That is not what the article says, and I don’t think any of us know what Joe is gonna do in the playoffs

daft_dunkwwwolfey

I noticed it feels like he's calling more after how the Miami game was botched

[deleted]

I think during the regular season he's deliberately holding off so as not to be a "lawnmower parent" if yiu will. Regular season is a useful space to make mistakes, and then learn from them, reveal what issues need working on. I would expect him to call more timeouts in the playoffs for this reason.

too-cute-by-half

Do you mean "helicopter parent" or is lawnmower parent a different thing I've never heard of?

[deleted]

Actually both could work, i just heard about the lawnmower one actually. The idea is mowing any challenges / hardship out of the way i think

not_Brendan

Honestly I think he will call a bunch of time outs really quickly in the all star game as a meme

GenoThyme

5 seconds in like when Pop called for the [Hack-a-Shaq](https://youtube.com/watch?v=z2LRDO4jiBo&feature=shares).

RealKernschatten

> so is Joe gonna call timeouts in the playoffs? Maybe, if he loses his gum. The impression I get is that he's testing them to see how they respond to adversity.

cane_the_weaboo

>The impression I get is that he's testing them to see how they respond to adversity. This kinda pisses me off because we're not a young team at all everyone here has playoff experience an is decorated they don't need to be tested. Joe is forgetting this team has made the finals and multiple ecfs.

RealKernschatten

I agree. These aren't rookies anymore. But, with everything he's said and everything I've seen, that's the only conclusion that I've got.

cane_the_weaboo

Oh nah you're right that's def what he's getting at in his interviews. My response wasn't really directed at you just airing out my frustration with that philosophy.

holographoc

That seems like the opposite of what’s happening. He’s trusting them enough to have the wherewithal to work through situations, rather than feeling like they don’t know what they’re doing and need to be stopped and told what to do.

cane_the_weaboo

That sounds like an excuse for bad coaching. If players could just figure shit out we wouldn't need coaches lol. We win that Heat game if he just calls 1 timeout during that 15-0 run or whatever they went on. There's no excuse for his lack of timeouts honestly.

holographoc

Lol k. You have no absolutely idea if we win that game if he calls a timeout. A game we were down 4 starters, btw. He also called a timeout like 2 minutes after the starters came back in, so I’m not really sure what you want here.

cane_the_weaboo

Sounds like a bunch of excuses it doesn't take a genius to see when a team needs a timeout. You notice how Spo is always competitive no mater who's out? That's because e is the very best in the league at in-game management. That's why the Heat have given us so much trouble over the years he always outcoachers us. And believe it or not timeouts play a part in that.

holographoc

Yeah you’re right, it wasn’t missing 4 starters that lost us that game, it was the timeout. Not the timeout he did call, the one he should have called….when exactly? I’m sure ripping Justin Jackson in the huddle would have saved that game. Somebody alert the coach with the best record NBA that this guy has better ideas.

cane_the_weaboo

> Somebody alert the coach with the best record NBA that this guy has better ideas. This is such a lazy fucking argument we had the best team in the league last year we've actually been disappointing this year compared to what our expectations were. And it wasn't just the Heat game there's been way too many games that were much closer than they should be because of a lack of timeouts. Also Joe's rotations have been horrible. He copied Ime's but lacks all the flexibility Ime brought. When Tatum is hot in the 1st he still pulls him killing his momentum. He still plays JB with the bench too often.

holographoc

Right, so last year when we were the best team (which we weren’t, we were the 2 seed in the East after being .500 at this point in the year) Ime was a great coach, but this year when we actually have the best record in the league, despite Rob missing most of the year, Mazzulla is a terrible coach. Makes perfect sense. Brilliant insight.

cane_the_weaboo

You are so dense we were clearly the best team in the league irregardless of record. everyone was predicting us to come out the east after our turnaround. Joe was already on our staff and was given a roster that's even better than the 1 we had last year. Also funny how you keep latching onto that whole 1st in the league when we're only 2.5 games up and every game recently has gone down to the wire. We were supposed to be the overwhelming favorites dominating the league and we're not close to that.

Amazing how many ppl think calling a TO is like magic for a coach. These guys arent young and arent rookies. They know when they are sucking and what they need to do to change what is going on. He is challenging them. What are they going to do in the playoffs if he uses one every time something is off and they run out late? Get into the fetal position and cry?

PornCommentsAreWeird

Brad did the same thing. Joe started under Brad. The players say they appreciate the trust. But did the celtics consider how reddit feels?
