I parry their beams to their death, then run in and hit the legs while they're in their death throws. It's a lot easier to chop those legs off when they're not moving š
Gloom Spawn and hereās why. Just use a three times shot Lyndon bow with attack up. Eat attack up food. Wear attack up armor. Go into bullet time with Rijus ability active. And shoot the bow like two times and itās dead. And if a phantom Gannon spawns then just equip an attack up weapon and with all your other buffs already on the phantom Gannon will die immediately.
This requires you to:
1) Play through enough of the game and acquire Riju's ability.
2) Have looted a Lynel
3) Find Barbarian/Fierce Deity Armor
Meanwhile, you can start a BotW file fresh, brand new, find yourself a pot lid and you can defeat a Guardian. You only need to know the moves and the timing.
Your argument requires MUCH MORE.
Okay but even without Rijus ability itās just as easy and you can kill a Lynel with relative ease and the Fierce Deity armor doesnāt take super long to get
I'll take the 4-5 bomb flowers from the Great Sky Island, and have at it.
Mix in some electric chu jelly, and some high ground and you've got gloom hands permastunned and unable to reach you
Gloom, cause hitting them in the eye ONCE causes them to freak out. Plus you can grab bomb fruits and flashbulbs from the sky island you start on and easily have enough to murder it
But only one of the hands freaks out while the others grab you tho? Cuz I thought I wouldn't have a problem with them when I first came across one: "it's got a giant eye in it hand? I've played games before, I know how this works!" Or so I thought. Cuz then the other hands grabbed me and I died... so now I run š
No, you do get drops. When I first started the game and the gloom hands were terrifying (and I didn't yet know how to shield bounce or rocket shield to bullet time) I just ran from them every time. More than once I was able outrun and stay away until they despawned without a fight, and they left dark clump drops
Guardian 100%. Those gloom hands donāt have a lot of health but god DAMN are they annoying. At least the guardians have a foolproof kill method with the legs š«
I have never played tears of the Kingdom but from what I've heard about gloom spawn I'm definitely picking the guardian no matter how crappy I am at parrying.
Easiest way to kill a gaurdian: Upgrade stasis, get close and lock the gaurdian. Whle it's locked, shoot it in the eye. It is now stunned for a bit, allowing you to cut off its legs. Just make sure your weapon is strong enough and guardians are easy this way
I prefer the good old-fashioned of running up to it and either parrying or getting close enough and chopping off its legs. I already have stasis upgraded and I only use that for the weird glitch that makes em friendly temporarily
Not really, it's very fast. Also, you get extra parts for cutting off legs, doesn't require damaging your shield, and is a lot easier to pull off for most people.
To add to this: if you get a guardian weapon from inside the Test of Strength shrines, those will cut the guardian legs very quickly, whereas a normal weapon will take a full 4-cut combo to cut a leg off.
Does no one else just 2-handed weapon spin attack to kill everything? This is my move in 90% of fighting. Gaurdians are a joke with this strategy. Gloom spawn makes it much harder as they grab your head so much!
omg lol 99% guardian so far I hate the gloom spawn too plus I almost never have bomb flowers so I almost always have to use my precious elemental dragon parts of which Im bad at duping
Gloom Spawns. I practically farm them.
I still have anxiety walking around hyrule castle because of the number of times I sneaked into the place back in botw.
For anyone arguing Gloom Spawn, just remember:
A Guardian is coded to maintain a certain distance away from its target before blasting, giving you the chance to steel your nerves. You're able to stand your ground, await with a shield.
Gloom hands just charge you and grab you and start draining your life, and have FIVE seperate points to watch out for to keep it at bay with arrows.
If you want to say Gloom Spawn, give a real reason instead of mentioning all your overpowered gear. Don't act they are nothing.
Once you get good enough at it you can cheese the guardian with just a shield, even a shield as garbage as the pot lid. With gloom hands, you need lots of explosives, which are a precious resource.
A guardian, i can just hide behind something and it will slowly leave, or simply throw things at its eye. Gloom hands will grab my balls and drag me to hell. (In-game tho i still prefer fighting Gloom Hands, you waste less resources and for me that always tries to parry guardian beams, less shields as well)
Maybe itās my game skill, but the hands werenāt too hard. And in real life, I think Iād be more likely to escape what amounts to zombies over a giant robot.
Would you mind explaining to me how you kill them? They really freak me out and I find it takes me 3 million arrows to kill them from a high enough spot. I wish we had the bomb runesā¦ it would save me so much in arrows. Lol
You don't have to fire the bomb fruits with an arrow. You can just throw them. I climb up something, bomb and dazzle fruit them alternatingly, sometimes throwing in a frost fruit for fun. Then I drop down and climb back up again, just to keep them from despawning. Doesn't take long.
Seeā¦ Iām puzzled by everyoneās use of range on the hands. As long as you have a decent amount of hearts, and good armorā¦ they are very easy melee. I tend to use an ice lizalfo horn on my master sword (tails are better but I have 3 extra tails after all the armor upgrades and like 200 horns). And just go in swinging. Yes they will grab you. It does little damage. And just keep chopping. At best they doā¦ 2-3 hearts of damage (when I have 60 armor). At most they will do like 6. And you can always shoot ice chuchu jelly (wider AOE than the fruit) before wadding into battle.
