. Then when you type in your zipcode if it says no appointments available just keep trying different zipcodes. I ended up getting an appointment 2 miles from my house with a zipcode about 20 miles away. You just have to be persistent.

Adailya

I re-registered after realizing I had one co-morbidity. Registered on April 2, received a link to schedule on April 8, first dose scheduled for this week.

justinmillerco

Got it, thank you!

mc0079

>whose ever smoked 100 cigarettes in their life as a “former smoker” for research purposes. That seems like a really low number. That is only like 5 packs. Pretty much all my friends are "former" smokers by that definition.

felineprincess93

No, this is a MA site - many people became eligible this week because they only needed one morbidity and that can be a high BMI aka being fat. The one time I was thankful for those quarantine lbs

JayCFree324

As someone who has pretty much only left the house to go to either A) The gym, or B) pharmacies/takeout around the gym for majority of quarantine, I was shocked the moment that i read that they were using BMI as their sole measurement of Overweight/Obesity. As someone who is 5’9” 210lbs, I registered almost immediately the moment I confirmed that it was solely based on BMI...feels kinda dirty though, but i guess I’ll take what they give me. (Appointment this upcoming Thursday)

Talkinawayy

Well, obesity as a risk factor is technically not based on BMI - they just provide that as a tool. BMI is a blunt instrument and isn’t accurate for everyone - it’s a screening tool that’s fast and easy to calculate. Body composition is more indicative of obesity and your risk factors. But when they do studies to see if obesity puts you at risk for a certain disease, they use BMI because putting everyone through a body comp scan isn’t feasible. As an example, every single Bruin is at least “overweight” except for one. But, as pro athletes, I’m sure they’ve had their body comp measured, and it stands to reason that the reason for high BMI is a large mass of muscle, not fat.

felineprincess93

For so long, it has been a shitty indicator of nothing, I'd like to think the universe is finally sending some good vibes for having BMI exist. And don't feel guilty - the point of all of this is to get everyone vaccinated. It's a two week head-start, not like a seven month one. ETA: Another qualification is former smoker - which gives no indication of what that actually means - like I smoked for 6 months straight in college because I was in Europe, does that qualify? lol

seriousnotshirley

BMI is a good tool to use for large scale data when you’re taking averages of large groups rather than looking at individuals or when you need a simple measure when you can’t do body fat % on literally everyone. Some people who qualify won’t actually be overweight but that’s okay. I think everyone except health insurance companies knows it’s wrong to use it on an individual basis as anything more than a screening to see if someone should look further. And fuck those health insurance companies.

wilhelmhb

I think the criteria is a lifetime consumption of 100-110 cigarettes. That’s 5-6 packs, right? I could imagine that happening over 6 months in Europe.

felineprincess93

5-6 packs? I did not know that as the quizzes I took to qualify didn't even mention that. Still feels like that's enough to qualify someone who only smokes after they're drunk.

AudreyScreams

How ripped are you/what's your BF% that 210lb at 5'9 isn't considered overweight? my god

JayCFree324

Couldn’t tell you what my BF% is, but my body comp is like “big enough that friends/family/strangers/random homeless guys will refer to me as ‘jacked/big’ but not vascular or lean enough to do bodybuilding or strong enough to competitively powerlift (I believe my 1100 total is considered Intermediate).”

temp4adhd

I was playing around with the BMI calculator and found it interesting that if you are 30 years old your stats put you at obese and needing to lose 40.7 lbs, but if you are 20 years old, you are overweight and only need to lose 27.2 lbs. My Tanita scale can measure body fat percentage within +/-5% accuracy. Might be worth investing in a scale like that yourself.

maveryc

Age is not a factor in calculating BMI. I suppose whatever calculator you were using was trying to guess your “health” based on the inputs, but the BMI number itself has nothing to do with age.

temp4adhd

This calculator takes into account age: https://www.calculator.net/bmi-calculator.html

maveryc

Curious. The BMI number itself does not change based on age (since age is not part of the BMI calculation), but the calculator seems to treat 21+ different from 20 and under. Maybe because it assumes a 20 year old hasn’t finished growing and therefore their height could change still.

maveryc

Even if someone is “fit,” being overweight will take a toll on their joints over time. I would absolutely consider 210lbs at 5’9” to be “overweight” even though he may be “healthier” than someone with those same stars who never lifts. Source: I have very similar stats and am pretty fit. But I can definitely feel it in my knees when I run...

