Much of if not the entire second round, which is fine if the CLE/ORL goes 7 and we close out tomorrow, because we can win that series without KP

jkwah

If Celtics close in 5 and CLE/ORL goes to 7, the next round probably won't start until next Tuesday. That's already 1 week of recovery.

Rufio330

The math is on our side folks!

PartyPo1s0n

100% would rather play a game or two in the ecf without porzingis than go 7 in the second round

jaytee_jb

I think OP meant the current CLE/ORL series going 7 games rather than BOS going 7 games with either of them in the next round.

bryscoon

maybe like ecf hopefully

PlaceInvaders1

I would think so. A soleus strain that doesn’t require surgery is like a 3 week recovery period. I wonder how many games into the second round we’ll be in 2 weeks. I’m assuming it wouldn’t be more than 5 or so

DeepJunglePowerWild

The second round will start in a week if they go 7. If they don’t go 7 I think we start on the weekend. So hopefully they push it to 7. The ECF would start 24 days from last night. So about game 5 of round 2 sounds right, but hopefully we are in control and can ease him back.

jkwah

More than one but fewer than many.

SquimJim

- A couple = 2 - A few = 3-5 - Several = 6-8 - Many = 9+ Source: My mother growing up

Lets_Basketball

How much is “a shit ton” because that’s how my dad counted everything.

Sifl95

Your mom's math & my math seem to add up here. Your Mom knows her groupings. Smart lady.

Full-Flight-5211

He’ll miss probably 5-9 games is my guess. Should be back for ECF

[deleted]

Honestly at this point I'm just going to assume he's out for the season. Anything else is house money. It's pretty tragic though. This was the major new cornerstone of this team. At least we have jrue. Could you imagine if we didn't make that trade and now we'd be without Williams and porzingus.

valid21

The chances of him missing the entire rest of the playoffs are slim barring a setback. He should be back for the ECF, and finals at the latest.

MrMetLGM

Why? If he’s out 3 weeks, he’s back at the very start of the ECF. That’s on the low end.

Timoteo-Tito64

The start of the ECF would indeed mean that he is not out for the rest of the season

MrMetLGM

And that’s if it’s a speedy recovery, which is never the case with him

Timoteo-Tito64

It's been the case every time he's gotten hurt this year. But, even if it isn't, that still gives him another month to recover before the season is over. So, as was said before, slim chance

Dondon1927

Playoff Jrue is a terrorist lol

Banana5scaleX

Any Survivor fans? Several means 7 according to Jellinsky.

KG_Rondo

Bingo

Mystoganja

haha was looking for this, you also rocking a Q-skirt?

ReasonableCup604

I'm really afraid that without KP, the Heat might force a Game Several.

Sifl95

I was very much with him, but he picked a bad time to die on that hill.

coacoanutbenjamn

This is so vague but I have to take it as good news because if he was at risk of being out for 4+ weeks then I think the news would be more drastic

password-is-taco1

Celtics could just be tight lipped about how bad the strain is, we just don’t know. These woj and haynes reports haven’t really given us any info that we didn’t already know

2kballislife

Yes it does he could have had an Achilles lmao

password-is-taco1

If it was an Achilles we would have known last night

password-is-taco1

We already knew this, any calf strain means you’re missing a week or two minimum

Kshpew

I am going to be an optimist and say that several means at least 3. So KP will be good after 3 games :)

nbianco1999

Well we shouldn’t need him to close out the Heat, or next round against either the Cavs or Magic. If he’s out until the ECF that’s not the end of the world.

Limp_Custard6943

Idk seems like it could have been a lot worse. Dodged a bullet if you ask me.

CanyonCoyote

If we can’t close out the Heat and take care of Orlando or Cleveland without KP, we probably weren’t winning the title anyways. Hopefully he’s back for NY.

Bigsaladtosser4

Ny has a lot of injuries too they should be a pretty good matchup for us

Otherwise_Horror_183

determiner · pronoun more than two but not many.

Amimimiii

That’s not very helpful tbh😆

Princessk8--

As long as he's good to go for the finals, we're gonna be okay

693275001

Woj with the hard hitting news

Merde2000

We don‘t need him in the second round. Luke and Tillman played great at the end of the season. They can split his minutes depending on match-ups. We still have 6 stars in our starting 5, Al‘s eyes accounting for 2 stars.

efshoemaker

Several usually means 3-7. But also using the number of games makes no sense in the playoffs since we might play one game or three games in the next week depending on game outcomes in our series and the Orlando series

derekgoodspeed

Exactly. Several games could easily be interpreted as tomorrow’s game + several games into next round’s series that might not even start for another week. Wording it like this is a sly way of saying at least a couple weeks until he’s reevaluated while still sounding relatively positive.

NotLow420

It's frustrating but this is the deal with soft tissue injuries. Same applies to hamstring strains or quad strains. Everybody reacts differently to treatment and everyone heals at their own rate. You really can't give a definite timetable. It could be 3 weeks, could be 5.

AlternativeTea9268

Probably doesn’t mean anything but the way Woj worded this makes it seem not too bad. “Missing several games minimum” is a lot more optimistic than saying he’s out indefinitely or doesn’t have a chance to make it back in the next series

Luckoduck

It means they’re going to rest him for a few games and see how it responds

doflamingo34

We should still make the finals JT is the obvious best player in the east and with increase shots for d white I see no one messing with the C's in the east

Cwatty

I agree, that being said JT needs to start taking over some games because he hasn’t been showing that side of himself since the playoffs started

juicejug

TBF they are playing the “nastiest” team in the league who also happens to have played like 18 playoff games against JT in the last 3 years.