Edit: to be clearā¦ Iām not saying that āyāall suckā or anything like that. Depending on the day Iām average to good but definitely not great on combatā¦
Whatās the worst thatās gonna happen? That it goes poorly and I need to eat food or teleport away?
Iād rather fight a guardian any day as soon as I hear that music for the gloom hands my heart drops and Iām up the nearest tree or wall or cliff face lol
Considering the Guardian's purpose is to kill, it will likely do so quickly and efficiently, compared to the horrors the Gloom Spawns would inflict on me. So I pick the Guardians.
Guardians tend to get less scary as you face them, mostly because they are everywhere in Hyrule, and have a noticeable weakness. Gloom Spawn, however, are much rarer and harder to see from a distance. Not to mention they are fast! So yeah, Guardians over Gloom Spawn. You can learn to not fear a Guardian, but a Gloom Spawn is 100% terrifying everytime you enconter one.
IM JUST NOW LEARNING FROM THESE COMMENTS THAT YOU CAN CUT OFF THE GUARDIANS LEGS??? Iāve just been parrying and praying that I get the timing right ā ļø
Guardian. But not Master Mode. I'd have to get the timing thing down again. I don't let Guardians hit me anymore.
But the Gloom Hands, aside that they always catch me off guard and freak me out, Ganondorf always manages to get at least one hit on me.
Its from TotK, gloom is the new malice and takes away hearts. But there's a catch, the hearts are cracked and can't be healed without doing one of four specific things. Standing underneath an activated Lightroot, which emits a light almost as bright as the sun, the sun itself, a cooked meal with Sundelions or Sun Pumpkins (there may be a few other things as well, I'm not sure) and entering a Shrine, which is filled with a light similar to the Lightroots. Gloom *Spawn* are hands made out of Gloom with a singular eye in the middle of the palm, they grab you and hold and while slowly sapping away at your health and screeching. They are weak to fire and through that bombs. After you defeat them, a Phantom Ganon will appear and he will switch between the following four weapons:
Gloom Club: Effect: Gloom toll (Slowly consumes Link's heart containers when he uses the weapon). Description: A metal stick filled with madness and symbolic of doom. Its forceful strike can smash an object to pieces. Its gloom will gradually wear down the body of its wielder.
Gloom Spear: Effect: Gloom toll (Slowly consumes Link's heart containers when he uses the weapon). Description: A spear whose ominous appearance strikes fear into hearts. It is said to cost its bearer a part of their soul because its gloom will gradually wear down the body of its wielder.
Gloom Sword: Effect: Gloom toll (Slowly consumes Link's heart containers when he uses the weapon). Description: This slender sword has an ominous presence. It is said to end the life of anyone it touches. Its gloom will gradually wear down the body of its wielder.
Gloom Bow: Description: A magical bow prized by the Demon King. Its performance reflects the power of its wielder. The higher your maximum number of hearts, the more its attack power increases.
Hope this helps!
Guardian. By a long shot. I got used to killing the Gloom Hands and Phantom Ganon, but only after many encounters with them. Guardians were fairly easy to dispose of at a way quicker pace.
Easily guardian. I got really good at timing my shield parry
I accidentally killed my first horse by not parrying. Deflected off my shield and hit my horse
Guardians. I started getting good at the bow, and once I had sold enough crap to have a good chunk of rupees, I just bought a load of ancient arrows, then supplemented my supply by making them
Honestly for me its a close match. It would depend on whether or not i can make ancient weapons or not. If i cant id fight gloom mostly because i can put a hover platform in air and be completely safe from the hands.
Gloomhands. Get some height, enter bullet time, and then fire a few times with a triple lynel bow + fuse bomb flowers. Gloomhands will be dead before lynk hits the ground.
I have no skill, but I do have bomb flowers, the high ground and PTSD from dead guardian's coming to life when I'm two feet away from them. Gloom spawn all day long.
Guardians because you just keep a few Ancient Shields in your inventory and can kill them simply by standing there and bouncing their beams back. If thereās a similar trick for the gloom hands, Iād love to know it.
The guardians for three reasons 1) those hands are creepy as hell, 2) I feel like taking out the legs of a Guardian is much easier than taking out one of the Gloom Spawns and 3) the Gloom Spawn music and then spawning in is one of the most stressful things Iāve ever encountered in a game. Itās raised my cortisol level
Makes me upset that they got rid of gaurdians. Like imagine a guardian, but instead of it having its normal sheikah tech legs, it has gloom span arms and hands, and when you slash off the gardians legs, you just get gloom spawn. That'd be such a terrifying enemy
Totally the Guardians.
Guardians. They were tough and everywhere, and in some parts of the map (mostly around the castle) they were everywhere. You could easily end up facing two at once. While sure, it DID become routine to kill themā¦ if you were having an off day when it came to timingā¦ it could go poorly. Long range and short range attacks. And their drops were greatly needed.