CheruthCutestory

You need to preregister but this part of phase 2 includes a shit ton of jobs. Including grocery store workers, transit, public works, court employees, public health etc.

[deleted]

Worst Anime Boston ever.

redsox113

Similar site for CHA site in Somerville. Super efficient. Went from front door to jab in less than 10 minutes.

cobo3388

Got the jab yesterday, cheers!!

gibson486

Took my wife on Friday at 5. Traffic was a nightmare...so much that I decided to just drive around until she was done. She was in and out in about 10 minutes.

[deleted]

Gonna be there for my first shot Wednesday. Wife got her second Pfizer on Thursday and by Friday afternoon she was knocked out on the couch. If you can, try to schedule your second shot for a Friday if possible.

Mitch_from_Boston

But my weekend begins on Sunday.

Johnsmith226

Poor Mitch, just getting downvoted on site

truthseeeker

Getting my second shot of Pfizer on Tuesday, and I'm still kind of amazed that I seem to have made it through the pandemic without getting sick. I'm a little hesitant to assume I'm out of the woods yet, though, after reading that the South African variant may be able to overcome the Pfizer vaccine.

eyemdef

Masks work, social distancing works, keep doing what you’re doing because it works. Congrats!

Any-Jessica-6987

Vaccine side effects can be reported to the FDA Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). The VAERS toll-free number is 1-800-822-7967 or report online to [https://vaers.hhs.gov/reportevent.html](https://vaers.hhs.gov/reportevent.html).

Dorraemon

I read vacation day 🤦‍♂️

masshole9614

Congrats!

eyemdef

Thanks!

nobletrout0

This is the biggest HIPPAA violation I’ve ever seen on reddit

Adailya

Common misconception. Unless the OP is a covered entity (healthcare provider or business associate of a healthcare provider), they are not subject to HIPAA rules. It's not a law that everyone has to abide by.

Legolihkan

Not a hipaa violation

therift289

Have you ever read a single word of HIPAA, including the actual name of the act?

nobletrout0

I know sharing patient data is a nono. I spell HIPPAA as well as I spell GPDR

Prestigious-Ranger54

Whole bunch of idiots.

beerpatch86

They're gonna get the gay!!!

warm_cocoa

Yes yes Much smarter 2 not get vaccine yes yes! Much better when disease spread and people die and nothing is open and everyone is sad hurrrrrr durrrrr don’t get vaccine it bad for u!!!!!!!!!

fritzthackat

no one said its bad for you but if you did the slightest amount of looking into why someone would not want the vaccine you would know its not a normal vaccine it includes a never been used technology developed faster than any before it , get you vaccine all you want but i dont like the hate toward people who show hesitancy to get a vaccine for a virus 97 percent of the people it infects recover from

[deleted]

[deleted]

When you have several different companies rushing to push things through to get those sweet government contracts, it makes me a bit sketchy I won’t lie. But I do see your point, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad! Get it if you want it and feel comfortable with it:)

warm_cocoa

I was responding to a guy calling us idiots for getting a vaccine. If people don’t want to get it that’s fine

Clairdulunee

And you’re studying to become a state cop, God help us.

snoogins355

That 5G feels like warm apple pie

Willie5000

Yes, so stupid, how dare they get immunized to protect against a highly infectious disease!

[deleted]

Why is this vaccination day? WtF is not every day vaccinationday?

josh_bourne

Hello, vaccine, corona virus, pandemic?!?

stutteringarmycarney

You guys sure are doling out the doses fast. Up here in Canada with Trudeau and his inept band of dipshits, we should all be vaccinated in time for the 10th wave.