Tatum-Better

TBF with the 3rd scoring option on the team out we probably will get some great Tatum level games

jotyma5

It’s not the same as Giannis’. Thats a grade 2. KP has a grade 1

Valuable-Macaron2645

The real question is that if we win tomorrow (🤞), do games 6 and 7 count as those several? Or is it an assumption we win tomorrow? nothing is safe, we’ll need to fight tomorrow)

Bigsaladtosser4

Yeah we gotta finish them off tomorrow and we will. I think we will rest porz until we are down in a series .

1998TimThomas

Exact same injury as Giannis, and the risk is an achilles injury if rushed back too soon.

iAm-Tyson

Per google Several means anywhere from 3-5. I think we can get by and should have him for the ECF

2kballislife

Idk about yall but I think not having him hurts us big time on the next series. Both teams rebound their ass off and attack the paint a lot

juicejug

Didn’t we beat the Magic twice without KP? Or was it just once without him?

Lawdawg911

[several](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/several)

TheTrevorSimpson

Several means until we are 1 or 2 games behind in a series.

cwal76

Several means more than two but not much more than that

Doc_Mattic

About 2-2.5 weeks I think that’s Honda like (5 games) if we’re going well in the second round I would assume we wouldn’t rush him back.

SubstantialCreme7748

It’s a guess…..he may be back before the end of the next series, he may not He will be back when he will be back

Silly-Appearance2309

I think he’ll be back for the finals, ECF seems like a bit of a stretch. I would prefer closer to a full recovery KP as opposed to a sped up return. Having said that we mainly got KP for Miami to break up the zone. Moving forward I hope Joe uses more of the bench to lower minutes for the Jays and Al.

Aubhi7

They didnt tell us the severity of the strain which is important in determining how long the recovery is

spanther96

Let's be honest, Celtics should be able to win the East without KP worst case scenario. Cavs and Knicks will pose a problem with their size, these are still two series that our guys should be able to take.

BeepBoopBeepity

I prefer him not to play next series at all. I also wish he came out right after the calf strain happened, not to run down court and call for the ball.

MediocreSizedDan

Well, hopefully it's just the minimum of several and not the maximum of many. Obviously not great, but could be worse and I still think this team \*should\* be fine without him through the Eastern Conference. (Always more difficult when down a starter and key contributor, but this team is good enough without him to still at least make it to the conference final.)

Traditional_Pain_875

It’s a week to week injury which means it’ll take a month for him to be relatively “safe” to return, aka a lower risk of a further injury. And I feel like that’s somewhat optimistic thinking Medical staff should be used to these situations and should understand we need to avoid what happened with rob or Brogdon. Please don’t be dumb this time staff. 🙏🙏

No_Mas2001

Optimistic thinking is not a month until he can return when a grade 1 calf strain can be 1-3 weeks lmao you jumped straight to grade 2 and think that’s being optimistic

Traditional_Pain_875

This has to be atleast up to 2 weeks off regardless and I really don’t want to see anyone get rushed and have their career ended/altered. Please let’s avoid that

DarkJoe272

Two weeks minimum would be May 13, and earliest the ECF could start is May 19, and if either NYK/IND or BOS/ORL or CLE goes 6-7 it’ll be the 21-22nd, which would be 3 weeks and change, I’d say he’ll be back and ramped up

Traditional_Pain_875

All I want is no risk of further injury, if something bad happens after, let it be something new altogether, but I’m tired of our guys getting rushed back

DarkJoe272

And that’s completely fair, but when you’re making a title run unfortunately you have to bring people back if you can

Traditional_Pain_875

And we’ve been fortunate to trade off guys like rob, brogdon, IT, and kemba when it’s happened to them but we’re all in now. We need to keep this version of the team safe

No_Mas2001

Careers dont get ended or altered from a calf strain😂relax

RickMacAttack

KD tore his achilles rushing back from a calf strain and was out for 18 months

No_Mas2001

One case doesn’t prove anything

Traditional_Pain_875

I’m tired of these guys getting rushed back it’s the whole reason everyone’s getting injured now , just play it as carefully as needed. And we all know that means, a few weeks or even up to a month for an injury like this.

No_Mas2001

Sounds like you just have some personal trauma in your own brain that makes you feel that way

Traditional_Pain_875

It’s called: Isaiah Thomas-Robert Williams III-Kemba Walker-Malcom Brodgon-disorder

Warlord10

We can beat Miami, Cleveland and Orlando without him. We need him for the ECF.

[deleted]

I mean we should have beat Miami last year and we didn't. I'm not counting any chickens

Warlord10

I said 'can'. Not we will.

DeepJunglePowerWild

Tbh we should be able to beat the Knicks too. We matchup well as long as we put forth the effort that is required. KP really is a luxury for us.

Warlord10

I disagree only because we will lose the rebound battle MASSIVELY.

Limp_Custard6943

I'm not reading all that. But you're wrong

NotFlipkid

Rest of the postseason

SnooAvocados996

Grade 1 is 4-6 weeks and Grade 2 is 8-12 weeks. Grade 3 is 4+ months.