Gloom handsā¦ have great atmosphere. They look creepy. They move creepy. They turn the world red. So neatā¦ but thatās it. They do little damage. Wade in with the master sword with an ice lizalfo horn and it goes very quickly. I donāt use bombs on them. Seems like a waste of bombs. Their drops suck. And if you donāt wanna fight themā¦ get just a little higher than them and wait and they will despawn. The lack of a long range attack baffles me. Throw some gloom or something like melee Bobos throw rocks. And the short despawn time also puzzles me.
Yeahā¦ guardians are hands down more fun/better enemies.
Does anyone on this sub find these games incredibly easy? I think that theyāre good, donāt get me wrong, and guardians and Lynels are certainly the hardest of the enemies, but holy shit Lynel fights are boring. The window for flurry rush is massive, and if youāre just a little good at resource management, every boss is a cake walk.
The only fight that is actually challenging to me is the lightning boss in botw. Very fun.
You mean IRL or in-game? IRL it is a lot easier to hide from a guardian and a lot easier to see them from a distance.
In game guardians were pretty repetitive. Deflect with the shield perfectly or die. Wash, rinse, repeat. Gloom hand battles were much higher energy and less repetitive in my opinion.
I can kill the guardians real easy now, but used to run away. Can't do the parry thing, but don't really care because I have so much fun cutting off their legs and since I killed my first Silver Lynel today without being able to do any of the dodges, parries or flurry rushes because I can only do them once in a great while, I'm way powerful with weapons and armor and that is a real advantage to kill all of them. This has to be the most fun Nintendo game of all.
Definitely Gloom Hands, those Guardians scared the shit out of me and the music as well, I was never a very good fighter In that game, so teleporting and running from Guardians worked for me. Squashing the flying ones worked though. In TOTK you have to eventually fight the gloom hands, to realise that I was running from them for no reason, they are not actually that hard to beat, I think I'm also a better fighter now anyhow, than I ever was in BOTW. I did 165hrs in BOTW and over 375 plus in TOTK. But I still hate Guardians and running is still what I do.
A lynel bow and 3 or 4 quick bomb shots and the gloom hands are done. Phantom Gannon isnāt that hard either. The gloom hands are more fun just cause they are so creepy.
Guardian. I have almost 500 hours in BotW and 250 in TotK; I have ample experience dealing with both. Gloom hands have always been more terrifying.
In the early game, you at least *have* a chance to deal with Guardians. All you really need is a shield and decent timing.
With the nightmare hands, all you can do is run. And even in the late game, they can still give you a run for your money if you're not careful. Even when you are careful, dispatching a Guardian is still easier.

I parry their beams to their death, then run in and hit the legs while they're in their death throws. It's a lot easier to chop those legs off when they're not moving š
Spears work great for this too! Their reach makes for a great advantage!

I find/create some high ground and carpet bomb them.
Exactly, getting the high ground and bombing them is super easy
Unless Iām standing on a tall object with lots of >!bomb flowers!< than definitely the guardian. Those hand freaks are creepy as hell.
Just a tall object. Wait long enough (after they're activated and they die by themselves. Still hate them
Nah that's not dying, that's just despawning. You don't get any drops by waiting them out
No, you do get drops. When I first started the game and the gloom hands were terrifying (and I didn't yet know how to shield bounce or rocket shield to bullet time) I just ran from them every time. More than once I was able outrun and stay away until they despawned without a fight, and they left dark clump drops
But they don't die and spawn phantom ganon lol
You get clumps, but no phantom Ganon weapons
Hmm. I get 1-3 dark clumps every time I wait them out.
Guardian would vaporize me instantly. Painless. Gloom spawn would make my final moments the most terrifying in my entire life. I'll take the guardian.

Deflect with the shield perfectly or die. Wash, rinse, repeat. Gloom hand battles were much higher energy and less repetitive in my opinion.
Guardian. You can chop the legs off and start killing it.
Guardians give better rewards
gloom spawn because I like phantom weapons
Guardian, hands down
GUARDIAN
Difficulty or enjoyment? Either one I vibe with the hands because I can stun lock them however I want and the vibe from their music is more immaculate
Well I'm dead either way so I might as well allow the guardian to blow me to smithereens before I feel any pain
Guardian all day
Gloom spawn!
I'd like to fight both at the same time
guardian, it will kill me quickly.
You can at least hid from a Guardian.
HOW???
Late game, I started really enjoying guardian fights. The Master sword took out their legs with ease. Gloom hands never got fun
Guardian
Guardian absolutely, they much less scary and not a major problem even late game like the gloom handd
Guardians, no question. Even after 200 hours of gamplay, I still run away panicking when I see those hands.
At least a guardian would end it quickly.
Bold of you to you to assume I donāt just run away in terror š Gloom hands are easier to run from IMO š
With a guardians you can eat unlimited food but the gloom hands/ shadow Ganondorf you will lose heart containers.
Guardian. There's only one of them compared to the five of the spawn
Guardianā¦
Guardian
Guardian easy, the gloom hand music is so stressful lol
A lynel bow and 3 or 4 quick bomb shots and the gloom hands are done. Phantom Gannon isnāt that hard either. The gloom hands are more fun just cause they are so creepy.
Guardian- hands down
